YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP
"I love you, sis." Danny's voice whispered, "We're all we've got."
Brynn sighed up at her ceiling, only just realizing she was staring mindlessly at the galaxy she painted when she moved into this dorm. How long had she been lost in that memory? It felt like hours, countless hours of warmth and an inner longer to have a hug from her twin brother. They had been standing on a grassy hill in Paris-- home. Danny had found tons of butterflies fluttering around in the air and he had raced home to grab Brynn so that she could see them. She could still remember all the colors, the way the wings flapped and the delicate hue of summer sunshine in the sky. There were always good times when the twins were together. The thought of Danny even now still brought a heavy weight on her chest. Brynn could feel wetness welling up at the corners of her eyes.
"Oh get a grip! " she mentally gasped, throwing herself out of bed and balling her fist with determination, " You gotta be happy, you promised Danny!" Yes, much better, she felt like a hero in a Japanese anime now. Brynn headed over to her mirror, flipping the light switch with an air guitar motion and pointed to herself in the mirror. " Yeah, you're not upset, you're just a little emotional, right? RIGHT!?[/i" her reflection just blinked just as she did. She looked so young, long wavy brown hair that she refused to straighten. It was wild, untamed like her personality. Her hair made her look like a little girl, so she gave her hair a tousle, disrupting the already wild waves, and flashed herself a smile, "Baby, you are a rock star." she told herself and retreated back into her room. If she could talk the other girl's in the dorm would think she was more looney than she already was. Thankfully, she couldn't even speak, so her crazy thoughts were her own until she decided to share them. Brynn snatched up her hot pink ipod (complete with nyan cat and 8-bit star stickers and cotton candy blue ear buds with rubber red gummy bears attached to the earpiece.) and hopped into her vans, satisfied with her childish outfit of dark blue ripped shorts an over sized Wreck It Ralph shirt and her favorite shoes. Now what, she was dressed with no where to go. What exactly WAS she getting dressed for? " Crap, I never figure these things out..." Poppy muttered to herself, her crystal eyes lingering on the dancing tree outside her window. " Oh!" she smiled suddenly and rushed out of her bedroom, making sure to high five "Like A Sir" Hello Kitty on her way out. " I'm gonna go to the woods, listen to anime, and climb some trees, I bet the tree flowers look great today!" Just before Brynn reached the stairs she froze, complete TV tag style, she was forgetting something, something important.... her notebook. With an awkward twirl on her heel, Brynn retreated back into her room and looked over the clutter of art supplies on her desk. In the middle rested a small Nyan Cat notebook with a sushi pen stuck in the spiral. Now how could she leave without that? Didn't she want to talk to people? Honestly, she needed the thing like she needed air. Could you imagine if Brynn Vidal had no paper? She would have nothing to say. She would have to play a funky game a sharades for people to even understand her. With a wicked smile she snatched up the notebook and scrolled through her ipod, selecting the Highschool of the Dead opening and heading out. The air was warm outside, and the sun was high, Brynn could already imagine the push look of the petals in the trees. Heading to the woods was a past time for her. She and Danny found this spot their second week at school and had been visiting the flowers every day after school. There was a tall tree there that she could climb and get a great close up view of all the flowers. She liked to call it her happy place. It was shocking even to her that she hadn't been there once this whole start of the year. Maybe that was because Danny wasn't here anymore. By the time she reached her destination, her ipod had started playing Simple and Clean by Utada Hikaru. Brynn felt like a hero again, like she herself was floating in liquid space like Roxas when he was flying through the sky. She grabbed onto the first branch a sweet smile spreading across her lips as if she felt more natural here than ever. Brynn began to climb up, an epic song playing in her ears and a longing to suck up the beauty of the flowers. That was when Brynn grabbed the wrong branch, too mentally invested in her adventure and the music to realize the branch was too thin for even her insignificant weight. Her baby blue eyes widened and everything after felt like slow motion, gravity slowly bringing her back down and the scream barely forming and escaping through her lips.[/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - status: COMPLETEtagged: tis open for minglingwords: enough!outfit: POLYVORE, BBY.notes: not todaaaay.lyrics: FIREFLIES, OWL CITYcredit: TEMPLATE BY SHAZI ?! c'est le perfect crime,
Fox seriously needed something to occupy himself. Of course, there was that essay on the causes of the Cold War due in just a few days (which he had yet to write) but that was really not what weekends were for. Weekends, he thought, were for eating dessert for breakfast, executing pranks, and spending some well deserved time getting into all sorts of adventures in the woods. Since everyone interesting was in town today and he did not fancy visiting home - though he did need to do a load of laundry - he decided it was probably a good day for a visit to the woods. Maybe that essay would magically write itself while he was gone.
A short shower and a few quick strokes of a brush through his hair and he was wide awake. He was slowed down momentarily, standing in front of his closet with a day old doughnut in hand, trying to figure out if October was still too early to wear Christmas sweaters out in public. After much internal debate he decided he'd better not risk it, and instead threw on a simple blue coat over the galaxy tee he'd just picked out. Then came his favourite part; socks. People though it quite odd, which was perfectly fine with him, but he loved unusual socks more than Christmas sweaters, which was really saying something. Today his Dalek socks won out over all the others, which he thought was quite fitting, considering the astronomical nature of his shirt. On the way out he grabbed keys and the last left over doughnut, tactfully 'forgetting' his phone. Not that there was likely to be service in the forest anyways.
The walk from Fox's dorm to the woods wasn't an incredibly long one. He didnt have to march down tons of flights of stairs just to get to ground level, like some other element's students. In fact, he could see the trees through the ceiling of the common room. Navigating through the dungeons would mean for anyone else use to the dead ends and pit falls about a ten minute walk to the edge of the forest. Somehow that's never how it worked out for him. Fox still had to walk through territory shared with fire students, and that could pose some problems. Half the time he'd have to wait a few minutes in the shadow of the common room doorway before he could enter into the corridor, to avoid running into a Fire student he'd vexed with a prank a couple days before. Other times he could walk right past these kids without them knowing he'd been the one to stuff toads in their lockers, but that would always set him laughing at their cluelessness, which could result in the same kinds of reactions. For Fox, there was a lot of ducking into doorways and behind pillars on his way out of the dungeons, just to avoid getting fried.
Once he reached ground level (and stopped in the cafeteria for a breakfast burrito) Fox headed out towards the trees. It was pretty warm for October, which meant he could probably stay in the forest for a good couple hours before he got too uncomfortable on the rough branches.
The trees were the perfect amount of springy today, which Fox always thought was funny because it usually happened in autumn. Leaves were falling off the trees, making a colourful rainfall as you walked or climbed through them. The occasional rainfall of the season meant that the branches were especially spry and easy to hold onto. All in all, it was his favourite time of the year for his favourite pastime.
The ground at the edge of the woods started green, but several steps in and everything was suddenly spotted with flashes of red yellow and orange. Fox oriented himself and looked for a particular fallen tree that jutted up from the earth at a gradual angle. From the high end he could leap to a nearby tree branch about six feet off the ground, and from there he could pick his way carefully through the woods without ever touching the ground. Fox knew it was always best to attempt this when the trees were springy, like today, because otherwise there was always a chance they'd snap under his weight if they were too dry. Now they were much more resilient. He admired resiliency. And trees.
Twenty minutes into his tree parkour Fox heard the unmistakeable sound of another person in the woods. You could always tell, because even the smallest of people made more noise than any animal. Fox held his breath, squatting on a branch ten or fifteen feet off the ground. He scoured the ground, looking for the source of the noise. It didn't occur to him to look above ground level, because most people didn't come to the forest with tree climbing in mind. Not seeing anyone right away made him worry that it might be an enemy student. Maybe they'd already seen him. Maybe they were hiding, waiting for him to come back down to ground level. When a brightly dressed girl fell from a nearby branch several feet below his own, Fox was surprised and relieved. She didn't look very viscous.
He made his way as quick as he could trough the trees and towards the ground. He stopped and stood on a branch five or six feet from the ground to watch the girl. "Hey, are you all right?" He leaned precariously forward, using only a small upper branch to hold himself from falling to the ground a few feet from the girl.

Ouch...
Brynn hit the ground with a surprisingly hard thud, her eyes squeezed shut as the numbing pain sprang up her spine. How far up that tree was she? She didn't have a clue, but it must have been high if she crashed so hard and her body felt so stiff. It was almost scary. "Am I dead...? " she thought numbly. She didn't feel dead. Could you still feel the chill of fall when you were dead? No, right? No, she was still extremely aware, so she had to be alive. Brynn took a moment to check herself over. There was a stinging sensation on her ankle and also on her arm and cheek. Something must have scratched her on the way down-- a couple of branches maybe. She wiggled her toes, noticing that one was tapping something solid and the other was just rubbing fabric. Was she missing a shoe? Holy crap! She began to mentally analyze the pain when she heard a slightly worried voice asking if she was all right. I just fell out of a tree, and I didn't crack my skull open.... let's do it again! Brynn smiled at her own stupidity and slowly opened her eyes. The sun was high above her and little black sprinkles flicked across her vision. She blinked a couple of times, finding a boys face in her vision. He looked vaguely familiure to her, where had she seen him before? Brynn blinked at him, her eyes searching wide for the answer to her mental questions. Maybe she had a class with him, but she couldn't remember. Everybody else starts to blur together when you have your own designated group of friends. She couldn't help but smile a bit sheepishly, she probably looked ridiculous but it was too late to change that now. On the bright side, she got to wake up to something nice. Brynn liked his face, he had a nice timeless face like most movie stars. Maybe he was into theater? He looked perfect for it. Wait didn't he ask her a question? Her big blue eyes seemed to get wider, if that was even possible, with shock that gave her a very young looking expression. She sat up quickly-- a little too quick as she placed a dirty hand against her forehead. A light sigh escaped her lips and she reached into her pocket for something.... that wasn't there? Brynn frowned and looked down at her shorts. They were empty of any contents. She blinked and looked around suddenly frantic. Where was her notebook!? Brynn stood up and bit her lip awkwardly, eyes searching and looking nothing but lost. Just a few feet away against another tree, Brynn could see a nyan cat notebook on the ground, propped open with it's pink pages blowing in the wind. She smiled and took a step towards the notebook, only to faceplant into the ground. What the heck! Brynn looked back at her feel, seeing a curly vine wrapped around her ankle. Wow... so she could do it. Part of her was excited that her powers were coming along, but she was also a little mad. Her attempt at saving herself was so delayed that it should be a crime. She sighed then and looked up at the boy. She pointed out to her notebook then pretended to write on her hand as if trying to tell him something. She only hoped that was enough for him to realize she needed the notebook... or maybe that he knew her and knew she was a mute. c'est le perfect crime,
Fox really wasn't sure what to do in this situation. What if she was, like, actually injured? He knew which way school was, but it was about a ten minute walk back on foot, which could be doubled if it turned out she had sprained her ankle or something. Of course he'd walk her back, but it'd be a pretty unconventional way of getting to know someone. Though, looking back, Fox realised he'd had more than his fair share of unconventional meetings. A decent number of them even happened in the woods, which made sense, seeing as it was where he spent nearly half his time. However, so far they had never involved any serious injury. He hoped that wasn't about to change.
When the girl didn't reply right away he jumped from the tree to a rock at the base of it's trunk. From there he could see she was missing a shoe, had a couple of scratches, but all together looked alright. He hoped. Fox noticed a black shoe sitting precariously on the edge of the same rock he was standing on. For a moment he didn't believe it was hers, since the rest of her belongings seemed to be exploding with colour. He looked back to the girl, now sitting up and looking around, and saw that it was in fact hers. He bent down to pick up the out of place shoe, and when he looked up again she was on her feet. That was a good sign.
What wasn't a good sign was the frantic look in her big doe eyes when she stood up. What if she'd hit her head and forgotten where she was? That would be an interesting way to meet someone. Fox looked down at the shoe in his hand. 'Oh! Maybe she's worried because her shoe disappeared.' Before he could hold out the shoe for her to take back she had fallen again, right on her face. Fox covered his mouth to stop himself from laughing. He didn't mean to, but someone falling - anyone falling - was kind of funny. Maybe she wouldn't hear. Or wouldn't mind.
Fox thought she looked like a deer. Or like she got lost a lot, and he wondered if maybe she had directional skills (or a lackthereof) similar to Nell, and maybe she was in the tree looking for a glimpse of something distinguishing to give her a sense of direction. Fox always imagined whole personalities for people based on his first impression. It probably wasn't the best habit, and sometimes he created this whole life for them that turned out to be utterly untrue, but he was imaginative, what could he say? If she was up in that tree looking for somewhere to go, judging from the place she fell, she was looking in the exact wrong direction. So maybe that idea wasn't quite right.
Fox followed the girl's eyes as she turned to look at what could have tripped her. There was no denying, he was slightly relieved when he noticed the vine wrapped around her ankle. It also brought him to the conclusion that she was probably an Earth student. Neat. Fox was admiring her work - though a little late if it was an effort to save herself from falling - when he noticed her jesturing. 'That's right, she still hasn't said anything.' Just then he realised what she was pointing at, and it clicked in his mind. He was pretty sure he'd heard something a while back about an Earth student who couldn't speak. Of course, this must be her. Fox tossed the girls shoe in the air and caught it again as he walked to gather up her (incredibly bright) notebook and... Sushi pen. Interesting.
With unbearably cute writing set in hand he headed back to where the girl was still sitting. With one hand he held out her shoe, and with the other her notebook. Once all were returned to their rightful owner he sat back down, leaning against the boulder he'd been standing on a moment ago. "I think your vine rescue skills might need a bit more work."
