Marcus had barely gotten comfortable in bed after a trip to the bathroom when his alarm went off loudly. It was only Thursday and still, the week felt as thought it was never going to end. A groan rose loudly from his roommate who rolled over and glared across the room at Marcus. "I freaking hate your alarm..." he said, the irritation clearly spread across his face. Marcus smirked but inside, he felt the same way. Slamming his hand down on top of it, the alarm quickly shut up and his sighed, getting comfortable yet again. Mornings had never been his friends. Since he was younger, he had always been one to stay up late and get up late as well. He loved the night time and enjoyed watching a movie until at least midnight, but when it came to getting up later, that was when he began to hate life in general. Pulling his off his body slowly, he climbed out of bed groggily and yawned, letting his eyes adjust to the light as he stumbled to the bathroom yet again, stripping down, he turned on the hot water in the shower and climbed in slowly, sighing at the feel of warmth on his skin. "Can't you ever shut the door while you are showering?" his roommate called from out in the room and Marcus smirked. "No, but you will get used to it. Besides, it will teach you to be comfortable with your sexuality.." he said and his roommate laughed out loud.
Finishing his shower took him only a few minutes but then came the tiring part. He picked out his clothes for the day the night before but he had already changed his mind. Sighing, he went into the closet to search through his things and find something to wear. Besides, he could tell by the look of things outside that it would be a very cold day. Tossing a few things together, he smiled to himself when he had it all ready and he pulled the clothing on. Glancing in the mirror, he felt happy with his appearance before he walked away to get his things for class. "You know, you take longer to get ready than any girl I know..." his roommate joked and Marcus rolled his eyes. "Oh, and you are any better? Besides, in the amount of time it takes me to get dressed, you barely have gotten out of bed." he said, staring at his friend who clearly was not planning on getting up anytime soon. With a light laugh, his roommate rolled over again, falling back asleep shortly after. Picking up his things. Marcus reset his alarm to wake his friend up in about ten minutes before smirking and leaving the room. He was going to get it later.
Marcus walked down the pathway towards the school grounds, hoping to sit on the grass for a while and think. It was nearly noon and most students were either in class or in their rooms. Most didn't come outside until later but he liked it like that; the less people, the better. Casually entering the grounds, he took a seat nearby a large tree and sighed, leaning his head back to look up at the large branches that surrounded him. Eyeing the sky, he could tell by the looks of it that it would be cloudy all day and he could only hope for a little bit of rain. He loved it when everything was raining out, especially on those calm and peaceful days. Occasionally, he would find himself walking through the wilderness surrounding the school, just enjoying nature. As he sat down, he pulled his phone from his pocket and looked for Deirdra's number. He had mentioned that he needed to speak with her and besides, he felt like hanging out with her today. Normally, he tried to give her some space. She didn't like to be pressed too much and he liked giving her time to herself. But today, he needed someone to talk to. Pulling up the number, he sent her a text. "Hey, you free right now?" With that, he hit send and waited for a reply.

The days were getting colder, her uncle had been gone for almost two months now, and school was back in it's full swing. Honestly, Deirdra was having enough time with the time she'd been spending with actual people, and the increased stress had her doing less and less of her school. She knew if she told her uncle, he would tell her that it would be ok, but there was a little fear inside of her of failing her grade. She didn't know what she would do then. Already, the young woman was itching to get on with the harder tricks of power control, to be given the freedom to try and move stone, create fissures in the ground. Although plants were wonderful, Deirdra somehow knew that the earth would make her feel even better.
For the first time in months, Dee donned her black jacket, which she'd had for two years already. She brushed through her hair once, then let it fall in it's full length, keeping her neck and back warmer than if she'd kept it up. Then the earth student grabbed her notebook, thought better of it, and just walked outside. It was early, and though she had a lot of time left to get herself some food, she wasn't sure she wanted any this morning. Skipping meals was hardly a novelty for her, and she wanted to be outside. Before it got too much colder and the flowers and trees started resisting her control. Although she was well able to create a springtime atmosphere during the winter at her level, it was noticeably harder.
So her feet carried her out to the woods, gloveless fingers resting in her jacket pockets. She smiled as she looked at the trees, celebrating the season with bright colors and dropping their leaves like confetti. When she came upon a maple, she stopped walking and just leaned her forehead against it, taking in a deep breath. Both hands moved up to touch the sides of the tree. And since she knew she was truly alone, she began to speak. ”I know something's wrong with me. I'm not sure what, I'm not sure how much, but.... Something. I know I don't want people knowing. But I need their help.” Looking up at the heights of the tree, Deirdra continued, ”And I'm so lonely, but I need to be alone. And I need—”
Her phone went off in her pocket, cutting off her train of thought. Dee wasn't so used to getting texts and calls, since there were about five people with her number. Maybe less. It wasn't all that surprising, then, that Marcus' name appeared on the text. He was one of the only one that tended to use her number. She texted back, Yes, I'm free. Then she put her phone back in her pocket and turned to leave the wilderness, to go back to the Academy grounds. It seemed unlikely that he'd be in any other direction at this hour. As she exited onto the grounds, she checked her phone again.

The feeling of the September breeze was enough to make Marcus close his eyes, listening to the birds and the grass as it blew. He could feel the earth below him, his hands planted flat onto the ground and he could feel the calm and gentle vibrations in the ground. The earth was speaking, as if content with the weather and its surrounds. There was no danger, now pain, nothing. It was complete peace and Marcus liked it this way. His mind wandered back to when he was young. When he and his brother used to go hang in the woods near their lake house, they would hurry off through the trees and crouch down were they couldn’t be seen. Then Marcus would begin to search for small plants, new growth that was still young, and place his hands at it base. Then, he would close his eyes and breath evenly, letting his own energy flow into the ground and before long, the plant would begin to ride from the soil, sprouting ever so slightly. It was still small, his abilities still new after all, but his brother would watch in pure admiration as Marcus did his trick. By the end, Ethan would be asking for another and then another. Time after time, Marcus would make a little plant grow and Ethan would smile and clap. They would do this for hours before finally they were called back to the house for supper. Time seemed to have no end then. Everything was fun and there was no such thing as pain. Then, only weeks later, everything seemed to change for them. Ethan was admitted into the hospital and it felt as though the fun had ended. Nothing would ever be the same again. Marcus’ eyes fluttered open as the happy memory ended and a new one began. The one with he and Ethan, in the large, dim hospital room. All was silent. No one spoke, no one dare move, as the two boys said their good-bye’s. “Marcus?” Ethan asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Marcus could remember moving closer, touching his brother’s hand and swallowing hard, tears in his eyes as he stared down at his little brother, only fifteen years old then. He could barely find his voice and only managed a whisper, staring down into Ethan’s eyes. “Yeah?” he asked, not sure what to think of his situation. “Don’t forget me…” Ethan could only manage that much before coughing slightly, his eye lids heavy and drooping. Ethan couldn’t hold the sob back and his body shook, pain written across his face. “Never Ethan, I swear.” Ethan smiled lightly, shaking his head gently. “Don’t cry. Every time a flower blooms, think of me.” Marcus nodded and smiled a little. “I will. I wish you were I flower…I would make you better.” Ethan smiled a little more and coughed again. “You made me better Marcus. You taught me what it meant to live.” The memory ended, Marcus staring into space silently as a small tear slid down his cheek. He wiped it away as quickly as it fell and cleared his throat, feeling his phone vibrate. Pulling it out quickly, he smiled at the reply and texted back. Meet me by our usual tree on the grounds. I want to see you. He left the message at that, hitting send. Deirdra always had a way of healing his wounds with her words. It was not that she was telling him it would be okay. Rarely did he even speak of his problems. But she was there for him and it was enough to help him through it. He missed her, dearly. There was a lot that he didn’t understand about her, of course. Most everything though, he did know and it was enough to put two and two together. He couldn’t get enough of her. She was different then every other girl he knew, and though she had her issues, inside was something beautiful. Every rose had it thorns and it would take a while before she would ever fully bloom again.
