Too hot. It was far too hot in the crowded club for the blonde's liking. Sure, she knew she shouldn't even be there in the first place, but she needed some fun, and Corrosion was the perfect place to go for that. Of course, maybe not for a girl with sporadic bipolar disorder. She tried to shrug it off though, as she wove her way out of the tangle of dancers on the floor. She found a lone table at the back, and took it gratefully, sitting against the wall so she could still see others around her. The lights were going crazy, but she was able to notice one thing. A tall male was standing in the crowd, just watching her. A cold chill ran up her spine, and she looked away. When she looked up a moment later, he was gone. It was enough to creep her out. She'd read stories like this. Lone girls in a bar or a club, a creepy predator staking them out, following their every move, until finally the girl ends up dead, or worse, somewhere that no one can find them.
She took a deep breath then sipped at the pepsi she'd brought to the table with her. She scanned the room again, no sight of the creepy guy from earlier. There were a few drunks around, and it was starting to make her claustrophobic, but she shook it off. At this time, she couldn't risk leaving, if someone from the school saw her here, they would most likely turn her in, or just kick the crap out of her. She shook her head and took another sip before she put the cap on her soda, stuffing it into her back pocket. She joined the group on the dance floor once again, moving in time with the music.
It was only a few minutes until she felt hands on her waist, she whipped around, glaring straight into the face of Creepy Guy. She stepped back, slapping his hands off of her. "Look. I don't know who you think you are, but you need to back your shit up. The whole touchy feely thing? Yeah, don't do that. Just keep your distance, creep." She shook her head and stormed back to her table, leaving a very angry Creepy Guy on the dance floor. She shook her head and pulled her soda back out of her pocket. She took a sip and looked around. Now she was kind of hoping that someone from school would show up, someone that she actually liked. She felt like she needed a bodyguard at the moment, with Creepy Guy still staring at her.

WHEN YOU'RE OUT AT THE CLUB and you see a fly girl DO THE CREEP ! Entering the bar, Nell smiled. She forgot how much of a shit place it was, but for some reason she looked back on it fondly. Was it because she’d met Josh here? No, because that wasn’t a very happy memory. She guessed it was because this was the first place she worked at upon coming to Canada, and even though it was scummy, it was where she started off. She’d come alone tonight, because she had one thing in mind. Her old barmate was working tonight, Danny, and she felt like she should talk to him again. Nell considered him to be a sort-of friend, even though he was quite a bit older than her. Either way, she liked to keep in touch with those she considered friends, even when she got a new job. He was facing the other way when she sat at the bar, shades on her eyes. They were for comedic purposes—The Lonely Island had inspired her for such.
Nell rapped the bar with her knuckles. ”Who do I have to love on to get a drink around here?” she called, thickening her New York accent. Danny showed no signs of being shocked before he turned from his business and looked her up and down. ”Oh look, Shepherd came crawling back,” he said. His tone was dry, but there was still humor in it, something she’d only become aware of after working with him for a bit. ”I missed this place so much, I just couldn’t help myself,” she quipped. ”So where’s my ginger ale, amigo?” He grunted, and shook his head. ”You were a barmaid, and now you’re ordering a ginger ale.” She pressed a finger to her lips—it wasn’t like he was oblivious to the fact that she was underage. People just didn’t care here. He got her the glass, and as she drank, she was surprised that he made covnersation. ”I heard you moved on up to Blackjack.” Nodding as she swallowed her soda down, she said, ”It’s real nice. Good pay too.” She didn’t know how she felt about others knowing her personal life—she was a secretive person. But she supposed this was all right, especially since Danny even seemed a little proud of her.
After she finished off the soda, she was surprised when he filled a shot glass. ”Jagerbomb?” she questioned. Her favorite in terms of hard liquor was vodka, but that was dangerous. Nell held her liquor well, but she still avoided drinknig as much as possible. ”On the house. You should celebrate.” She raised the glass in a toast to him, and then slung it back, wincing a bit as the drink burned through her throat. Still, jager probably came after vodka. Usually, she was pretty straight edge, but he was right—she should celebrate. With a glass of straight jager, the Earth girl made her way out. Speaking of celebrating, she looked over to the crowd on the dancefloor. Sweaty and hot, certainly, but she was wearing heels and a shimmering tank top so it wasn’t like she’d be concerned about heat. And Nell was a social person. She’d come alone, but she was confident enough to go out and dance with complete strangers. Well, she thought they were all complete strangers. But she noticed a familiar blond in the mass of bodies, and was about to make her way over when she noticed an unfamiliar guy take her by the waist. Did she have a boyfriend or something? She didn’t really like the looks of that guy, and she was glad to hear Noly tell him off.
Whoever the creep was, he didn’t look to happy at being snubbed, and so Nell moved through the crowd, holding her glass above her head to prevent spillage. Upon reaching the girl, she wrapped an arm around her waist and said rather loudly, ”Hey, girl, hey.” Nell’s body was pressed against her friend’s. ”Did you miss me, baby?” How protective was she of her friends? She would pretend to be a lesbian for them. Of course, she may just seem like a really close friend, so she gave Noly a quick and chaste peck on the lips to emphasize to creepy guy that she belonged to her. ”I just went to get a drink.” She shook her glass for emphasis, but the ice cubes sloshing against the side couldn’t be heard over the music. Nell hoped that he would go away soon, so she didn’t make Noly too uncomfortable with the charade. The Earth girl’s orientation was not in question, however—she had a boyfriend, one that she loved very much.

Noly was shaking a little bit, the soda in her bottle shaking as she did, until she felt a slender arm wrap around her waist. She didn't even have time to think before lips met hers and her eyes went wide. She turned her head to Nell, blinking a bit. "There you are! I thought you'd never come back. The dance floor was so lonely without you." She gave a fake pout and wrapped her arms around her friend, careful not to spill her drink. She nodded her head towards the table near by and led the girl over there. She sat down, taking Nell's free hand to keep up the appearances. "Thank fricken jesus you're here, Nelly. Major creeper alert. I was tempted to go get Danny if he tried anything else. But seriously. You're my hero."
She set her bottle on the table, wishing she had grabbed something stronger instead of just caffeine. She shook her head a bit before she looked up. Creepy Guy was gone, for now. And she really hoped he didn't come back. She didn't feel like wasting the mace she had in her purse, or letting Nelly's knuckles get all bruised up on her account. "Hey Nelly. You know...You're pretty bad ass. I was wondering...Do you think you can teach me how to defend myself? I mean..In every fight I've ever been in, you've bailed me out..." She shrugged, shaking her head a bit. She didn't even know what she was saying. She couldn't hurt anyone. It just wasn't in her nature. She sighed a bit, looking around at the dance floor. So many couples were there, and Noly couldn't help but feel a bit depressed. "That's it. I'm officially putting you on matchmaker duty, Nell. Find me a damn boyfriend!" She huffed out the last words, hitting her head against the table. "Now now, what's the reason for hurting that pretty little head?" Noly's head snapped up and she was, once again, face to face with Creepy Guy. She reached over, grabbing Nell's leg roughly, while trying to catch Danny's eye from across the club. If anyone was gonna get Creeper off of her case, it was Danny.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHEN YOU'RE OUT AT THE CLUB and you see a fly girl DO THE CREEP ! Nell followed her friend back over to the table after asking Mr. Creep. ”Unfortunately, he’s a bit busy tonight. Only had a little time for small talk with me.” Nell peered over the crowd at him and saw that he was serving patrons. She looked back to Noly and worry entered her features. ”You okay? The ass—jerk didn’t hurt you or anything?” Jeez, there were some real scum bags around here. ”Sorry for getting a little zealous, there,” she said, smiling wrly. ”Just wanted the cochino to buzz off.” Noly didn’t need to understand Spanish to know that the word was derogatory—the language had become like a censor for her now. She smiled at Noly and shook her head as if she were getting all pompous. ”Cape and all,” she bragged, twirling the straw in her glass around her finger. All she wanted to do was see her best girl safe, even fi that meant getting a little zealous with their relationship.
She noticed the girl placing a Coke bottle on the table, and thought it rather comical. ”No alcohol tonight?” she said humorously, since it was ironic that Noly was the harder drinker and Nell was the one drinking tonight. And as Nell sipped from her drink, she practically took a spit-take. Bad ass? ”Pfff, I’m flattered,” she said, wiping at her mouth. ”But I’m not really good at self-defense.” She didn’t fight back when people hurt her, but she didn’t sit by when her friends were being hurt. Noly knew that first hand. ”You just need to come up with underhanded ways. Trickery, you know. Think of the bullfighters in Spain—they dance with death every day.” Of course she had to relate it back to something Spanish, but it was true. They toyed with the testosterone-charged bulls with their capes, and eventually the bull had to die.
Nell was a bit surprised to hear Noly’s exclamation, and she blinked at the people dancing. ”Matchmaker, hmm?” She sipped from the thin straw, and then drawed away. ”Corrosion isn’t really the place to meet the love of your life,” she said airily. ”But I’ll try.” She was being a bit hypocritical though—she’d met Josh here, even though they were far from in love then. No, they were the opposite. But there were a lot of scum bags here. And speaking of scum… Nell narrowed her eyes. She really didn’t like it when jerks like this fucked with her friends, especially Noly. ”She saw your ugly mug coming by and wanted to shield her eyes,” she responded coolly before she looked over at Danny, who wasn’t paying attention. But she wasn’t going to leave her fake-girlfriend here with this douchebag. Well shit.

Canada. What was so great about Canada? Whatever it was Oliver hadn’t found it yet. It was a hot night and the fire student had nothing better to do than walk around downtown. If he was back home he would probably be out at a movie with friends or practicing pitching with his dad. Maybe even just sitting at home playing with his sister, but he wasn’t at home anymore. The little town he came from in Arkansas wasn’t very big, yet it had more to do than he had found here. Finally he came upon a club, Corrosion, that seemed like an okay place to hang. He wasn’t really a drinker but he had snuck into the club in his hometown a couple times just to go hang out and dance. Yeah, the holey jean and plain black t-shirt wearing elemental likes to dance. Especially if there’s a pretty girl around. He walked through the door of the bar and stopped to look around. Since he was still new to the area he didn’t really know anyone. Sure he had seen some kids roaming around the school, but he didn’t see any of them here. He pushed his way through the sweaty, smelly crowd and made it to the bar. “Hey man, let me get a Coke please.” The barkeep turned and gave him a puzzled look, but handed him a bottled Coke anyways. “You know you’re in a bar, right?” Oli laughed as he took the bottle. “Yeah but I’m not the drinking type, I just like to dance.” He said and thanked the guy. Oliver looked over the crowd to find a potential dance partner. He saw a pretty little blonde girl he thought he’d seen at school and started to go talk to her. Some tall guy walked over to her before Oli had a chance to get to her so he just stopped. He was surprised when she rejected the guy, and even more surprised when another girl from the school came up and kissed her. “Whoa, that’s not something you see back home,” he mumbled to himself. The girls walked over to a table and sat down. It wasn’t very long before the tall guy walked back over to them. Something didn’t seem right about that guy and it struck a nerve in Oliver. He had seen what creeps can do to girls back home with his friend Chainey. She had tried to kill herself over the shit a guy did to her. Even though he didn’t know them he felt the need to stop the guy from messing with them. ”She saw your ugly mug coming by and wanted to shield her eyes,” Oliver couldn’t help but laugh as he walked up as one of the second girl said that to the tall guy. “Man if I were you I’d leave them alone, they are playing for the other team and honestly I think this girl here could take you. Trust me I’ve known her for years,” he said as he winked at her and put his hand on her shoulder, hoping she’d play along. Yeah Oliver could have just jumped in and punched the guy in the face, but he was going to ignore his violent side…for now at least.
((I love the way Nell and Noly treat the Creeper. >.< My sister used to work in a bar and pulled the lesbian stunt with a friend of hers several times to fend off the drunken crazies.))

Noly simply kept quiet for a while, awaiting the reply her friend was about to give. Of course, she already knew the answer. Nell never really fought, she just pissed the people off to the point where they left by themselves, without any other physical violence. The blonde sighed a bit and nodded. "Yeah, I understand. Don't worry. I guess I can come up with a few of my own tricks." She gave a little shrug before she tensed up. Creeper had shown up, and was talking to her, and she knew damn well that he was looking at her too. She also knew that trying to get Danny's attention was pointless. He was far too busy to deal with any drama at the moment. She just hoped that Nell could scare this guy off before something really bad happened.
Of course, Noly had to hold her laughter when Nell told the guy off, but to her dismay, he wasn't leaving. "Hey now. No need to be cruel. I was just trying to be friendly. My name's Dante, and I would very much like to dance with you." Noly didn't like the tone of his voice at all, and she wished he would just get the hint. She was just about to open her mouth and tell him off again, when a new voice entered the fray, yet another male one, though this voice, she knew. She turned her head only slightly, right before a hand was placed on her shoulder. Shit. She had to play along. Um...Um..What was this kids name again...? She's couldn't think. Fuck! Oh yeah!
"Oh, Oli, it's alright. I think Dante here was just leaving. Pookie and I really need some alone time." She put on her best flirty face and leaned more into Nell. She then turned around, giving Oliver a wink. "And maybe we can keep Oli-Pop too. But you know what they day, three's a crowed." She shot a glare to Creepy Guy before she turned back to Nell, giving her a big old smooch on the lips. The entire time, she was trying not to laugh. This would be a wonderful story to tell Josh.
Needless to say, Dante did not look at all pleased. He actually looked a bit frightened, had ever since Oliver walked up. He said nothing more, simply glared and stormed away, and as soon as he was out of sight, she jumped up in her chair and hugged the fire boy. She pulled away as quickly as she'd jumped up, though. "Thanks. We were in a little bit of a bind. I guess you had that intimidation factor we greatly lack..." She sat back down in her chair and grabbed Nell's drink, downing it. She then gave a sheepish smile to her biffle and giggled nervously. "Sorry. Shot nerves. Needed that."

WHEN YOU'RE OUT AT THE CLUB and you see a fly girl DO THE CREEP ! Eyes cool and assessing the interloper to the two girl’s conversation, Nell felt the protection like a physical entity bubbling up. She wondered how he would enjoy jager in his face? Don’t be like that, Nell. But seriously, this dude just gave her the chills, and she sure Noly felt the same. She swore, if he laid a hand on her shit would get real. Well, as real as it could get with pacifistic Nell. Remember the bull-fighters. Trickery and manipulation could get a girl places, but then again, that was her aunt’s style and she’d rather not become like the woman.
She was about to spurt off another retort to try and shake him when another guy came over, laughing at what she’d said before. Nell thanked whatever God there may be that he was helping them out, and she wondered just how much truth was in that statement. Did those two know each other? Noly knew his name, so she was reassured that this guy was safe and wrapped an arm around Noly’s waist, in case she had to drag her out in a last-ditch effort. ”Oh, Oli is just fine company,” Nell said breezily, adding a laugh. Yes, much better than the creepy fuck hitting on her ‘girlfriend’. ”But we can only handle so much testosterone, see?” She directed this at the creep, her eyes not revealing just how much she was itching to get him to go away and besides, she wasn’t focused on him when Noly kissed her. It was easy to play when you were confident in your sexuality. Wait, is this cheating? She was kissing another girl, but what Dante didn’t know was that it was chaste and that she only cared for Noly as a close friend.
Oliver’s presence did well to put off the creeper, though, for which she was very thankful. When he walked off, Nell was able to relax a little from her forced easy-going posture. Anyone bothering her friends ruffled her feathers. She smiled when Noly hugged the new arrival, and Nell was just raising her glass in a silent sort of greeting when the girl took it and gulped it down. Oh, Nono. She waved her hand, ”It’s all right. I can get both of us something, once the mass of bodies clears up. And something for Oli, too, for being so chivalrous.” Nell would rather not try and push through the sweaty mob in front of the bar. For now, she turned her attention to Oliver, and shifted her finger between her two companions, saying, ”You know each other?” And then realizing that she knew his name—was Oli and ‘Oli-pop’ short for something—she jolted a bit and stood to hold out her hand. ”I’m Nell. Not Noly’s girlfriend for the record, but she is a catch I have to say. Great kisser, too.” She winked at the girl when she joked.. ”Really, thanks for the help. Even though it pains me to play the damsel in distress to your knight in shining armor.” She was still joking, though it was a tad embarrassing for her whenever she needed assistance. But when it came to Noly, she would have taken whatever she’d gotten.

Oliver stood his ground next to Noly and gave Dante a stern look as the girls played like they knew him. He thought they were doing a good job but the creep seemed like he didn’t really believe their story even when they kissed. Finally the creep left but Oli had a feeling that that wasn’t going to be the last of him. He wasn’t about to tell the girls that though. Oliver was pulled out of his thoughts as the water girl jumped up and hugged him. She let go as quick as she had got up. He looked at her and laughed. “Oli-pop? That was great. You should be an actress,” he took a drink of his Coke , “and you’re welcome. I can’t stand seeing the way some guys act towards girls. You’d think their mamas would have taught them better.” His slight southern accent hung in the air as he looked at the two girls. He knew he didn’t need to be hanging around them, he should've just said you're welcome and left but he didn’t see any harm in just a bit of mingling. They were the only human interaction he had had since coming to Canada. He laughed when Noly downed her girlfriend’s drink. “Don’t worry about me, I’m not a drinker,” he said to the earth girl with a smile when she offered to get him something. It kind of threw Oli off when she asked if he and Noly knew each other. “To be honest, no, I’ve never met her in my life. I've seen her around school and barely know her name. I was actually surprised that she knew mine, but I wasn’t just going to stand there and watch that weirdo mess with y’all.” He shook her hand when she held it out and let out a sigh in his head when she said that they weren’t really girlfriends. That made him laugh. He thought it was great that a friend would act like that to protect someone they loved. He liked Nell already, even if she was an earth student.
“A great kisser, huh? That’s good to know,” he winked at Noly then added, “I’m just kiddin’. I’m not like Mr. Freak.” Turning his head just a tad, he could see Dante sitting at the bar, still staring at them. Well more like him. Oli knew that guy was trouble. He looked back to the girls and gave them a chivalrous bow as Nell thanked him. “It was my pleasure madam. If there is ever a damsel in need Sir Oli-Pop will be there indeed,” he said with a horrible fake British accent. He had a feeling that these two girls would end up making life interesting for him.

Noly was so close to cracking up. Nell was playing the damsel in distress well, and Oliver was fitting for the knight in shining armor position. Of course, the girl cheered when Nell said she was getting more drinks. Now she was in more of a party mood, which was good, but, she was also a bit wary of the male. She was known to do stupid things when she was drunk, and she didn't want to make a complete and total fool of herself in front of this boy, who she hadn't even officially met yet.
Noly nodded and shrugged her shoulders as Oliver gave his explination. "Actually, I'm surprised that I even remembered your name. I was worried that I'd mess things up." She shrugged once more before turning so she could face both of the people. Of course, Nell had to go on about the kissing thing, which made the blonde blush slightly. The worse part was, Oliver winked at her. That caused her blush to deepen, and she turned away from them again, waiting for the blush to fade. Those two seemed to be getting along fine, which was actually kind of great. Not many people had gotten along with Nell in the past...So she was glad to see her friend having some fun.
"Oh. I feel rude now. She turned back to the male with a smile, her blush now gone. "This lovely lady right here is Nell Sheperd, best friend extrordinaire. And I'm Hannoly DeVrois, Noly for short. And I'm sorry to say that I only know the Oliver part of your name..." She gave a nervous smile before she turned to finish her soda. Hopefully, Nell would keep up her promise and get her something real to drink.

WHEN YOU'RE OUT AT THE CLUB and you see a fly girl DO THE CREEP ! Nell smiled at the two. ”Worked out perfectly,” she complimented their acting skills. Really, it was just a wonderful charade she wished the entire club had gathered round to applaud them. But no, the creep just disappeared into the mass of people and good riddens. She really hoped Noly wouldn’t have to deal with him again. ”Such is life,” the Earth girl said easily to Oliver’s words. People out there could be pretty bad, maybe because they didn’t have ‘mamas’ to raise them better.
Leaving momentarily to get a drink, she came back moments later and slid a glass over to Noly and listened to Oliver’s response. ”School?” Nell inquired. ”So you go to the Academy? I’ve never seen you around, so I don’t know what element you’re in.” She kept her voice low enough that others around her wouldn’t hear, but loud enough that her two companions would. Nell almost felt like she shouldn’t introduce herself—it wasn’t like people didn’t know her name, thanks to the war when it was synonomous with ‘murderer’. The grin that fixed itself to her face was reminescent of the cheshire cat as she lifted her eyebrows while blinking slowly at Noly. Don’t pinch her cheeks, you know she hates that.
Nell laughed as Noly went about introuductions. ”Here I thought I’d have to go around calling him Oli-pop.” But no, that was Noly’s thing—she may have had some childness in her, but she tried not to bastardize the names of people who didn’t like it. ”So it’s Oliver?” Continuing the pleasant conversation, Nell asked, ”Are you from the states? You have a pretty thick accent. Southern, right?” She was from New York, but even minor information like that wasn’t spilled without someone asking her. And even then sometimes it wasn’t met with a straight answer.

Oliver laughed at Noly and Nell. The duo were quite fun to be around. “I was waitin’ for you to throw out some fake name that I was going to have to pretend to be,” he said to Noly when she said she was surprised she remembered his name. “Even if you did mess things up though I was still going to make sure he left y’all alone.” It was true. He was going to try the civil way first and if that didn’t work then, well, things wouldn’t have gone so great for Dante. “And thank you,” he said to Nell as she complimented their little charade, “I had the leading role in my third grade class’ production of ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas.’ They loved me,” he said with a sarcastic tone. A big grin spread across Oliver’s face when Noly turned away from them blushing after he winked at her. He thought it was the cutest thing ever.
“I’m a fire student,” he added warily. He hoped that they wouldn’t turn him away for being in an opposing alliance. But there was something about them that made him believe they weren’t like that. “The name's Oliver Logan McKaye. Y’all can call me Oliver, Oli, Oli-Pop or whatever,” he said taking another sip from his Coke bottle. “Yeahh I’m a new student this year. Which sucks ass, starting your twelth grade year in another country with powers of a tenth grader ain’t much my idea of fun.” He pulled a chair over from another table and turned it backwards, resting his chin on the back of it.
He laughed when Nell said something about his accent. “Yes ma’am I’m proud to be an American. Born and bred in the great state of Arkansas.” He wasn’t too sure where she was from but he could tell it wasn’t the south. It was easy to spot other southerners, most of the time their accent gave it away. He had learned over the years that even different parts of the south had different accents though. Like a guy he met from south Louisiana at a baseball tournament. His Cajun accent made it hard to understand a word he said. Oliver’s favorite thing to hear the boy say was ‘right there.’ It came out sounding more like one run-together word ‘whydere.’ The worst part was that those accents are contagious. Spend five minutes with a Cajun and you could catch yourself talking like them.

She gave a slight shrug. "Well, I figured that I would have to use my amazing memory so i didn't end up in a pickle. I didn't want to say a random name and have you look at me like I was on crack or something."
Of course, she figured she could have used a better analogy, but that was not really who she was. She was creepy, crazy, and weird, so she acted as such whenever she possibly could. "I didn't know if you were going to play along or not." She ended her statement there. She had a tendency to ramble, so she figured she would stop while she was ahead, before Oliver, and even Nell, ran away in fear of her crazy. Of course, Noly could not help but notice the grin that came across her face. Oh dear Gods. I'm making a bloody fool out of myself... She tried to ignore it, though, she did not want to be the bumbling blushing idiot at a bar after getting saved by some random kid that could torture her every day at school for it. When he mentioned that he was a fire student, she had not even thought of that. She had no classes with him, so she had no idea. She just hoped that he was not one of the fire boys that had tortured her last week. Though, so far, she had the feeling that he was far from that type of boy. Someone who shows up to help a stranger would not be the type of guy to just randomly attack people. To prevent further embarassment, she lifted her glass, taking small sips to savor it. She knew for a fact that she wanted to forget Creepy Guy, but the Medic had said that alcohol might worsen the concussion she had accquired earlier in the week. Giving thought to that, she set the drink down and slid it aside. She knew Nell would give her a look, so she gave her explination early. "Forgot, doctors orders. Don't want my little head injury to get any worse. You should know how bad it was at first, you were there." She finished her statement with a shrug before casting a glance over to Oliver. She had to say, he was quite the looker. But he was fire, and she was Water. It wasn't a logical mix. Sure, Nell and Josh were sort of accepted, but she had no clue if the school accept another inter-elemental relationship. Ugh. Her mind was working too hard. So she simply sat in silence, still trying not to act like an idiot.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHEN YOU'RE OUT AT THE CLUB and you see a fly girl DO THE CREEP ! Nell laughed at Noly saying that if she invented a name for Noly, he may have looked at her like she was on crack, and it became intense enough that she cupped a hand over her mouth not to be disruptive. ”I’m sorry,” she said a bit quietly. She started laughing again when Oliver mentioned a prior role in Charlie Brown. ”Charlie Brown?” she asked as if completely astounded. Then she leaned back and grinned. ”Didn’t know I was talking to a big shot.” Now that imminent danger had passed, she could easily laugh and chat. She didn’t even mind Noly’s rambling—of coruse she didn’t, nothing truly bothered her. It was a rather difficult thing to accomplish, but it was easy enough if you were related to her.
When Oli stated that he was a Fire elemental, she decided to keep talking to him. She didn’t want to be wary. She didn’t want to be unfriendly, because that’s not who she was. She just…didn’t know about Fire students, since she had trouble with them before. Nell tried not to think about how hypocritical it was with her dating Josh, but that was different. She perked up upon finding about his situation, though. She sat back down as he did, crossing her legs like a lady. ”I’m a late enroller, too. A twelfth grader. I wonder if we have any classes together, I haven’t really noticed.” She pressed a finger to her chin as she shook her head, trying to think. Nell wasn’t about to elaborate on the reason she was a late enroller, and she wasn’t going to ask Oliver, either. If she had a problem with something like that, she couldn’t be sure about other people. ”I’m sure it’ll get better for you.” It did for her, after all. She was a lot more skilled than she was in the beginning just coming to the Academy.
Nell smiled again, noticing that Noly seemed a bit…off. Well, she was always a bit off, but in a different way. ”Born and raised New York,” she said, lifting up her glass. ”America is a wonderful place.” Even her grandparents thought so, emmigrating from Spain. She was slightly more comfortable admitting that, because it was a connection to someone else. But she didn’t want to say more. It was amazing how secretive and pleasant she could be at the same time. Nell heard the sliding of the glass, and turned an inquiring look to her Water friend. ”Still bothering you?” she asked, worry still apparent in her tone. That was a while ago actually. Knowing that Oli was in the dark, she explained, ”Noly got messed around with in the war. Had to go to the medical wing for a concussion.” Her voice took on a rather hard edge—she wasn’t mad at Noly or anything, just at the people who thought they could fuck with her friend.
