The sky outside was miserable, and it came as no surprise to Joshua when a loud thunderclap was followed by a sudden and violent downpouring of rain. The water students in his class seemed unphased, but Joshua groaned as he realised what this meant--he'd need to head home in that. He was still under technical 'house arrest' by his parents because of the actual arrest that had landed he and Nell in jail for a couple of hours whilst they sorted everything out. Why can't they just forgive me for that and get it over with? But they wouldn't, not that quickly, he wasn't stupid. What was perhaps even worse than the scolding of his parents, however, was the loss of his car. It was under his name and thus it could practically be considered stealing the way that Donovan was keeping it from him, but it wasn't like Josh was going to complain about his parents to the police. They also didn't really have legal rights to lock him in his room ever since he'd snuck out with Nell to go to the cafe--he was nineteen, for Christ's sakes, not nine--but he didn't put an end to that either. Besides, Donovan made it quite clear to his son that he either followed the rules or found his own place to live. As demeaning as it was to feel like a scolded child again, Josh could remember the hell that was apartment living and wasn't really sure he wanted to abandon the comfort and safety of the mansion for another shoddy place like that. They'll forgive me soon, I hope. And that was all he could do in this situation: hope. He wondered for a moment where Nell was and what she was doing, if her father was still giving her an earful about the fact that she'd gotten arrested.
As if things couldn't possible get worse, he got a call from his father. "You'll need to find your own way of getting home," the man said without so much as a hello. "The driver can't pick you up, he's got things to do and I've got to attend to your sister." This of course outraged Joshua, who glanced out the hallway window and shook his head vehemently. "You have got to be joking! I can't get home in that! It's like a hurricane out there, Dad, what the fuck am I supposed to do? Walk?" It was purely sarcastic, but Donovan didn't take it as such. "As long as you're home within the hour," he replied nonchalantly. "Or you could take the bus." Unable to believe even his father could be so callous, he asked, "Well can't you pick me up? I'll wait, I swear." He didn't even care that it meant listening to his father's griping the entire way home, he just wanted to stay dry and avoid getting sick. But Donovan was toneless as he replied, "I have things to do. You had better be back before I am, or there'll be trouble." Click. It took a huge amount of self control to avoid being childish and hurling the phone at a wall or something. He could perhaps have just asked Nell if she could give him a ride, but his pride and sense of independence wouldn't allow it. Instead, he decided to suck up his hatred of getting soaked and go catch the bus.
It should only have made sense that things wouldn't go to plan.
The nearest bus stop was hardly 'near' the Academy. The school was about ten minutes from the Hollow itself, reached only by a winding road that had a single method of transport other than the students' cars--the Academy's coach bus. And since Joshua had always either been driven by his parents or drove himself to school, he wasn't on the list of students permitted to take the coach bus. Even if he could have persuaded them to let him hop on, he was too late. It had already left. So Josh was forced to walk down the road with the constant effort of keeping dry and warm. Eventually he gave up, knowing there would be no point in constantly fighting off the rain. Plus, he was nearing the Hollow now. He couldn't risk anyone seeing him perfectly dry in the middle of this hellish rainstorm. The bus stop was right outside of Tim Hortons, and the simple decision to grab a tea in order to warm himself up for the ride home turned out to be a bad one. He missed the bus. Upon asking someone else waiting at the stop--and getting drenched all over again whilst doing so--he learned that they were every half hour. Unable to believe that his luck could really be this terrible, Joshua just tensed for a moment before nodding and turning back to the cafe. Better warm and dry than soaked to the skin for the next half hour...
The woman who served him seemed amused but sympathetic to the violently shivering teenager as he ordered a second tea, a bagel--toasted, sesame seed with herb and garlic cream cheese--and a maple pecan danish. He could have gone for an iced cappuccino if he wasn't already freezing cold. They were a staple favourite, after all. After receiving his order, he chose a table and sat down, still resisting the urge to wave his hand and dry himself off. Damn rules, he thought with a suppressed sigh. "Today is not my day," he muttered under his breath, then picked up his drink and took a long sip. It scalded his tongue and burned down his throat, but at the moment he really couldn't care less. |

as she drove, tempted to push her foot down a litter harder on the gas peddle, she was glad to see timmies in the distance and considered it luck. it would be unpleasant to get a speeding ticket today. parking her mini, a car she had worked most of her life to get after seeing a commercial with the beautiful cars, she took a moment to herself to just listen to the rain drops hitting her car. with another loud growl from her stomach, she laughed. "hold your horses, i'm going!" she spoke to her stomach, glad she was in her vehicle so no one heard her. the last thing she needed was someone thinking she was crazy.
exiting her car, unlike most people, harlow simply walked, letting the rain hit and slip off her white jacket. despite popular belief, it would not become see-through if wet. once at the door, a part of her was upset to be leaving the beautiful creation of mother earth, but another part yelled to be fed. the instant smell of coffee and sweets found her nose, tim hortons being a second home for harlow. she already knew exactly what she desired, being to timmies far more times than anyone actually should in their life time. like all times, harlow did not give a chance for the server to ask the famous question of what would you like, but simply dug right in. "hello there, i'd like a small iced capp made with half milk and half cream." pausing for a mere second, she let the lady put the order in before continuing. "i'd also like an everything bagel, toasted, with herb and garlic cream cheese." she finished, shaking her head when the lady asked if she wanted anything else.
handing the lady the money, which to her delight came up to less than five dollars, harlow grabbed her order. feeling like she was in a cafeteria again, she took those few awkward moments to look around tim hortons for a place to seat, before she noticed someone that looked all to familiar. of course, she had not seen the boy since he had taken her class some years ago, himself already graduated, but it was never too late to catch up... right?
walking over easily, she cleared her throat to get his attention. "well, hello there. i hope you don't mind me taking a seat?" she questioned while pulling out a chair from across the boy. taking a moment to look him over, he was wet and by the looks of it, not entirely happy. "if you don't mind me intruding, what's up grumpy gills?" she inquired, laughing in the process. taking a sip of her iced capp, she was beginning to remember the boy now. he had been a good student, unique one at that, and his name was... joshua? a puzzled look covered her face for a second, not willing to say the name out loud in case of it being totally wrong. instead, harlow simply waited. | [atrb=width,140] | [cs=2] |

Despite the rumours about Canadians and kindness, Joshua had never had anyone come up to him and start a random conversation when he was in a Tim Hortons before. It just wasn't something that happened enough to be considered a common occurrence, so he certainly wasn't expecting it when someone came up to him and invited themselves to sit in chipper tones. He looked up from his donut with a slight glower, about to demand who this stranger was and why the hell they thought it was okay to choose his table out of the many other empty ones in the cafe. It was then that Joshua recognised her, and his irritated expression changed to one of confusion--I know her from somewhere, but where?--to surprise as he realised exactly who it was. "Oh, hi, uh..." He realised now that he didn't know her name. He had been in her class some time ago, and Joshua remembered most of the people who had taught him over the years, even the less-than-memorable ones. However, he'd never known her on a personal level and so had no idea what to call her other than, "Jeez... Professor Notara, right?" He furrowed his brow and said this in a questioning manner, allowing it to be open for correction if he'd assumed wrong. "I never really got your name."
Giving a slight start as he realised he hadn't exactly confirmed that she could sit down, he shot her an apologetic half-smile. "Oh, um, yeah. Go right ahead." He gestured to the chair that she'd pulled out as if to say 'be my guest'. It was strange seeing her again after so many years. He was in his second year of college now and it was hard to believe it had been that long since he'd sat and listened to her teaching a class. How should he behave around her, knowing that she had once taught him but was now no longer his professor, but just another woman out in the big bad world? Or, you know, the small little Timmies by the bus stop. "Feel free to intrude," he sighed. "I'm afraid it's not too much of an interesting story, I just have the worst luck of anyone in the entire geographical area." He had never been an optimist, but he also wasn't trying to drag this conversation down by being all drab and depressing. Joshua was just honestly telling her what happened. "It would be my luck that it rained when I don't have my car--" He hadn't even known how to drive when he'd started taking her classes, had he? Time flies, "--and I missed the damn bus by a couple of seconds." It had been his own fault and all, opting to go into the coffee shop, but still!
Harlow seemed confused about something, but Joshua didn't want to intrude by asking what it was. They were only very lightly acquainted, so he didn't want to seem like he had a sudden and intrusive interest in her life. Joshua was very polite to those he respected, after all, and if you taught him once and were fair about marks and assignments, there was a good chance you could count yourself amongst that number. "It's been quite a while," he mused, knowing that one of them would have had to have acknowledged it eventually. Might as well get it out of the way whilst he could, right? "How have you been? Do you still teach at the Academy?" |
[/b] After he'd graduated and started taking Biology as his major, he had been forced to discontinue a lot of classes. He wanted to be a doctor, not an author, and so as much as he had enjoyed Harlow's classes, graduating had put an end to them.[/div][/center][/td][/tr][/table][/center]

"glad you remember my name joshua." she spoke warmly, hesitating on the name as it came out. it was not like harlow to forget a student, especially one in her class. "i suppose when we were in the academy technicalities like professor notara were more common." she added with a laugh, amazed at how fast time had passed for the both of them. "you can call me harlow now, if you please." a smile broke across her face before she took a bite of her bagel, followed by another sip of her iced capp.
listening to his circumstance of being stuck, a pang of guilt hit her heart. although it had been years since she had not had her own car, she did remember the horrible helplessness you felt when you did not have one. "that sounds like quite a dilemma." she commented, her voice drifting into thought. "i hope you are not required anywhere soon." she added, wondering if it would still be considered unprofessional if she offered him a ride. after all, they were no longer in the same school, let alone class, but could it still be considered inappropriate of her to offer a former student? she sighed, the stupid rules of teachers starting to pick at her nerves. she had been driven by teachers before, though they were generally girls. pushing the thought aside, she decided if the time came, she'd offer her former student some help... unprofessional or not.
as the conversation drifted off to the thing it was bound to, joshua had never changed. always getting to the point, or rather, not waiting for something to eventually pop up, she smiled. "i've been like any teacher can be, busy with papers and teaching." she replied to his first question while taking a quick glance down at her satchel. she could just picture the weight it held with the mounds of creative writing pieces it held and for a moment, she shivered. not out of coldness, but out of pure thought that she would be spending many hours during the night correcting them. looking back up to joshua, she smiled. "i do still teach at the academy. i assume you've moved onto college? or so i hope." she returned a question, hoping she did not sound too much like a teacher by saying it.
as she awaited his answer and observed the wet spots on him, a part of her wondered why the fire student had not used his heat to dry them. "he could get in trouble!" her mind reminded her and harlow felt like a blond for a moment. sometimes she wished everyone had powers and that using them was a common occurrence. however, after watching the harry potter movies, she understood where certain rules came from. "but still... how awesome would it be?" a smile crossed her face. her thoughts, how amusing at times. | [atrb=width,140] | [cs=2] |

He thought that he heard a slight hesitation when she said his name, but didn't realise that she'd been uncertain about whether it was correct, merely assuming that she was deciding whether to address him by his first name or his last. He was really used to both at the Academy; some people got overly formal and called him 'Dale', others just used his name. "Never forget a face--or a name, in this case." He gave her an easy sort of half-smile as he relayed the joke. "Harlow it is," he said with a nod. "I always did wonder what the 'h' stood for. I guess that mystery's solved now." He supposed that the plaques on the rooms of teachers only had the first initial to discourage students from getting too unprofessional in their titles of address. And it worked, he supposed, considering he hadn't even known her name until now.
He was indeed required to be somewhere soon. If he didn't get home on time his father was going to slaughter him, but Joshua wasn't about to burden anyone else with his problems. "Not at all," Josh replied without hesitation. The lie was incredibly convincing. He was too good at being deceptive considering how many lies he told on a daily basis. He may have been a good student, but a good person? That was another matter entirely. "It's just a bit of a pain. I figured I'd just sit in Tim Hortons and wait for the next bus to show." He gave an exaggerated sigh as he glanced out of the large window and toward the bus stop. A lady stood there with an umbrella over the stroller of her small child, her own hair plastered to her head. Poor woman, though Joshua felt no empathy. "It'll be quite a while. Ah, well. At least I've got my tea to drink."
A light laugh coloured the air when she told him how she'd been, the boy feeling amused by the comment. "I don't imagine you're looking forward to grading all those papers, hmm?" He couldn't imagine how boring it must be to sit and read through a bunch of essays every night, especially since a lot of students chose cliché routes and so their essays would be the same. He tried to go with abstract or unusual topics just so that his work would stand out amongst the rest. "Yes, I stayed for college," he laughed. "I'm a Biology major. If all goes well, I'll be off to medical school in a few years." He was practically the poster child for the sort of success most parents wanted in their child. A lot of people dreamed of their kids growing up to be doctors, lawyers, really making something out of their lives. Josh didn't have to be told, he did it all on his own.
As the Fire graduate lifted his bagel to take another bite out of it, he thought of other things he might be able to say in order to keep a steady flow of conversation. Through talking with Nell it was becoming a little easier to carry on conversations with people, though he still had some difficulty with strangers. It was a good thing that he and Harlow had been acquainted before, even if only professionally, because that meant that he 'knew' her, in a way. "You don't seem like you got too drenched," he remarked, glancing at his own sleeves and being able to feel that they were still damp. "Sucks that I can't just wish to be dry and make it happen." There was a slight mischief behind the smile, but Josh wasn't a cheater. He obeyed the rules, because he knew what would happen if he did not. |

"to think i did the same thing with my teachers. a first name, how interesting can it be?" she spoke absent-mindedly. harlow guessed into todays day and age, simple things like asking and you shall find the answer did not exactly applied. or perhaps common respect for someone higher than you still played a role in some student's lives. apparently joshua was one of them.
expecting a distraught answer of him needing to be somewhere as soon as possible, harlow was slightly shocked to get such a strong answer with no hesitation. a part of her wondered if joshua here was a compulsive liar, able to hide his request for help too well, or if he was simply telling the truth. nodding, a half-smile caught her lips. "tea only fixes so much... she trailed off, knowing deep down inside she believed it fixed everything. tea was something wonderful, sent from the gods above. "with that said, if you do require assistance, it would be my pleasure to help a fellow student." she added whole-heartedly before taking a quick sip of her iced capp.
with the cold drink streaming through her system, harlow took the idea of grading papers well then if she was without the soothing drink. "it could be worse, but yes, i am not entirely pleased to spend my nights grading all the time." she replied, laughing. it sounded as if she had no social life, which in some debates, could be considered true. however, as a teacher, kids came first despite contrary belief. with josh's next answer, harlow's laugh slowly died down and she did not bother to hide the hurt in her eyes. it was always said to see a talented writer like joshua take a different path. smiling nonetheless, she sighed lightly. "you are certainly a perfect child when it comes to education joshua." she stated truthfully, knowing full well that if he put his mind to it, it could be accomplished. "but never lose the will to express yourself. alright?" she added, a hopeful tint in her voice.
taking a moment to watch the rain outside, it showing no sign of actually letting up, a part of her grew excited. there was something about storms that turned the mature school teacher into a little six year old again. catching the mischief in joshua's voice, harlow chuckled, amused. "rules are put in place for a reason, though during times like these, you have to wonder if they are meant to be broken." she glanced at josh's wet clothes as she said these. "unless you have a car like me." she added quickly after, more jokingly then to tease the poor boy for lacking one. | [atrb=width,140] | [cs=2] |

He was surprised when Pro--when Harlow offered her assistance. For a moment Joshua was indeed tempted, but inside the boy knew that pride would never let him accept such a thing. He liked to be independent and bold. "I couldn't ask that of you," he said with a smile and an easy wave of his hand. "Just heading home, they won't miss me. I stay behind at school a lot to catch up on stuff, so they'll probably assume that's where I am." Using the truth to further back up and concrete his lies was one of the things that made him good at it. Joshua really did stay behind at school a lot and it was indeed to study. Plus, he was nineteen years old. Most rational people wouldn't assume that his parents still had the ability to ground him and besides, it was perfectly plausible to assume that he'd already moved out. Unless she knew of his parents and the fact that they owned a mansion, in which case he might just have been crazy to move out.
The praise on the subject of his education was unexpected, but not unwelcome. He was used to getting compliments from his professors when he was at the Academy and inside of the classroom environment, but this was different and much more flattering. "Thank you," Joshua replied with a slight smile. "Of course not." He recognised that she was a little put off. "Writing isn't a talent I'll lose, no worries. I'll need it to write my thesis and that sort of thing, you know?" His gray eyes were light as he said this with amusement. "Enough about me, though," he added lightly. "Have you gotten any interesting students lately?" It was strange to be showing an interest in the life of someone who had once taught him, but he was getting over the feeling. They weren't professor and student any more, so he could talk to her normally like this. Almost like a friend.
A hollow laugh brushed past his lips. "The last time I tested that theory, I nearly ended up in a cell." It was said with an intent for lightness, but the sheer words themselves and the fact that he was being entirely serious brought a sort of a darkness into his tone. He was speaking of the government and how he had slipped up in the past. "In this case, I'll take a little dampness over... other things." He didn't want to be strapped to a table and tested on, thank you very much. He didn't think that he would get a cold, at least. He could warm himself just as long as it didn't make it too warm and dry off his clothing prematurely. There was a chance that the others in the cafe wouldn't even notice, but Josh wasn't taking any chances. |

"i don't believe you were asking... i was offering." she returned to his statement, before letting out yet another laugh. so perhaps testing the boy was not harlow's best move in her game of chess, and perhaps she was, in a way, forcing him to take her offer, but it was all in fun and games. as her laugh died down and harlow's raised a hand to wipe the tears that had formed in her eyes, she smiled. "i'm kidding darling, but the offer if always open if you need it." she finally added to her other statement, amusement clear in his features. she hoped she had not made the boy feel too awkward or out of place with her witty reply, but he had been asking for it and it was too good of an offer to miss.
glad to hear the boy was not going to lose his writing abilities, harlow nodded in approval. "nothing is more worse than seeing a boy with talent waste it, i'm glad to hear that." her voice was hopeful, understanding that maybe joshua said it simply to please her, but deep down she believed his words. there was some endearing about the way he said them that made her want to give him the benefit of the doubt, even if there was a chance behind the words was a lie.
as joshua swiftly changed the subject back onto her, she smiled at not only his ability to keep a conversation going, but his ability to make her want to talk about herself. as she thought a couple moments about the students she had, or rather, the ones she had seen roaming the halls, she sighed. "believe it or not, most the students this year are less memorable than you were when you were there." she admitted, not wanting for him to think they were boring or anything, but rather, not ones that popped out. "however, i have stumbled upon a few that are not in my class but spark my attention..." she trailed off for a second trying to remember the names. "well, there is the triplets, who are never a duel moment, or so i've heard." she starting, thinking of all the horrible stories teachers had shared and how much she hoped none would enter the walls of her class. "then there is a girl i recently met in the library, hard at work. her name was nell, a sweet girl. reminded me a lot of myself at her age." she added, a smile going back to the night with her in the library. sadly, the girl had not been able to attend her class, but harlow still hoped.
admitting to testing the rules that had been placed for the elemental population, harlow raised an eyebrow, curious. "dare i ask what adventures you've had?" she questioned, curiosity and amusement entering her voice. she could only imagine what sort of trouble the boy had got into. after all, the way he acted around his friends and how he acted in front of a former teacher, or current depending when it happened, were awfully different. perhaps mister joshua here had a more sinister, secret life that harlow had missed. the curiosities. | [atrb=width,140] | [cs=2] |

Just as Harlow wasn't giving up too easily, nor was Joshua. He didn't really want to admit his weakness and thus he wasn't going to, no matter how tempting it was to just nod and accept a ride. It had nothing to do with the awkwardness of the former student-teacher relationship and more to do with Josh's stubborn pride. "And I refused. Really, don't worry about me." His words were phrased kindly and accompanied by a smile. This was truly nothing personal, for Joshua was not usually an underhanded guy. If he had a problem with what you were saying or suggesting to him, he would go on the aggressive if the need arose. "I'll keep that in mind." He didn't feel awkward, but even just talking as they were Joshua understood that he would not take her up on the offer. Pride was a terrible thing. "Are you on your way somewhere?" It wouldn't change his answer, he was just curious as to whether Timmies had been her destination or simply a pit stop.
"Oh I'm flattered," he chuckled jokingly when she said that not many were as memorable as he had been. He understood that she likely didn't mean it as an attack on any of her students and so he didn't say it seriously or sound too arrogant in his acceptance of a sort of compliment. He enjoyed the idea that he was memorable, but he didn't flaunt it. Didn't feel the need. "The Bennetts?" he asked for clarification, brow furrowing when she mentioned triplets. "I only know of Altair, being that we're in the same element and all. But yeah, I've heard they're quite... troublesome." Not only that, but he was personally acquainted with Altair in the sense that they'd been in a physical confrontation. He had eventually just shrugged and walked away, figuring it wasn't worth it.
When Nell was mentioned, however, Joshua visibly brightened. Now here was someone he had heard of. "Oh, I know Nell," he said cheerfully. "She's my, uh, she's a... friend." Somehow telling Harlow that the two were romantically involved made him chicken out. Not because he was ashamed of Nell but because he still wasn't sure of how people would view him in terms of boyfriend material. He didn't have the most innocent history. Then, deciding that he didn't give a damn, he shrugged. "She's my girlfriend," he corrected. "Nell's really great. Is she in your class this year?" Hmm. Was it creepy to be talking about Nell behind her back? We're not saying anything bad. Plus, Harlow brought her up, not me. That makes it okay, right? Wonder if anyone ever asks her about me? And that almost made him blush, so he resolved to stop thinking about it.
"You could ask, but my lips are sealed." He gave her a mischievous smile as if joking, but it was really just a way around the question. It was a bit personal and even though hanging around Nell a lot of the time had trained him in the art of carrying on a conversation, he still wasn't too great with talking about himself. |

YOU CAN'T FEEL ANYTHING THAT YOUR HEART DON'T WANT TO FEEL. I CAN'T TELL YOU SOMETHING THAT AIN'T REAL. THE TRUTH HURTS AND LIES - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - worse | [atrb=width,240] with the question, harlow was forced to think. exactly why had she made a stop to tim hortons? there was the main reason that her stomach had been aching for something to eat, but as she took a quick glance at her satchel, she knew it was mostly for the fact that she needed an iced capp in her system to help her correct the papers. it was not just students who needed a boost when studying, but also teachers. with that thought, harlow took a sip of her iced capp that was on a steady way of melting, followed by a bite of her bagel, which was more than half way finished. "i was on my way here. needed a change of atmosphere while correcting papers." she finally replied, taking far to much time to think over such a simple reply.
nodding, agreeing that he should feel flattered, harlow was not always so giving with compliments. however, at the name bennett, as instinct, a light shiver ran through her body. to her happiness, she had yet to be graced by one of the ladies in her class, but she knew it was only a matter of time. "troublesome would be a kind word to describe them." harlow said without thinking and realized had someone else heard her, she could be in trouble. it was not right for teachers to be talking behind students backs, let alone talking about them period. "what i mean is, they are interesting girls." harlow corrected herself, an unpleasant smile following the words. just the thought of the bennetts, far to much for harlow to handle at the moment.
instantly noticing the change in josh's atmosphere at the mention of nell, harlow's curiosity rose quickly. she remained silent, hearing him describe her as a friend, though she felt more would be coming. looking at him with a puzzling look, could it be possible that the graduate had someone been involved with nell, or rather, currently was? harlow's heart picked up its pace at the sound of potential romantic stories popping up. although harlow was not a fan of romance for herself, it did not mean she did not like to see others happy. with her thoughts being cut off, harlow heard the words she was waiting for and her face brightened. "well, a pleasant surprise!" she said with a cheery voice. "sadly, she is unable to attend my class currently, far to busy with her current studies." she replied, uncertain if talking about another student's school life was alright, despite the fact the two were dating. "so how long, if you don't mind me asking?" she quickly babbled out.
with josh's smile, harlow simply laughed with amusement, deciding to drop the topic. after all, she certainly had some secrets she did not intend to tell the world anytime soon, she surely did not expect to get it out of a former student. | [atrb=width,140] | [cs=2] |

Joshua nodded in reply to Harlow's words, mostly to show that he'd heard. "I'm just ducking out the way of the rain," he said with a bit of a chuckle, though she hadn't asked. He had learned that you sometimes had to make a conversation a little less than one-sided by taking the initiative and just talking sometimes. It had been a lot more difficult than this in the beginning, and poor Nell had just been the guinea pig for his social awkwardness. Now he was alright with it, even if he did try to keep personal details hidden away from the people that he spoke to. He wondered if Harlow noticed the change in him--from the quiet studier in the back of class to someone that would actually respond to general questions outside a classroom environment. "I like the rain, but I don't like being ill, so I'd rather not get too soaked." Even if his father was a doctor that could get him some pretty powerful cold medicine without too much hassle, Joshua preferred to just avoid getting sick at all.
He chuckled when she corrected herself, not missing the fact that she was probably trying to keep this professional. "No need to filter around me," he assured her. "I don't disagree in the least." He disliked Altair from what he'd seen of her thus far and he hadn't met the other two, but if they were triplets he imagined that they would stick up for one another. Besides, Joshua was not petty. He might sell you out if you cheat on an exam, but he wasn't going to pop into the office of administration and tattle on Harlow for badmouthing the students behind their backs. They were adults, after all, the pair of them. They could handle a mature conversation, or so he believed. "Interesting is an... interesting way to put it," he said with a bit of a smirk. Alright, so now he was just being punny. He didn't laugh or give any other indication that he was joking, but it wasn't too hard to figure out.
Harlow seemed quite enthusiastic on the subject of he and Nell, something that Joshua hadn't quite expected. Blinking, he said, "Not too long, but we were friends before." He figured that the fact she had been his best friend gave a strong basis for their relationship. He'd heard rumours that you could seriously endanger a friendship by turning it into something more, but... if you cared so deeply about something going into the dating scene, that should give you better chances, right? He honestly didn't know if he was doing the right thing, all he knew was that he had feelings for her and he acted on them. "Best friends and study partners," he chuckled, remembering that Harlow had said Nell was too busy with her work. "We hang out in the library a lot." It might not have made sense that Joshua was the type who'd gotten into the cute sort of relationship--I mean, just look at his history!--but hell, it had happened. |
