It was just after ten on a Saturday night and Beatrice York was not a happy camper. Normally on a Saturday night Bea didn’t get up to much, she had friends but they either weren’t the type to go out or they were but Bea wasn’t. And typically she didn’t mind being by herself whilst others were out but today should have been different. Today was just like any other day to most people but to Bea it was a birthday, hers in fact. And it seemed like most everyone had forgotten.
Bea was what most people would call a little bit spoiled. It was no secret that her family had money and that as both the baby and the only girl she did get a lot, not much more than her brothers but enough that people sometimes noticed. Normally Bea wouldn’t be so upset that people didn’t remember her birthday, it wasn’t like she went around announcing when her birthday was but she expected at least one of her friends to remember. Beatrice turned sixteen today and even her brothers weren’t around. She understood that they were busy, her oldest wasn’t even in town, and they had eaten breakfast with her but then they just disappeared for the rest of the day.
Her parents hadn’t been able to come to the Hollow to visit her this year but they had sent some money so she had spent most of her day wandering around town and doing some Christmas shopping etc. she had thought maybe once she got back people would remember but she had eaten dinner alone and no one had really been around the dorms or anything. Beatrice wasn’t really the type to mope but there was no denying that she was currently doing just that. She put her book down, quickly changed out of her pyjamas, and hurried out of her room, determined to get out of her funk.
It was late to be wandering around but the campus was normally fairly safe even at night and Bea knew the exact path she would be taking. She probably could have gotten to her destination without the light the full moon offered but it certainly helped. Beatrice made her way out of the castle and down towards the lake. Skirting past the sandy part of the shoreline Bea headed towards the far side of the lake and took a seat amongst a large crop of rocks there. She was frustrated and angry those feelings only amounted to making her feel worse. Beatrice didn’t particularly like people thinking she was bratty or spoiled and knew that was the way she was currently acting “At least no one is here to see me.”
Bea sat on the rocks and looked out over the water, knowing that it would be cold but not unbearable and contemplated jumping in. Even though it was autumn in Canada the temperature hadn’t yet dropped so much that swimming was out of the question but Bea resisted the urge. She was frustrated and swimming would help her burn off some of that energy but Bea believed in using aggression as a final resort when it came to dealing with emotions, instead working through and resolving things fully by other means. The more she thought about the way her birthday had played out the more irritated she became though. She got off her natural seat and walked closer to the shore, spotting what she was looking for almost instantly she picked up the skipping stone and whipped it across the lake surface, letting out an aggravated yell as she did so, “UGGGGH!”
Bea exhaled a calming breath and felt herself calming down but still felt emotionally poopie. Getting back up on her rock she buried her face in her hands and tried to stave off the hot tears she could feel working their way to the surface. NOTES: Yes Bea would totally consider angry!swimming as aggressive. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

The downside to spending the night at the Academy was that it bored him sometimes. True, it was a huge castle and there was a lot of stuff to do but once the curfew kicked in for the younger kids the library closed, the mess hall shut down for the night and the teachers disapproved of nighttime wanderings. Of course, as a college student and an adult he was allowed to wander if he wished but that didn't take away from the fact that there was nothing else to do. It wasn't like he could sleep, either. He found it rather difficult to sleep these days, craving to be back in his soft bed at the mansion with nothing more pressing to worry about than what he was going to eat for breakfast in the morning or which assignments were due on the next day. He couldn't have that, now, and so whenever he left it too late and decided to stay overnight he generally ended up not sleeping a lot.
Well, at least he had no classes tomorrow. It was one of the only things he felt relieved about. Normally he wouldn't care so much about his classes but with the weight of the trial really and truly pressing on him now Joshua felt as if he had enough to be dealing with. He wondered if Nell had stayed at home or at the Academy and resolved to drop by her apartment tomorrow to see if she was there. He wanted to spend as much time with her as possible before the trial. He tried to convince himself that this was for an entirely innocent reason, that he wasn't just storing up the moments in case he came back from America alone. No, he was pretty good at keeping those things to himself. Sighing softly, he allowed heat to wreath around him and chase off any of the nightly autumn chill. As a Fire student it was only natural that the cold made him uncomfortable. The grounds were nice enough, however.
The lake normally had no allure for the Fire graduate because it was deep and foreboding and usually surrounded by groups of Water elementals whom he strongly disliked. However, tonight it reminded him of home and the dark expanse of water that opened out in their backyard. He thought about the yacht that always bobbed on the water and almost laughed under his breath as he recalled a time his father had tried to convince him to come aboard. Almost laughed, until he remembered that he would never step foot in that backyard again, would never share a (positive) moment with the man who'd raised him, would never inherit the mansion that had been a part of his envisioned future for years... it seemed to take the humour out of the situation. But Joshua was not one to outwardly mope, and so his features were placid and unreadable as he allowed his mind and his feet to carry him toward the lake. It wasn't so bad, he thought, as long as he didn't have to get too close.
He had not realised anyone else was out tonight, however, and so when the stone skipped through the water accompanied by a loud yell, he stiffened and whipped his head around. Who was that? he wondered, but did not call out. He'd learned from countless horror movies that it wasn't always a good idea to confront the unknown when you were alone on a dark night. Of course, most of the victims in said movies did not have the power of an element at their fingertips but the principle remained the same. When his gray eyes found the rocks, therefore, he was surprised to find that he recognised the other wanderer. Curiosity made him approach. "Beatrice," he acknowledged in his usual quiet voice. Though the two had never really gotten along, he tolerated her for Nell's sakes. And he was not here to start fights tonight, though he was curious about the outburst of rage. "What are you yelling about?"
