HISTORY
Leopold was the result of a night of alcohol, drugs, and reckless abandon. Laura was at one of her hippie gatherings, dancing under the moonlight and talking around a campfire. She never did find out how Jason ended up there that night. He grabbed her a beer and the next thing she knew they were in her tent. They dated for about fifteen months. Leo was six months old and Laura was starting to realize that Jason wasn't the man she'd thought he was. He had a terrible temper, was prone to violence, was a compulsive liar, and had no sense of responsibility.
Laura demanded Jason leave and stay out of Leo's life. She didn't want him taking after his father. She wanted him to become someone worthy of respect and deserving of love. Seemingly Jason did leave. What Leo never knew was that every year, twice a year, Jason returned. Usually he came back to beg Laura to take him back, saying he just needed to pay off some debt before they could be 'happy together' again. Laura wasn't stupid. She knew that Jason was probably trying to get drug money. So, she refused him, sent him away, usually to his assurance that she couldn't possibly live without him.
Leo grew up. He loved, respected, cherished his mother. She became his whole world. When Leo was thirteen he proudly applied for the Academy. He had always known he'd be an elemental. His mother was an Earthie and his father was a Fire elemental. Of course, Leo didn't know about the Fire part. When his powers came in Leopold was ecstatic to find that he was an Earth elemental like his mother. Every Sunday Leo would walk down from the Academy to his mother's house in Maple Hollow. One Sunday he walked home to find his mother arguing with a man.
From what they were saying Leo realized two things. Firstly, he realized that the man must be his father, whom Laura had only mentioned in passing. He also realized that the man, his father, was very angry. He was threatening to burn down their home if Laura didn't give him 'what was rightfully his'. He kept trying to push past her into the house. Leopold also noticed that Jason's hand kept trying to sneak up his mother's dress. Laura was trying to stay calm, determined to keep Jason out of her clothing and her home. Unfortunately, Jason was much stronger than Laura and he pushed his way into the home finally.
Filled with rage Leo rushed past his mother, screaming that the man get out of their home. The man laughed at him and asked how a little boy like him was going to make a grown man do anything. Laura had rushed in to try to convince Leo to stay out of it and Jason snatched her, clutching her tight to him. Fire blazed around his other hand and he was talking about leaving 'beautiful burn marks' on Laura. Leopold became warm with anger. He felt the ground under their wood cabin tremble. Laura's spider vine in the kitchen rapidly grew toward Jason. More vines grew up through the cracks in the hardwood floor. They wrapped around Jason's arms, legs, and, eventually, his throat. As the vines tightened Jason started screaming. The vines...the vines...the vines!
Leo caught a glimpse of his mother and knew she would want him to let Jason go. As Jason fell down and as he rushed passed Leo to go out the door he pushed him with his hand, which was still blazing. Leo fell to the floor as Laura screamed. Leopold spent a week in the hospital and still attends therapy, both physical and mental, to deal with the consequences of that day. He suffered from a localized third-degree burn on his body. The fire ate threw his skin right down to the bone. The flesh never grew back. There's two three by one and a half inch sections of third-degree burn area. Leo has very little use left of his left arm and suffers immense amounts of pain in his left chest area, where the burns were located. Leo and his mother decided not to press charges against Jason. However, an ongoing investigation was started by British Colombian law-enforcement. Leo and his mother may be called to testify if Jason is ever found and convicted. Leo was not suspected of anything because there was no evidence of his vines.
Now Leo is a Senior in high school and he's determined to make his mother proud and to prove to her that he's nothing like Jason. Leopold knows that Laura is slightly afraid of and for him. In that moment when he attacked his father he was like Jason. He was exactly what his mother didn't want him to be. Leo knows that if his follow Earths know about his physical, emotional, and mental weaknesses they may not want him to lead them. So he does everything he can to try to hid his weaknesses.

HOW'D YOU FIND US? Caution
SECRET WORD Correct.
RP SAMPLEThe sky was an explosion of brilliant colors. Her brilliantly yellow and ash flecked eyes could see more colors than she could count. There were hues of blues, purples, pinks, reds, oranges, and yellows. These colors went from blue to yellow the closer the sky was, or seemed to be, to the sinking fiery orb that was the sun. It was as if a divine painter had lovingly swirled the colors together. That was a nice thought. It pleased her to think of the vast and gorgeous sky as a vast and gorgeous canvas. An ever changing canvas. Somehow that made it seem even more precious, more divine and holy. It was almost godly and she could understand why the prides in her homeland had believed in a sky spirit. She had never had time to think of such religious blather. She was more of a cause and effect type of feline. That was what kept you alive, not old beliefs about ancestors and spirits. Still, she understood why they had clung to their beliefs in these times of change.
Unfortunately, the sunset was an omen. A beautiful omen, but an omen none the less. What sort of omen one might ask. An omen that night was soon to come and with it the time for rest. Being a Caracal cat Emaleah could see much better at night than most animals. In fact, she was nocturnal. Oddly enough this very nocturnal feline was traveling through Evergreen Pass at sunset. She had been traveling since sunrise that morning. The reason for her backward sleep schedule flew above her. At that moment she looked up to see the white-necked raven that flew above her. She had to stop for a second in order to see him, because he flew directly over her. He seemed so graceful up in the air. Probably because of the simple fact that he was graceful in the air. On the ground? That was an entirely different story.
Levi! It's going to get dark soon. Would you mind finding us a den, dear? Ema called up to her dear friend. Of course, Miss Rayne. I'll return swiftly for you. A smile danced across her face for a moment as Levi flew off to find their desired object. Emaleah decided to stay put until he returned. She sat down, grimacing as she did so. They had just come from the Nix mountains. Winter had hit with a vengeance, angered by the intrusion of spring, summer, and even fall. It's grasp was tight on Abner; very, very tight. The mountains had been cruel to her and her beloved friend. As they had moved through Evergreen Pass Emaleah noticed that the snow lessened. Unfortunately, this difference was very slight. The snow simply loved Abner. This simply made their journey a little more difficult. Ema liked a challenge though. Everything was more worthwhile the harder it was to obtain. Every step she took was a step to a strong self and she had to say that that appealed to her.
Still, the harsh winter made her rather worried. Emaleah was from Africa, as her ancestors were. Africa was not Abner. She simply wasn't built for the cold. All of her weight was muscle, not much fat to keep her warm. On top of that her fur was very short in length. That meant she did not have the extra fur to keep her warm. And as if all of this weren't enough, she had very light colored fur. This meant she would not be able to harness the sun's rays to be used as warmth. Now she wasn't complaining. She appreciated her body. She had the same lithe, graceful, exotic, and elegant body that her ancestors had, which she saw as a great honor. It simply meant that she had to be very careful when traveling in these lands. She was also worried about Leviathan, who had not complained once about the cold. Still, she was sure it was hard on him too. They simply could not keep traveling like this. They were going to have to figure something else out. Otherwise she feared they may not survive this terrible winter and it's even more horrible wrath.
Her morbid thoughts were interrupted by the familiar sound of Leviathan's call. She obediently turned her gaze up to the sky, which was getting darker with every passing moment. Emaleah rose gracefully to her paws, her short tail twirled peacefully in the air. Anyone observing her now would think she had not a care in the world. Only those who knew her very well could have known. And there were few who knew her that well. Actually, there had only ever been one, Leviathan, who now landed bravely in the snow next to Emaleah. It was a good thing he hadn't seen her whilst such thoughts had rolled in her mind. She decided, in that moment, that she would let him sit upon her back while they traveled to the den he had, hopefully, found. Miss Rayne, I found a perfect den. It's big enough that I think you can get far enough away from the snow to get warm and it isn't very far from here.
Ema smiled kindly at the black and white bird. Then she walked over to him and gave him a sweet little lick to the top of his head. He quietly murmured his thanks and it was obvious in his tone that he revered the feline before him. He even bowed generously in her favor. You have done very well, my friend. Here, jump onto my back. You can give me verbal directions to the den while you rest. You have certainly earned it. As she spoke she knelt down so that it would be easier for Leviathan to hop onto her back. Before he honored her request she was once again showered in thanks. This brought a smile to her elegant face. She had never seen such devotion for a person before. She had felt it however and she knew the joy that this devotion could have for a person. That was why she never corrected him when he showed this devotion.
Once this display of devotion and appreciation was out of his system Leviathan boarded his ride, stepping gently and getting comfortable in-between Ema's shoulder blades. An outsider watching this scene would be able to easily see the tension leave that bird the moment he touched that Caracal cat. In fact, he seemed to be immersed in peace. Come to think of it, so did Emaleah. This was strange because she had a terrible fear of being touched. Yet, she felt only peace when this raven touched her. At least, when he did so with permission, which he always did. There was such a strange chemistry between these two that they had the effect of instantaneous peace on one another. It was truly a match made in heaven or a match made in the hands of spirits, if you asked Ema that is.
Thanks to this relationship Leviathan found it very easy to navigate Miss Rayne to the den in question. Ema found that her feathered friend had been accurate in his estimate of the den's size. It was certainly just large enough for them to escape the snow. It still wasn't very large, but it was sufficient. Once her paws hit dirt instead of snow she leaned down. Leviathan hopped off of her, wings flapping to keep him balanced. This is perfect. Wonderful job, Levi. Emaleah smiled at the raven, whose feathers puffed up with pride at her praise. At this point the Caracal cat found a nice little spot up against a wall and turned a few circles, before laying down in a comfortable little ball. I'm going to meditate for a while before sleeping. I suggest you get some rest. We'll need to start out at sunrise as usual.
This was responded to with a cheerful, Yes, right you are, ma'am. Nodding, her smile ever present on her feline face, Ema then rested her head on her paws, closing her eyes. She focused on relaxing every part of her body. She started at her tail and worked up her body slowly until she reached her head. Then she focused on relaxing the finer parts of her face; her cheeks, her nose, her lips, even her whiskers. Once she felt relaxed, she pushed all thought from her mind. She did this by focusing on her breathing, breathing deeply in and out, making her breathe audible, which allowed her to focus on her breathing and nothing else. Within seconds she had achieved a deep meditative state, thanks to years of practice.
This deep thought allowed Ema to quietly search herself. Such an ability, to truly know oneself, was very important for a cat on her own. Especially a cat whose whole life was led in solitude and hiding. In this changing world, where dogs ruled, it was even more important to stick to the shadows. In a fight against a dog of any type she was at a huge disadvantage and would very likely not make it out of such a fight alive. Her very life depended on everything she had learned from her time in Africa. She missed Africa. At least there the worst she had to worry about was droughts. Here she had so much to worry about. What worried her the most was that she did not know this land or who lived here.
The next morning Emaleah was awoken by the quiet pleading of Leviathan. Miss Rayne, it's sunrise. She nodded, though it was obvious she had not slept well the night before. However, she was resilient and soon the two were on their way; Ema on the ground and Levi in the air. They had been traveling for only an hour when they came upon a vast expanse of white snow-covered field. It was beautiful and suddenly Emaleah wished she could see this exact field in the spring, when flowers were blooming. As they moved further into the field the Caracal began to pick up a scent. Actually multiple scents. She knew what this meant. This had to be a wolf pack territory. She had run into many of them and knew by now that it was best to leave immediately. This was ridiculous. It was suicide for her to go into a pack territory. Still, this was the only way to ensure that she could continue moving through Abner. If she turned around now she would only be going backward. Besides maybe if she was respectful and explained her situation this pack would be willing to give her and Leviathan a little bit of food. Prey on Abner was certainly not scarce but in the pass it had been a little harder than normal to find food.
She could tell Leviathan knew the situation as well by his nervous glances back at her from his position up in the sky. Still, all it took was one nod from Ema and his confidence seemed to be renewed. The crunch of the snow under her paws seemed ominous. As if the very spirit of the sky wished her to know how serious and suicidal this act of continuing onward was, it began to snow. Within ten minutes it had picked up quite a bit. Though she had been traveling in the north, having just come from the Nix mountains, she was still not used to trying to see in these types of conditions. Leviathan was having some trouble as well, which was evident in his drop in altitude. He must have been having a difficult time seeing. Suddenly Emaleah heard the raven's call and looked ahead of her. She could barely make out a figure coming toward her in the storm. The feline did not hesitate in her steps, but continued moving forward. The snow was sticking to her fur and her body shivered from the cold.
