I could go for a drink right about now, Joshua thought as he cruised down the street in his Lamborghini, not really having a destination in mind other than to kill some time. Nell was at work and he hadn't been able to get a hold of his other friends whom he usually hung out with, either. Only today he wasn't thinking about beer when the word 'drink' floated into his thoughts. Instead, Joshua pulled the Aventador into the parking lot of the Tim Hortons and stepped out, taking off his sunglasses and tucking them into his pocket. He loved his shades and he wore them as often as he could but Josh didn't like to come off as pretentious and holier-than-thou, especially not when he was going to get a coffee. Or, in his case, a tea. He might not have cared what people said about him but it was always better to just avoid making them talk about how he thought that he was cooler than everyone else. He didn't really think that, but apparently he gave off the impression.
Oh well, he thought, entering the brightly lit cafe and inhaling the scent of coffee and donuts. There was a bit of a line but as he was in no hurry Joshua had the capacity to be patient, glancing around the interior of the place as he waited for the people in front of him to receive their orders. His first thought was that the drive-thru probably would have went by much quicker, but that was dismissed. He felt like sitting down and relaxing and he certainly didn't plan to do that by eating in his car. The sports car was undoubtedly comfortable but there was no way he wanted to risk spilling his drink and damaging the seats or anything of the sort. Shrugging to himself, he resisted the urge to tap his fingers against the counter and instead kept his hands loosely at his sides.
Finally the woman in front of him hurried off to the serving counter to pick up her bagel and Joshua stepped up in her place. The server greeted him with the usual cheery welcome and asked if she could take his order. "I'll have an extra large tea, half a dozen donuts and, ah..." He allowed his gaze to wander over to the daily menu, checking the selection and deciding what else he wanted, "and some of the cream of broccoli soup," he finished, already extracting a twenty from his wallet and handing it over. He enjoyed how cheap Tim Hortons was for how much he enjoyed their food. It had nothing on what the chef or his mother could have prepared for him at home but Josh was trying not to be too bitter about that right now. The more he thought about his father and being chucked out of the house the more it made him want to revenge-spend. Since it was no longer his father's money he had access to, however, he had to be careful. His mother would take much more notice if he started draining her bank account.
After he was handed back the change, Joshua paused at the seethrough glass serving counter until his full order was passed to him and then chose a table by the window to sit down. He made sure that the place wasn't bathed in blinding sunlight, however, for an excuse to take out his sunglasses would just reinforce the idea that he was a bit entitled. Instead, he ate some of the scalding hot soup and enjoyed the way that it burned down his throat. It would be good in winter, he reflected. The tea wasn't much colder but he left the donuts sitting nearby for afterwards, not wanting to confuse his taste-buds with a mixture of real and junk food.

- - I had really just been one of those day for Sam. Firstly she got lost at school, for the first time in a long time because Aramina wanted to show her something somewhere. Truth be told that she never really reached her destination, but at least she did ring up Aramina and tell her that she wasn't going to be able to make it, which is better than what some other people had done to her in the past. Secondly, some 'lovely' younger students thought that it might be funny to try and get her to slip up and lets just say that she wasn't about to hear the end of what had actually happened once they had gotten her to actually slip up. As well as a bunch of other things happening, all she really wanted to do at this point was to sit down and have something to drink so that she could get the current weird taste out of her mouth. As soon as she got into her car she just hoped that the rest of her day would be better than the one that she has just had.
As soon as she saw the 'Tim Hortons' sign up on the top of the very much loved store she decided that she might as well stop for awhile before going home. Parking her car across the road, she stepped out just before grabbing her bag from the back seat and locked her car. To Sam getting across the road was easy, the hard part was the fact that she now had to choose what she wanted to eat and for Sam, that could take quite a bit just do to. Just as she walked in, the first thing that she actually saw was a random dude that seemed familiar, sitting at the front of the cute coffee shop with his sunglasses on. Letting that thought go to the back of her mind she walked up to the front counter and decided what she actually wanted to eat. "Umm," she started just before she had a good idea on what she actually wanted to eat, "Can I have a slice of apple pie with a little bit of cream, a can of lemonade and some hot chips please." she asked knowing that that might have been the weirdest creation that someone had come up with in a long time. Even though that may be so, she still loves all of the ideas that she asked for and all she had to decide now was what order to eat them in.
Handing over the current change or the meal, all she really had to do at this point was wait. Which for some was something that she hated doing. Taking her phone out of her pocket she just began to text randoms that she hadn't talked to her awhile, knowing that there were even limits when it came to that. As soon as her food was ready, she couldn't wait to sit down somewhere and start eating, though the next thing that she saw her really put Sam on the edge. there weren't to many seats left in the small cafe as it was, let alone a table that had no-one sitting on it. Looking around she decided that she would just ask that random dude that she had seen when she first walked in. Walking up to him she looked at him and smiled, "Hey," she started hoping that he might let her sit, even though it would be just a little awkward, "Would it be alright if I sat next to you?"

Joshua glanced up and blinked when he heard someone speak. He had not expected anyone to approach him but did not behave in a standoffish manner toward the stranger... or was she a stranger? Frowning slightly, this expression turned to a light smile as he recognised her and gestured to the chair across from his in a welcoming sort of manner. "Hello Sam," he said amiably. Joshua was much more relaxed and polite outside of school, most days. When there was no bitterness or prejudice to do with the elements and he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of people he couldn't stand he was much easier to talk to. Of course, he still didn't say much about himself and didn't ask too many prying questions but he was at least nice. "How's your ankle?" He might not have been the type to pry but seeing as he'd helped her out when she'd fallen from the tree--or at least they'd assumed she'd fallen out of a tree--he figured that it was okay to ask. He assumed that she hadn't had a concussion because she was walking and talking and breathing. He wasn't sure if she'd been limping because he hadn't looked up from his food until she had spoken to him.
Now addressing her question considering she'd approached him for a reason, Josh's gray eyes scanned the cafe with slight surprise. He smiled slightly and said, "Feel free. I didn't realise how crowded it had gotten." This was true--he'd been paying more attention to the soup that was now almost gone from the bowl. He took advantage of the pause in conversation to swallow the last few mouthfuls down, eating with the slow and careful manner of someone who'd been raised with etiquette. Of course, it wouldn't be apparent unless you looked for that sort of thing in people. For Joshua, manners were more of a habit than anything else by this point. His parents had drilled into him from a young age the importance of making a good impression on people. He usually disregarded this at school and acted however he liked but in the society where his parents were a little more known he was much more mindful of his behaviour. He wouldn't mind sabotaging his father's reputation as a good dad but he wasn't going to have people saying that Patricia had raised a hooligan for a son. He loved his mother, it was Donovan he had issues with.
Seeing as they were going to be sharing a table, Joshua decided to make conversation. He could remember long, awkward silences with Nell when they'd been in their pre-friendship stage and he didn't want to go through all of that again. He was capable of casual interactions, after all. "How've you been?" he wondered aloud. He was asking this both out of genuine curiosity and as a polite sort of ice-breaker. Formalities were sometimes overly civil but once they were out of the way Josh found it was much easier to talk to whomever you were with. As long as she didn't start asking him questions about his personal life he figured he could get along with Sam pretty well. She was an Earth elemental and he'd found their kind likeable thus far. He wondered what she thought of the Fires but wouldn't ask something like that. Did I even tell her I was a Fire elemental? I can't recall doing so... Nevertheless, he had reputation in the school and wouldn't be surprised if she'd found out through other means. Hopefully if she did she'd heard from the less biased and cruel people.

- - Sam was defiantly surprised, you could give her that. She never really thought that she would see the guy sitting in front of her again, Joshua. After the lovely accident that she had had a couple of days ago, considering she couldn't remember anything when she had made her way to the medical wing that the academy. Smiling at the boy she couldn't help but feel just a little relived that it was him and not some weird ass dude that she didn't know. "Hey Joshua." She stated hoping that she would seem friendly even though her ankle had began to hurt once again, for some random reason, though it had been doing that every now and again so it didn't really bother her. "My ankle is doing alright, though it does hurt every now and again." She said as if she was reading straight from her mind.
As soon as he had said that she was free to sit down she couldn't help but obliged to sit on the sit that she was currently lending against. "Thanks." She said as she began to sit down, letting the pain of her ankle go from her to the floor in some random way that she really didn't know. Though she was alright with it because half of the pain that was once there was not gone and she didn't need to worry about it anymore. As soon as she sat down she placed her food and drink on the table and began to eat a few of the hot chips that where in front of her. Once she had eaten a couple she realized that she had forgotten to tell him something. "By the way, I remember a little more about what happened to me." she said hoping that she wouldn't have to tell the story again, even though she had a feeling that she might have to.
Once in a while something would happen that would distract her from what she was doing. Another person walking into the store, her phone randomly going off and stuff like that. All she really wanted to do was sit down, enjoy and meal and talk to the guy that she was sitting across the table from. As soon as he asked her a question she couldn't help but be relived, she couldn't really think of something to talk about at this point other than what people would usually say when they wanted to start a conversation with someone. "I have been good, though my ankle as been a real pain recently but you learn to deal. What about you? Seen any more weirdos come through the Medical Wing recently?" Sam asked with a joking type of voice, hoping that they weren't to many loons that came through with injuries that you could have easily prevented.

When he was not dealing with people on a professional level, Joshua was much more quiet and contemplative in nature. He'd been talking a lot and asking questions of Samantha when they'd met in the medical wing because it had been a job he was assigned to do. When presented with a task Josh always tried to tackle it swiftly and responsibly, a habit that had been drilled into him by his own father. He supposed he should be thankful for the good work ethic but he was too irate with the man right now to care. Nevertheless, his lack of persistent chatter did not mean that he was irritated or in a bad mood. He smiled and nodded in response to her words. The smile was an indication he was glad her foot was doing better and the nod was his way of accepting the statement as sensible. Of course, as Sam didn't know him very well this could all be quite confusing to her. He tended to confuse people at first, he was almost used to strange looks and voiced confusions by now. It was not that he was eccentric, just that he was quiet and he didn't always make his intentions verbally clear. It stemmed from a life of being a loner by choice. He didn't usually have to explain himself to other people. He was getting better at it but Joshua was, of course, not perfect.
Gray eyes reflected a polite intrigue as Sam broached the subject of what had caused all the injuries. "Oh?" It was polite, both a statement and a question at the same time but spoke more like the latter. It was also an open sort of invitation--she could either just confirm that she had with a nod or she could go into detail, he would not object either way. Joshua completely understood the need for privacy and personal space in other people, especially acquaintances as Sam was to him. He had been told he was polite for a Fire elemental by a few of the Earths he'd gotten along with but he didn't think it was too out of the ordinary. All Fires had a potential of being decent people around those they liked. It was their enemies they were cruel to and seeing as most Fire elementals were enemies of Earth, this only made sense. He got along well with Sam's type, Nell's type. He was pretty sure he was starting befriend more folk in Earth than he'd ever had in Fire. The other Fire elementals had always had a sense of camaraderie with him before his betrayal but that was in their nature. It had not been friendship--whatever it had been, it was gone now. He wondered what being an Earth elemental was like but did not ask, just as he hadn't asked exactly what happened. He tended to keep a lot of his questions to himself.
It was true, people really did learn to adapt to any injuries and illnesses they might have. Sometimes it took weeks, months, years, sometimes only a few days. He supposed it all depended on the strength and willpower of the person as well as the type of illness or injury they were dealing with. Other than that, it was likely because adapting was your only choice. What else would you do with an injured foot, just give up and never walk again? Perhaps the weakest of folk, but he gave Sam more credit than that. "Plenty of them," he confirmed with a dry sort of laugh. It didn't sound too amused, even though he was. "The ways people manage to injure themselves at that school..." He shook his head. His expression was distant for a moment as he reflected on the amount of oddballs he'd seen in the Wing during his brief periods volunteering there. "I don't offer to help on a regular basis, though," he said. "Just when I'm bored and I've got the time." It may have seemed strange to kill boredom by dealing with cranky sick or injured, but he liked the challenge. "I assume you didn't have to go back?" It was voiced as a question for he didn't know for sure whether she'd paid a return visit or not.

- - As soon as Sam had heard his reply to her statement she realized that he either just wanted to sound interested or wanted to actually know what had happened before they had met in the medical wing of the academy. Going with the second option she started to think of how she was going to say this, or put it so that the small parts that she knew actually made scene. After a minute or so of just looking around she looked back at Josh and began to relay the information that was currently going through her mind. "Well, as you know I fell out of a tree." She said with a hint of sarcasm in her mind, trying to at least make this just a little bit more funny. "I now know that I fell because the branch that I was standing on broke and I went down with in." Though at the same time all she was thinking was, 'I am pretty sure it was because I had eaten all that junk before hand.' Laughing a little she went back to what she was saying. "As far as I know, I must have tried to land on my feet , for some unknown reason and I must have hurt my ankle that way." At this point she really didn't why, in her right mind, she would try to land on her feet while falling but that was what she came to realize. 'I must sound like a loon.' she thought just as Joshua began to answer her next question.
Samantha began to laugh a little to herself when she heard that may people had been coming to the medical wing back at the academy. It wasn't really something that she couldn't think of, considering they went to a school where people were trying to control elemental powers but she also knew that some people were stupid enough to get hurt just to see the nurse. Though, from her perspective, she tended to visit quite a bit but that was mainly due to her doing stupid thing but it had really slowed down recently for some random reason. "No, I didn't end up having to go back. I was fine other than a little bit of pain in my ankle every now and again but I guess that I haven't gotten used to that now." She said with a smile on her face, hoping that she wasn't really making a fool out of herself. Taking a sip out of her lemonade, she then placed the cup back on the table and started to eat some of her hot, now warm, chips.

Joshua really was interested--that was something about him, he didn't really feign interest unless the situation indefinitely called for it. He was pretty blunt about his opinions but that did not mean he couldn't have a bit of a friendlier, caring side. The only time he really lied about how interested he was in something was when it involved family or, in his childhood, when his parents had asked him to make a good impression on their guests. He had been good at acting, good at playing the part of the respectable and well-raised son. That wasn't to say that his behaviour single-handedly scored them any business deals or reputations but it just meant that he didn't do the opposite and mess things up. With this, however, he was being entirely sincere. "That sounds painful," he said. It was stating the obvious but he was pretty serious about that. He'd fallen out of a tree and broken his wrist before but he didn't think he'd ever plummeted straight down in a standing position.
"Sounds like you're lucky it wasn't any worse, remarked Joshua. This was not suggesting that her pain was trivial or that she hadn't suffered from the injuries, for obviously he knew that she had. He'd treated her injuries in the medical wing himself, after all. Joshua was merely noticing that she could have severely fractured her leg by landing on her feet after falling from a tree. His mind went to gruesome places involving compound fractures and a lot of blood but these mental pictures did not disturb him. Perhaps it was the fact that he watched a lot of medical shows due to interest that did not censor their procedures or perhaps it was just his strong stomach but Joshua was not really bothered by gore in the least. "Nevertheless, it's good to here that you're doing better." This was as sincere and honest as the original question had been. Josh found that he liked Sam, she was relatively easy to get along with and he'd not yet found a reason to quarrel with her. Plus, they were allies. He was not with the Fire element any more.
Giving her a curious look, he wondered, "Has anyone given you trouble about it?" He knew that a lot of people in the Academy acted like a pack of wolves on the hunt--pick on the injured and weaker because it was much easier to take someone down a peg when they couldn't fight back. It was rather dishonourable behaviour but he didn't pay too much attention to it unless it was one of his friends that they picked on. Joshua was insensitive for the most part. Call him cruel but he didn't find it all too easy to sympathise with a person he did not know. Sam was different. He considered her a friendly acquaintance at the moment. It took a long time to reach a real friendly status with the Fire graduate but he could at least be civil toward the people that he liked even if he didn't consider them to be people he trusted. "I'll bet it's hard getting to classes on time when you can't really rush without the pain, though." He'd gone through sprains and strains before, he knew what it was like.

- - Sam could at least say that he was right, it had hurt or at least she thought that it had. As far as she could remember it had, but she did know that it had afterward. If it had been any worse she knew that it would have been just a little more painful than it had been now. "Thanks," She said knowing that he was defiantly right. "It is getting better, slowly." After a few hours she was fine but then a few hours later she finally knew what he had been talking about when he had said not to walk on it as much. As soon as she met up with a few of her friends she was asking them to carry her places and help her walk. Even though they found it to be extremely annoying they got over it after the first day. It was only until today that she was starting to walk around on her own, thankfully.
Joshua's next question really made her think, hard. Sam really hadn't really been around enough people over the past couple of days to know what they had thought about her injury. "Well," She started wondering what she was going to say to this, "My friends where kind of annoyed about having to help me around every now and again but other than that, not really." She knew that some had made a couple funny comment about it but she had learnt to just put it to the back of her mind when stuff like that happened. "I guess that it is but I have at least one friends in each of my classes, they help me get to where ever I need to go , unless I don't need help that is." Sam said with a smile on her face. She knew that at times she could be really independent but her friends had really been there for her.

Despite their complaints, Josh deduced that it was pretty good of Samantha's friends to have her back during a time like that. He was a loyal friend once you got in good with him and so when others didn't display some sort of companionship with their supposed 'friends' it was always slightly off-putting. However, Josh didn't tend to busy himself in the affairs of others so if it bothered him it was never for very long. "That's good of them," he remarked when she told him about how they helped her around school. Privately he wondered whether any of the people that he knew well would be willing to help him if his sufficiency and independence was compromised. Probably, he deduced, but I wouldn't ask. He was too proud to rely on anyone else, too stubborn to ever admit that he needed help. He'd assist his own friends in a heartbeat but like the raging hypocrite he could sometimes be, Joshua wouldn't want the same thing in return. He'd even been reluctant to accept financial aid from Nell when he was pissed drunk and struggling to make ends meet. What an odd way to meet his future girlfriend... ah, but he tried not to think of how cruel and cold he'd been back then. At least Nell, with her ever forgiving personality, would help him if he ever really needed someone to come through for him.
He did not really know what else to say on the subject of her ankle and that was where Joshua stalled for a moment in the conversation. He was not, by nature, an open and friendly guy. It was one of the main reasons why he was so hard to build a friendship with--a person had to trust that he was a good guy and make an effort whilst barely knowing anything about him in return. At least he never asked much of the friend, either. He would never grill someone on a subject that they were obviously uncomfortable with because he understood what it was like when people asked the awkward questions. The long, noticeable scar on the right side of his face was like a question waiting to happen. However, he also didn't want the conversation to get too dull or worse, get silent. He did like chatting to Samantha, so Joshua didn't want her to assume he thought her company dull. "It's hard to believe the year's almost over," he said truthfully, after a pause. He could still remember when it had begun. So much had happened since then and it had really started to change him as a person. Changed the way he looked at things, too. "What grade are you in?" he asked curiously. "Are you graduating this year?" He knew that a lot of people made a big deal out of graduation. Nell's graduating, he mused, but didn't offer that into the conversation. He didn't realise his girlfriend and Samantha were acquainted and besides, Joshua didn't talk about Nell too much with other people.

- - Sam really hadn't known how to ask her friends when she had first gotten hurt but as soon as they had seen her walking around the place like she was, they really made it so that she had no question in what they were going to do. As much as it was a really awesome thing for them to do, she did realize that she wouldn't be able to get rid of them, so that she could get some private time, any time soon and that was something that she was worried about. After the couple of day that it had been, she had really found that the could be suffocating and, for one, she couldn't wait to heal so that she could have a little time to herself. considering one of her best friends had been staying at her place to make sure that she wouldn't get hurt while at home, as Sam's parents were way on a trip at this point in time. After thinking it over for a second she realized that she would be doing the same thing if she was in their situation. "It really is," She started, with a smile on her face, "They have been are good to me the past couple days." And all that she could think was, 'That defiantly is an understatement.'
After hearing what Josh had said about the year almost being over, she really couldn't believe it. It felt like only yesterday that she was walking into school for the first day of the year and she was both excited about the year but also dreading having to graduate for the academy. Even though she was only a day student she really did see this place as her home as she hadn't been able to gain this many great friends who were just like her, almost in every way. It was both exciting and sad to graduate from a place that had had such a impact on the young lady that she was. "Year 12 at the moment," she said with a smile on her face, "I am graduating this year but I have no idea what I am going to do about collage." Sam admitted the guy that was sitting in front of her. "What about you?" she asked, realizing that she didn't know what year or element he was.

Though he did not usually bring his girlfriend up in conversations at all, something pricked at the back of his mind when she said that she was in her twelfth grade year at the Academy, a conversation that he'd had with Nell where a 'Sam' had come into the conversation. He'd immediately assumed male until something Nell said had suggested otherwise. "You wouldn't happen to be in Nell's class, would you?" It surprised him that they might have a common friend in the girl but then again, why should it be shocking? Nell was a friendly girl--much friendlier than he, Joshua, was--and Samantha was an Earth student. Like the Fire elementals they were pretty tight-knit, though it was more like family than camaraderie from what he'd seen. Every element was different. The Thunders were distant, the Waters got along but weren't incredibly close, the Fires stuck up for one another regardless of whether they got along or not. And the Wind element, well, everyone talked about them. Every one of them was different considering they were a mixture of the traits from multiple other elements and so there were sometimes catastrophic arguments between them. He'd heard two Winds laughing about the fact that their common room could never decide on a permanent look because everyone clashed with their tastes and preferences. It certainly sounded like an adventure but he was glad he had spent most of his years in Fire. Realising that his last question might have seemed a bit creepy, he added, "We're acquainted, I was merely wondering." He wondered if Sam knew how they were acquainted but unless Nell had mentioned him, probably not. The couple certainly kept their lives quiet.
Gray eyes seemed interested as she mentioned that she did not know what to do about college. He knew that elementals could enroll pretty late but it was getting so close to the deadline that he could almost taste it. He'd already paid for his next two years of tuition in advance and so had nothing to worry about but if Samantha wanted to get in he predicted she'd have to scramble to come up with something or get some sort of student loan. Maybe her parents had money to pay for it, like his had? "I'm in college, a sophomore" he told her when she asked. Normally he wouldn't share this information but he was relaxed at the moment and he had asked her, after all. He never liked to ask questions that he would not be comfortable answering in return. Sometimes he would but it was rare. "It's not so bad, actually, and I don't regret it." Again, this was more information than he usually disclosed but he figured it was helpful to someone who was unsure of their college ambitions. "I'm affiliated with Fire," he added as he realised he'd never told her this before and figured he should get it out of the way before she heard from someone else and suspected foul play, "but don't worry. My loyalties are elsewhere." Like with Nell, he thought, but this was information that he kept to himself.

Eventhough she had a feeling that she had heard about Josh before from some of her friends but it hadn't been until now that she had connected when she had heard about him. Though, being in the frame of mind that she was in, she still wasn't able to connect what was being said and what she was thinking. Even though in this circumstance she would usually blame the fact that she was tried but during the fact couple of days she was bale to complain about her ankle and she would be able to get away with things. Even though she wouldn't do that in a normal day, she had been doing it every now and again when she had been at home and forgotten to do her chores or something. As soon as Sam had realized that she had that her train of thought had increased she had snapped out of her daze and looked at Josh with a smile on her face. "Yes, I am in Nell's class. We are working on our English assignment later on today." Then it hit her. Josh must have been the person that Nell had texted during the last time that she had been at her place. Sam decided that she wouldn't say anything until she knew for sure, even though her gut was telling her that she was right. Though what he had said next really made her think about it just a bit more. "She is really awesome, isn't she!?"
Sam had known that she was was younger than the person that she was sitting across the table from but she hadn't know that the age gap had been this large. The first thing that she had come up with had just been maybe a first year collage student but she hadn't expected the gap to be this big. She had been calculating the age difference in her head just to figure out the difference between the two of them, "so, two years difference then..?" Though after a while it didn't seem that bad, even though she did like some one that was in his year. As much as he wanted her to go to collage so that he could spend some more time with her, though it was kind of sus. "Fire, hey." She wondered about him being a fire and such, but if he was friends with Nell then she knew that we has alright. It also help that she could have sworn that she had seen him around the school with some of the earth people hanging around him. Then she began to wonder. "Do you know someone named Marcus by any chance?"

The fact that they had a mutual friend in Nell did not necessarily guarantee Samantha a permanent spot on Josh's good side but it was definitely a plus to hear that they were acquainted. There were quite a lot of his friends that weren't fond of Nell ("She'll turn you soft and have you whipped, man!") and a lot of her friends that didn't exactly approve of him so it was good that they had that over with. Wait, she doesn't know we're dating, does she? He figured it would have come up already if she did but Josh didn't bring it to the table. Rarely did he ever offer more information than was needed. The college Fire did manage to smile a little when Sam offered her enthusiastic opinion on Nell, though. "She is," he agreed. He thought that Nell was an amazing person with far more good qualities than bad, but then again as her boyfriend he was rather biased. He wondered briefly whether or not Samantha knew about the trial and how she would react if she did. Nell wouldn't have told her. She wouldn't tell anyone. Then, a smaller voice. She told you. That was different, though. He pushed the thought from his mind, not wanting that grim thought to overtake the conversation. "Good luck on the assignment," he said, then wondered, "What's it on?" He didn't mind discussing schoolwork. Liked it, actually. Ah, the side-effects of being a dork.
"I suppose so," Josh mused in confirmation. Though, there were the age differences to consider. As his birthday was in April he'd started at thirteen rather than fourteen. The 'older' students in the classes sometimes acted all high and mighty about it but Joshua really couldn't care less. They'd get old and die before he did, so. "I'm nineteen, if that helps," the Fire offered. He felt at least comfortable enough to share this with Sam. At the beginning of the year he had been so tense and distrustful that the mere admission of being vegetarian had seemed like a lot. He was now starting to accept the fact that telling someone menial things like your age was not a reason for them to come after you. As long as he kept his deeper secrets under wraps then he would be alright. The question threw him for a loop and he blinked in surprise. "Marcus?" he repeated, his mind flashing back to a rather tense conversation they'd had in a chemistry class. "The Earth guy? Yeah, I know him," he said. "Why?" It had confused him. Maybe they were acquainted and she needed to pass on a message? Maybe it had been like with Nell and Josh's name had come up in conversation. Oh, geez. That would sure be good for his reputation, wouldn't it? He and Marcus hadn't been on the sunniest of terms.

Sam really couldn't say that she was surprised that Josh had known Nell but it was how he knew Nell that was what she was thinking at this current moment. It was more for the fact that she was one of Nell good friends yet she still couldn't quite get it. It was just one of those things that was on the end of your tongue and she had a feeling that it wouldn't be tongue anytime soon. As soon as she grabbed her glass to even try and have a drink she grabbed her glass to do find that she had done what she always did went talking to people. Every so often she would grab her glass, take a drink and then place it back on the table. This had just turned into her having no drink left at this point. After realizing this all she did was go back to eating what was left of her hot, though not warm, chips that she had bought when she had entered the small cafe originally. After hearing Josh's question about Nell's and herself's current project. "Umm, we are doing a project on 'Alice in Wonderland' in English at the moment." she had mainly just wondered wither or not Nell had mentioned anything to the guy sitting in front of herself.
It was more his reaction to her mentioning Marcus that really changed her opinion bringing him up in the first place. Only only real reason that she had ask had been that they around about the same age as Josh had been. Though, by the way that Josh had asked her about him, she had guessed that he and said something that he wasn't surpost to, again. Even though she was going to explain how she knew him she decided that it may be a good idea not to mention that she did have a crunch on the collage earth student. "Justa friend, haven't seen him in a while thats all."

Though he had always been more into true stories as opposed to fiction, it would take living under a rock for Joshua to be unaware of what Alice in Wonderland was about. He'd read the book for the hell of it some years back and he'd been a few renditions on the TV screen thanks to his sister's insistence. "Are you?" he said, nodding. It was a rhetorical question, however, for Josh did not allow time to answer before he continued, "Well, good luck, anyway." Projects had always been one of his specialities in school. They called for creativity and originality to make your project stand out from that of the others in the classroom and he had always taken that much more seriously than was called for. There was a reason he was a good student, after all. He really put effort into the work. His girlfriend was a hard-worker too, even if she wasn't as willing to sit down for hours with an assignment like he was. He knew this because they'd built their friendship through being study partners regardless of their... awkward introductions.
He blinked, a little taken off guard by how she'd brought up Marcus and then promptly dropped the subject. Though he did not get along with the other Earth elemental particularly well he at least had never fought him physically before. He'd also not given away his dislike with his response. Josh wondered whether Marcus had mentioned his name to Samantha along with dropping some sort of negative comment and if she'd just been testing the waters to see if Josh would admit to it. Would she do that? He was wary but also doubtful. Not all people were out to get him, especially not kind-hearted Earth students. His days of suspicion were not altogether behind him it seemed. "No, nor have I," he shrugged. He had classes with the guy but he'd pretty much ignored him after the incident. He tried to remember whether or not he'd noticed Marcus in his classes but couldn't remember. This didn't altogether rule out the possibility that he'd been there--Josh paid more attention to his work than his peers most of the time. "If he's a friend, give him a call," Josh suggested with a shrug. "Couldn't hurt."
