OUTFIT Springtime was arguably Karlee's favorite time for a few reasons. The flowers, the knowledge that summer was on it's way... but like a lot of people, she was kind of selfish in the fact that her birthday was in spring - so that made it her favorite. She didn't really ever celebrate her birthday - ever. So it wasn't a huge deal. Hell - she never even really mentioned it to people when her birthday was coming up. She never felt the need to make a big deal out of it. But now she eighteen - so it was sort of special to her anyways. She was sure as hell that she wasn't going to make it to eighteen years old. So cheers to being alive!
However, this fine spring day, her best friend - Asher, had asked her to meet him at the beach. They where always doing things together and hanging out so it wasn't like it was out of the ordinary. Plus - they where both very outdoorsy people so the beach was a perfect place to hang out. She had been spending a lot of time with Emmett lately too, so splitting her time up for both of them was a must. It wasn't hard, but she made a conscience effort for it. Asher was her best friend - he was the one person she trusted to tell absolutely anything. She didn't cry - but Asher was the one person she would ever let see her more vulnerable side. At least, that's what she told herself. She put up walls around her that where damn near impossible to break down. But Emmett had been doing a pretty good job.
She wasn't sure what exactly was going on between her and Emmett. It was sort of a complicated thing. Karlee hadn't ever had a boyfriend or any type of meaningful relationship - so it was hard to judge it. It sort of felt that way, though. She wasn't going to dwell on it too much. She would have fun with it and figure it out when it happened. She didn't have to figure out anything with Asher though. She could almost read him like a book - which is how she knew when he was upset. He was a lot like her in the fact that he didn't want people to see the softer side of him. Most guys didn't - but everybody had their reasons for keeping people at a distance.
Karlee drove down to the beach that day, and loved the way her car was sounding now. And the fact that it started without her having to yell at it and smack it a few times was always a plus. It purred like a lion and she loved it. That too was all thanks to Asher. He was an amazing mechanic for only being eighteen, and she felt more than lucky to have a best friend who could work on cars. When she pulled up into the beach parking lot, she let the engine idol for a few moments. "Sounds sexy." She mused outloud before shutting off the engine. And the door handle didn't fall off when she opened the door anymore, so that was always a plus.
She stepped out of the car in her shorts and t-shirt, wearing her swimming suit underneath. It wasn't super warm, but naturally, she was wearing sunglasses also. It was nice outside, so it couldn't hurt. She grabbed a towel out of the back of her car and decided to make her way down to the beach before waiting for Asher. She lay the towel down on the sand and sat on it. It wasn't nice enough out to tan really. If she laid out there for ever she could maybe get a little darker, but she was not too worried about it. She pulled her cell phone out and started messing with it while she was waiting. She figured he would be here soon. She knew Asher and he wasn't really ever late for anything. She let her gaze wander out across the lake. She didn't mind being close to water, as long as she wasn't in it. That terrible fear of water was a bit overwhelming at times. Every time she even tried to swim she froze up. She took a quick breath before looking back down at her phone.

The morning was spent lounging about the house, watching TV with Molly. Adam was off with a few of his friends and for once the day started off a lot quieter than normal. They were watching some random sitcom, one that Asher was not extremely familiar with. Instead of questioning it he merely enjoyed the time with his mom. They did not get to spend a lot of time with one another lately so he was willing to take what he could get. School was definitely busy. His position as Wind leader and his studies, not to mention working at the shop and finally finishing up his car had taken up quite a bit of time. The Camaro was finally complete, and officially able to be driven which was exciting. "Aren't you going to see Karlee today?" His mother's voice broke his train of thought, and quickly Asher turned his gaze towards her. He smiled brightly. "Yep! I'll be meeting her in about half an hour. Going to the lake for the day." He had asked his best friend to meet him there for a bit of fun for the afternoon. It was her birthday, after all. He wanted to do something with her, even if it was just to chill out on the sand and do absolutely nothing. Strange considering how active the boy was, but if that's what it took to enjoy their day then he did not mind in the least.
"Speaking of which..." Asher glanced down at his phone and decided it would be best to go ahead and get ready. "I should head out soon. But tonight I'll help cook dinner. Adam should be home by then. And Karlee will be joining me of course." Like they had discussed. They strove to have a few family meals a week if possible and tonight seemed like a good time, considering he was bringing his friend over for a home cooked meal. Molly patted her son on the arm and gave him a soft, knowing smile before turning her attention back towards the TV. "Sure thing honey! You have fun with Karlee, and I'll see you in a few hours. Just be safe. The cake will be ready too." He gave her a kiss on the cheek before standing up and walking towards the stairs to go and grab his swim suit and towel from his room. "I'll be safe mom. Don't worry." Well, as safe as one like Asher could be considering the things he enjoyed doing for fun.
As soon as he was dressed in his swimwear, towel slung over his shoulder, Asher left the house and hopped into his car. It was so nice to have his own set of wheels that often times he would just go out and take a ride for a couple of hours. A good way to enjoy the weather and the car at the same time. Eventually he parked at the lake. It looked like a pretty good day to be outside and enjoy the sun, though there were a few gray clouds lingering on the horizon. He took off his flip flops and tossed them in the passengers' seat before getting out and skipping (the asphalt was hot!) his way into the sand, towel in hand. It took him a moment to find Karlee, but when he did he came up behind her and poked her in the sides. "Hey there!" Asher greeted lightly, plopping down on the sand beside her. "Happy birthday. You're finally eighteen. You survived." Every year was quite the big accomplishment, he thought. He watched a few runners go by before turning back to her with a smile. His dark brown curls had a tinge of blonde to them in the watery sun. "So, after we chill out at the beach for a while, I want to invite you over to my house for dinner and cake. Sound good?"

OUTFIT Karlee had attempted to be in a pretty obvious place. She didn't want Asher to have to search hours for her. She didn't think she was that hard to find anyways - not on the beach. In a crowd, perhaps, because she was shorter than ninety percent of the people in most crowds. That became a disadvantage most of the time. She hated that she couldn't ever see over peoples heads, but hey, it happened. Sometimes heels helped, sometimes they didn't. She really didn't have an advantage when she was only five foot two. And she was klutzy, so walking in six inch heels usually ended up in some kind of horrible accident.
She was distracted, so she jumped a little when Asher poked her sides and plopped down next to her. However, her surprise turned into a wide smile as she looked over him. "Hey." She greeted him, cheerfully. She was always happy when she was around Asher. It was almost like it was impossible to frown around him. There weren't very many people that she could be that way around, though, so she knew not to take it for granted. Best friends where something that where rare, esspecially for somebody like her. She didn't get along very well with most people, but she thought Asher balenced out her hot headedness pretty well.
Karlee laughed a little at his next comment. "Yeah - barely! But I guess I'm a legal adult now." She said, twirling her finger through the air - as if she was celebrating. "Next I just have to try to make it to twenty one." Those where really the big steps in life she thought. After twenty one you just started getting old and going downhill. But every year she was pretty surprised that she made it. But who wouldn't be. "Mmm, yeah." She started, leaning back on her hands. "I couldn't ask for a better best friend. But you know how I am with cake. I can eat for days." She said, patting her stomach and smiling at him. After a moment she leaned forward and placed her hands on her knees. "So I haven't got to see your car since you finished it. Did you plan on introducing me?"

Asher smiled brightly when he noticed that she seemed to be in a cheerful mood; that was always a good sign. At least things would probably go smoothly and they could enjoy their day without too much of a hassle. A birthday day where the birthday girl was down and out was certainly not one to be had. The sand was warm and inviting as he sat down, enjoying the weather that was approaching them rather fast. Winter wasn't horrible but it wasn't his favorite season either. He more or less went with the flow and tried to enjoy each season for what it was. Asher laughed. "Yep, I guess you are! Though I don't really see the big deal. Just a number to me." The boy was not one for parties or drinking or smoking or anything that required being legal so Asher never took the time to be concerned.
"I think you'll make it there," Asher said with an encouraging smile and a nod. "Just...don't go playing chicken in the middle of the road and you'll be fine." He was certainly not one to talk, considering the fact that he was a living, breathing example of a dare devil. Pushing his limits, testing the waters with things that not many people would dare to do. He is the one that says 'just a little further!' when the cliff face begins to jut outward and it looks damn near impossible to climb. There was no room to tell another person what level of daring they were allowed to be.
It was good to know that she was interested in time with the Rizzo family; he knew that Adam could be a royal pain in the ass but he supposed it was easy to look over once you adjusted to his personality. Being best friend with someone usually opened you up to their family life a bit more than mere acquaintances, so Adam was a bit more 'behaved' around Karlee. Good thing too. He was always a relentless flirt and probably bothered the hell out of the girl the first couple dozen times she came over. "Well good, because mom's making the cake from scratch. And of course her food is always amazing." Molly was an excellent cook, if her son did say so himself. He could be a bit biased but he didn't care. Then, as an afterthought, he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her in for a side hug. "Nope, can't find a better friend than me! But you're a pretty good best friend yourself." He was just tooting his own horn, playing arrogant when in fact the words 'best' and 'friend' rarely ever graced someone's lips when talking to him. He had friends, but a best friend never really crossed his path. Too flighty for relationships like that. Fortunately, Karlee stuck around.
With an enthusiastic hum in his throat, Asher stood up from the sand and brushed off his shorts, removing his shirt and setting it next to the towels and shaking out his hair. "Of course! But I figure you can meet her after we enjoy the beach. Because I'll be driving you to my house. Then I can drive you back here afterwards." It was Karlee's birthday, after all. He did not mind driving her to and from his house tonight. He glanced out over the water and put his hands on his hips, enjoying the warm sun on his skin. "So we going out there or what?" He had yet to figure out that she was quite fearful of water.

OUTFIT Karlee pouted playfully at his comment. "But playing chicken in the middle of the road is my favorite hobby!" She said, before laughing. It obviously wasn't. She didn't make a habit of it, anyways. But she was a dare devil. To her, living life on the safe side was living live on the boring side. Well, for most things anyways. Most people where boring though, with the annoying habits and ways of doing things. She figured that was the reason her and Asher bonded so quickly, was probably because neither of them where afraid to try new - and probably stupid - things.
Karlee actually liked Ashers family. She had met them quite a few times - including his little brother. The resemblance between them was almost astounding - but their personalities where like complete opposites. But Adam was in the same element as her, so she had run into a him a few times in the common room since school year started as well. He was quite the little ass hole most of the time, and she remembered the first few times she met him - he kept hitting on her, but he had calmed down a bit since then. "Mmm, yeah. Your mom is a fantabulous cook." She said, smiling over at Asher. At the moment, she was actually rather proud of her new invented word. But who didn't like inventing words? The dictionary was so boring as it was. She smiled when Asher pulled her in for a hug and leaned into him a little bit. "You're too sweet." She said, her eyes still resting on the water.
She really was blessed to have a best friend like him, though. She wasn't used to people sticking around long enough to get past her outer shell. Most people just thought she was an overly sarcastic bitch - which she was, but not around people like Asher. Of course he still got to see some of her sarcasm, but that was just her. She watched as he stood up. "You would live shirtless if you could, huh?" She said, laughing a little bit. She did think he was good looking - hell, anybody would. However, the thing about him being her best friend meant it would just be awkward if she commented on how hot he was. "What a gentlemen!" She mused, trying to decide whether or not she should stand up. Then he made his next comment, and she shook her head and hugged her knee's into her chest a little bit more. "Nah, I think I'm good. I can watch you." She said, smirking at him a little. She didn't want to admit that she was scared to death of water - that was just embarssing. And she hadn't ever learned to swim.

Asher laughed and poked her side. "Of course it is. How stupid of me to think otherwise." That would be one strange hobby to have, playing chicken in the middle of the road. Daring as he was, there was no way he would willingly make a habit of something like that. Climbing a rock face was one thing--it couldn't really have a mind of its own--but confronting the headlights of a vehicle that was controlled by another human being did not seem as appealing. There were so many things that could go wrong in that scenario. Odd that he preferred to do all of the crazy stunts but when his life was placed into someone's hands (outside of, say, tandem skydiving, because they were a professional) there was no way in hell he would make that a consistent habit.
It was nice to know that Karlee liked Molly's cooking. To him, he did not see many other women making the amazing food that she did, but he was probably a bit biased. He was her son, after all. Then again most people were a bit biased about their parents with one thing or another right? Good or bad, parents created bias frequently. "I'm sure she'll appreciate the complement! That's one thing she really loves to do." Do what you love, love what you do and all of that. Which Asher did quite frequently with his cars and his outdoor activities. Sure it did not always bode well for his academics but he never claimed to have the perfect balancing act. "Pfft. Not sweet. Just being honest." He was not really one to blow hot air just to please others. If that were the case Asher would have a lot more friends. He didn't, but he did not mind that in the least. Being social did not entail making friends with every living and breathing thing on the face of the earth.
"Hell yeah I would!" Asher replied enthusiastically, not even thinking about the fact that he was wandering around shirtless in front of his best friend. Eh, it was just skin and all that good stuff. Not like he wasn't like every other male out there. He did pride himself on his looks though, and did not mind when others appreciated it. "I mean, if I could go around naked I probably would. It's so much more comfortable than wearing a whole bunch of clothing." This statement did not phase him in the least and he said it with such calmness and conviction that it seemed like he might go nudist at any moment. Asher blew on his knuckles with hot air and rubbed it against his shoulder. "I know, I try to be." He teased, smiling down at her with a bright, toothy grin. Then, the smile dipped into a frown and he tilted his head, clearly confused. "Awww, why not?" The boy asked, curious as to why she would come to the beach but refuse to swim. He knelt down and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Do I need to pick you up and throw you in? Because I will."

OUTFIT Karlee was pretty much jealous of people that knew how to cook. She was pretty much the epitome of somebody who won't ever be a professional chef. Not to mention that everything she cooks catches on fire. Or at least turns black. She was pretty sure at one time or another she had caught a pot of boiling water on fire. If that was even possible, she was sure she had done it before. She was pretty much the worst cook ever. "Maybe she can teach me a thing or two. I mean.. You've seen my cooking..." Karlee said, smirking a little. She was sure he had one time or another - they spent enough time together. She usually attempted cooking for everybody at least once. It just happened. It was a nice gesture to try to cook for people anyways, wasn't it? "Well then you're honestly sweet." She said, smiling over at him a little brighter. "Like splenda." She was pretty sure that's what those commercials said. She didn't watch a lot of TV. But she was also pretty sure Splenda was that fake sugar stuff.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes at his comment. "Typical male." She said with a huff, even though she was obviously kidding. She really didn't mind him wandering around shirtless. It wasn't like she hadn't seen him shirtless before. She would probably be in her bathing suit here in just a few, so it really wasn't a big deal. Karlee also prided herself on her looks for the most part, so it wasn't something unfamiliar. A lot of people did that. "So is this a nudist beach now?" She said, smirking at him a little before glancing around. "We might want to give everybody else the memo before they wonder why we are running around naked." She said, glancing at him. She was joking, of course. She wasn't planning on running around Naked at the beach. She rolled her eyes as he blew on his knuckles and rubbed it against his shoulder. "You're just full of hot air today, huh?" She laughed and shook her head. That's why she loved her friend, though. It was good to see him in this mood as opposed to last time they hung out. It was good to see him being himself again. At his question she quickly shook her head. "Noooo." She replied, simply. "No throwing me in either. I will bite you." She said, looking at him. She tried to keep her face serious but ended up laughing. She hugged her knee's in closer to her and looked up at him. "But no, really."

Asher never really expected much out of people in regards to their talents. Molly was a good cook, and Karlee was not. He was in no place to make fun of her seriously or judge her for it; even he was not really the best cook. Macaroni and cheese and a few of the other quick and easy meals were simple enough but beyond that he was helpless. So instead of laughing Asher merely smiled. "Ah, just ask her for pointers I guess. I mean, if we get home before she's done cooking you can always talk to her about it." Molly was social and friendly and would not mind the questions at all. In fact it would probably make her feel good to have someone inquire about her talents as a cook. Asher snorted and laughed, shaking his head. The curls that rested on top of his head wiggled back and forth a little as he did so. "Like splenda, huh?" He asked, toying with his hair now. Maybe cutting it or shaving it down again would be good. "Well, at least I'm sweet and not as bad for your health as regular sugar." Anything out of moderation was unhealthy but he could certainly settle for a comparison with splenda.
With a cocky, broad smile, Asher flexed his muscles a little bit and wiggled his eyebrows. "Never claimed to be anything else." He was a typical male through and through. The cars, the working out, the sports, the slight bits of arrogance when it came to his body, and of course wandering around shirtless even when it wasn't necessary. A bit of a stereotype but Asher fit it quite well. He glanced around at her comment, taking in all of the people walking to and from the water. "Yep, you didn't know?" He pretended to be genuinely confused, then allowed himself to smile. "I guess we should. It would be pretty awkward to just...strip down and wander around in all our glory." Glory, because he knew he looked good and he was not beyond thinking Karlee was a beautiful girl. Asher nodded with another smile--he really was a rather cheerful, if not enthusiastic person--and puffed up his chest. "That's me! Always so full of myself, you know." He really could be at times, but most of the time it was not overly puffed up. His confidence came from his knowledge and capabilities.
"You know that biting won't affect me, right?" He was not exactly immune but he was a bit tougher than that. With a mischievous smile, he picked her up bridal style and wandered over to the water, looking out over its gentle ripples. "Are you sure? I mean...I can just wade out there and drop you. It'll be easy!" Oh, if only he were aware that she was fearful of the water. Currently she still had her clothes on so he wouldn't do it just yet. That saved her for the moment. With an amused chuckle he set her down in the sand and glanced down at her expectantly. "...but I guess I can wait. Why are you wearing a bathingsuit if you're gonna avoid swimming? I'll be lonely." Asher pouted, batting his eyelashes a little bit before laughing and watching a few pretty girls wander by in front of them. The glance was brief; he always enjoyed looking but was never the type to act on anything.

OUTFIT Karlee wasn't opposed to learning new things and new skills, but she also believed that everything happened for a reason. There was a reason she wasn't good at cooking and she didn't think she wanted to press that issue. Or probably more because she just liked eating the food more than actually making it. She was rather small and really thin, but she could eat more than some people twice her size. She considered that to be a skill, too. Maybe I'll put that on my resume. She mused to herself. She could see that happening. "Nah, really. I think I am okay with just eating it." She said, smirking a little. Asher knew her well enough to know that at heart, she really was fat. "Not bad for your health? So climbing waterfalls isn't bad for your health? I think you've inhaled a little too much carbon monoxide." She said, rolling her eyes. She was being a bit of a hipocrite there - okay, a lot of a hipocrite, but she was obviously kidding.
Karlee rolled her eyes and smirked at his comment. She didn't exactly fit in the category of a typical female. In some ways she did of course, but most of her hobbies where more masculine. However, she did grow up with just her older brother, so she learned from him. She liked working out, and of course cars. That was sort of what her and Asher had bonded over. She placed her hand on her sleeve to pull it up a little and also flexed her arm, trying hard to make it look like she had something but - she really didn't have much of anything. "I still think I can take you in arm wrestling." She said, smiling at him a little bit before dropping her arm. She laughed and rolled her eyes at his next comment, before glancing around the beach. "Well I don't think anybody would complain." She said, poking him in the side. "You practically have an eight pack. Give those ladies something to stare at right?" She said, winking at him. She was comfortable joking around with her best friend, so it wasn't really weird.
She raised an eyebrow at him and smirked a little. "It would effect you, superman. I promise, I bite hard." She said, playfully making a grr face at him, before he picked her up. She squeeled a little before putting her arms around his neck. "Asher, Asher Johnathon Rizzo, put me down." She said, looking up at him and trying to look serious, but then he put her down in the sand - instead of the water. She thought her heart was going to pound out of her chest. She took a quick breath after he set her down. "Tanning, silly. I will watch you swim, and.. I will tan. Sound good?" She said, smirking at him before quickly shuffling back over to where she had her towl down, and took off her t-shirt and shorts and tossed them into the sand, before laying down on her stomach on the towel, and looking at him. "See? Perfect. Now you have fun." She sounded probably like she was being a party pooper, but she really didn't want to end up in the water. Though Asher really could quite easily probably just throw her in.

Asher flashed her a smile. "If you're sure," He eyed her for a moment before laughing a little. "Sometimes food tastes better when you're the one who makes it." Of course it depended on if you were a decent cook or not. The last casserole he made was not exactly the most appetizing thing in the world and he preferred Molly to take over the talent of cooking. I'm gonna be screwed in college. Trying to cook all of his own meals if he decided to drift away from home would be quite the adventure. "I'd rather die doing something active and fun than of being fat," Asher pointed out with a light shrug. Sure the kid loved eating junk food on occasion and did not mind a good dose of sugary goodness but it was not something he indulged in on a daily basis. He was really looking forward to that cake though. Molly's baked goods were too good to pass up in his opinion. As an afterthought, he added with a poke to her arm, "And yeah, probably too much carbon monoxide. You know me and my inhaling issues." Because Asher was certainly the type to do any sort of illegal substance abuse.
It was hard not to laugh when Karlee attempted to flex her arm; she was not built in the way that he was but she was not some scrawny chick that could be broken in half with a hug. Probably a good thing because the boy loved to hand out hugs and he would feel awful if he were to like, hurt her or something. "Oho, you think you can, huh? I'd like to see you try." He willingly flexed his arms a little bit and glanced at her with a smirk. Then, at her next comment he tightened his abs and looked at them, poking at them with an index finger. "Nah just a six pack. Eight packs are really rare anyway. But I'll keep my swim trunks on for the time being. Maybe later." As much as he enjoyed showing off and feeling good that Karlee thought that the girls would at least give him a double take, he was not going to dwell on that. It was her birthday, after all.
"You do remember what my hobbies are, right?" Asher asked with a laugh. The boy did hiking and rock climbing and skydiving and did all sorts of adrenaline induced activities whenever time would allow. A bite certainly was just a little sting compared to some of his injuries in the past. He could only laugh again when she made her protests. "No can do Karls. I'm not letting you down just yet!" He still had to threaten to throw her in the water! That was always fun to do. Asher was not unnecessarily cruel so instilling fear into his best friend was not intentional. Once he had set her back on the sand he shook his head and rolled his eyes. "Of course. Tanning. I should've known." Well, Karlee's secret was safe for the time being seeing as there really was no arguing with something that he deemed to be rather typical of most beach goers. He watched as she went back over to the beach towel and took off her clothes. Being a guy, he gave her a faint whistle--teasing, of course--before stepping into the water. "Fine. Be boring." Asher walked further in and took a dive, enjoying the feel of the water on his skin before breaking the surface and shaking out his hair. Feeling mischievous, the boy wandered back out of the water and stood over Karlee, allowing all of the water to drip on her. "Come onnnnn. Go swimming! I really will throw you in, you know."

OUTFIT Karlee couldn't help but laugh at his comment, and she shook her head. "Not when I make it. Trust me. Even my dog won't eat my cooking." Which was a lie, mostly because her doberman would eat pretty much anything. Including socks. Which came to be a hassle sometimes when you tried to find matching socks, just to find out your dog ate them. Well, that was back when she actually had a dog at home. She was looking for a job somewhere to get an apartment before vacation came around. That would work much better. "Oh I completely agree. But still." She just shrugged a little bit and smiled at him. "Oh yeah, man. You're a real stoner!" She said, not able to help rolling her eyes. Asher was about as far from that as you could get, so it was okay to joke about it.
"When we get back to your house then broski, you're on like peanut butter on jelly." She said, smirking at him a little. Oh, her childlike humor. It didn't happen very often, but when it did - it was quite child like. Though she didn't get embarassed or anything easily, around anybody, but esspecially around Asher. They knew one another well enough to understand each others humor. Karlee was the type of comedian to make fun of her friends - but in a joking way. So, if they got offended - they probably weren't her friends. At least not her close friends. Even if she didn't have many of them anyways. "Oh no, I think you could fit an eighth one in there. There's room for two more!" She said, laughing a little and playfully punching him in the stomach. "Ouch." She mumbled, frowning and sticking out her bottom lip and glancing up at him. "You've got like.. steel plates in there."
Karlee was not really a fearful person by any means. She would do just about anything and didn't care about the consequences. But since she was very young she had always been afraid of water. Going in knee deep or something wouldn't be bad, but anything that threatened to cover her head was much too deep. Or really, any water that moved. She didn't mind extremely shallow creeks or anything, or bath water, but the ocean was a scary place. A scary thought, at that. "Well duh! I don't want to look like a ghost. Might start scaring people away." She said, laughing a little. She was really white - almost painfully white. She usually always had a tan - but she didn't really right now, just coming back into summer and all. As he whistled at her she just shot him a smirk and rolled her eyes. She knew he was kidding - well, at least pretty sure. She knew she was good looking so she didn't really care, but still. He was her best friend. "I'm not boring, my friend. We just have different ideas of fun sometimes!" Once she was laying on the towel she watched him dive and rolled her eyes a bit. "Showoff." She called out, although pretty sure he didn't hear her. She watched him as he walked over her and the water started dripping on her, and buried her head in her arms. "Eww. You're getting me all wet. Cooties, man. Cooties." She couldn't help but laugh a little before rolling over onto her back and folding her arms behind her head, looking up at him. "Me and swimming don't mix."

Karlee was making a big mistake, challenging someone like Asher. He was naturally competitive and loved to win, even if it was a friendly arm wrestling match. Fortunately the boy was confident enough in himself to know he stood a very strong chance of winning. "You are definitely on! I might let you win, just to make you feel better though." He eyed her and smiled, trying to appear as innocent as possible. Oddly enough his expressions usually did make him look pretty harmless. Asher was a pretty harmless person overall despite what he probably could do if he needed to defend himself or fight. "I might be able to. I could cheat the system and try to grow them." Karlee's punch to his stomach did not really hurt that much at all and he could only laugh. "Oh right, I forgot to tell you about those. They help define my muscles a little more and stuff you know. And prevent people from knocking the wind out of me with a punch." He could be bested in a fight certainly, but he was by no means weak.
"Oh good god," He rolled his head back a little and emitted a rather over-dramatic sigh. "You are just fine. So what if you aren't extremely tan?" She could be completely unable to tan, like albino people. They could not even go out in the sun without wearing heavy amounts of sunblock and umbrellas. He also did not like that Karlee felt she needed to have a tan. She was a pretty girl, there was no need for it. But he supposed that if the girl wanted to lay out in the sun and bake, there was no way to argue. "I mean, if you consider laying around fun...then that's your deal." He said with a smile, pointing at her briefly before dropping it at his side. After he jumped in it was impossible to hear anything his best friend had to say, so did not get the chance to boast and brag about actually being somewhat of a showoff. Because he could be, and he was not ashamed of it.
As Asher stood over her, not even thinking to wring out his shorts and save her from getting soaking wet, he put his hands on his hips and bent down a little to look at her. His hair was basically plastered to his head. "Hey, I don't have cooties! Not anymore, at least. I got my cootie shot when I was a kid, so. You're safe." And with that, he shook his head again and did not hesitate to spray water all over her. If she wasn't going to swim, might as well do something. He quirked an eyebrow, but looked a bit deflated that she was not willing to join him. "Come on, please? Just...sit in the water. Or something. This is your last chance, because if you refuse I will have to take drastic measures." The only reason he had not done so yet was because he really wanted to see if she would do it herself. If not...then Asher was not beyond making an attempt at throwing her in.

OUTFIT Karlee was also naturally competitive, and had a bad habit about making bets on everything. It was like a gambling problem in the making, but she rarely ever had money to bet. So it usually ended up betting stupid things that she didn't even care about. "Pfft? Let me win. Oh please." She said, with a dramatic eye roll. Although she knew the only way she could beat Asher in arm wrestling was probably if she used both arms and laid on top of his arm. There was no way she was even remotely stronger than he was. She wasn't weak - but compared to him, she was. "Fuck the system, man. Rules are for losers." She said, glancing off thoughtfully. "Yeah, I've got them too." She said, playfully poking at her own stomach. She actually had a firm stomach, she just didn't have abs. Which it was a well known fact that it was harder for females to get abs, anyways. They weren't as close to the surface.
She couldn't help but blink and laugh a little as he seemed so exasperated. "Well at least I tan naturally! I don't go to those tanning booths and come out looking orange." She said, pointing back at him. She had a point, though. Tanning by the sun was much better. Even if it usually ended in getting burnt. She had always loved tanning - it was almost an obsession. Like something she just couldn't not do. She never saw it as a problem though, but Asher seemed to be almost upset by it. "Laying around can be fun! You should try it sometime, Mr. Six Pack." She smiled for a moment, before correcting herself. "I mean, Mr. Future Eight Pack."
Karlee really didn't care about the fact that he was basically getting her soaked. It actually felt nice. It was better than going swimming. She figured she would at least go part way out into the water - at least enough to get Asher to stop from throwing her in. "Shot's don't cure cooties! Everybody know's that. Jeez. She said, smiling up at him. "But I guess you're safe." She said, narrowing her eyes at him for a moment. She obviously didn't really believe in the whole cooties thing, but joking around with her best friend was okay. She covered her head again and squealed a little as he shook his head like a dog and got water all over her again. "Asshole." She said, laughing a little bit, before sighing. "Okay, okay." She said, before pushing herself up and standing up. "But, I've gotta tell you the truth." She said, glancing up at him before she started walking towards the water. She wasn't going to tell him she was scared shitless of it. "I uh. I am not a very good swimmer.." She said, looking over at him. She took a step into it, letting the water lap lightly at her ankles. That was about as far as she figured she would go in. The rest of it just got way too deep. Well, too deep for her likings anyways.

"Oh, yes please," Asher countered with a chuckle, knowing full well that even though Karlee was strong she was not tough enough to best him in an arm wrestling match. Or perhaps he was just overconfident, which he tended to be sometimes. It probably got him in trouble too, depending on the situation. That usually pertained to his extreme sports but fortunately he had yet to die from pushing the envelope. 'Just a little further!' he would always say, hoping that it would not be his famous last words. Maybe they would be. "Yeah, fuck the rules, but only the ones that don't put me in jail." Because that would be a bit counterproductive. How could you possibly enjoy life if you were busy sitting behind bars? Asher smiled and poked at her stomach playfully. "Yep, you do. I'm glad yours aren't showing though because girls with really visible abs is kinda creepy." Like those women who were overly buff and probably took steroids to get that way. Asher inwardly shuddered at the thought.
He had to agree that natural tanning was better than sitting in a tanning booth and turning some sort of orange color. Fake and bake was simply not attractive. "I'm glad you tan naturally! Besides, even though both ways can give you skin cancer at least you can get vitamins this way." It could always be worse, he supposed. Choose the lesser of two evils. If you enjoy tanning, at least pick the one that gives you some sort of positive outcome. Asher smiled at her confidently and inhaled, puffing out his chest a little. "Maybe I should make that my new title. Mr. Future Eight Pack. Pretty snazzy, I think." What he would give to sprout two extra ab muscles.
Asher pouted a little bit. "They do too cure cooties! I don't know what you're talking about." He crossed his arms over his chest indignantly, but could only hold his expression for so long before breaking into another smile. His positive attitude and bright disposition made it difficult for him to keep a straight face. Certainly could not get away with murder. It was hard for him not to laugh when Karlee started to squeal but he managed for the time being. "Aw, I'm not that bad," He replied to her 'asshole' comment, watching as she finally relented and stood up. His brows furrowed in confusion but did not say anything as she walked towards the water, keeping pace alongside her as she did so. "Oh." Was about all he could say at first, rubbing the back of his head. Asher had not been aware of this, nor was he aware that it was a cover up for her fear. He smiled and put an arm around her. "I can help you learn if you want. It'll be fun! And we can take it really slow or...whatever you want." He might not have been extremely sensitive to people's hesitations and fears but this was his best friend. He was going to try his best.

OUTFIT Karlee liked most sports. Hell, even the regular ones. She wasn't quite as into extreme sports as Asher, but she liked them. Hell, they had talked about going sky diving a while back, they just hadn't gotten to it yet. Cliff diving was off her list - due to the fact that, you know, you dived into water. She hoped that someday she would get over her immense fear of water, but it wasn't going to happen over night. "Well I mean, as long as you don't like... murder somebody. I think you're okay there. Or run into somebody with your car. I hear vehicular homicide get's you behind bars for a while." She said, trying to stay serious and nodding a little bit. She was obviously just kidding around - in the sense that she didn't think he wass really going to run over somebody. "Ew, yeah. That's gross." She said, shuddering a little before placing her hands over her stomach.
He did have a point. Skin cancer wasn't ever a good thing, but she risked that to not look like a ghost. Naturally, she was extremely white. The typical really pale, blonde hair, blue eyes. She didn't get lucky enough for that. She was only thankful for her fast metabolism. Pretty much meant she could eat like a monster and not gain much weight. But, she did exercise too. She wasn't lazy in the least. "Vitamin C for the win!" She said, dramatically pumping her fist. "Or D or whatever the hell letter the sun gives you." She said, waving off her comment. She really had no idea what vitamin the sun gave you, but it was some letter. "I think you should get that printed on a tee shirt." She said, placing her hands on her hips and nodding. "Maybe that's what I'll do for your birthday. But wait - You never wear shirts. So maybe you should get it printed on a pair of boxers instead." She said, smirking a little before nodding her head. "Yeah, I think that would be better."
"Lies! It's just a cover up. Like.. late onset puberty. But late onset cooties." She realized after saying it that she made no sense, but that was alright. She was pretty much always joking around with Asher so she figured that she didn't have to make sense. He would figure out what she meant. Eventually. Even if it was twenty years from now it would come back on him. "No. You're not. I'm sorry, that was out of line. Should I say Donkey hole. next time?" She said, and couldn't help but laugh. She never really thought before she spoke, which was probably obvious right about now. Thinking on the spot was probably something she had mastered through the years. " Uh, you don't have to do that. Really, it's okay. Not a huge deal." She said, smiling over at him. "Shouldn't have to burden you like that." She said, sighing and looking out at the water. Her heart was already racing, and she really didn't like this. She wanted to learn how to swim - she really did, and she knew Asher wouldn't let anything happen to her. So what was the harm? Besides giving herself a heart attack. "Okay, truth. I can't swim at all. I've... never actually swam.. ever..." At least not successfully anyways.
