The sun shown down on the school grounds, casting shadows of all the surrounding plants and trees across the large green garden. Many Earth students lingered around the plants, each of the manipulating the foliage around them. It was the perfect day to be outside, and Marcus was glad to know that the Fire students were around to bother anyone today. Keeping his eyes on his book, he did his best to concentrate on the last few pages, trying to finish it before he did any practice with his manipulation but it was difficult. His abilities were his life now. He lived and breathed nature, and although the same could be said about most Earth students, for him, it was reality. He barely kept friendships and when he did, they were not known to last very long for him. His eyes scanned each page quickly, his fingers barely grazing the paper as he turned the pages, trying to get through the last little bit off it. The sound of a soft shriek sent his head up quickly and he smirked, seeing a young Earth girl jumping at the sight of an insect. He shook his head, looking back down just in time finish the last few words before closing the novel in his lap.
Sighing, he placed the book aside, standing carefully and making his way over to a small plant growing in a corner near a large flower patch. It was still very small, having just grown and he smiled, taking a seat on the brick beside it and watching it carefully. After a moment, he raised his finger and the plant slowly began to grown, turning and twisting around his hand. He removed his hand from it after a few seconds and looked away, staring down at the plant again. It was much greener and clearly healthy and he stood, getting ready to walk away when he realized he was forgetting his book. He hurried back to where he had been sitting and reached for the book. Just as he did, it knocked off the bench and felt into a puddle, soaking the pages. Closing his eyes, he calmed himself before picking it up, obviously frustrated. The book was due today and getting it back wet would be a fine for twenty-five dollars or more. He could really use a Water student at this moment. Sitting down, he began to shake the water from the pages carefully, hoping to get most of it out but he knew the chances of that happening were slim.

Juliet hadn't done much moving since she fell out of the tree the other day. Her ribs were still bruised and it hurt when she moved too quickly. The day before had been the worst, with every breath her ribs would scream and in turn make the once tough water girl into a sad pup whimpering. But she was feeling better and cabin fever had gotten the best of her. She needed out.
She slipped into her favorite pair of worn dark wash jeans. They'd seen better days and sported several rips, particularly around the knees. But they were as comfortable as any pajamas. Her shirt was just a school t-shirt in the schools colors. She'd doctored it, cutting off part of the top to make the opening bigger and cutting off the bottom. She liked belly baring shirts. She sighed looking in the mirror. You could see some of the bruising. She pulled the shirt down on that side to hide it.
Jules grabbed her sketchbook and headed outside for the gardens. It should at least be quiet there and there weren't too many decent climbing trees to tempt her. She moved slowly cursing herself out for being so dumb earlier in the week.
The Garden was quiet as expected. This time of year it wasn't a particularly popular place. There was one other student though, Marcus, she'd seen him around but hadn't really talked to him. Earth element she thought and he looked irritated. "Everything alright?" She asked sucking back the pain of her ribs. She didn't need him to notice. Bringing attention to her injury would just make it hurt worse.

The sound of someone approaching had definitely made Marcus look up, almost dropping his book yet again but this time, he caught it and pulled it higher up into his lap. He noticed the girl in front of him was a water student. He had seen her around the school a few times before but had never said much to her. Normally, he was not one to get too involved with others besides those who already knew it. No, he was not anti-social, nor was in mean. He just was unsure of how to open up. He carefully gave a shrug and sighed softly and he began rubbing on the wet pages of his book. "I dropped my book in a puddle. I am just trying to get it dry because it is due today.." he said softly.
An idea dawned on him after a few seconds and he glanced up at her yet again, standing to show the difference in height between them. He was a few inches taller and he did his best not to look at her for too long, occasionally finding it awkward to look people in the eye when speaking. He held his book up to show her the soaking pages and glanced down at them. "Think you might be able to help? If not, it's cool, I understand." he said softly, taking a small step back so not to be in her personal space. Most water students had a difficult time knowing what personal space was but this girl seemed to be a bit more calm than others. He had nothing against the water people of course, just that a lot of them were very...outgoing. Yet, he could basically say the same for the earth people as well. They were constantly positive and in a good mood. Kind and loving was in their nature.
He glanced back to her from the book, noticing a small shadow under her shirt but he paid no mind to it as he waited for a reply. The girl was pretty to say the least. She had a natural look to her, almost soft yet daring. He knew she must have a strong personality and he thought that was good. Suddenly, he realized who she was. Juliet, though she went by Jules to most everyone else. He hadn't fully recognized her until now; no wonder she had looked so familiar to him. Without thinking, a small smile came to face, but small still.

Jules approached him taking him in. She didn't know much about him, she knew he was an earth student like Nell. Nell surely knew more about him, she really had to start paying attention to things. She'd been at the school for four years now and she still felt like she hardly knew a soul. She sighed seeing the soaked book in his hand.
"I'm sorry.... there's nothing I can do. Water students can't dry things really, we have nothing to do with heat. You'd need a fire student... probably a grad at that. Someone who has a careful hand and with fire students.... well we all know none of them have a steady hand." She grumbled the last part. She'd never been a big fan of the fire students. She'd yet to meet one she liked. She tolerated Josh because of Nell but even he stank of fire self superiority. They all thought they were so damn great. It pissed her off.
She took the book from him assessing the damage anyway. "I might be able to take some of the water out..... but it won't be totally dry." She told him looking up making real eye contact for the first time. His eyes were deep, sweet looking. She felt like she was missing something though. Breaking the contact she put the book down on the ground and started to draw some of the water out of it until she had a ball of water in her hands. She played with it for a moment before tossing it to the side. "Still damp... but better. I'm sure the library will understand."

Marcus grew slightly tense at the mention of the fire students. It was not that he was afraid of them for any reason, but they did make him a bit uneasy. Most were terrible with watching where they were aiming the fire and it was dangerous to say the least. He hadn't even thought about the fact that a fire student would be more helpful but now that she had mentioned it, she was probably right. He was about to say thank you and be on his way when she basically stopped him with another comment. He sat there, attentive as she told him she could try and the smile returned to his face. He watched her hand move over the pages and collect the water in then. Waiting patiently, he noticed how she played with it for a moment before tossing it aside. He wondered what it must feel like to be a water student. Of course, his mother had been water herself, but he still had taken his father's genes and become an earth student. Yet, he couldn't help but wonder if his chances for moving mud would be higher because of this. Either way, he would continue to practice to do so.
He looked up at her, picking up the damp yet much better looking book and smiled a little more. "Thanks..." he said softly. He meant it. She had just kept him from paying a fine. All he needed was to keep the book closed and the pages straight and he could do that in a bit. Closing the book, he placed it aside and looked back to her. "I am Marcus by the way," he said, introducing himself to the girl. He could tell that she probably knew of his already but there was no harm in being polite right? Besides, in case he ever help again, it would be good to know the name of the person helping him out.
