DISTINGUISHING FEATURES derek is a pretty simple boy, except he has this wild imagination when it comes to body art. he has lots of tattoos all over his body, each one meaning something different and some made just because he believes his body is his canvas to paint on. the real tattoo he's definitely proud of is the lightning bolt tattoo right above his hop bone symbolizing the element he corresponds to, representing his elemental bond with nature.
CLOTHING STYLE the irony of it all was that as much as derek acted like he didn't care, he took others opinions on what he wore extremely seriously. having a very eclectic wardrobe, he often wore darker clothes, skinny jeans, in a simple term 'rebel without a cause' wardrobe. derek always wore a necklace with a auburn sphere inside, it was something his mother gave him when he was younger, and it was just that little piece of something he always kept for safe measure.

BEST MEMORY It had been Derek's eighth birthday and he was really getting into the music scene, still banging on pots and pans and generally making a huge nuisance with his psuedo-instruments. His parents decided to give him piano & guitar lessons for his birthday and ever since he had been playing both instruments, really inspiring to create an album one day filled with his music.
WORST MEMORY It was the last week of freshmen year and Derek was about to ask his girlfriend of three months to come with him for the summer, his family was going to Europe for a week and he wanted her to be his tag along. Right before he was going to ask her, she wanted to break up with Derek because she said he wasn't boyfriend material and didn't care for her enough. Since this day, he's had a hard time with commitment.
LONG-TERM GOAL Derek really has two, he wants full and total control of his powers, being able to control electricity was awesome but it was dangerous, random outbursts could kill those who he surrounded himself with, those who he loved.
And his career as a musician, constantly practicing and fine tuning his skills, he wanted to be able to fully pursue his career, whether it be a single act or in a band with others who shared his passion for music.

HISTORY Long, dull and boring is three words that could easily summarize the background of the Bastiene family. Lydia and Christian both attended schools for their elemental prowess, Lydia being the lightning bolt, if you will and Christian take a stubborn role as Earth. They shouldn’t be together considering, but Christian was able to ground out Lydia’s powerful personality and Lydia was able to bring a spark into Christian’s life. They had their rough patches like every family, but their differences kept their love alive and even until this day, they raised all four of their children without any real struggles.
Derek was their second son and child born, his eldest brother Abram, was born with a very earthy connection, with his father’s affinity to earth, Abram grew under his father’s wing really trying to learn how to control his powers. Derek was the second born and as soon as he came out of his mother’s womb, an ear-piercing screech was coming from the little boy and his mother instantly knew he was of her element. A large smile appeared on her face, finally having someone to share her powers with. They grew up a pretty close-knit family, a few miles out of the city so that they could practice their powers without getting caught by any pesky neighbors.
Years later and they all grew into their own little interests, for Derek, he loved music, the arts, swimming and lacrosse. Focusing on these things as he grew up, he really was an all-around sort-of guy who liked to draw, play music and play some sports. It was something about each one that appealed to Derek. Things really went smoothly until he was a freshman in high school, when he went to his new academy.
He began to dorm with other boys and he really felt sexually attracted to both males and females, nothing was wrong with it, but it was something he just had to deal with. Sleeping with both men and women, it was something he was self-conscious about. Telling his mother when he was a sophomore, it was just to let her know, he wasn’t sure whom he’d end up with, but telling his closest parent what he was, he needed her to know. Derek still liked girls, he liked people for people, and that was the problem. People loved hurting poor Derek, growing his incapability to commit to a single person.
Finally as a junior, the boy has really come into his own skin. Knowing what he liked and what he didn’t, Derek was the type of guy who didn’t get into anyone’s way unless someone messed with his life, extremely vindictive, he’d go out of his way to torment this person and make his/her life a living hell. So just a quick word of advice, don’t piss him off and stay out of his way unless you want to be hurt badly by him.

RP SAMPLEHe truly did like this girl, he couldn’t exactly put his finger on her redeeming qualities but he was sure her being, which was a sort of serious comic relief, played a part of what Bec liked about Sparks. Even her name, it was like the igniter of the tribe, he hoped that she wouldn’t scare her off and that they could become close friends. Nothing was more important then friendship, it helped keep everything afloat especially in such a place that they now inhabited. Ironically enough, his thoughts made him pull up a distant memory. These sorts of chaotic living were mocked in books, well rather were explained in books such as the lord of the flies and a book called Gone. Now, this was much more real and scary he tried to remember what they did to attempt to make a suitable living condition for all. ”I do think that we got a catch when it came to this abandoned hotel. As long as we don’t terribly mess it up, we probably have one of the most comfy living quarters for now anyways.” It was a nice small cluster of people, he liked that he knew everyone in his new family, or well would know eventually. Sooner or later more kids would show up and cause an overabundance of people, that’s when the fighting would presume. ”I’ve only searched my room, or well what I claimed my room for now and the room that was connected to it but it doesn’t look half bad. The beds are comfortable and as long as we figure out a way to open all the other doors, we should be set.” here was all the optimistic comments once again, bec would soon realize that this wasn’t one big game and the adults were gone forever. He practically was the adult; he needed to realize that he would never watch television again. The only solitude he would be able to find was in books. Hell, without electricity he could no longer listen to music! Bec remembered about his Ipod that he hadn’t listen to yet, it probably had an hour worth of playing time yet. He would really save that for times where he really needed it.
There had to be a laptop around here somewhere which wasn’t dead yet. He was really being selfish but what else did he have to look forward to? Sooner rather then later would they honestly be screwed, that’s when the real barbaric hunting and gathering would occur. As of right now, we have canned foods and farms that the kids could go harvest, he would have to enjoy that while it lasted. Bec made a small mental note ‘they were civilized weren’t they’? They could make this work; they had to for the small percent of mankind that remained. This always happened, his mind took him into a distant universe that always went to the ‘what if?’ questions in life instead of focusing on the here and now. He forced himself back to the pool filled with green slimy algae and the beautiful young woman who laid next to him, she asked him a question.
”Oh probably. I think I’ll enjoy it out here for now. I mean, relax while you can. He’ll probably find us when he needs us to go find some food or something, maybe a semi-clean water system that we can use before we all die from dehydration.” the jokes he were saying now hit home a little too much, he didn’t mean for it to come off as such a twisted joke but it did. ”I’m good. I ate this morning and I’m surprisingly not that hungry.” it was true, he smashed opened one of the mini refrigerators in his room and tried to salvage what he could, all the things in there were a mixture of alcohol, assorted chocolate candies and water. ”Well, this is between the two of us but, if you wanted alcohol I’d suggest going into any open room you can find and grabbing what you can before we search through it and never see it ever again. We can go do that sometime later today, it would be nice to have a little supply for when I feel like getting wasted.” Sometimes that was the best thing, to let go off all emotion and enjoy the tipsy feeling, although getting wasted always meant a hangover which fucking sucked.
He opened his eyes for just a second, to see what was going on. Bec really didn’t want to be caught off guard and embarrassed, archetypally guys were supposed to protect everyone. Not that Spark needed protection, she seemed like she could handle herself in a fight. ”Sorry about that. Next time I’ll find a way to dispose of the muck and grime so no one has to deal what with you went to. It will probably smell like garbage now, which could be considered a positive thing. People will run away from the smell.” his own little witty comment was only in there for play, maybe if he continued to make jokes that seriousness of this problem wouldn’t cause everyone stress and a massive suicide attempt.
Spark had been so much more in the loop then he was, this was probably because he wasted half of his day sleeping in the hotel and the other half cleaning this freaking pool. He didn’t mind of course but he needed to make sure he wouldn’t be kicked off like this was one twisted game of survivor. ’Goodbye Bec.’ he thought as the image of him getting thrown off a cliff flashed in his head. Bec looked at the girl once again before answering her simple question, ” Oh I just love it here. It’s so amazing and beautiful. I never want to leave, ever.” his tone was full of sarcasm before he said, ”honestly. It could be better. I think we need to take advantage of this place before others come, build something. Get everyone ready. A simple yet effective strategy to keep everyone out of this place. Maybe a huge flag with purple on it and a sign that says ‘STAY OUT’. How are you enjoying this wonderful place? And I like the chandelier. It says ‘we have class and you don’t” as Bec said that he leaned over and gave Spark a playful nudge, he had a feeling that they would be either good friends or partners in crime.
