Another day, another class. That’s what Jeremy had to tell himself when he gets assignments he could easily do in his sleep. But Jeremy was raised proper by his parents and never once gave the teacher any lip. Instead Jeremy imagines that a camera turns and zooms in upon a cozy little kitchen on a sound stage, decorated with black and white modern decor. In the middle of the counter stands a man, Jeremy Marchel in an apron with his back to the camera. He seems to be looking out from of the fake window to the painted décor behind.
'Three, two, one and action,' a disembodied voice would call.
The boy turns around and smiles at the camera. 'Welcome on this fine day to my new program; Cooking with Jeremy. I am Chef Jeremy Marchel, owner of a few Michelin star restaurants, as many of you may know me. But for those of you who don’t know the guest standing next to me,” He bumped shoulders with Brynn as he entertained himself and hopefully his friend with his fake cooking show monologue. ”Brynn Vidal. Brynn here is going to help me out today with the always crowd pleasing: Chocolate lava cake. First off, to be a good cook, you need the right attire.'
Promptly he pulls out a cup of flour he had set aside and dabs his finger into the white powder. Drawing fake football strips under his eyes he turns towards his mute friend and laughs. ”Well, come on then Brynn,” he deep southern accent making her name sound like ‘burinn’, ”Give the audience what they want.” In mock threat he brings his powder finger closer to her face.
Of course the two are not truly being filmed by anyone. In fact they were very much surrounded by their classmates in home economics, who at this point were casting some strange looks at the pair. Even more strange was that they were staring at one of the few males in the class who wasn’t here for an assignment. Earlier the Earth had mixed whatever dry ingredient he could see that Brynn had got out from the school pantry. He got tired and bored of mixing so he thought of something fun to do while his friend read the recipe.

Goddess this class is gonna bore me to tears... Brynn breathed out a silent yawn as she stared mindlessly at a bowl of dried ingredients she'd put together only moments ago. The teacher was going on and on about baking time and the texture of cakes-- all things Brynn was fully aware of, as she was a wiz at baking. As of now, the young student found herself mixing the powder with a red light saber chopstick, the other of the pair properly fixed in Finn's hand to exaggerate her Adventure Time outfit. When were they gonna start baking? Brynn had half a mind to start cranking up the oven and starting herself, lesson or no lesson.
She found herself glancing in the direction of her lab partner, Jeremy. He was looking away as if lost in some sitcom show which made Brynn crack a smile. She turned her curious baby blues towards the teacher to see if she'd noticed-- she hadn't. Brynn allowed her body to settle again, focusing on the bowl, and just as she got herself lost a voice caught her attention.
"Welcome on this fine day to my new program; Cooking with Jeremy. I am Chef Jeremy Marchel, owner of a few Michelin star restaurants, as many of you may know me. But for those of you who don’t know the guest standing next to me," It was Jeremy bumping a wide eyed Brynn. He then went on to explain she was his second hand and that she would be helping him bake their assignment. Brynn laughed silently, her hand over her mouth as if a noise were actually leaving her lips. Jeremy was crazy.
Next thing she knew, he was drawing powder white strips across his cheek bones and held an intimidating finger towards her. "Oh no," Brynn's lips mouthed and she backed away immediately. She smiled wickedly as she held up her red light saber and placed her free hand over her mouth, breathing for Darth Vader affect. Some of the students around them were laughing-- Brynn and Jeremy were always doing something stupid in this class. Bryn proceeded to tap his threatening finger with the chopstick, sending the message that he'd better get it away from her or there would be an epic battle waiting for him.

The playful taps with her chopstick was enough of a signal for Jeremy to pull back his attack against Brynn. ”Suit yourself. Don’t be jealous when all the cool kids start wearing flour on their face and you’re left behind in the dust. I tried to bring you along with the trend.” He had all of the dry ingredients mixed so far, except for the flour. Jeremy tended to add flour last out of all the ingredients so that he did end up over mixing the flour. While cooking was Jeremy forte, he had picked up a few baking tips along the way so far from his mother. Over mixing the flour would cause the glutton to release and make the cake tough.
”Do you want to start melting the chocolate and butter in a double boiler? I don’t think you and I really need to wait for the rest of the class.” The problem with Home Ec was that all projects had to be condensed into the allotted amount of class time, thus making all the recipes total time in the kitchen less than fifty minutes. For the most part Jeremy took the class because there wasn’t any other elective he was interested in. He wasn’t dumb, more so average in his studies, but the fact that he could be naïve and even obtuse at times wasn’t a benefit in the classroom setting. Zachary and Garrett were the brainy ones while Jeremy was the creative force.
Jeremy skimmed over recipe and let out a defeated sigh. ”It would be better if we could put orange liqueur in this, but Ms. Atkins would never trust us with that.” A few Fire students had broken into the school’s cabinet and nicked whatever they could one day. Mostly it was some flavored liqueurs, cooking sherry, a bottle of vodka, and some terrible white wines to reduce for sauces. Leave it to a bunch of mean kids looking for a quick buzz to ruin his favorite subject. ”Did you do anything fun this weekend?” the boy asked hoping to clear the thought of Fire students from his mind.

Brynn made a face at him when he mentioned trends. Was he serious? Did he somehow forget her over the summer? She rolled clearly disappointed blue eyes and turned to her notebook, positioned between them so that Jeremy could read without an issue. She picked up the sushi pen laying next to her book and started to print bubbly letters on the pastel pink pages. Her writing was careful, but quick as she was accustomed to speaking this way. Over the years she had learned to write quickly while still keeping her words beautiful and easy to read. With a final curl of her pen on the paper, Brynn nudged the notebook over to her partner. She crossed her arms and looked at him with smug tattooed all across her face.
[Jerbear, clearly I am top of the list on the cool and trendy charts. I mean look at me!] when Brynn assumed Jeremy was done reading, she made a show of her Adventure Time themed outfit. Who didn't like Adventure Time? It was awesome, and Brynn was quite proud of her quirky outfit. She made a show of giggling silently then went back to her notebook, writing a quick note, [ one liquified cocoa and margarine comin' right up.]
Brynn left Jeremy with that comment as she headed over to the many fridges in the back of the classroom. They were full of stuff that the students would weekly go on grocery shopping field trips in Maple Hollow to resupply. She grabbed a stick of butter from the fridge drawer and 4 squares of semi-sweet baking chocolate from the pantry before making her way back to Jeremy. She set her items down on the counter and cranked up the oven on low for the time being so that she would still have time to speak with Jeremy and get her things ready. As she was unwrapping the butter, Jeremy was wishing they could use orange liqueur for their cake. Brynn's mouth was already watering at the mere idea. Jeremy always added odd things to the recipe that made his creations perfect. She smiled at him then turned back to her notebook to write a reply just as he asked her if she did anything this weekend.
Whatever she was writing in response to the addition to their recipe she scratched out and started new. [I just went out into town and drooled in this new bakery I found. No cops were called luckily ] Brynn giggled at her thought of the look on the baker's face. She looked so concerned as if Brynn were homeless or something, maybe even mental. No no, she was just weird. Nonetheless, she promised herself that she would go back whenever she could and maybe bring Jeremy with her. He seemed to be the only one she liked to hang out with these days.
[How are Garret and Zack?] she added, looking up at him with curious eyes. She knew that he and Zack were probably better than peaches and cream. What she was more worried about was Jeremy and Garret. Those two fought worse than Batman and Joker.
