POSITIVE TRAITS
- Cool Tempered: It really takes a lot to get River angry enough to show it.
- Open Minded: River puts forth a constant effort not to judge people or hold any kind of stereotype.
- Tactful: Although there is a lot that gets under Rivers skin, she tries her best to act appropriate for the situation.
NEGATIVE TRAITS
- Emotional: Although River tries her best to put on a brave face for people a lot upsets her and she breaks down quite often once she is alone.
- Introverted: River prefers to spend time alone and enjoys her quiet time.
- Low self esteem: River has little faith in her abilities but continues to try if only for the fact that she enjoys it.
LIKES
- Music: River listens to a variety of music though she prefers instrumental and nature based music since it's the most relaxing and inspiring. Not that she would tell her friends from back home that.
- Writing: River enjoys fiction writing and every step of it's lengthy process. Her plans before the academy were to go to college for creative writing and writing to publish programs.
- Drugs: Not having the artistic hand of her mother or the drive of her father, River uses soft drugs as an escape to a place where she can be comfortable with herself. She also believes it helps with her writing.
- Art: Although she isn't good at creating it, River enjoys watching her mother paint and enjoys admiring different art mediums.
- Space: Not only are the moon and stars amazing inspiration, the idea of a never ending existence that could hold any number of truths and realities really fascinates her.
DISLIKES
- Being busy: River prefers having her time to herself to use as she sees fit. She doesn't do well with schedules or plans made too far in advance.
- Winter and rain: The cold and wet ground means River is trapped in her house instead of being outside.
- Crowds: River is introverted so she prefers to be alone or in small groups. Crowds make her uncomfortable.
- Being rushed or nagged: River prides herself on getting things done on time her way. It's aggravating for her to have someone remind her there are things to be done or that she is running out of time on something. She knows.
- Rumours: Weather it be about someone she knows or a complete stranger River will always do everything in her power to stop them in there tracks.
STRENGTHS
- Gardening:Simply put, River can make anything grow.
- Creativity: Be it poems, short stories, songs or novels, River can certainly put pen to paper and make it unique and captivating.
- Prioritising: Although it never appears like she is doing anything, River has a mature sense of what is important and manages to get everything done.
- Spirituality: River is strongly spiritual. Although she is not a member of any organized religion her faith in what she does believe is unshaken.
WEAKNESSES
- Art: Although she is creative, River just can't seem to get a handle on visual arts like sculpting and painting.
- Cardio: She may have muscles from digging in the garden and climbing trees but she can't run for more then a few moments without getting tired.
- Disorganised: No matter how hard she may try, River can't seem to keep her room, notes or personal space organised.
- Perfectionism in work: River would rather do things over and over then have something less then perfect. It often gets in the way of personal projects getting done at all.
- weakened powers: Due to her very late entry into the academy, River's powers are underdeveloped compared to the rest her age group.
FEARS
- Failure: River constantly worrys about not being good enough and ideas of failure can be very overwhelming for her.
- Death: River isn't personally afraid of death, but she does fear what would happen to her sister if she were to pass away.
- Fire: Working with nature and paper it's no surprise fire makes her uncomfortable and even frighten her if there's enough of it.

HISTORY
River was born to Haley Stone and Stanley Fox in their home early one summer morning. She grew up in there isolated cabin that was built on the edge of a rather large wood near a lake. Being in such a secluded area meant River learned to entertain herself over the long summer hours. She taught herself to climb trees and fish. River’s mother Spent the long afternoons painting and for the most part her father was not around, always on some business trip. When River was 5 years old her baby sister Rain was born. As the girls grew up their parents relationship began to crumble, but it made the girls closer. River felt a duty to care for Rain since their parents had a bad habit of being too caught up with their own issues to focus on their children’s.
One night, when River was about 10 years old the fighting had gotten to a horrid point that made everyone stop and realise something was very wrong. A sculpted vase went through a window and everyone went to bed crying that night.
Not even a few days after that though there father was put on anti anxiety medication to help him control his stress. Things went back to the way there were before Rain was born. Their father began to work less and began connecting with his wife and children again.
Luckily the two sisters stayed close. They tried their best to be there for each other in the best and worst of times.
River’s powers first started surfacing when she was 14 years old. Haley explained what she could about their history to her daughter as well as the academy but convinced her daughter that she could do a much better job of teaching her how to control her powers then any old school could. Unfortunately nothing the women tried could help, she just didn’t have the experience to teach her daughter much. River got mixed up with the wrong crowd at school and began drinking and doing plant based drugs. Her writing took off around that time but it felt like in one short year her entire life was turned upside-down. Even her relationship with her sister suffered since she was just too young to understand what was going on as hard as she did try.
As Rain has reached the age of 11 their mother decided to sit her down early and explain to her the possibility that she may develop powers in the next 2-3 years. She also explained that she had gone to the academy and now that River's powers were beginning to get out of control the school had found them through her, that meant that she would be away over the school years now. With Rain in the loop it allowed the two sisters to bond and become close again. That last summer together they promised to be together forever, determined to always live within walking distance from each other and be there no matter what. Any time they were normally separated was traumatic, they counted on each other. This made the first month or two at the Academy extremely difficult for Rive. She was alone in a new part of Canada with no idea how to function. Because of her late starting she was in the grade behind the rest of the students her age. Her grades were as low as her mood. Eventually she was able to meet a few people with the teachers’ assistance in some of her classes. They helped her break out of her shell and helped her find a couple of reliable sources that knew how to sneak illegal things on to campus.
Today she has a couple of close friends, a steady source of money from her parents and gets weekly hand written letters from her sister. They had always felt the letter had something special to it and didn’t want the art to die. She spends her days daydreaming for when her sister turns thirteen in two years and they can see each other at school. For that reason alone she plans to continue post secondary at the academy.

SECRET WORD Correct
RP SAMPLERiver breathed deep welcoming the smoke into her lungs. As the effects began she rested her head on the tree that was supporting her. She was stretched across on a branch more than a few feet up, it was her favourite branch in her favourite tree. Far enough away from the house so she could be alone but not so far in that she would be unable to find her way back if she became too intoxicated. Even though she had mentally mapped every inch of the woods, on dark nights, if your brain was fried enough it was pretty easy to lose your way.
River could feel herself rising as she inhaled the smoke once more before putting the ember out and carefully returning the joint to her bra where it would be safe. As she did this she heard footsteps from close by.
“Rain is that you?” River asked sitting herself on the branch so her legs were dangling over the edge. A young face appeared from behind one of the old trees. A girl in a pink top and green shorts, that really didn't match showed herself.
“Are you high?” The young girl asked her sister looking up into the tree. River nodded and motioned for her sister to join her in the tree. The little girl climbed to a branch where she could sit facing her sister.
The two sat in silence for a few moments neither really knowing what to say. Despite their mother’s best -though a little misguided- efforts the academy had found there little family. River was set to leave early the next morning. She was all packed and ready, all there was left to do was count down the quickly passing minutes until their lives were ripped apart at the seams.
“River, I don’t want you to go.” Rain sighed trying to hold back her tears. River reached out to her sister and smiled.
“Think about it rain drop, once I’m gone this is all yours. The forest and the lake, you can finally sit in my smoking branch.” River tried to sound light hearted but a tear still found its way down her sisters cheek. The older sister jumped from the branch landing in a clump on the forest floor. Quickly gathering herself she began to head deeper into the forest. Her sister followed without question.
The two walked side by side knowing it would be there last night together in a while. There pace quickened and turned into a run and it wasn’t long before Rain recognised where her older sister was taking her. When Rain became old enough to start trying to be like her sister, River and her had found a special place deep in the forest that only they knew how to get to. They had built a little fort and a special hiding place for all the stuff they didn’t want their dad to find. They hadn’t been in months.
“Can we sleep here tonight?” Rain asked making herself comfortable on the fort floor they had worked so hard on all those years ago.
“That’s the plan!” River said going into the hiding spot and getting out some pop rocks candy.
The two munched and talked as if it were any other day. They laughed and played with the games that had been left all this time, protected by their shelter for what seemed like an eternity.
As twilight swept across the sky, claiming the blues and the oranges of the summer day, the two sisters sat wide awake no longer able to pretend this was a normal day.
“You know Rain drop” River began, “You’re probably going to be joining me next year. We've all seen your little aqua outbursts.” She said taking a sip of the red liquor contained within the glass bottle she had hidden away.
Rain sighed “Can I try some?”
River shrugged and handed the bottle to her sister who could barley swallow a sip. She laughed at the face her little sister made as she passed the bottle back.
The two spend the rest of the night in silence though neither one could sleep. They just watched the stars and enjoyed each other’s company. Although both wanted to cry neither did. They both wanted to look strong for the other; there would be plenty of time to cry tomorrow night. Eventually the sun broke through the darkness signalling the girls they should probably head back to the house. They returned there drinks and candy to the secret compartment and headed back in silence where they would say goodbye.
