Joshua had been avoiding the dungeons and Fire dormitories like the plague. He'd been kicked out, turned into an outcast for real this time. It wasn't just that he didn't get along with his fellow Fire students, it was that they had cast him from their ranks and threatened his health and well-being should he come within however many feet of their lair. And Josh wasn't stupid--he knew that he couldn't take on the entire quantity of the Fire dormitories by himself. So he hadn't been dumb enough to risk it. But now, though... Joshua stared at the reference list for the test and scowled. It would be the one book I haven't gotten a new copy of, he thought darkly, thinking back to the textbook which he knew would be sitting on the single shelf of his dormitory that he designated for all of his school textbooks.
Well, he had two choices: he could either scrap the book and risk failing the test, or rescue it and pass. Of course, the latter would also mean risking life and limb by sneaking into the Fire dormitories. To most the choice would seem obvious. It was obvious to Joshua as well, though he didn't choose what most rational human beings would have. He was going for the book. Dorky as it was, studying really did matter that much to Joshua Dale. He'd risk his neck for a simple textbook. After all, it wasn't like he had any friends of which to speak that could lend him theirs. Nell, but they weren't in the same grade. Jacob wasn't even really a friend, and even if he had been, he'd chosen to side with his sister. Josh was all on his own. He was usually used to the loner mentality, but this was a bit... different.
The dungeons were thankfully very empty that morning, and he slipped through them to the tunnel leading toward the dormitory without much hassle. By 'morning', it was around three AM. Hardly anyone was awake and so he figured that this would be a good time to try and sneak in. He'd been one of the late crashers, early risers. He knew that not many people would be up around this time. And he was right. Slipping into the dorms, he felt strange as their familiar warmth closed in around him. He'd gotten so used to the fragrant smells and lack of heat in the Earth dormitories as of late that this had been unexpected. Everything was going well until he reached his dormitory, which turned out to be locked. Fuck, not now! Frantically he tried to pick it whilst at the same time not making too much noise, but to someone having trouble sleeping or at least a light sleeper, it may have been apparent.

It was yet again, another restless night for Cameron. She couldn't sleep, tossing and turning, again for whatever reason she still did not understand. She stared up at the ceiling, uncertain about how exactly she was going to fall asleep. Her mind was a mess, doing a lot of thinking in her subconscious. I just wish I knew what exactly I was thinking! Anyone else who was her may have taken this time to study hard for a test, or taken some sort of sleeping remedy. Cameron though, no she was going to fall asleep, it had to happen.
She could hear people below and for a moment she considered getting up and joining those who stayed up this late or awoke this early. Yet then again she really did not want to hear about peoples problems of why they were still awake, or get stuck talking to someone that she didn't really like. Then again if Alexandre was down there then of course Cameron would regret not going down and talking with her best friend. As she listened more she realized that no noise was really coming from the common room, so with a sigh of exasperation she shut her eyes again trying to sleep when she heard it.
Looking over at the clock she saw that it was three, and she wondered who on earth could be making so much noise. Cameron climbed out of bed in only her PJs, and walked down out of her dormitory into the common room, where still no one was. She stayed quiet again listening for another noise, thankful that she was barefoot. She heard again a slight rustle in the boys dormitory, so looking around hoping not to get into any trouble she walked up. What in few moments she should have done was gone to get Alexandre before investigating, but no she kept walking to where the noise was becoming slightly louder, making as little noise as possible. Cameron watched as she saw someone trying to break into a dormitory. For a moment Cam watched, completely still and silent trying to figure out who this person was.
That was when it hit her; Joshua Dale. The fire traitor. Cameron took an involuntary breath of shock and then narrowed her eyes, putting her hand on her hip. "What the hell are you doing in here?" Cameron did keep her voice down a bit, but not low enough as though whispering. Someone would only stir if they were awake already, but she wasn't loud enough to wake anyone up, something that Cameron deeply hoped she would not regret.

A triumphant flash danced in his gray eyes as with a soft click! the lock to the door gave way and opened. It had taken quite a while to pick it--Joshua was no expert, and his only experience came from the fact that he used to sneak in and out of his house all of the time as a kid. Seemed like all of that childhood deception had finally amounted to something at last! At any rate, he was feeling pretty relieved and confident until a voice spoke from behind him.
Joshua froze, a chill shuddering down his spine as he came to the realisation that he was caught. Whirling around, he hoped that it would be someone that he could reason with or at least take on without much of an effort, but then he reminded himself that he was in the middle of the dormitories and that any sound of fighting would probably bring the wrath of the entire place on his head. Shit, he acknowledged, this is not good. He hadn't really planned on what to do if he was busted because he hadn't planned on being busted. He was confident enough in his sneaking abilities, but now it was shaping up to seem like they needed serious work. But that could be worried over later. Right now he was more concerned with the girl staring him down.
"Cameron."
He spoke her name quietly into the darkness, his voice hard and distrusting. Unfortunately for Joshua, he recognised her as one of the most loyal friends of the Fire leader--the same leader that had ordered his outcast and threatened him against stepping foot here ever again. His lips suddenly felt abnormally dry. He was nervous, but he didn't want to admit that to the enemy, so Josh remained carefully calm and collected as he said, "Getting into my room, what does it look like I'm doing?" The words were almost a challenge, and it was probably a bad idea to take such a tone with someone who, if he thought about it, had the upper hand here. If it was one-on-one he'd stand more than a chance, but it wouldn't be one on one. He wasn't kidding himself with that.
At any rate, he wasn't lying. This was his room, technically. Given to Joshua and only Josh by the Academy for this year. He had no roommate because he'd claimed it would interfere with his studying. This was partially true, but it was also because he really didn't want to deal with anyone else in his personal space.
