Thwack.
"Your form is falling. You need to take a break."
Kennedy nodded, taking a step back from the punching bag and heading towards her stuff which was lobbed in a corner. It had been a while since she came down to her dad's work. When she was younger, she would come down to his school and learn all sort of fighting techniques as an alternate way to release her anger without losing her control over her powers. Not that anything was getting her too angry, but her emotions had been so chaotic lately that it was hard for her to focus on schoolwork or any of her normal routine. So, she resorted back to one of the things that she enjoyed doing the most.
Attacking inanimate objects.
The bell above the door rang just as she picked up her water bottle. "Will you get that Kenny?"
Walking at her own pace, she made her way towards the door, drinking some of the water as she did. It wasn't like Kennedy looked too professional going to answer the door. What with her tank top and athletic shorts, her hair mussed and dangling from her ponytail. But she walked with the grace of somebody in charge, meeting the gaze of the person who had walked into the building her family had taken such good care of to create their facilities.
"Hey! What can I get for you?" she asked, taking another drink of water before setting it down on the counter, looking expectantly at their latest customer. At least, that's what she assumed they were. Most people didn't just wander into buildings with people fighting inside for no reason.
ooc: welcome to the academy, please enjoy your stay.

As Shin entered the building, he heard someone walking towards the door. When he looked to see who it was, he noticed that said person was a very attractive girl. "um...yes...hello." He made a deep bow, to avoid looking at her. "I'm looking for the instructor here. I was told that this school was a good place to train in the ancient arts." He stood up once more, taking in his surroundings. When he stood up, though, he dropped a comic book that he had been carrying. It was the most recent X-men comic, and he hadn't really had the time to read it yet. He didn't really notice that he had dropped it yet, though. At the moment, he was focused on getting started on his training.

Kennedy's gaze was met by a smaller looking kid who was probably a freshman in some other Element. While the Beaufort considered herself fairly apt in being able to identify other students, she wasn't very good at it when it came to the upcoming kids from the other Elements. She didn't have any classes with them, hence it was difficult for her to even meet them at all. Which was alright by her. It kept her a little bit more focused, knowing that she could walk down the hall without being called for by everybody she passed.
The boy bowed politely before asking for the instructor. "I would hope that we're the best. We're the only," she explained before Kennedy glancing over her should to call to her father. He had disappeared from the room, however, probably to take a quick break before his next scheduled lesson was to come up. Her attention spun back around as she heard something drop to the ground, a comic book by the looks of it. She smirked. Kenny hadn't read many comics, but she was still a fan of many of the aspects of them. "Seems like he's taking a break," she said easily, leaning against the counter. "But I could give you a tour of the facilities in you would like," she offered, giving a shrug.
She looked again at the cover of the comic that had dropped to the floor. "X-Men, huh? The series still any good?" the Thunder queried, arching a brow at the boy. Small-talk. Something that Kennedy only seemed to be able to do around certain people. ooc: let the fun begin

"Um...yes. The series is quite good actually. To be honest, I bought it recently because it just happened to catch my eye when I passed a nearby book store. I used to read this series a lot in Japan. Though, it wasn't quite as well illustrated there as it is here." Then he took notice of her previous question. "Err...yes...I would enjoy a tour of the facility." Now that he had thought about it, he had been so rude, not even introducing himself. "Oh, sorry, I'm Shin. I'm a new student at the nearby school." There was something about this girl. A shocking aura that she seemed to faintly be giving off. "And judging from your aura, you are also a student, no?"

Hm. The fact that the boy argued that the comic was better illustrated here in Canada was somewhat surprising. It seemed almost the exact opposite of how most people reacted to the comic books that were published here. Personally, Kennedy took more of a predilection towards manga, as the art form was much more tasteful in her opinion. Instead of voicing this aloud, she simply acknowledged his comment. “Well, welcome to Canada then,” she greeted, giving a smirk. It was likely the boy had been here a while, but the least she could do was act friendly.
He assented to her offer for the tour and she gestured for him to follow her as she started towards the room she had come from. He introduced himself as Shin, saying that he was a new student “at the nearby school” which made her laugh lightly. “Kennedy. But you can call me Kenny. Everybody does,” she explained with a tone of humor, turning back and nodding at him. “Eleventh year Thunder,” she finished, watching him evenly to see if she could place where he was from. However, his personality didn’t fall into any of the cookie-cutter personalities that she could place at the moment.
“You’re obviously not Thunder or I would have met you by now, but your interest in fighting makes me think you’re a Fire. Is this correct?” she deduced, halting her steps to turn and look at him. He was either a Wind or Fire with the personality he had thus shown, though a violent Water might have fit him as well. She would find out if she were correct soon enough. ooc: she’s fairly good at calculating stuff like that.

"Um...yes...I do have some affinity towards the fire element. I'm a ninth year." He didn't see any problem with being honest with this girl. "Also, I don't train simply for the sake of fighting. I train...to preserve my father's memory." When the words passed his lips, he stopped. Why, why did I say that?! He thought to himself. For as soon as he thought about his father, it brought him back to that day. The day that everything changed. He could remember it so vividly. But, he wanted to forget it. Forget all the things that brought him pain. He quickly turned away from the girl, lest she see him in his current state. Tears were welling up in his eyes, and he didn't want anyone to see this. He knew that he was no good at hiding things from people, but hoped to at least hide his tears from others.

Kennedy was pleased to know that she had guessed the boy's Element correctly. The boy was new, not fully aware of the customs, which was evident in the ways he talked. He was also not like anybody who the Thunder normally associated with, as he acknowledged that he trained to preserve the memories of his father. She gave a nod but it was evident that the boy had not meant to utter the words aloud as he quickly came to a stop.
The Thunder came a stop, turning back to look at the boy as he turned away and seemed to take a moment to compose himself. She gave an understanding smile, but didn't say anything on the subject. She didn't want him to feel uncomfortable. Instead, she remained quiet and hoped that he would recover quickly. Comforting people was not her strong suit.

With a wipe of his sleeve, the boy composed himself. Then, he asked a question that was probably a predictable one. "There any sand bags in here?" He had a reason to ask this. That reason being that he needed to punch something, and didn't want to harm anyone or do any damage to the property. "I'm sorry that you had to see that, it wasn't one of my best moments." He didn't enjoy having others see him when he was in that state, gave him a bad feeling in his stomach. Besides that, this was his first day here, and he seemed to have already made a bad impression.

There had only been one person where Kennedy had, for lack of a better term, lost her cool in front of them. That is, if you count having a breakdown as the latter instead of lashing out in anger. Otherwise, the Beaufort was rather cold and meticulous, with the occasional joke and humor for those she considered to be her friend. But when it came to emotions such as sadness or weakness, she tended to keep those under wraps. Of course, this person had been the victim of twice seeing her in this state and she still was not aware if they saw her the same anymore.
The Fire appeared to wipe his eyes before asking if they had any sandbags in here. Kennedy cracked a smile, shaking her head. "What kind of facility would we be running here if we didn't have a couple of those?" she pointed out, waving him along to one of the far corners of the vast open space. The brunette figured that she knew what he needed one for and was happy to be able to supply one, but she also was a bit worried. She remembered back when she was a ninth grader and almost anything seemed to send her off the edge with her power. At least her dad had "Element-Proofed" the shop. It would most definitely not still be standing if not.
She waved away his apology. "Hey, don't worry about it," she said easily. Lately, she had been a bit more friendly towards people for reasons almost completely unknown to her. She came up to one of the bags, patting on it as if to both show the boy where it was and as if it were a dog that had been behaving good. "This is my baby. He's one of the oldest in the gym, but I think he'll serve you well," she explained, taking a few steps back from the bag. "Go on, have at it then."

This girl, she seemed to understand Shin better than most. "Hm...you seem like a very nice person." Before directing his attention to the bag, he made another deep bow, out of respect. Then, as he was not about to let this offer go to waste, he started a repetition of a single jab, followed by a 1-2 combo. Each punch left a trail of embers behind it. About twenty reps in, though, something strange happened. He felt something strange in his stomach, and everything was getting blurry. For a few seconds, he felt like he was falling, which he was, until he hit the floor. He was already unconscious by that time though.

Kennedy gave a smile towards the newcomer as he said that she seemed like a very nice person. "Seeming is all I tend to be," the brunette joked, watching as the boy turned to the punching bad and made a bow. Where he had been training in Japan, she assumed, was more on the traditional side. The Beaufort's training facility, while also specializing in the olden arts, had modernized many of the practices to be more effective in real life situations.
She observed his form as he started punching at the bag, his moves quick and precise. Kennedy was used to the thought of powers running away a bit as you did exercises like that, which was evident as the boy produced glowing trails behind his fists as they made their way to the bag. The bag that the younger Beaufort used had seen better days when it came to being hit with elements. But, it had held its own, so much like the owner of the bag that she didn't have the heart to replace it.
She had got caught in her reverie, unable to respond instantly as the boy swayed and crashed to the floor. The Thunder shook her head, giving a slight laugh as she quickly trotted over to a bucket that had various rags and towels hanging above it and grabbing a small mat before returning to his side. When the Fire would awake, his head would be propped up slightly and his forehead covered with a cool rag to help ease the pain of waking from a fall like that.

30 minutes passed without Shin waking up. However, one thing did happen, his breathing became more rapid than usual.

Kennedy returned to the Fire's side just shortly after five minutes. The Beaufort could not remember a time in which she had passed out from overusing her powers. She would get tired or dizzy, but she couldn't recall a time where she had actually lost consciousness. However, she did know a few people who had while their powers settled in. She figured the average was somewhere between five and ten minutes. It was a bit longer than what a professional doctor would say was safe, but they were far from normal people in Maple Hollow.
His pulse was normal, if not maybe a bit fast, at least as far as she could tell. The Thunder scampered off and quickly returned to turn the Fire's head to the side and prop up his feet to help his circulation.
Ten minutes passed. She started pacing.
After fifteen she went searching for her dad. The boy's pulse increased.
Twenty minutes, they called an ambulance. Kennedy continued to pace, her arms clasped tightly and professionally behind her back. She kept throwing worried glances towards the boy who so peacefully laid upon the wooden floor.
Finally thirty minutes rolled around, the Thunder seated on a stack of mats as the paramedics started poking at the Fire to make sure he was alright. They asked her a few questions, which she was quick and blunt to answer, but she remained silent otherwise as she waited for the boy to regain consciousness.

((OOC: most of Shin's lines within this post will be within his mind, and there will be dark/anti shin which is where the differently colored lines will be coming from))
As the paramedics poked at Shin, something strange happened. His eyes snapped open, but without their usual shine. Then his body, driven by a force that one would think was not his own seemed to slowly rise up into a standing position while becoming wrapped in an azure flame. Meanwhile, inside Shin's own mind, he was facing an opponent. This opponent was himself, but it's nature was dark, twisted, and terrifying.
"Who are you?"
The dark being came back with a witty, half-sarcastic reply.
"Who am I? Who are you?"
From the dark one's reply, Shin was certain that this creature born of darkness was something strange, that was a sure thing.
"I am Shin, and where are we?"
The creature seemed to be quite fond of teasing Shin.
"Funny thing, my name is also Shin, as to where we are, well, that's for you to figure out."
This was quite puzzling for Shin, never before had he seen this place of darkness and fog. Then, he took a minute to think it over, and his eyes went wide with surprise.
"So, seems i'm unconscious. And if that's true, then you must be me, or something dwelling within me."
To which the one replied.
"Bingo. I am composed of all your anger, your sorrow, I am your shadow, or rather, the darkness within your heart. Oh, and I got two words for you."
Two words? All that explanation and he only wants to say two words?
"Alright, what are-"
There was a resounding slap which echoed off the walls of Shin's mind.
"Bitch slap!"
This was one of the first times that Shin had been struck by another person. Without even thinking, he responded to the slap with a right straight, which connected and sent the dark Shin back a couple of steps.
While all of this happened within Shin's mind, he seemed to stand still while wrapped in the azure flame, which could harm neither himself, nor those around him.

Kennedy's attention was snatched to form of Shin as he came upright and stood. A blue sort of flame started forming around figure, surprising a lot of the medics at hand. They all seemed a bit tentative about touching him again--guess we don't have any Waters on call--or maybe they just didn't have any control over the Elements in the first place. She took a deep breath, standing up and starting towards the boy. The was no heat radiating from the figure, which confused her enough that she came to a stop.
Kennedy turned to one of the medics, who seemed to be too fascinated by the occurrence. It was definitely something amazing to behold, but she wasn't exactly in the mood to just sit back and watch. Something bad was happening and it needed to be stopped before things went catastrophic. One of the lights in the room seemed to dim for half a second, maybe a trick of the eyes to anybody who saw it, as the Thunder came within an arm's length of Shin. Closing her eyes, she clenched her fist around the current she held. Not enough to kill, or even knock him out, but hopefully enough that it would--for lack of a better term--shock him out of what was happening.
Without allowing herself to think too much about what she was about to do, which used to never be a problem to her, the Thunder pushed the current into the boy's chest. There was no problem for her, being old enough that manipulation was easy, but it still surprised her how far her control had come. All she could do now was wait to see how he reacted, which would hopefully be instantaneous.
