MAYBE SOMEDAY YOU'LL LOOK UP, AND BARELY CONSCIOUS, YOU'LL SAY TO NO ONE, "ISN'T SOMETHING MISSING?" YOU WON'T CRY FOR MY ABSENCE, I KNOW. YOU FORGOT ME LONG AGO. AM I SO UNIMPORTANT? AM I SO INSIGNIFICANT? ISN'T SOMETHING MISSING...? ISN'T SOMEONE . . . |
missing me?
Kyra wasn’t too familiar with this town. Her brother moved her there with him so she could attend the school, gave her a car for transportation, and dropped her off at the dorms. OF course, she was still upset over that. The only reason why she agreed to move into the dorms was due to the fact he told her there were security guards and boys weren’t allowed within a mile of the dorms. Of course Kyra had believed him. She was extremely gullible and coming from her precious brother? Of course she would believe anything he said. When she had moved into the dorms, it was all a lie she found out. Forgiving him was no problem.
Right now, she was on her own. Her brother was successful at what he did. It was expected that a lawyer who graduated from an ivy league college would easily get a job. Right now he had flown to California. Kyra still decided to drive down and stay at his house for the weekend. It was too scary at the dorms when there weren’t as many around. Sure, the house was large and she was alone, but it was still more comfortable than a dorm room. Right now, it was Saturday night. Kyra didn’t know how to work the heating system at her brother’s house, and it got cold at night. While there was still a few hours of daylight left, kyra decided to just buy a new blanket. Her brother had graced her with a credit card for events like that. However, going out in public alone was going to be hard. Kyra rarely did it, and she wasn’t sure how to react if someone tried to talk to her.
In the end though, Kyra had ended up changing into a striped blue, navy, grey and white stripped dress and classic slip-on shoes. She left her golden hair to fall naturally, only putting four hair clips in to make it stay out of her face. It was naturally rather curly and full. Other than that, her face was plain. Eniko probably didn’t even own a single scrap of makeup; maybe some lip gloss if she searched carefully. Either way, right now she didn’t have so much on as a face cream. No, one either wore it to attract boys or friends, and Kyra didn’t care or understand either of those.
Finally Kyra’s black Hyundai Elantra pulled outside of the mall. Eniko slipped out, standing to her full height of 5’11. It made her stand out something nasty, and her thin build didn’t help it. She was self conscious about her height just as she was self-conscious about everything. With her head down and clutching the white bag her brother gave her closely, she made her way to the market every mall had. The one that sold basic goods. Teens with their friends walked by the lonely girl. Kyra was usually alone so she never really felt it. Sometimes though, she did have a curiosity of what it would be like to ‘hang out’ with someone. Not that she really even knew what that meant.
Finally she set foot inside of the department store, and made her way towards the isle of blankets. Once there, she felt helpless. She didn’t know what kind of blanket she should buy, and there were so many options and sizes and styles. With a confused frown across her face, she rubbed the back of her neck while looking. After a few minutes, she must have caught the attention of an employee, because she heard a voice to her left. “Do you need help?” It was obviously male, and that had Kyra tense up immediately. She shook her head, and hoped that like any other person, he would just go away. Apparently though, she had caught his eye in more way than one. “Ya sure? You seem pretty confused. Blanket shopping?”
Kyra heard his footsteps get closer until she could practically feel his body heat. Out of the corner of her eye, he looked to be a little older than her. He wasn’t ugly, but Kyra didn’t know if he was hot. The fact of the matter was that he was a male. “Um… Y-yeah.” She mumbled . She didn’t know how to react. It was at this time she would freeze up completely, and turn extremely doll-like, unable to say more than one word at a time.
The man however, clearly did not understand. He moved a little closer, despite the clear tension Kyra had. “You know, choosing blankets important. You never know who you’ll share it with. Or when you’ll meet them.” That sentence was enough to make Kyra freeze up completely and totally. She just nodded her head, and stared at her feet, trying to pretend that she wasn’t hearing this. In truth, she was petrified with fear.
