It seemed Ashley had claimed Damen as her own. Altair didn’t really pick up any signs of nervousness, and she wouldn’t coach the girl in how to deal with a couple of guys in a bar. Tad went to get her a beer and apparently one for himself, and so Altair was left to converse with the remaining group, feeling sorry for Mark, the third wheel. I can take on two guys, she thought, her smile hiding anything that may have been going on in her head. She paid half a mind to the conversation between Ash and Damen. ”Yeah,” he said, leaning back as he answered, sending a glance to his buddy. ”Boy’s night out, yanno. Guess it’s girl’s night out for you two then?” Tad returned and dropped the beer in Altair’s hand. ”Yep,” she responded, taking a swig. She was feeling the buzz, but it didn’t do much except make her a little light-headed and happy.
Easily made bored as she was, Altair tapped her fingernails on the table and said, ”You guys work out?” It seemed like a nonchalant conversation starter, but she had her intentions. ”You know, a little on the weekends,” Tad said, seemingly joking by the way he brushed off his shirt. ”Mhmm,” Altair, seemingly disbelieving. Mark leaned forward, looking at her. ”What, you don’t believe us?” She raised her eyebrows, tilted her head. ”Well, I’ll need you to prove…how about an arm-wrestling match?” The coy way she suggested it made it seem like she wouldn’t be able to hold her own. Now she did work out. The group laughed as Mark put his elbow on the table, wriggling his fingers. ”How about you against me, Ash?” Damen said, leaning in close to the other girl’s ear. Altair took Mark’s hand in her own as Tad counted down and then it was on, the intense faces and the laughter. The older girl picked up her drink and took a sip when she finally got the edge over Mark and slammed his hand back onto the table. ”What kind of regiment do you have?” she asked innocently. The two others busted their friend's balls, and suggested that he pay for their drinks the rest of the night.
