Summer in the mansion had thus far been a peaceful experience. Though both he and Annabel were off school for the holidays his parents were not so lucky, and so most of the days they had the house to themselves. He was expected to watch his little sister but she really wasn't bad company to keep--in fact, he was usually glad of the companionship. Today, however, Joshua was alone. An entire mansion to himself and he was finding himself to be bored after only a few hours. Reading could only occupy him for so long. He decided to see if his girlfriend was home and thus pulled out his phone to give her a call. Unfortunately there was no answer and so with a disappointed sigh he was about to place the phone down when he noticed another number a few spaces above Nell's. He didn't have many contacts, sadly, so the 'H' and 'N' names didn't have a lot between them. He didn't mind his overall lack of friends; as a mistrusting person, he figured it better to have a few friends he could trust rather than a vast network who wouldn't give him the time of day if he were in any sort of trouble. He opened up a new text and directed it toward Harlow, one of his closest friends, before trying in a quick message:
Hey, Harlow. You free to hang out? My parents are out and I've got nothing to do. Feel free to drop by, I'll open the gate for you if you ring the house.
Apart from being a work day for his parents, it was a day off for the butler. Patricia and Donovan had specifically asked if Josh minded having the house all to himself so that they could give the man a break and Josh had agreed. There was no reason to make the man wander about a house when there was nothing to be done. Josh was a rather neat person--he didn't make a lot of mess on his own, it was usually only when he was in a rush that he left his things lying around. This stemmed from the fact that he didn't like people messing around with his possessions. He had fought with one of the maids once over the fact that she'd rearranged and moved some items in his room. Perhaps that meant that he was a little entitled and spoiled but that was all just a matter of interpretation. He didn't go boasting his superiority or flaunting his money outside of the mansion. It was true that he drove a Lamborghini but that had been a gift, he hadn't simply decided to go out and buy one. Still, the butler being out meant that Josh was entirely in charge of the household. It almost felt for a moment as if it were his as he sat in the living room and flicked his wrist toward one of the fireplaces, smirking as it blazed into life.
He would inherit the mansion one day; he'd been told so by his father. "This place is too large for your mother and I alone--as soon as your sister is old enough to move out, it will be yours." It was weird to sit and think about the future and about what sort of use he might make of the place once it became his. Not that he was complaining--no, it was great to think of this expansive place as his. He had grown up here, it was the perfect place to grow old as well, he assumed. The idea of moving out and getting his own place seemed alien. Would he want to later in life, though? Josh didn't know. He lived primarily in the here and now--the future frightened him. What if he didn't get into medical school? What if something happened to his parents? His sister? There was also the fact that the future was always changing. He'd constantly envisioned himself to be someone that would reach success and then grow old alone. He'd never seen himself as having a relationship and yet, here he was, dating someone that he actually had feelings for. Josh laughed slightly and shook his head. Definitely enough fantasizing for now. He glanced at the clock and then at his phone, wondering if his friend would text back or whether she'd just drop by. He was fine with it either way.
[Tried to give Nell a reason to drop by as well (:]

( YOU'RE JUST A CANNIBAL AND I'M AFRAID) I WON'T GET OUT ALIVE the dried tears left stains of mascara on harlow's cheeks, her eyes appearing a bright green from the crying. sitting in her mini car, outside of tim hortons and trying to control her emotions, she had just finished one of her daily visits with her twin brother, damien. no matter how many times the wind girl played with the situation in her mind, she could not come up to a conclusion as to way she had not been more involved with her parents, why she had not spent a little more time, or listened just a little longer. although it had been a little over a year since the incident, harlow was still plagued by grief and regret, despite her best efforts at hiding it at the best of times. nonetheless, visits with her brother never failed to bring up tears and moments of silence to herself in the car, always one way or another bringing up their parents and how much they were missed. pulling down her drivers seat mirror, she scowled at the horrid sight that was make-up upon her face and swiftly pulling a wet napkin from her purse, started the careful attempts of removing the unwanted and keeping the rest. she had no doubt in her mind people secretly watched her from the windows of tim hortons, but it would take more than a few stares to make the wind student feel awkward.
with a slight jump at the sound of the popular by wicked ring tone given to only one person that harlow was extremely close to, a smile crossed her face. grabbing her cellphone and reading the text quickly and effortlessly, like most of the young generation, harlow was oddly attached to her cell phone, though not to the extreme. some people went the extra mile as to name theirs. not having to think a second about her answer, harlow typed up her reply within under a minute. "i'd love to josh. time me, no less than ten minutes before i'm there!" she sent and taking a couple seconds to remove the last amounts of make-up upon her face, had the car started and swiftly leaving the parking lot. if there was one person harlow could handle after a cry-fest, it was josh. meeting the fire student in her freshman year, harlow did not doubt that she seemed like a time bomb to him, dealing with her stubborn wind element and all. however, something had kept him by her side and now both sophomores, the two could not be closer. "still haven't met the famous girlfriend." she frowned and reminded herself to get on josh's butt about that, soon.
as she drove up to the mansion, still amazed that most people would not know the slightest idea that he lived in such a crazy place, she ringed for the gate to open. harlow always felt as if she was a criminal coming here, having to wait to be allowed in, as if she could possibly cause any harm. hearing the familiar noises as the gate opened and the security system being disabled, harlow had to wonder what sort of people had tried to come to the place to make them take such extremes. parking her car and taking one more second to observe her face, not wanting josh to question why she was crying, or rather, give him a lead to letting him know she was, she made her way to the house. like josh managed to have, impeccable timing, she was greeted with his face, causing her to smile. he had to have this place under surveillance to know she was near the door, he just had to.
"hey chip n' dale." she spoke as if second nature, the amusing smile the nickname gave her creeping up onto her face. "what honour do i owe such an invitation to?" she questioned, not actually expecting an answer. face it, as long as harlow had known josh, she had been to his house less than ten times, maybe even only a handful. how depressing.

Joshua couldn't help but to smirk a little in satisfaction when he recieved the return text, glad that she was game to hang out. He texted back a simple 'I'll do that' to show that he had gotten it and then set himself to work on making sure everything was alright to be having guests over. He wasn't used to handling housekeeping himself but thankfully the butler hadn't left anything in disarray and nor had the maids, so he was able to expect his friend without the stress of last minute cleaning. He had kept the tiny space of his apartment spotless when he'd been forced to live on his own but that had been four rooms and a bathroom. That was nothing compared to several bathrooms, guest rooms, the entertainment room, the home theatre, the living room, his library, and so on. He had grown up spoiled, privileged. It wasn't his fault that he didn't normally take on the enormous task of upkeep.
When the chiming sound that indicated there was someone at the gates sounded, Joshua stood fluidly to go and let them in--guessing, of course, that it would be Harlow. He also disabled the security systems and alarms so that neither of them were assaulted by the mansion security when trying to have a chat. He was pretty sure he'd done it right. It was usually the butler that handled this but that didn't mean he didn't know how. His parents had taught him in the event that, like right now, he might have friends over while they were out. He also went downstairs into the grand foyer to open the front door. A roll of his eyes greeted the nickname and the teenager shook his head. "Really, Harlow?" He sounded more amused than irritated with her, a tolerance that only came from being his friend for several years. If a newer friend had tried to give him such a nickname he just might have shut the door in their face. Nicknames were something that didn't go down well with him. Annabel was allowed to call him Joshy and he'd given Nell express permission to use it if she must, but they were the only exceptions to the 'no nickname' rule. To everyone else it was just Josh or Joshua. Sometimes Dale.
"Blame my boredom," he said airily, shrugging and stepping aside so that she would be able to enter the foyer. Though they had known one another for several years it had only been rather recently that he'd disclosed the truth about his heritage and his home to Harlow. It took trust before he'd tell someone where he lived and who his parents were, a trust that he felt she had earned. If he hadn't trusted her he certainly wouldn't have been there for her during the time when she had lost her parents. If he hadn't trusted her she wouldn't have seen inside these walls once, let alone a few times. "Unfortunately I can't offer anything too extravagant seeing as it's an off day for the staff, but we can go into the fridge if we feel like it." He had asked her over to hang out, not to eat, but when you were dating Nell Shepherd you got used to catering to an empty stomach. Plus it was always good to know you had the option. "How's your summer been? I'm actually getting impatient to go back to school; no surprise there, as you can imagine." He grinned a little. It was no secret that Joshua was a bookworm. "The double major's been slaughtering me, though, so I guess it's good to have a break. Got anything planned?"

( YOU'RE JUST A CANNIBAL AND I'M AFRAID) I WON'T GET OUT ALIVE an innocent smile had crossed harlow's face when the distaste of a nickname came out in josh. harlow knew full well the rules of the no nickname under any circumstance thing, but as most knew, harlow fell through the cracks more than once. then again, she also knew she had known the boy long enough for him not to break her at the mention of one nickname, so long as she did not abuse the thing.
making her way into the large house, or should i say mansion, harlow found herself in the foyer. with the mention of boredom, it brought harlow's thoughts back to tim hortons and niagara falls. today had been anything but boring for her, if anything, stressful and in need of someone like josh's company. "boredom is a blessing." she replied to his words, a playful wink following. surely she assumed he would disagree, after all, it was a sentence that was clearly asking to be debated over, but it would lead to something to do.
with the mention of food, harlow found her eyes falling to her stomach and the idea of iced capp and a bagel swirling around in it. "i think you are lucky, no emptying your house of food for me today." she replied, a laugh as her eyes moved back up to josh's. "i was just at tim hortons, my routine meeting with damien." she explained, a light smile crossing her features. it was odd to think that at one point harlow had actually liked josh, and more than a friend. perhaps it was the way they seemed to fit together, as that odd pair of friends. or perhaps the fact he was not entirely hard on the eyes, either way, harlow had at some point wished for more than a life of friendship with the boy. "you snooze, you lose." he mind teased and harlow shrugged. she missed one worm in the morning, but she would eventually get the other.
"surprisingly, that is something we can agree on mister." she answered to the mention of school. had harlow been back at the academy, still trying to fight with her element every step of the way, she would be dreading the idea. however, ever since her wind buddy and her had been getting along and corporating, she was excited to finally unleash her powers better. "besides my meeting with damien, just waiting to meet that girlfriend of yours." she added in, a light nudge placed on josh in the process. there was no hiding harlow's itching need to meet the girl who had taken away josh from her grasp. if only for the fact of testing her and making sure she approved the harlow test of josh's potential girlfriends, she was just excited for potentially having a new friend. if only the two would get along, only time would tell.
shifting her weight to the other foot, harlow let out a light sigh, mostly for being in the company with another person. if she had remained by herself, in her car or the house, she would still be crying. time left alone was time to think and regret, not a good combination for harlow. "so, despite being bored, what is there to do in a huge place like this?" she randomly asked, wondering what rooms her eyes had not seen yet and what things were just waiting for her to examine. naturally curious, if josh ever left harlow alone in his house to make herself at home, well, there was a good chance she would find something to get herself in trouble... or get lost.

”This thing feels like it’s meant for little kids,” Nell said as she tugged at the string of a party hat under her chin. A friend who was sitting next to her at the table paused in eating birthday cake and pulled the hat down over her nose. ”Much better,” he claimed, and Nell couldn’t help cracking up, removing the hat and putting the string behind her head in a much more comfortable fashion. Her own plate lay discarded on the table. Well, it was actually her fifth plate, but that was a minor detail. She’d discovered that birthday parties were very dangerous places for someone like her. Too much food. It was quite the effort to resist devouring whatever they had lying out, even when her girl friend’s parents told her that she could eat as much as she wanted. They weren’t aware of the damage she could do. ”Want another piece of cake?” the birthday girl’s little sister asked Nell when she approached the table.
”Now Nelly, don’t attack the poor girl,” her friend said when he noticed the grin that spread across the brunette’s face. ”I’d love another piece of cake!” she exclaimed. The young girl—Nell guessed her age to be around nine—returned with a piece of cake after a minute and Nell would have given her some food in return if it hadn’t seemed odd. She always had the urge to dote on anyone she deemed adorable. ”Are you sure you won’t get sick?”the boy asked, now finished his own piece of cake. Now that is something that would never happen to Nell Doe Shepherd. Okay, there was that little food allergy she had, but as long as the cake didn’t have okra, she’d be good. Because Nell didn’t get sick. Ever. ”It’s only my sixth,” she said, feigning exasperation as she rolled her eyes. It would most likely be her last piece, after all. She may have had several stomach but she knew about health and that she shouldn’t push it.
It was only after leaving the rented out ballroom and biding her friends goodbye that Nell checked her phone and realized Josh had called. It was only a little while ago, so she figured she could drop by and see what he had wanted. Uninformed visits weren’t uncommon, after all. It wasn’t too long of a drive to ‘mansion country’ and when she arrived to Josh’s house, she was still wearing the party hat on her head, with a blowout in her pocket. It would probably end up as a toy for Pablo. She knocke don the door, wondering if it the butler would answer it. She’d tried to converse with him a few times, and yet she still didn’t know his name. In her head, she decided to refer to him as Jenkins. He looked like a Jenkins.

Josh arched an eyebrow when she said that boredom was a blessing, but he didn't feel like it was important enough to ask. Plenty of people used such figures of speech in their words and Joshua wasn't the type to immediately assume that they had a double meaning, so the conversation carried on without him realising that anything important had been said at all. Instead, he chuckled a little when she told him that she'd went to Timmies to meet her brother, and even though he didn't have any problem with letting his friends share the food in his house he was relieved that they at least didn't have to bother making anything. He was in the mood to lounge around aimlessly today, it was nice to take breaks every once and a while. "And how did that go?" he asked, referring to the meet she'd had with Damien of course. He didn't often ask people about their personal lives but once you reached a certain status of friendship with Joshua he started to relax a little on how closed-off and non intrusive he was. Harlow could still refuse to speak about it without much consequence, but the fact that he'd even shown that he cared was something. And he really did care about Harlow and what happened to her. He'd known the girl for too long not to.
A slight smirk played across his lips when Harlow expressed her desire to meet Nell. He had no idea that Harlow had ever liked him as anything more than a friend (and if the feelings had been returned he likely wouldn't have known anyway, with how oblivious he could be) and so he didn't pick up on the fact that this might not be the best of ideas if the two didn't click well enough. "I called her earlier," he said, "but she never picked up. She's probably busy." Otherwise he would have quite literally picked up the phone right now and tried to invite her over. Really, he would prefer that his best friend and his girlfriend were acquainted. He only hoped they got along better than he did with Ace. The very thought of the Water elemental infuriated him, mainly because he was just so overbearing in Josh's opinion that the Fire graduate couldn't stand him. "It's pure bad luck you haven't seen one another yet," he said with mild amusement. "I hang around you both often enough..." He shrugged as if suggesting that it didn't really matter now. It wasn't like keeping them from meeting had been intentional, so he was not bothered by it.
His lips twitched at her question. "There's--" He'd been about to say 'loads to do around here, come on, we can find something' but before he could get the rest of the words out he heard the door go. Frowning in puzzlement and wondering why they hadn't tried the gates or at least the doorbell, Joshua simply looked out one of the windows with a view of the porch and laughed as he said, "Speaking of that girlfriend of mine..." He shot a meaningful look at Harlow and then went over to the door to pull it open. "Hey, Nell," he greeted, giving her a one-armed hug (the other was still holding the door) and a peck on the lips. He didn't want to make things awkward for Harlow, after all. "I've got the house to myself today," he said to explain away the fact that he'd answered the door rather than the butler, "come on in!"
Of course, then it was the time for introductions. He shifted awkwardly for a moment as he wondered how to go about that and then just shrugged. "Unfortunately you're crashing a very important meeting at the moment," he joked to Nell, then smiled and said, "This is Harlow, she's a friend of mine. And well, you know about Nell, Harlow," he chuckled. It was true--he'd surely mentioned his girlfriend before and he'd also mentioned Harlow in conversation to Nell. It wasn't like the girl was his mistress that he was trying to hide from her or anything, they were just long-time best friends and such. Like he'd been with Asha, or Phil. Most of his friends tended to be female (no wonder Patrick got ideas in his head) but Josh didn't really mind. He didn't give it much thought, actually. "As I was saying, there's loads of stuff to do here. It's up to you, really. We can watch movies or play pool, play tennis, or just hang around and talk, I really don't mind either way. We've got an indoor pool and a lake in the backyard as well, but seeing as I don't like to swim..." He wouldn't mind if they did, of course, but that would be rather boring for him, now wouldn't it?

( YOU'RE JUST A CANNIBAL AND I'M AFRAID) I WON'T GET OUT ALIVE harlow thought of the meeting, of how it normally went and how it never changed. it was more or less a visit she insisted on having to keep close to him and he complied, no complaints. it always started with the general ice breakers, before it got into more personal things and before you knew it, you could see the brother and sister love between them. however, when the meeting ended, like it often eventually did, harlow found herself crying, the topic of their parents always arising somehow. she sighed, pushing the thoughts away with a light smile. "it goes how it always goes." she replied, hoping he understood. it was not the first time she had come over after a visit with her brother, and despite a quick introduction, harlow hoped to really introduce the two one day. who knows, perhaps best friends would arise.
as josh began to explain the reasonings behind harlow never meeting the girlfriend, she laughed out of amusement. of course it was simply accident that they had not crossed paths, but it was fun to poke at his buttons at times. as harlow was about to question more, she was cut off by a doorbell and lucky for harlow, josh's girlfriend appearing. remaining where she was, harlow watched as josh answered the door and swore she held her breath as he opened it, just out of the sheer excitement of finally seeing her. watching as he did was boyfriends should, harlow's heart instantly melted, a warm smile covering her face.
with introductions being spoken, harlow released her hand when josh introduced them, waiting for a handshake. "she's a cutie, josh." harlow commented, almost as if nell had not been there in person, but as if she was commenting on a picture. turning her attention to nell, she smiled warmly. "it's nice to finally meet the famous girlfriend. i certainly understand why he gushes over you all the time." she spoke cheerfully, letting out a laugh. she seemed to be the type of girl harlow could get along with, or at least have a possibility for it.
as josh began to answer the question harlow had asked before, she listened, instantly catching onto the last part. sending a light punch to his shoulder playfully, harlow rolled her eyes. "i'm sure you'd just love that." she stated. why josh did not like swimming, harlow had never really questioned, but she often found it to be weird. perhaps an odd water phobia? with josh, it was possible.

As it were, Nell was let in sooner than expected, and by Josh no less. He greeted her with a kiss which she returned with a smile before saying, ”Nice.” Stepping in, Nell quite literally beamed when she saw Harlow, an unfamiliar face to her. ”Should I come back some other time after this meeting?” she joked back to Josh, excited to be introduced to this new person. She probably adored meeting new people as much as she adored children. Josh introduced the two, and if she were anyone else, she’d have been irked that Harlow spoke of her like she wasn’t present, like how adults would speak in front of a child. But she wore a complacent smile, the one usually found on her face. Her cheeks even heated up when being referred to as a ‘cutie’—she still wasn’t used to any kind of compliments.
Forgoing the formal handshake, Nell threw her arms around Harlow and rocked side to side, laughing. ”Pleasure to meet ya!” Pulling back, Nell touched a finger to her chin as if considering. ”Famous? Well, I didn’t know I’d become so reknowned simply for going out with Josh.” She turned and winked at Josh, her entire demeanor cheerful as it ever was. She wondered if Harlow was simply teasing, or if Josh really talked about her to his friends. And if so, what kind of things he said. But Nell wasn’t about to ask her boyfriend, instead she focused on keeping the blush off her face from Harlow’s compliments. ”Since apparently you know a lot about me,” Nell said with a roll of her eyes, ”Tell me about yourself! Age? Hobbies? Favorite food?” Top information for getting to know someone, she should say so herself.
Opting out on any water activities for Josh’s sake and for once in her life actually being full thanks to all the cake she’d consumed, she present an offer that came to mind in a spark of inspiration: ”You have the place to yourself, right?” She asked Josh. ”Have you ever tried mattress sliding?” Her eyes turned mischeviously to the large staircase. Such an acitivity was exhilerating on a regular staircase and she found herself often wanting to do it at her father’s house. As long as they didn’t damage the mattresses, it surely wouldn’t be something entirely reckless or stupid.

Joshua gave a sympathetic but quiet nod in response to Harlow's words. He had been friends with Harlow for years and had never met this brother of hers, but had good opinion of him simply because Harlow loved him and they were twins, that went without saying. However, that didn't mean his opinion couldn't change. If he met Damien and ended up hating him... well, he'd try to keep it out of Harlow's knowledge, at least. Just like he tried his best to hide his resentment toward Ace from Nell. Friends didn't need to be involved in your drama with their other friends--or, in this case, siblings. But then the door went and Joshua was, understandably, distracted. He raised an eyebrow for a moment when Harlow pronounced Nell as a 'cutie', acknowledging in his expression that his friend was acting as if the girl wasn't standing right there. However, he didn't say this. He was a guy of few words sometimes and though he was often blunt, he figured that this wasn't something that needed to be vocalised. Instead, he smirked a little and said, "I could think of a few choice words." He seemed humoured by his internal dialogue, which was now listing off words he could or could not have used to describe his girlfriend. Some were innocent, others not so innocent--it was hard to conceal the desire to laugh when flexible came into play, but he managed.
Scoffing lightly and playfully when Harlow addressed Nell, Josh sounded affronted as he said, "Excuse me, I do not gush." His tone was not angry, however, and so it was clear he was not to be taken seriously. It was nice to stand here in the presence of two of the people closest to him. Joshua didn't have a wide network of people he could trust and even though he'd never confided in Harlow as he had in Nell, he did feel like he could trust her. He just wasn't going to take advantage of that trust yet. It would seem a little random to dump his past woes and problems with the gang onto her shoulders without warning, even though he was sure she'd wondered what had happened when a smattering of new scars appeared on his skin back in the wintery months that year. He'd never given her any sort of explanation, and Nell probably wouldn't have found out so soon herself if she hadn't been there. It was not a mark of mistrust, but of his private personality. "Oh, yes," Josh said dramatically, changing his posture to something much more self-satisfied and smug. "I'm famous myself, you know. Particularly amongst the Fire elementals, they just adore me." Rolling his eyes, his lips twitched as he swatted Harlow back. "Love it," he repeated sarcastically. "In so many words."
Nell did know about his hydrophobia, though he'd never told Harlow a word of it and had given no implications that he had one. He simply continued to insist that he didn't like swimming, that he'd never enjoyed it. As a Fire elemental that craved light and warm, could this really be considered surprising? He counted on his element to explain it for him. Nevertheless, he shot Nell a pointed look when he knew Harlow was not watching, hoping she'd pick up on the fact that his best friend was unaware. At the girl's suggestion, however, his eyes widened. "Mattress sliding?" Now, he didn't know exactly what this was, but he could hazard a guess as he followed her gaze to the curved staircases that led down into the foyer. There were other stairways in the house, of course--several of them, not all of them curved, and some visible from the foyer as they led the way to the third floor from the second. Still, it didn't seem particularly safe. It seemed the sort of thing Joshua would be convinced to do when he was drunk and thus never a wise idea sober. "That sounds quite... reckless." Not only that, but there was the fact that his parents would be home eventually. "Not to mention the amount of priceless things we could, however accidentally, break..." The fact that Nell wanted to do it compelled him to relent, but he was still a very cautious person. He'd need convincing, of course.

( YOU'RE JUST A CANNIBAL AND I'M AFRAID) I WON'T GET OUT ALIVE with questions flying at harlow, one by one, she was uncertain on whether to laugh at nell's curiosity, or be afraid by the mounds of them. with a warm smile, she started slowly. "well, i'm nineteen, residing with the wind element, of course!" harlow first stated, more proud of her element than anything. as much as she had disagreed with it in the academy, college had done wonders for her relationship with her element. "lets see, i do creative writing and am a bit of a perfectionist." though that was no surprise. even one of harlow's purses were unbelievably clean, everything having its proper place in the purse world. "besides that, i have a twin brother?" she offered as a final answer, glancing quickly at josh as she stated the fact.
she felt guilty, despite knowing that even though josh and her were considered best friends, there was still lots they did not know about each other. like, josh did not know about harlow's love of rubber duckies, or the reason behind why she detested holidays so much. then again, harlow did not know about the scars on josh, or about a lot of things. in fact, it could be debated that besides the basics, josh and harlow really were a sad example of best friends. however, harlow had a way of basing her friendship not on how much she knew about the person, but on what they did. harlow could know a person to a t, but no one had done what josh had done for harlow when her parents had passed away. in other words, as distant as josh and harlow really were when it came to secrets, there was other things that brought them so much closer... besides a previous crush.
however, all thoughts on their friendship scattered when nell mentioned mattress sliding. her face brightened drastically and sent a roll of the eyes toward josh. "worry wart." she said, amused. glancing at nell, she nearly jumped up and down with excitement. "princess diaries!" harlow yelled and realized it might lead to confusion, though she suspected nell knew what she meant. josh however? harlow doubted. "ever since i watched mattress sliding in princess diaries, i've been dying to try it!" she exclaimed, this time adding a little jump and a laugh. it was amazing how quickly harlow turned into a little child, but who could blame here. smiling at nell, she quickly turned to josh. "please josh! we have to try it. we would not be living life if we didn't!" harlow over exaggerated, but decided with the circumstance that it was needed. josh could be as hard as a doornail sometimes, and if begging would allow the two girls to mattress slide, then so be it.
THIS IS TAGGED FOR mister josh + miss nell. THIS POST IS CURRENTLY reserved. THE WORD COUNT IS four six zero. HARL IS WEARING crimson red + mini car. THE CREDITS ARE template made by me. I JUST HAVE TO SAY oh goodness, here comes harlow ganging up with nell. be afraid josh!

Nell looked over at Josh with a lifted eyebrow. ”I hope they’re good words,” she joked before looking back to Harlow, ready to absorb any information the girl was going to tell her. She nodded enthusiastically as the Wind elemental told her hobbies. A perfectionist? Well, Nell could see why she and Josh got along. Her boyfriend had his OCD tendencies, maybe the bonded over the fact that nothing should be on the floors save for tiles or carpet. ”You’re a twin?” the Earth girl asked, eyes bright. ”Identical or fraternal?” It was probably a question that Harlow got a lot. Or maybe not, Nell didn’t really know what people asked about twins. She knew she’d asked Noly about Taze, though.
She laughed and shook her head at what Josh said about the Fire elementals. She knew that there would never be a warm and happy relationship between he and his element, really, but Nell always did wonder how bad he really had it. Meanwhile, Nell simply avoided the subject of swimming or anything. It was a shame that Josh didn’t like it because she actually did, but there were many more differences between them that hadn’t set them apart. So she was just fine with him being hydrophobic. It wasn’t like she didn’t have her own phobias, after all, and he knew about her claustrophobia.
Even though Josh seemed opposed, Harlow was all for. It made Nell feel a bit torn, really. ”It’s completely safe, I’ve never had any casualties. Just don’t do any flips and try to be cool.” She’d done it at sleepovers before on much smaller staircases. Harlow mentioned The Princess Diaries, and Nell cracked up. ”Oh my god, yes. I can’t believe you’ve never done it before!” It was actually strange for Nell, considering she was usually the one who had the most inexperience in any situation. It gave her a little boost in her pride. ”We can move any breakables out of the way, and make barracades with blankets.” You couldn’t really predict how far you could slide, especially on these floors. But with a soft smile, Nell added, ”We don’t have to if you don’t want, Josh. We wouldn’t want to wreck anything here.” So let’s head over to my father’s house. The thought almost made her laugh.

Joshua continued smirking when Nell spoke, arching an eyebrow as if to say, 'And if they're not?' He was only joking around with her, of course. It came as a shock to his new friends that he had such a sense of humour, even more that it extended into sexual territory at times, but as Harlow and Nell had known him for a while he figured they wouldn't be too shocked. Besides, troll though he was he was only half joking. It wasn't like he didn't think... certain things about his girlfriend, he just wouldn't be so crude as to announce them aloud to Harlow. Though they were best friends he did not want to make Nell uncomfortable or anything. So he resorted for this playful teasing and his features eventually relaxed into a light sort of smile. "Not all of them are bad," he promised, winking at her. And that was true, at least. It wasn't like he went around talking about how beautiful his girlfriend was but that didn't mean he didn't think it. He just kept such things to himself most of the time. It didn't count for as much if he said it every time he thought it, else he'd be trailing after her and talking about how attractive he actually found her and that would be lame. No one did that.
He fell silent as they talked amongst themselves, watching the patterns that the sunlight threw across the tiled floor of the foyer. He looked sceptically up at the staircases as Harlow started to beg him, a subtle frown playing across his lips. He really wasn't sure whether or not he was up for it and his indecisive attitude was not helped, at first, by Nell. He could tell that it was something she really wanted to do but it just wasn't in Joshua's nature to destroy the house his parents lived in just because they weren't home. We wouldn't be destroying anything, he told himself steadily, trying to see it from the girls' point of view. However, Josh was just a generally stubborn guy. It was hard to budge him from his decisions. "I don't know..." he mumbled, shaking his head. He would have been fine if it was anyone else's house they were messing around in but the fact that it belonged to his parents made him hesitate. This house would be his one day, he knew, but it was not now and he'd always been told to respect the property of others even if they were not home.
Hesitantly, and with an almost guilty glance at Harlow, he asked them both, "Is there... anything else you'd want to do?" Joshua could be a very confident and assertive person when he'd made a decision, but he did feel guilty about the fact they were so excited. However, he also didn't want to give the impression that he could easily be manipulated or coerced into doing something he didn't want to do. So, blinking, he said, "I just don't want to get into any trouble with my parents and even if we didn't mean to disrupt anything, I doubt my mother would care." He knew Patricia best, after all, having grown up in this house as her son. She'd whacked him across the side of the head with a spoon once when he'd slid down the banisters of the curved stairs--not hard enough to cause damage, but enough to hurt and express her displeasure. If they broke anything... oh, he cringed to think of her reaction. He was 6'3" to her 5'7" and could easily overpower her, but it was his Mum. He wouldn't lift a finger to her, so she would automatically have the upper hand.
