She was just a little bit surprised with what Ashton had just said. Not to many people knew about weather patterns in other countries, other than Aramina that was, that's how she knew what she knew after all. In her mind it was just that little bit weird for something like this to happen, for her to find someone that knew these types of things but it was really awesome at the same time, for some reason. It had been at this point she had really realized what was going on around her. She had never really realized the weather around her had been getting closer and closer to winter and that one time of the year that she had dreaded the most. She had lived in Maple Hollow, or at least near it, ever since she had moved here with her family and she still hadn't gotten use to the winters around here. "I have to say," Sam said, deciding to say what she was thinking, "I still haven't really gotten use to the weather yet, I always seem to get really sick." Even though she was telling the truth, she didn't really tell many people that sort of thing.
Sam really couldn't help but laugh at this point. As soon as he had done that she was trying not to laugh but it was just a little to much. She let out a little laugh and and couldn't help but smile. "I have to remember not to go so easy on you next time." She said with a laugh though as soon as she had heard what he had said next, she couldn't help but just be a little bit scared. "You can't be serious." Sam said as her jaw dropped just a little bit. She had never really been a snowy type of person and it had just scared her just a little bit, now that she knew it was going to happen.

Even though they'd just met, Ashton found that he liked Samantha and got along with her pretty well. That said, he hated to hear that anyone was sick and so his brows pulled together a bit in concern. "How sick?" he asked, sounding it as much as he felt it. His little brother had been sickly for his first couple years until his immune system had shaped up a little better and so he took things like that seriously. Ashton also tended to get sick a lot. Maybe it ran in the family. For Sam it was probably just the fact that she wasn't accustomed to the weather. "Winter is a pain for that kind of thing," he said. "I remember one day they cancelled classes because something bad was going around and barely anyone was healthy." That had been really bad. At least the medical wing had been able to sort it all out eventually. A couple of the illnesses had gotten bad enough that the sick had been picked up outside of the Academy gates by helicopter and flown to the general hospital in the Hollow. Having only been a ninth grader at the time, this had terrified him. It hadn't happened since and so he didn't really worry about that so much any more. "At least the castle's heated pretty well," he mused. The generators were powered by the Thunder elemental staff and thus never went off even during outages. Likewise, the Fire elementals handled the heating. Every element had a part in the comfort and functionality of the castle. It had always fascinated him.
Though Ashton had indeed been serious about the plan to drag Samantha into a snow war at the first chance he got, he was a little taken aback and flustered by her reaction. The boy was a people pleaser and the idea that he might have given the wrong message in some way was not one that he wanted to entertain. "Don't worry!" he assured her, waving his hands in a dismissive gesture. "I'll go easy on you, I won't stuff it down your shirt or peg you in the face or anything!" Thinking about that for a moment, he said seriously, "Careful of the other elements, though. They can get out of hand." Water elementals liked pranking and thus the snow was like fodder for messing with other people. Fire elementals usually hated the snow so on the off chance you got one of them into a snowball fight they'd probably let you know this by pelting you with the hardest ones they could find. Thunder were similarly merciless. And Wind, well... "Especially Wind. They use their powers to aim and gain speed and, well... ouch." Did they mean well? Ash wasn't sure, all he knew was that he usually hated dragging their kind into a snow war.

Sam couldn't help but just laugh a little to herself. She really hadn't thought that the boy that she was sitting across from would really mind that much, not very many people had really said anything when she mentioned this fact to them in the past. This was really something new for her, even though she really didn't want something like that to do because it felt nice to know that someone wanted to know if she was alright. Defiantly something new, for sure. "It doesn't really get that bad," Even though she did sound just that little bit sarcastic, you could tell that she was at least a little truth, "The worst it has even been was that I kept fainting ever now again because I got the flu but it wasn't that bad, I guess." Though she could remember the day that Ashton had been talking about. The most the remembered at the most was being just a little bit sick, though it hadn't been that bad at the time, when she thought about it. While at the same time she did remember how boring it was just to be in a bed for a couple knowing that she couldn't do anything until she toughed up and got better. "That is true," Sam said smiling just a little bit, "The castle can get pretty warm when it wants to."
As soon as Sam heard that Ashton was going to easy on her she couldn't help but just sigh a little to herself. She knew that she wouldn't have a chance if she was to go up against someone that had lived around this type of stuff for a large portion of their lives while she had only been around snow since she had moved to Canada and everything about type of thing was still quite new to her. Though as soon as he had mention how much it hurt to get hit by a Wind student while playing that sort of thing she could relate to that considering that had been one of the first thing that her friend, Aramina, had done during the first winter that she had spent at the Academy. "Trust me," Sam said with a smile on her face while rubbing the back of her neck, "I know what that feels like all to well."

Ashton didn't seem entirely convinced, especially when she mentioned fainting--his green eyes remained wide. However, she was obviously trying to make it sound better than it was and so he relaxed after a moment. "I've never fainted before," he mused, having just realized this now. He'd never really thought about it until it had been brought up in conversation. After all, who frequently went around thinking about their fainting habits? He wondered what it felt like to just fall unconscious, wondered how long it lasted. "Doesn't it hurt if you fall?" he asked, seeming almost bashful. He was worried that this might have been a stupid question, that it was general knowledge most people were aware of and that he was just clueless. Ashton was pretty friendly and didn't usually get shy but there were times when he worried he would come across as childish in the things he asked other people. He was a curious guy at heart even if he'd never really applied that to academics. Where other people excelled in learning things from books, he liked to learn from experience and from making friends with other people. Even if that meant asking questions that sometimes elicited strange looks from people. He remembered having asked Aramina about her family and how he still felt a bit guilty about that. He had no sense of when to tread carefully, it seemed.
He seemed intrigued by what she said next. It was not exactly cryptic or anything but the way she didn't specify how she knew pulled him in. Not that it was very difficult to catch his attention--he was like a kid in a candy store sometimes. "Why, have they gotten you already?" He knew a lot of the Winds made it a personal goal to get into as many snowball fights (and win) as possible. He also knew that a lot of people thought it was a bummer to mess with the Fires because the older ones could just flick their hand and burn up the oncoming snowball if they noticed it. He purposely didn't blame them sometimes but when the snowball wars were all in good spirit then he supposed it was a little bit unfair to just opt out. It was a lot more complicated for an Earth elemental to avoid being targeted even if they didn't want to be. "Did you ever wonder about the snow when you lived in Australia?" Having grown up with all four seasons, he didn't know what it was like to just have one of them missing from the loop.

Even though Sam had said it like it was, just like she usually would, she realized that that may have not been the best idea in the world, unfortunately. She really hadn't told anyone, up until this point in time, about what happens or happened to her in the past. "I can quite say that I remember that much," She admitted to the earth boy, all that Sam really remembered about that was feeling really hot and sweaty and then it was all black for a little while. She guessed, at the time, that she would have had to been really sick for that to happen or it just could have been that she was just having one of those days where you jest get really sick and you have no idea how or why you are. Though Sam was leaning toward the first option more than the second more, to be honest. "I remember a lot of snow and stiff like that outside of my house and then it all goes back. My parents said that I had been about 2 hours when I came back." Sam could remember walking up and looking at the worried look on her parents faces, it was scaring. Though having to explain what had happened to her brother, over the phone, was twice as hard.
Sam could not help but laugh at what Ashton had said, about her getting hit my the wind students. "I have a friend over in wind," Sam began to explain, wondering how she was going tell the story without it sounding really weird, "The first winter that she was here, we were laughing and stuffs then she randomly threw one at me. Hurt like hell it did." All that she could remember from that winter was trying to walk about the Maple Hollow with a leg hurting like hell, though she figured that it would be pretty awesome to show of the purple spots to everyone though. It was his next question that really got her though. "Not really," Sam admitted with a smile, "It was always really hot around this type of year, so I never really thought about it."

He laughed as she told him about her friend in the Wind element, green eyes sparkling with amusement. He did not realise that they were both acquainted with the Wind girl in question else he would have told Samantha, having no qualms with sharing things about his friends with others. He could take a hint when something you told him was a secret but some of the less guarded information was prone to slipping out. He didn't do it to be a bad friend or anything, it was just force of habit since he just so loved to talk. Finding new things to talk about could be difficult, especially the longer you'd known a person, so sometimes Ashton would just get into a spiel about something. "Friendships," he said with amused exasperation. He remembered when he'd first met Nell, all the way way in the beginning of the year, they'd went out and made a snowman together. Friends were the sort of people you could get up to ridiculous stuff with and know that they weren't going to judge you for it later because they did the exact same thing. It was nice.
After the card game Ashton realised that another one of his friends had texted him and asked if they could get a lift seeing as it was raining outside and they didn't want to take the long walk from the Academy down into the Hollow. Ashton had a car, even if it wasn't the prettiest of things, and so he was always up for helping his friends. 'Sure thing :)' he texted back, smiley face and all. He usually used smiles in his text in order to convey his mood, always feeling like he didn't come across as cheerful enough if he didn't. Some of his friends had taken to gently teasing him about it but he knew they were just messing around. He wasn't sensitive and easily offended if he knew that you were kidding. If someone said it seriously, well, maybe then it would get to him. He didn't like to be insulted. No one did. "I've got a soaking and miserable friend waiting for me down on the lawns," he laughed. "I can't guarantee she won't kill me if I don't show up so I'd better go -- this was fun, though." He gave Samantha a bright smile. "See you around!"
