The mess hall, or cafeteria to some, the common playground for teenagers as he had realized in his few years of attending here. Generally this is where group things seemed to happen - as in between the elemental groups - and where cliques seemed to stick out most, even in a school as unique as their own they had their own.. Issues with cliques, Leif himself wasn't in one, dabbling in to many pools, being much too accepting and not letting himself close enough to be in one of those groups, not to mention stereotypical cliques upset him, it was one of the cruelest ways to hurt someone without actually punching them in the face - he preferred this to the actual violence but still - cliques could be quite vicious as Leif had assumed from every teenager book out there. Though, these cliques tended to be drowned out by the groups, now those were what people seemed to sit in the most, though sometimes there was cliques within the groups... How lame.
Now this was the heart of their eco-system, where anyone got together and ate, usually Leif would grab some small foods - i.e. chips, hot dogs, any junk food really - and slip back to his dorms to eat it or to some secluded area, he may have some acquaintances in here that would like him to eat with him but he avoided eating with them, to much times and much to many questions about his eating habits, though even Leif at times questioned it himself, but those thoughts were usually left behind due to other reasons. Now, one thing that was out of the norm of high school cafeterias was that the food wasn't actual crap, from the unhealthy food that Leif choose to eat the food was pretty decent which was a good thing, he would probably eat less - and less healthy - food if it was any bad.
Lining up for the food, Leif thanked the fact that there was not much of a line so he didn't have to spend much time standing around, not feeling particularly peckish - when was he ever? - Leif only ordered himself a slice of pepperoni pizza and a pop, usually he would get some sort of sweet instead of the actual food when he was feeling like this but he guessed the pop would suffice for that instead. Moving away from the lunch line, his eyes scanned for a table in the general vicinity of the earth students, but in a so that it was far enough to not be in the area, eventually his blue eyes fell on table, it wasn't as large as the other tables and was clear of students, it was near the earth students and at the same time not, close to the doors; in case some people came and Leif had to make a quick escape and leave.
Worming his way throw the hustle and bustle of the students Leif made his way to the seat, it puzzled him why he didn't want to just eat in his room like always, maybe he was just there to much? It's not like went out with his acquaintances, more of, he saw them and if he wanted to - or if they wanted to - then they would interact nothing more, nothing less, so maybe he was just going to stare at others have fun and speak with their friends being envious- such a sad thing to do - but he shoved that thought back and continued on his way. Finally done worming his way through, Leif sat down pleasantly and began to pick at the food he had purchased with a fork, it was odd to eat pizza with a fork but whatever, he was often like this, he would think while subconsciously eating his food.
Hearing the screech of a chair sliding against the floor in front of him, Leif inwardly sighed, he might as well greet the person - he was the friendly type - before excusing himself with a 'I have to go' throwing out his food and leaving in a huff, he wished the person would've waited till he at least ate a bit of his food or at least took a drink, he was going hungry today. Oh well all in the sake of keeping yourself away from that sorta of thing right? But before that, he had to be friendly and polite his personality demanded it.
"Hello."

Almost as a rule, Lucia didn't hate anyone. It wasn't in her nature to do so. She wasn't a cruel or malicious person, not unless you truly pissed her off. Which was nearly impossible. But not the "nearly" part of it. Though Lucia was known for being extremely even tempered, and although she was sarcastic at times, she didn't often hate anyone. But there was always an exception to the rule. There was very little that could truly irritate her, mostly because of her laid back attitude. If someone got worked up about everything, they would have not time for anything else. Lucia was not fond of wasting time. Plus, her sister had always been highly strung, and somehow (maybe it was a twin thing, meant to balance the two out) she had to deal with her. And therein lay the problem.
Lucia didn't often talk to her mother. After the accident three years ago, the state had taken custody of her away. Lucia often felt sorry for Marianna. After her husband - her father - had died, Marianna became a broken woman. That didn't excuse the actions, though. To this day she had scars, scars that she would never fully heal. Because Marianna had locked her in a dark closet for three days, she had a fear of the dark, even to this day. Lucia didn't forgive people once they trespassed against her, no matter what the Bible said. Her family wasn't very religious, anyway. But returning to the subject at hand, it was pretty much her mother's job to make her life hell, even from miles and miles away. She had received a phone call this afternoon from her, something that the state allowed Marianna once a month. And what had Marianna gone on about? Lucia's missing twin, Rosalie.
Lucia rarely ever talked about Rosie, both to her friends, and just in general. Rosie was her other half, a part of her that was closer than anyone else. She had been the exact opposite of Lucia, hot-tempered, highly strung, cynical and hyper. Despite these differences, though, they had been incredibly close. Most twins had a "twin speak", their own language, that they dropped when they went to school. Lucia and Rosie? They had kept it up all through school. They were as close as twins could be, up until the point of the accident. Lucia didn't remember anything about it, other than her mother pushing her down the stairs. She was told that her sister, a Fire Elemental, had lost control and burned her, ending up with the scars on her back.
Lucia hadn't seen her since. Her mother had ranted and raved on how that her baby was lost, how she was never going to see her again, and how it was all Lucia's fault. Lucia had listened patiently for a half an hour, not saying anything but feeling angry and upset, before hanging up. She couldn't stay in her dorm room - it was empty, and right now, she wanted to be around people. She knew that she looked terrible - face tear stained, stormy eyes bright with both tears and anger, clothes rumpled - but she didn't care. She rarely ever did. The girl walked around the campus for an hour before ending up at the mess hall. She wasn't really all that hungry, but she knew herself well enough to know that later she would be hungry later, and regret not eating anything. So, reluctantly, she got herself an apple and some pizza, reasoning that she could save the apple for later.
Looking around, she noticed that the mess hall had started to fill up some. The blonde girl spotted a nearly empty table in the Earth section and made a beeline towards it. Most of the time she didn't care about Elemental differences, but right now, she wanted to be with her own kind. She pulled the chair back, wincing at the shrieking sort of noise (why did they always have to do that?), setting her tray down as she did so. Lucia glanced at the boy across from her, managing to pull a smile up from the depths of... somewhere. "Hello. I'm not bothering you, am I?" While Lucia didn't really want to move, she definitely didn't want to bother anyone. After all, despite the terrible mood she was in, she didn't think bothering someone else was okay.
If only her mother would understand that... count : 900 some tags : Leif noted : Terrible post. >.< credited : KBIRD of caution 2.0

Leif was tense, all he wanted was to eat his pizza, and not have to speak to anyone, he was in a current state where he couldn't talk for a meal, even one as small as this. Inwardly, Leif sighed and tried to think of a very polite way to leave, he knew that his previous idea - of just saying that he was full and running off - was a very bad idea and could seriously hurt this - looking up for a moment Leif realized it to be a female - girl's feelings, so he would have to be more gentle about it, not because she was a girl - Leif didn't find girls weak or anything - but because it could be very hurtful, Leif knew that from experience. Looking up again, now resting his face on his hands - which had formed some sort of bridge - he examined her, she was familiar, most likely an earth, Leif didn't take the time to search his brain for clearance - he wasn't in the mood - and just took the observational as it was; the girl was pretty, with long blond hair and stunning blue eyes, he wondered if she was younger than him, she had this youthful look to herself but her eyes made her seem older - at least to Leif - so he pinned her around his age, most likely a couple of months older or maybe younger, Leif wasn't in the right mood to go into it.
That's when realization hit Leif, he had been blatantly unresponsive for a couple of minutes now, trapped within his observations and thoughts, he gave an awkward half smile to the girl and spoke, "no, not at all! Sorry, I'm just a little... Out there today." Leif's voice was particularly lacking of emotion, excluding a bit of guilt laced in there, he doubted she would notice though, no one ever really did with him, well, excluding people who knew him well. "Your... An earth student right?" Leif asked wearily, some people - especially now - could get pretty offended, but of course with the war happening he doubted that anyone really sat away from their respective groups, unless well, you were either neutral or you sided with the opposite side, in which Leif had nothing to say.
Leif looked at her awkwardly, he felt very much out there right now, shouldn't he be happy that someone wanted to actually be near him? The answer to that question would be no, he didn't want to have one of those in depth lunch conversations, but he also really wanted to eat - his stomach was trying to eat itself he swears - hopefully, him and the girl would be to busy scarfing down food than actually talking, Leif could only hope, but his original plan of running off had crashed and burned. Finally obeying his stomach, Leif took a small bite of his pizza, his eyes dropping from the girl to his food, Leif wiped his greasy fingers off on a napkin before drinking his pop ever so quietly, why was he feeling like someone was judging him? Because someone was, said a little voice in Leif's head; Leif was used to being judged when doing anything and for the last four years the paranoia had stuck he guessed, Leif wondered if he could get any more weird.

Lucia offered the boy a simple little smile, not quiet as bright today as it would be any other day. It wasn't often that she was depressed - many people commented on her irrepressible spirit, and how she always looked on the bright side. It was true, Lucia always looked at the glass half full. Simply because the other option was far too depressing. And, honestly, who wanted to be depressed all the time? Not her, that was for sure. She was the type that the elderly always commented on being warm, making them feel better. Even today, a day that she marked as one of the worse days of her life, she was conscious of other people's feelings, and positioned herself to make them feel better. She realized that she had intruded on this boys' lunch, and felt bad about it. Hence the quiet little smile, an peace offering.
The blonde haired girl took a bite of her food, not at all uncomfortable with the lack of response. Not all people could be a chatterbox like her, after all. Her stormy blue-grey eyes watched him curiously, no judgement, just interest. He looked vaguely familiar, like someone she had seen often enough to recognize but not often enough to put a name to it. Since he was sitting over in this section, she assumed he was an Earth, though assuming usually got her into trouble. Speaking of trouble, Lucia really had no idea what to think of the trouble that was currently going on. Most of the time, she ignored it, since it had nothing to do with her. She would protect herself and her friends, and that was the end of it. She didn't want to be involved. The blonde girl certainly didn't agree with the Fire's way of doing things, though she kept that part to herself. If asked, she'd say that, but other than that? Well, Lucia wasn't out to start, or receive, trouble.
"That's perfectly all right. I intruded on your lunch, of course I would've bothered you." Lucia said with a shake of her head. She took another bite of her food, feeling a bit better now that she was talking with someone. Lucia had always hated being by herself. While she was no social gossiper or anything like that, she did like to be around people. Though her face was still strained, obviously tear stained. Lucia didn't wear make up or anything like that, too, so it was obvious. To his question, Lucia nodded. "Yes, I am." Three little words, said quietly and gently, as not to cause any trouble. She looked at him over her pizza, watching him open his pop. Realizing that she hadn't introduced herself, she quickly remedied that. "My name's Lucia Newman, though most people call me Luci. It's nice to meet you." Honestly, she didn't know if it was nice to meet him or not yet, but, again, she always looked on the bright side of things. Part of her still believed she was bothering him, though, so that part of her prepared for a rebuff... count : 517 some tags : Leif noted : Quite all right, mine isn't much better. <.< credited : KBIRD of caution 2.0
