That was one of the only things that bothered her, a lot of heat. She liked when it was cold. So naturally, she couldn't sleep. With a grumble she tossed her feet over the edge of her bed, slipping out of it almost silently. She reached under her bed and pulled out her slippers, sliding them onto her feet. She wiggled her toes around a bit before she grabbed her bath robe from the hook by her bed, sliding it around her shoulders. She shook her arms a little bit, getting the sleeves all the way down, before she draped one of her small blankets over her shoulder. She needed something to lay down on the recliner. There was no way she was going to sit on those germ ridden chairs. She gave a shudder at the thought before she went to her desk, grabbing up her sketch book and pencils. As long as she couldn't sleep, she might as well do something productive.
She slipped out of the room, trying not to wake up her roommate. She wandered down to the Common Room, yawning a bit as she did. As soon as the fireplace came into view Hannoly grimaced. Great, more heat. She shook her head and went to the windows in the room, opening every one of them. As soon as the cool breeze rolled over her, she smiled in content. She snagged the recliner closest to the fireplace so she could have light, and spread out her blanket onto it. She curled up then, opening her sketch book to the middle, to a sketch she had started earlier that morning. It was a chibi-fied girl, holding her hands together. She had hair that went over her left eye, and fell to her hips, almost covering the skirt she wore. Hannoly smiled at it before she opened her tube of colored pencils. It needed some color, so that's what she was going to do until she actually felt comfortable enough to sleep. Of course, she figured she was going to end up sleeping here tonight, there was no way she could go back up to the scalding dorm rooms.

Sleep was an important issue for Ethan. He made sure he got his eight hours every night. Weekend mornings he typically slept until noon at the earliest. Needless to say, he was no morning person. Nor did he like waking up in the middle of the night. So, it was with great frustration that Ethan awoke in his bed after a nightmare. He couldn’t really put his finger on what had occurred in his nightmare. Something about being chased, but he wasn’t too sure. Even if he couldn’t remember his dream, it still left him with a feeling of anxiety. His pulse raced a little faster than normal and he found himself unable to fall back asleep. He snatched his iPod off the floor and stuck the headphones in his ears. Soft acoustic tunes played out of them into his ears, but it did nothing. He still felt wide awake. Groaning, he yanked the headphones out of his ears after four songs and sat up in bed. No light shone in the room and everything was completely silent. The warmth from the radiators filled the room, which usually made Ethan feel cozy since he always found himself cold. But even these ideal sleeping conditions were no help to him.
Something caught his eye from the slight sliver of moonlight peeking in the room. There sat his guitar, perched against the wall. The right side of his mouth twitched into a slight smile. But he couldn’t play here, it’d wake everyone up. It was the middle of the night anyways, he should be trying to go to sleep. But Ethan knew sleep was not going to come easily tonight. He slid out of bed, shrugged a T-shirt on and snagged his guitar on the way out the door. It shut behind him with a silent click as he crept his way into the common room. However, he quickly discovered he was not alone. “Hi there,
” he greeted with a smile. He approached one of the armchairs. “ It appears I am not the only one unable to sleep.” With this he sat down, his guitar awkwardly held beside him. He knew he couldn’t play now, it’d be rude seeing as he was not alone. That was unless Hannoly wouldn’t mind, but he wasn’t sure.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

The cool breeze from the window calmed Hannoly as she touched up her picture. Her hands seemed to move on her own as she simply gazed down at her sketch book. Even though she couldn't stand the heat she didn't want to take her robe off. It was almost like a comfort blanket. Her twin had gotten it for her, so it held some strange sentimental value. She gave a sigh as she flipped the page, sick of the picture she had been working on. She pulled out her black pencil, and just placed it on the paper. She sat for a moment, though, not really knowing what to draw next. Usually the images just came to her, but she was drawing a complete blank. Of course, she had to just at the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs. She peeked her head up from her sketch book, blinking at the boy now taking the recliner across from her. It was strange to see someone up this late at night, but she figured he was thinking the same thing right now.
"Oh. Ethan.." Her words were small, but in the open empty space she knew he could hear her. She found it strange, that she'd been going to school with this boy for years, and she only knew his name. She shifted then, sitting so her legs were crossed, making sure her robe was fully covering her. She didn't think he would very much care to see her in her pajamas. She noticed that he carried his guitar with him, it seemed to be a normal for the boy. "Oh yeah. It was too hot in the dorms..." She gave a little shrug before she eyed the guitar again, finally knowing what she was going to draw. She began to sketch the outline of a stage, hoping to make it one of her larger works she could sell later. "You know...You can play if you want." She gave him a little smile as her fingers finally seemed to move on her own.

Ethan found himself utterly at peace in the common room. The heat gave him a certain comfort and the cool air blowing in from the open windows prevented him from getting too hot. Sometimes he preferred to stay up a bit later. The quiet calmed his mind and the crackling fire made him feel cozy. He was quite content. “Oh yes, of course. It can get pretty warm,
” he said, stretching his legs out in front of him. “ Bad dream, couldn’t fall back asleep,” he explained for his being up at the late hour. He knew he would be paying the consequence for staying up late tomorrow morning, but he figured he’d enjoy the calm for time being. “ Oh right, well, thanks,” he said with a grin. He pulled his guitar up to him, resting it casually against his chest as he reclined in the chair. He realized he hadn’t talked to Hannoly much. He knew her because they had the same element and were in the same grade, but their relationship didn’t go further than that. Well, he knew they had the same idea this night. Suddenly, he realized something. “ I didn’t expect for anyone to be up, sorry if I’m intruding.” He nodded toward Hannoly’s drawing, an apologetic look on his face. However, if she said she didn’t mind him playing then he would take her word for it. He strummed a few chords, not really playing a song, just messing around. “ So, what are you drawing?” he asked. He didn’t want to sound intrusive. He tended to be rather forward and it all depended on how people took it. He figured some people were private about their artwork just like some people didn’t like to share their music or sing in front of others. He, however, never was familiar with these feelings. Ethan was always more than willing to share something of his, especially if it was a piece of music he was particularly proud of. Even he would admit he liked to show off every now and then. He switched between a few chord progressions, mindlessly strumming. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Noly couldn't help but give the boy a smile, of course, it fell as soon as the boy said he had a bad dream that was preventing his sleep. "Oh, Ethan...I'm sorry."
She gave him a sympathetic shrug as her fingers moved on the paper. She felt herself relax a little bit when he began to pluck at the strings of his guitar at random. She gave another smile to herself as her smudged some parts on the sketch, trying to get the effect of lights going off around it. Of course, the boy apologized again, and Noly couldn't help but laugh slightly. "Don't worry about it, really. It's nice to have the company. Unless...My being here makes you uncomfortable. I could always..go back to the dorm." She gave yet another shrug. Of course, she didn't really want to leave. She'd never really spent any time with this boy, even though they'd gone to school together since the begining, so she figured this would be a good time to make a new friend. She needed more of those...Just having Nell, Josh, and Ashton wouldn't do at all.. When he asked about the drawing, though, she smiled, standing up from the chair. She made her way over to him, making sure to keep her robe closed. She stopped when she was next to his chair, setting the book down on the arm. The entire page was taken up by a large stage. The lights were starting to come together, and she had started on the drumset near the back of the stage. "It's nothing that great..."[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ethan’s fingers started to pick a few notes, moving up and down the fret board. The sound turned into more of a song as he threw in a few chords and began playing something he’d made up a few years back. “Don’t worry about it, I’m awake now,
” he said with a smile. Music had become second nature to him from playing so much over the years that he could talk and play, sing and play without difficulty. “ No no, not at all! You were here first anyways. But I like the company too,” he told Hannoly with a grin. He didn’t know her very well and he figured this coincidence would be a good chance to make a new friend. Ethan appreciated anyone who liked the arts. He could tell Hannoly must have some interest since she was drawing so she was good in his book. He preferred to be with people than alone so he found himself at ease in the common room. He didn’t feel like going back to sleep, although he knew he would eventually. Ethan quit his playing when Hannoly came over with her drawing. He smiled at it and exclaimed, “ That looks great! Don’t hand me a pencil, I’d butcher it.” He laughed at this. Ethan was talented in many areas of the arts but not when it came to drawing, painting, sculpting or anything of that nature. He’d tried his hand at it in school but it just didn’t click. But he enjoyed Hannoly’s picture, especially since it was of a stage. Racking his mind for something to say, he decided to state what had been on his mind. “ It’s weird how we haven’t really talked much before. I mean, same year, same element and all, you know?” He said this matter-of-factly, continuing with his playing. He was grateful for the opportunity the night had presented them with to make a new friend.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Noly couldn't help but blush slightly at his smile. Not many people willingly accepted her company. Mostly, they were afraid of her sister. Tase might not like her very much, but she was still pretty protective over her twin sister. She'd heard some of her twin's warnings for people to stay away. She hated it. Tase was pretty much the reason she had no friends, so to hear this boy say that he wanted her company and to smile along with saying it, it made her pretty happy. "Thanks." The words were said with another smile as she settled herself on her knees next to his chair, still holding up the sketch pad. "It's nice to not feel alone for once."
She let the words fade from her lips before she actually jumped slightly at his reaction to her sketch. She blushed once more at his praise before she pulled the sketch book back to her a bit, though so it was still on the arm of his chair. She put the pencil back to it before stopping, biting her lip a bit. "Actually, now that I look at it...It's not really that great." She shrugged a little bit before she flipped the page over, going to a new page. She thought for a moment before she glanced over at Ethan's guitar. She had seen one like it, her sister had one, though Tase's was of a different color. She put her pencil back to the paper and began to sketch the neck of the instrument, all the while listening to the boys words. "I bet it wouldn't be that bad. It only takes a little bit of practice." She gave him an encouraging smile before adding, "I'll even teach you if you want." She was always glad to give her time to somebody if it had to do with what she loved. He brought up the fact that they hadn't interacted much, and she gave a nervous laugh. "Yeah, I noticed that too. We've been in almost all of the same classes since we started, and yet I think this is the first time I've really talked to you." At that moment, she felt a little rude. Yes, they knew each other's names, but that was no excuse. "I'm sorry, I feel horrible now. I should probably introduce myself properly. I'm Hannoly DeVrois, and it's great to finally get to talk to you." She gave him a bright grin as she held out her hand to him. It was strange. Usually she was so shy around people, but this boy, who had so much in common with her, was allowing her to open up.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hannoly’s words pulled at Ethan’s heartstrings when she told him that she liked not being alone. All his life he hated the idea of anyone being alone. He’d been alone as a kid and knew how it felt to be ostracized and different. No one should have to feel that way and was why he made it a priority to be kind to everyone. His spectrum of friends ranged in personalities and types because he wasn’t judgmental when it came to that. Not to say he wasn’t judgmental at all, but he was accepting of people no matter who they were. He found himself a little tongue-tied, but said, “Well—you certainly aren’t tonight,
” he told her, a warm smile spreading on his face. He didn’t see himself going to bed anytime soon now that he was awake. Once he was up, he was up. But he found that it didn’t bother him. “ I think it looks really good!” he said. And it did. He was appreciative of anyone who was skilled when it came to drawing or painting or anything of the sort because he could never understand how they did it. He supposed it was the same as how some people could play instruments and others couldn’t. But it still baffled him. “ But I suppose you are the artist here,” he said lightly, going back to picking some notes on his guitar. He switched between these and a few chords, making a soft melody. He smiled at Hannoly’s offer. “ You may say that now, but once you see some of my artwork you’ll take those words back,” he joked with a light laugh. “ I really appreciate that but—I might make a fool of myself.” Not that he really cared about embarrassing himself. But his art skills were so terrible that if he weren’t himself, he would be embarrassed to showcase them. Ethan wasn’t sure if his comment about them not interacting much was awkward. It came to his lips before he could really think about it, but it was what he was thinking. He nodded at her words, and added friendlily, “ I know, it’s odd. Seems like I’ve been missing out!” Ethan quit playing his guitar, sat up in his seat, and faced Hannoly as she introduced herself. He smirked. “ Why, it’s lovely to meet you, Ms. DeVrois. I’m Ethan Lovejoy,” he said, grinning as he shook her hand. “ Well then I’m glad my crazy dreams woke me up tonight.” Ethan always had a little trust in fate. He believed there was some master plan, and he believed things happened for a reason. If it weren’t for the two of them being unable to sleep that night, they might never have become friends. At Ethan's comment, Noly couldn't help but blush. She turned her head away, though, so he couldn't see it and think she was strange. This boy had to be one of the nicest people she'd ever met, and she couldn't believe she hadn't actually met him sooner. "Well I'm glad. Plus, you're great company."
She gave him another grin as her fingers continued to move on their own accord. After a while, though, she got sick of drawing, plus the fact that her wrist was cramping up. She stood finally before she walked back over to her own chair. She set her pencil back in the case with the others and left the book on the arm of the chair before she grabbed up her blanket and walked back over to Ethan's chair. She laid her blanket on the floor and sat on it, simply leaning up against his chair, her arms propped up on it. She shifted only a little so she could tighten her robe again. She couldn't help but giggle at his comments. "It's really not that hard. I'm telling you, I'm a great teacher. And think of it this way, you could be the one to draw up your album covers one day." She wiggled her eyebrows with another laugh, even though she was dead serious. She would adore teaching Ethan how to draw. "And you know..In return. You could maybe...Show me some stuff on the guitar? I mean...I know how to play a little bit, but my sister got all of the instrumental talent." She bit her lip slightly as she spoke. She felt odd asking people for things, especially when her sister is involved. She loved music, but Tase never stopped long enough or even cared to teach her. Hannoly felt like the happiest person in the world when he said he'd been missing out. It made her feel amazing. And when she shook her hand, she could've died. This boy wasn't just amazingly nice, he wasn't that bad looking, either. "Well I'm glad it was too damn hot up in my room." She'd never really believed in fate before, but it wasn't just coincidence that the both of them were awake at the same time. They were meant to meet. Noly could already tell that this was going to be a great friendship. The two could help eachother and learn from each other. And it always helped to have such a great friend on her side. A yawn escaped her lips as she rested her head on her arms. She stared up at Ethan as he played, her eyes glancing to the clock as she did so. She'd been down there for almost an hour. She didn't care though, she wasn't even that tired. She'd stay up as long as she possibly had to in order to keep talking with her new found friend. She knew there was a reason for the meeting, so she wasn't going to anything to mess it up.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ethan found the night rather enjoyable. Meeting new friends was something he always loved. And he liked when it happened unexpectedly. Ethan preferred to do things on the fly rather than plan them out, and meetings like these were the way he liked things to go. Plus he had his guitar which made him happy no matter what. He smiled when Hannoly told him he was good company. “Well, shucks,
” he said with a smirk. “ And you aren’t bad company yourself.” He grinned as he continued to strum a few chords absentmindedly. He let out a little yawn, unable to stifle it. He wasn’t tired but the hour of the night inflicted a bit of drowsiness on him still. Ethan thought about Hannoly’s suggestion for a moment. “ Hm, well there’s a good point. Or I maybe I could have someone talented like you to make something up,” he said with a smile. He’d never actually tried to learn how to draw before. Once he discovered that it wasn’t exactly his forte, he ditched the idea altogether. His ears perked up at her proposition. “ Oh, well of course! I’m always willing to teach, I’d be happy to,” he told her breaking from his playing. “ And hey, maybe you’ll bring out the Picasso in me,” he joked, laughing. “ You know, the guitar really isn’t all that hard. I could show you a few chords right now if you’d like,” he said, sitting up in the chair. He hadn’t taught a lot of people before, but he did manage to teach a few friends some basic things like scales and chords. Ethan grinned after their formal introduction, happy to have met Hannoly. He enjoyed her company and the conversation had been easy all night. The idea of waking up the next morning sounded like it was going to be a struggle, but it’d be worth it. He was always half-asleep in most of his classes anyways, so it didn’t matter much to him. He noticed Hannoly yawn and wondered if she was more tired than he was. He peered at the clock, realizing how quickly time had gone. “ It’s getting late,” he said, wrinkling his nose. “ Tired? Or should we stay up a bit more?” he asked. He didn’t want to make Hannoly feel like she couldn’t go back to bed. He found he could function on a few hours of sleep but not everyone could. He didn’t care what the course of action would be, but he was enjoying the time they were spending in the common room. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
