lovin' is what i got LIFE IS WHAT I GOT, IT'S WITHIN MY REACH [/style] [style=font-size:11px; line-height:10px; margin-bottom:10px; margin-left:30px; padding-right:3px; text-align:justify; width:450; font: verdana;]Felix had the feeling that his mother did not approve of all the work that he took on. Maybe it was in the way her jaw set as she watched him leave with the dogs. Or maybe it was the she yelled at him twenty times before that he should be focusing on school. She may not have been yelling, but it sounded like that to him. Maybe nagging would have been a better choice of words. Either way, as much as he wanted to please her, he also needed the money. And he was innovative. This way he would be self-employed, he chose his own hours (mostly), and he was his own boss. The Fire boy thought it incredibly wise of him.
However, he did sometimes realize that he took on too much. Such as today, walking three larger dogs at once. He wanted to squeeze in as much as he could, and though the cleaning up was horrendous, he had money on his mind. The weather was warm enough that he didn't mind the walk, especially since he had a light sweater on. The only problem was when one would get ahead of the rest, and he tripped over his feet. "God I need to work out," he mumbled, having discredited the idea by the time the last word left his mouth. Working out sounded like hell to him. He didn't even like sports. Or moving. Or anything that required him to move his feet. Dog walking was his exercise.
When he made it to the park, he realized he was in over his head as he saw other people walking their animals. His shoulders sagged for only a moment, because once one of them felt the leash go lax, it tugged hard and took him along with it. "Hey, no," he said sharply, sighing as he continued walking. It only got worse from there, however, as he quickened his pace and the dogs decided that meant he must want a light sprint. He sped up to keep up with them, panting has he dragged them to a stop.
He thought of one of the only things he could do and wrapped the leashes tight around one hand as he took his phone out and pulled up a contact, calling one of his buddies. "Toby," he called. "I need help, come to the park, man!" Before he could even hang up, the dogs were pulling at him again and he was saying, "No, no, no, no...." Before dropping the phone, cursing, and picking it up to end the call. It wasn't at all odd for Felix to be freaking out, but he hoped that he left the impression of urgency.

There was something about picking apart a sandwich that held a certain level of entertainment, even if people passed by staring at him like he was a hobo who managed to get enough money to buy food and then nitpicked everything like it wasn't good enough. Well they weren't too far off the mark except he wasn't a hobo. Toby mumbled to himself, bitching about how they didn't get his order right. Again. "You'd think with how often I come here..." He mumbled, allowing the sentence to trail away as he finished the rant in his head. Stupid tomatoes. Stupid mustard. Without caring that others might be watching, he grabbed a napkin and wiped the mustard off of the bread before stacking everything back up again. It was no work of art but at least now it was edible.
Just as Toby opened his mouth to take a bite, his phone went off. For a second he considered letting it go to voicemail--after all, this was food and he was hungry--but decided it couldn't hurt to see who was nagging him now. He yanked the phone out of his pocket and saw a familiar name. "Hyello," He answered lazily, flipping the sandwich back and forth in his hands. Ugh, what a disappointing meal. "This better not be you recruiting me for backup on a drug deal gone bad or something," The guy sighed and sounded exasperated but he was already standing up from the table. The food wasn't all that appealing now anyway so nothing was keeping him from going to see Felix. Unaware that his friend was walking three oversized canines he found himself blinking in confusion when he said 'no' about four or five times before hearing static and then silence. Deciding to go ahead and finish the conversation on his own, he said, "Yeah, sure Felix, I'll be there in about ten minutes. I'll talk to you when I get there. Okay, bye."
Satisfied, he shoved the phone back in his pocket and headed out the door, dumping the food before doing so. The park wasn't too far from where he was at so Toby walked at a semi-fast pace, wondering what it was his friend needed. Maybe just a good push on the swing or something.
The park came into view soon enough and he could see the mass of people doing what they normally did on a comfortable afternoon. Ugh, large crowds. At least they were all occupied with playing sports or reading a book or walking a dog--oh. Toby rounded a tree and could see Felix across the patch of grass with those three dogs leading the way rather aggressively, the Fire looking less like the walker and more like the walkee. He was amused but still tried to catch up to Felix. The laughter wasn't exactly a muffled chuckle. "Dude, did they pay you to let them drag you around? Hope it was a good chunk of cash because otherwise..." He shook his head and kept pace with Felix, not even considering to take a leash out of his hands at first. They had yet to talk about why he was initially summoned to the park anyway. "Maybe you should just go limp. See what they do."

lovin' is what i got LIFE IS WHAT I GOT, IT'S WITHIN MY REACH [/style] [style=font-size:11px; line-height:10px; margin-bottom:10px; margin-left:30px; padding-right:3px; text-align:justify; width:450; font: verdana;]As Felix had the mishap with his phone, he didn't know whether Toby would come or if he would just shrug and hang up. Desperately hoping for the former, he tried his best with the dogs. So he wasn't a total pipsqueak...even though he was pretty short...and had little muscle to speak of. I deserve this, he thought as the lab continued to yank him along like he was just a stick attached to the leash. This was a message from the powers that be. Work out. Eat better. Those things didn't sound very fun to him at all, but it was at least better than being pulled around by some hounds. He loved dogs, that's why he was doing this, but damn if it didn't make him want to just sit home and do absolutely nothing. It didn't sound too bad, actually.
He did a double take as he heard some amused noises coming from who else but the lovely Toby, charming and wildly carefree. Felix shouldn't have been exasperated with the guy who went out of his way to come here, but how rude. He would have believed that someone else he would have phoned would be more respectful toward him, but that was a complete lie because they were his friends and that's what friends did. Laughed at his misfortune. "You're so funny," he said flatly to the Thunder boy's words, handing off the leash to him as Toby reached for it. He straightened out a little, reigning them in a little as they tried to run off again.
Completely overreacting to the situation, he sighed. "Rip my arm off?" he replied when Toby told him he should go limp. It was not a theory he wanted to test out, lest they escape and he went running around the park to go retrieve them. Then he would look even more like an idiot. "Thanks for coming, though, kind of...uh...took on a lot," he said, heading back on toward the path and rolling up a sleeve. "What were you doing before the beasts from hell tried to kill me?" he asked, tugging at the leash before they could hurry off again. If he was doing anything important, Felix may have had it in him to feel just a little bad about it. Just a little. He wasn't exactly tops when it came to empathy, even though he did like his friends. He surrounded himself with some pretty awesome people, people who helped him out on the job. Hell, he might even split the money for today.
