The lake, the one place that Gabriella can relax, but she can also use that time to practice her abilities. It’s such a big body of water; she doesn’t see why she can’t do so. The girl knows she won’t be attacking anyone while she’s practicing. Hopefully no one will get too close to her when she is practicing. Her professor did tell her to reserve some time to practice and tone up her abilities, so she saw it as a chance to put in as much time and effort right now. Hopefully she won’t go over time for her break, but she most likely will, considering how she never really stuck to her own schedules.
Gabriella looked at the lake and saw a couple of ice floating around. At least the lake hasn’t complete froze over for the winter. It is January so spring is coming in about two months. But the chill in the air told her that it was going to be a long two months. The girl tightened her jacket around her body to keep the cold air from coming in, and tightened the scarf around her neck, but not too tight. The eighteen year old took off her gloves and put them in her jacket pockets, and started with some simple movements. She smiled as she felt that she could do more.
After dropping that ball of water, the girl went on to more complicated movements. She felt her energy draining a bit, but not so much that she felt like she ran five hundred miles. The girl continued to practice the movements she recently learned but her energy suddenly left her. Gabi fell on all fours on the snowy ground. Her bare hands started to numb from the snow, and started to soak her jeans. Gabriella dusted the snow off her hands grabbed her water bottle from the bag and took a drink. The warm liquid filled her core with the warmth that it was seeking ever since she left the heated buildings of the school.
Gabriella got up on her feet again, and started to practice with the basics first and moving up, slowly and gradually this time. She tried to preserve her energy as much as possible so she can concentrate on what was taught in the last session of class later. The girl was starting to feel nervous when she got closer to the familiar movements that she just learned. But she ignored it and concentrated on the movement of the water along with her body. She did it! She finally did it! Her professor should be rather impressed by this. Gabi smiled, even though she was out of breath. She grabbed her water bottle again and felt the warmness of the water fill her up. Now, maybe it’s time for an actual break.

Altair wasn’t as opposed to the lake as some Fire students were. Back home—not home, Great Britain—she remembered when she and her sisters were young, their parents would take them out. Of course, the lake at the school was different than any others for the fact that it was the hangout spot for Water elementals, who practiced their powers out in the open. They hung out on the bank and did whatever the fuck the stupid Water kids wanted to do. In the milder months, they would swim, along with anyone else who had taken a liking to the lake. Altair was one of them, for the simple fact that she got to rock a bikini. She was proud of her body, and she took any chance she got to show it off. Of course, she hated getting her hair wet because she came out of the lake looking lie a dog, but she didn’t mind swimming.
So it wasn’t too uncommon for her to pass by the lake, if just simply for the view. It was huge, almost like an ocean but too placcid to be considered such. And just as common was the fact she was in a temper. She spat blood on the ground, the result of being punched in the jaw and biting her cheek hard. She always appreciated a guy who faught, she did not appreciate professors breaking up fights however. The war was simmering down, but she was milking the aggression other students may have for the time being. Maybe she was a masochist, but the Fire girl liked being angry, being wound up. It tightened her muscles, made her feel like a coiled spring, and it exhilerated her. Maybe it was a replacement for the drugs, but not a much better one. Sure, she couldn’t overdose on anger, but fighting could land her in deep shit. Not that she ever cared, even though she knew fully well that she should. For her sister’s sake, if only that. And for her own sake, of course—Altair was always thinking about herself.
As she pulled her jacket closer to her body, sneakers making trekking across sand easier, she caught site of Gabriella. With a bit of a smirk, she took out her lighter and flicked it up. It was quite annoying, still having to use it in the eleventh grade, but she knew next year that she would be fixing herself up to handling her element without a catalyst. As it were, a flame licked out and wrapped around the girl’s hand as she held the water bottle, likely able to cause a few unsightly burns. ”I’m sorry, didn’t mean to burn ya there.” Her eyes held a malicious glint, and Gabriella should have known. They had pre-existing issues with each other, after all, and violence was not unusual for the blind. ”You all right, Seong?” A clipped, half-amused laugh escaped her lips then, and she dropped her hand to her side.

Gabriella was enjoying the warmth that was emanating from her water bottle. It felt nice on her chilled hands. Then she felt another source of warmth surround her hands. It felt nice until it became too hot for any human being's liking. She dropped her water bottle and saw slight burns on her hand. A fire elemental is out here. Then she heard the familiar voice of Altair. The girl she has never really liked. At least she had the advantage right now, her element was right next to her.
"It's quite alright, I know how to manage burns. Gabriella said approaching closer to the lake and put her injured hand in the water, the best way to deal with a burn is to cool the injured area first before bandaging it. Unfortunately the girl didn't have any bandages on her, and she was certainly not going to ask Altair for some bandages. "I'll be alright, Bennett." the girl snapped as she slowly pulled her hand out of the freezing water. The girl examined it and saw it was going to be alright. She put her glove on the injured hand as a bandage, it's better than nothing.
"What are you doing out here?" Gabriella asked with more venom in her tone than she intended, but who cares? It's not like her feelings are going to be hurt. She's just a feisty fire elemental that likes to have a fight now and then. Gabriella had an idea, but she was waiting for the girl to answer. She only had her right hand, she would use her left hand but the slight burns might blister, and she doesn't want that, if she wants it to heal without any scars. Altair might have the advantage now that she's confined to using one hand to manipulate the body of water.

Altair observed the brunette, entire demeanor nonchalant. Hands in her pockets, she lifted an eyebrow as the girl replied as if she hadn’t just attacked her, perfectly civil and polite. The Fire student snorted as Gabriella dipped her hand in the water. ”Actually, the medical wing is the best way to manage burns, but whatever you want to do,” she said, close to laughing. The nurses in the medical wing could heal any elemental wound, and as a college student, she figured Gab should have known this. That was the irony that amused the blond so. When in a good mood, she was simply malicious. Bad mood, she wouldn’t have just stopped at a burn to the hand. She guessed the Water graduate was lucky for that.
Blue eyes glimmered as she received a snippy retort. There was a time when she would have held no amusement for the girl, back when she and her sisters had travelled like a pack when first entering the Academy. That was a year ago, before things fell apart, before Syria died and she learned what was wrong with her siblings. ”What a shame,” Altair said coolly. She actually did snort when she saw Gab use her glove as a bandage, ducking her head as she shook it. Really, she wouldn’t have even bothered if the girl wasn’t so funny. ”Maybe I should try harder.” She tilted her head, face pleasant and affable. This girl just didn’t seem to fight back, otherwise Altair would have been in big trouble. Fucking with a graduate was just asking for it. She almost sneered, thinking of Dale. Even the thought of him made her temper spark.
A cold smirk, almost a sneer crossed her face. ”Walking. Why, you got something to say about it?” Like everything with her, it was a challenge. She wanted a fight, but she knew Gabriella wouldn’t give her own. It was the thrill of the chase, though. ”You Waters don’t own the lake, in case you’ve been misinformed,” she said sarcastically, finger running over the ignition of her lighter. The flame sparked up threateningly each time her thumb passed over it, but Altair didn’t attack again. Not yet. She was having some fun right now. Did that make her entirely sadistic? She didn’t think so.

Gabriella heard the fire elemental mention the medical wing being the best place to heal her burns. Of course she knew that, but she didn't want to go now. She can go later and still be okay, it's not like the burn was going to kill her. "Thanks, I'll go there later," She replied holding on to her hand. She should probably go there soon. At least it wasn't a chemical burn, those are worse. Gabi felt the cold nip at her left hand, and decided to put on her other glove. She can't afford both of her hands being injured right now. She might need to defend herself against the girl's fire.
What a shame? Gabi thought about Altair's comment when she said she was going to be fine. Gabriella knew Altair hated her but did she hate her enough to kill her? That was a definite possibility. The two girls can't stand each other, but for Gabi, not to the point where she would want to end her life. She wasn't sure what to say to her saying that she should try harder. She was thinking of something to say, but she couldn't stop this from coming out of her mouth, "Maybe you should." Great, what did I just do? The girl thought as she tried not to show the fear of what happened next. She did not want anymore injuries from her. And Gabi would always be in defensive when the girls actually break out in a fight. She does go to offensive whenever she saw a chance to do so.
"No, I don't, do whatever you like." Gabriella replied. And of course she knew that she and the other water elementals owned the lake. Most water elementals enjoy the lake more than most students, so she assumed that the fire elementals would stay away until it was warm enough to swim. The girl sighed, she knew Altair was trying to provoke so she can enjoy a fight. "Thank you for enlightening me," The girl said sarcastically. She probably shouldn't have said that, but she can defend herself with the water right next to her.

Altair didn’t hand out advice to people she didn’t like, but it sounded as if that’s what Gab took it as. She just mentally shrugged, still amused. She liked the Academy for quite a few reasons, these reasons stopping her from getting the fuck away. One of them was that some students could keep her entertained, help her practice her powers. Now that she embraced them, it’s something she really wanted. She enjoyed being a Fire elemental, it gave her power, and that was a very good thing. She liked being in control, the one on top, and having the ability to control an element gave her that. Of course, Altair understood that power wasn't everything. That thought kept her from becoming like some other elementals who only focused on their training.
Was this girl seriously egging her on? Altair snorted, rocking back on her heels a bit. ”All right, you fucking masochist. Do you want to die or something? Not that I’ll petition for you to keep living.” As cruel and horrible as it was, Altair wouldn’t really mind if she drove someone to suicide or ended up killing someone. She didn’t allow herself to feel too much remorse, she didn’t like feeling guilty. And so she blocked those feelings out. Of course, she would never do those things because they were crimes and she wanted to stay on the good side of the law. To show that her threats and mocking weren’t empty, she flicked the ignition of her lighter again and again aimed for the hand, burning off the frabic of Gabriella’s glove, allowing the flame to lick up her arm to her shoulder. ”It would almost be ashame to burn your hair,” she said with an almost pitying look, a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders.
She flicked the Zippo closed, though, responding to her next words. ”Thank you for the permission, you know I count on it.” Altair’s temper wasn’t the driving force for what she did, so she didn’t need her anger to continue fucking with Gabriella. Until she grew bored and walked away, well, she would cause as much damage as she could. ”I’m always here for ya, babe,” she replied smartly, smile on her face as she flipped the lighhter between her fingers, seeming so carefree, easygoing.

Gabriella knew she had it coming, but she didn't react fast enough. She felt the fire burn her hand some more, and it went up to her shoulder. The girl used her good hand and manipulated the water to splash on the arm that was on fire. She relaxed when she felt the relief of the cool water on her arm. Lucky for her she caught in time before her hair was singed by the fire. The one thing that the girl noticed was that Altair had to use a lighter in order to use her element. She smiled to herself while still examining the burnt fabric of her jacket, she was going to take that lighter from her. She's not sure if her whole arm was burned but it felt like it, but she's not going to check it now. "Nice try, but you didn't. Gabriella replied.
"You're welcome," The girl replied sarcastically, still trying to think of a way to rid her of that lighter. Somehow. Then, Gabriella thought of something. She hid her smile at the crook of her good elbow pretending to sneeze. Gabriella snorted, like she ever needed her help. The girl moved her arm away from her nose and mouth. She replied with a sarcastic smile at her comment. Gabi never needed her help, and never will.
Gabriella took off her other glove and stowed it into her pocket. The girl concentrated and lifted her arms slowly and watched as the water rose from the lake, and rushed towards Altair. This was her chance to obtain her lighter while she's taking in what just happened. Gabriella made a water ball and it encased the lighter inside. She made it move towards her as fast as possible so Altair couldn't grab it back. When it was floating right in front of her, she knew Altair couldn't do anything. If she opened it the little light of fire would be extinguished in seconds. "Little girls shouldn't be playing with fire." Gabi said with a smile.

Gab reacted quickly enough with her powers to prevent permanent damage, and Altair still wore the cocky smirk on her face. As long as she could get something in, she was content. She scoffed at the girl’s next words, really pinning her as a masochist. ”So I guess I’m going to stop now,” she mocked. ”I shall bow down to you, all powerful Water bitch.” She rolled her eyes, running her thumb over her lighter. Once provoked into violence, she didn’t stop. Dale learned that the hard way in their fight against each other. She hadn’t stopped until she literally passed out and ended up in the medical wing. Altair tried not to think of that. For one, it brought back memories of two people she hated—Dale and Ace. Two, she didn’t like to admit that she was actually weaker than Dale. She hated thinking of that.
It was true, Altair needed the latter as a catalyst, but she believed she could call up Fire on her own when need be. Of course, it would severely drain her and be uncontrollable, but if in dire straits… She wasn’t at all intimidated by the other girl, even though she was older and more powerful. It wasn’t only the Fire girl’s pride. It was the fact that she trumped Gabriella in height and most likely weight. Altair was pretty skinny—she had to be, she spent her youth as a model—but she also had muscle and definition. She wasn’t just built for looking pretty.
Altair was unprepared for being bumrushed, but wasn’t necessarily off-put when the lighter was stolen from her grip. Her glare was fierce, though, at the next words. Okay, now she was pissed, and she was going to show how pissed she was. Knowing that she could compare elementally and that her power had been diminished thanks to the girl’s attack, it only took a split second for Altair to react and punch Gab in the gut. ”Bitches shouldn’t fuck with me,” She seethed lowly, grabbing a fistful of the Water elementals hair, ready to play dirty now. She yanked hard and said, ”I don’t need fire to fuck your shit up.”

Gabriella wasn't surprised by her tone. She always mocked her whenever she could. Bow down to her? What is she trying to make her look like? "No there's no need," Gabi replied, she really couldn't think of anything else to say. She's probably a bit tired from all that studying she had to do before this happened. She wasn't expecting to meet one of her rivals today. She just wanted a peaceful day at the lake with no interruptions until Altair showed, and gave her hand a slight burn. But now Gabi believes that she has a second degree burn. The girl looked down at her hand, and there were blisters on her hand.
Gabriella has never been in fights as intense as this back in elementary to middle school. Sure there were the power of elements involved in this, but those fist fights that she has seen can compare to this. She never tells her mother about her fights with Altair. She will freak out if she knew I was getting into fights with someone who can control fire. She doesn't understand why the girls can't be friends. The elemental powers skipped my mother's generation. Gabi's brother is an earth elemental, but he always wanted to be a reporter so he saw no need in continuing his education with his element. But because of that generation gap, Gabi's abilities aren't as strong as they should be for someone her age.
The girl was brought out of her thoughts when she felt a fist collided into her abdomen. She hunched over in pain, letting the lighter fall to the snow ground. That punch surprised her so the little water ball containing the lighter broke. Then she felt Altair grab a fistful of hair. She put her hands on her head, as if trying to keep her full pulling it off her head. Altair was definitely stronger, physically. Gabi weighs only forty-seven kilograms, while Altair looked about fifty kilograms. The girl saw the anger in the fire elemental's eyes. She had to do something to get out of her grip, but what?
Gabriella decided to use her legs to move the water and target Altair somehow. The girl lightly kicked the snow and saw the water from the lake do the same thing. She kicked harder, and used her hands to soak Altair all over again, but she also felt drops of water fall on top of her head.

When Gab dropped the lighter, Altair took the oppurtunity to kick it back behind her with her heel, not about to let the other girl go. She would be better with grappling against an older Water elemental who decided she’d fight back, but that was only if she could distract Gab. And that meant beating the ever-loving shit out of her. Altair wouldn’t say she fought like either a man or a woman—she fought like an animal. She had one desire, after all, and she was driven by instinct. Perhaps she was a little more animalistic than she would like, but it was fine by her. As long as she got what she wanted, she didn’t care what other people thought of her. Woman or animal, all she cared about was just that she kept looking good for as long as possible.
She was feeling decidly victorious when she managed to restrian Gab, but her eyes narrowed as she watched the girl struggle. The attack was desperate, and even though Altair growled as the water soaked her, she was determined not to let the Water bitch go. Or rather… A grin crossed her features as she shoved Gab violently away, not bothering to brush off the strands of hair she managed to yank out before she sent a hard punch to the jaw. However, Altair stumbled back slightly, determined not to let the shivering overwhelm her. She couldn’t forget that she was dealing with a Water graduate. Even though Gab wasn’t as powerful as she could be for her age, Altair was weaker than she should be. For years, she had ignored her powers under her parents’ direction, and only last year did she actually begin to try and master them.
Altair quickly stooped down to pick up the lighter, and flicked it open, draining her energy for the warmth as she sent a whip of fire toward the girl. She knew she would be outmatched elementally, but the suckerpunched to the jaw had been worth giving up her footing. If she could just get one good hit in, then that would be enough to bring the girl down. Or maybe not. After all, Gab was the one resistent to Fire, while Altair could easily succumb to its influence. She would be doused like a wildfire, but she didn’t let this thought cross her mind as she felt the drain of another attack, refraining from a cough.

Gabi's head was starting to hurt, she thinks she even felt some hairs come off from her scalp. No one has pulled her hair that hard except for Altair. The girl wondered if her little water trick worked but she was still holding on to her tight. She struggled trying to get out of her grasp, but the fire elemental shoved her away from her. She lost her footing and fell on the wet snow. The girl brushed her hair back from her face trying to see what was going to happen next, when she felt her punch her jaw. Gabriella tasted blood in her mouth. But she ignored it.
Gabriella knew she dropped the lighter, but she was wondering where it was. She didn't have to look long because she saw flames coming towards her. The girl reacted by creating a water shield in front of her, and watched as the flames were distinguished. The girl dropped the shield onto the snow, she panted a bit. That little trick caused some of her energy to drain. She didn't want to get up, she was feeling tired from their little fight. She should probably walk away and go get her burns checked out. Altair's already tired. She even coughed, that must have cost her some energy to make that attack her.
She wasn't sure if she should fight back. Altair might keep fighting her until she passes out here in the cold. Sure Gabriella didn't care for the girl, but anyone can end up getting hypothermia, even a fire elemental. The girl tried to get up, but her ankle didn't want to take the pressure of her weight. Great, just another thing to take care of. The girl thought but she got up anyways without really putting weight on her right ankle. The girl made a ball of water, waiting for Altair's next attack.

Altair was officially too enraged to feel successful about knocking Gab off her feet. And when her rage overtook her, there was no thinking around it, no lessening it. She needed something to take it out on, and Gab was right there, the cause of her fury. Hope I fucking broke her jaw, she thought venomously. When she got angry in a fight, all semblance of control abandoned her and she was left with this searing feeling in the pit of her stomach.
The Fire girl should have predicted that Gab would call on her element, but she had to attempt something. Maybe they could wear each other out in a war of attrition, just whittling the opponent down. She understood that she would be the one to give in first, even if her fighting spirit wouldn’t let her. It happened with Dale, and it could happen again. She noticed that Gab wasn’t making a move, as if lying in wait. But was she? Or did Altair get a good hit in? She really didn’t know. And the ball of water made her hesitant to get closer for a physical attack and hit her when she was down.
She flicked the lighter back again, and stupidly decided to put all her strength into the next attack. It may work, but it may not. She was going to take her chances. Anger didn’t allow for much thought process. The flame blasted out and surrounded Gab at all sides, and Altair stumbled back, breathing heavily. Don’t fall. She tried for mind over matter, and so far it was working.
[you have my permission to finish altair off with gab's attack in the next post. xD]

[all right, thanks.]
Gabriella waited for Altair for her next attack. She watched as the fire girl flicked her lighter, and sent flames towards her. She put made another shield to protect herself, but the flames that were extinguished surrounded the girl. She planted both her feet on the snowy ground. The girl ignored the stabbing pain that she felt when she put weight on it. She slowly lifted her hand and surrounded herself with water to distinguish the circle of fire that Altair had made. The girl panted as she let the water fall back to the lake.
She observed Altair and she looked exhausted. The girl felt a smirk form on her lips, she can finish the high school-er right now. The girl ignored the pain in her ankle again and started to form a bigger ball of water. Gabriella made the water rush towards the exhausted girl, and she made sure that she could pin Altair down to a tree, while making sure the water would soak her even more. She put her energy into this, but not too much so she won't pass out after this.
After this trick of her's, she fell on all fours. She was catching her breath, the pain in her ankle started to feel worse than when she noticed that her ankle was injured. And the girl had to go to the medical wing for her burns. Hopefully, the nurses won't be too busy with other injuries to work on her burns. At least they are minor, but there shouldn't be any scars after the nurses fix her up.

Altair glared at the ceiling, arm drapped over her forehead. God, she hated the medical wing. She hated people touching her and thinking that they needed to take care of her and goddamnit her head hurt. She didn’t even feel like sitting up in her bed, so she continued her staring contest with the ceiling. Her body ached, even though she was dry now. Stupid fucking Water students. They caused most of her problems at the Academy. She sincerely hoped that Ace wasn’t volunteering that day. She had enough of that fucking kid, and it was annoying to have him pop out of fucking nowhere when she least wanted it, thinking he owned the place. Of course, there wasn’t as much animosity as there had been before, but if you made an enemy out of her, she would never consider you someone worth her time.
She finally shifted into a sitting position, stifling a groan. Next to her she saw Gab, and blinked at her. A sneer crossed her face. ”How you doin’?” she said, demeanor unpleasant, as usual. Even though they both ended up in the medical wing, she was glad that she could at least get a few hits in. That’s what mattered. She could handle her own injuries, and the sicknes she felt, as if she had been drowning. This was probably what a cat felt like if one ever fell into a bathtub. She tried to shift her body, ready to leave, but gave it a few moments. Her hair was probably a mess, and she threw her hair up in bun. Then, she threw her legs over the end of the bed, ready to put her shoes back on. Unfortunately, that was when the nurse decided to come in. She aimed a glare at the woman, but she was unfazed.
Her brunette hair was mousy, but she was otherwise pretty attractive. Of course, this is what the Fire girl looked out for first. The superficial appearance, judgmental as always. ”How nice to see you again, Altair,” she deadpanned, and Altair’s lips twitched into a sneer. She hated when people tried to act familiar. ”So you two girls got into a fight?” The woman asked, even though she already knew. It was clear what they’d been doing by the time someone had become aware of it. ”Clearly you mistook our sewing circle for something else,” Altair said dryly, itching to get out of the bed. The nurse seemed placid. The fuck is her name? Amy…Esther? No, it’s Amy. Whatever her name was, Altair didn’t care. ”I’m afraid you both will be serving a week’s worth of detention.” Altair blinked to show that she couldn’t give less of a fuck. Amy continued, ”Stay here until I say you can leave, Miss Bennett.” She was about to shoot back a nasty retort but the nurse left. ”Fuck her,” she muttered, throwing her feet back onto the bed. She was not pleased with having to stay in this room with Gabriella.

Gabriella opened her eyes to find that she was in the medical wing. The last thing she remembered was that she collapsed on the snowy shores of the lake. This was not the first time Gabi and Altair had a fight, but it was her first time actually nearly passing out from it. The girl scanned the room to find Altair next to her, her ankle was propped up on pillows, and bandages wrapped around her burned arm. Then it hit her, how long has she been in here? She must have lost a lot of studying time staying here as a patient. After she gets out she needs to buckle down and study and work on her abilities. Her professor is going to nag her again. She groaned as she heard his voice inside her head. Gabi might also have detention because of this. The girl didn't know why they gave college students detention. That's one thing she finds strange about this college.
"Fine, no thanks to you," Gabriella sneered back at Altair. She didn't even bother to look at the fire elemental. What's the point? The two girls can't even stand each other so why bother to look at the girl? Gabriella sighed as the nurse checked up on her. The girl doesn't come here often so she doesn't know her name. "How are you doing?" The nurse asked with a smile. "I'm fine, thank you," The girl replied as she sat up on her bed. Besides asking questions, she was here to take of my bandages. Gabriella watched as she took of the white bandages and saw that her arm was fine. Amazing how the medical wing can heal elemental injuries.
Gabriella thanked her again, and watched as the nurse walked to Altair. The girl didn't meant to eavesdrop but she was right there so she couldn't help it. It was obvious from their conversation that Altair came here often, then she heard something that she dread. Great, I have detention with her. The girl thought as she put both of her hands on her forehead. Gabriella thought about all the homework that would be piling up right now, especially for Statistics. Well detention is supposed to be a quiet place, right? She can do her homework there, and Altair shouldn't be temped to start anything.
