Just to be clear, Danny didn't have anything against books. When he was young, he had been extremely poor, and didn't have all the cool fancy toys most kids had. Instead, he had books. His mother always read them aloud to he and his little sister, making them exciting. The library had been one of his favourite places to be, and more often than not, one could've found him there. His friends teased him about being a "bookworm". Danny had shrugged it off. The worlds of his fantasy books were much more interesting than this one, and he was smarter than most people because of it. In fact, you could say that Danny was a great lover of books; back in his dorm room he had stacks of them all over the place, having more books than clothing.
Nope, it wasn't the books he had a problem with. What Danny had a problem with was crazy librarians. The ones back home had been the old grandmother type, who always asked kindly if one needed help. Mrs. Warren, the librarian back home, was his mental picture of a loving grandmother, since he didn't have one himself. But the librarians here? They were scary. They scowled and glared and tutted and yelled. They were extremely anal about things getting out of place, and if one made a noise above a little squeak, they pounced on them like a cat on a mouse. Danny was fairly certain that most of these librarians were assassins in their past life, the way they quietly snuck up on someone and how they could cut someone to pieces with their tongues. They didn't seem to want students in the library, either, which Danny happened to feel was totally unfair.
After all, a library was there for the students, right?
Today, Danny had been yelled at twice for tapping his pencil, once for setting a book not in the correct place, and three times for talking to loud. The unhappy young man sat in his little corner of the library, scowling down at the book report he was suppose to do. The evil librarian that seemed to have it out for him was a couple of feet away, giving him the evil eye as she put away books. Danny sighed, scratching out a sentence. "Hell couldn't be any worse than this..." he muttered under his breath, hoping that something, someone would save him from this eerily silent hell.
