Despite her tiredness, or perhaps due to it, because there was so much on her mind, Kelsey slept restlessly. The first conscious thought she voiced was 'School’s back in sesion.' The second thought, after an appropriate pause: Fuck. Swiping her phone up, she checked the time and disabled today's alarm tone that was due in another three quarters of an hour. Breakfast was served at the Mess Hall from 8 a.m., lessons started at 9. Sometimes, she wasn't sufficiently hungry to crave breakfast, and more often than not, set her alarm at 8 because she literally spent a whole hour showering, dressing, and generally getting ready and fussing over her appearance didn't like being late.
This time, she spent less than half an hour doing all those things, but she wanted to grab something to eat before starting her academic day. It was rather inconvenient that the Fire dorms were weren't on the same level as the mess hall, but then, she shouldn't complain; most of the dorms were spacious, and each student got a bedroom, study area and small bathroom suite all to themselves. Whoever founded and funded this academy must have had a lot of money to spare.
Right, let's see. She looked himself up and down to ensure she hadn't missed a vital part of her daily dress - like her skirt. Crisp white shirt, black silk tie, a black stylized blazer, gold watch on her wrist... (and to clarify, she hadn't forgotten her skirt). In cooler weather, she would have donned a sweater and scarf as well. Not all students took the time to actually look decent these days, preferring to go for a more casual approach, and today she was more of a stickler than usual. She had to look smart on the first day of her last term as a high school student, after all, didn't she? She was officially one step closer to college. She squinted intently at her own reflection in the mirror above her sink, ... knowing that she looked no different today from yesterday. Nothing in her features - the lucid virtue glinting in her eyes, the gentle set of her cheekbones and mouth and eyebrows, the fair and blemishless state of her skin... nothing had changed. Hell, her hormones were messed up anyway. Maybe she really would stay like this forever. Well, obviously not, but the thought was entertaining.
Another thing she hadn't voiced to anyone was her fear of growing old. The deterioration of her mental faculties was not an appealing thought, and though it wouldn't happen for a while yet, soon enough, it would commence. Her mind was precious and needed to be taken care of, even more so than her physical appearance. Either way, she returned to focusing on the physical aspects right now; she brushed at her hair with a hand, first shifting it into her eyes then shifting it out, never really sure how it looked the best. Maybe it was getting a bit long. But then, some girl’s hair were still a bit longer than hers, after all.
Tiring of analyzing herself, Kelsey left her dormitory and made her way to the Mess Hall. As Kelsey Hennessy ascended the stairs towards the kitchen in the Academy, she was slightly perturbed by the lack of general hustle and bustle going on around her. This train of thought was disturbed however when she took the time to actually look around her. Every surface she could see was by the food area was covered with baking racks, all of which were laden with what smelt like freshly baked goods. There were loaves of bread sitting, shortbread and scones along with something that looked kind of like white fudge. Along the back table were about a dozen jars all filled with what looked like raspberry jam, and on the cooker itself she could smell what seemed to be the start of the staff gearing up for the day.
Kelsey normally didn't take time to enjoy a proper breakfast. She usually just ate whatever was closest to her at home. Typical she ate light, a relic of her childhood. Even after her father got a raise and the Hennessy household became more secure, breakfast was a light meal when she was at home. It was the firm belief of her father’s that breakfast was for eating just enough to make it to lunch, and her mother had abandoned the hearty breakfast she once enjoyed along with every other tradition of her family after her marriage.
So like usual, Kelsey settles for something plain, some rye toast and a bit of tea to wake her herself up properly. Coffee held too many risks for Kelsey to trust the substance, and even tea was only consumed when she desperately needed it. Teas, as a rule for Kelsey, was better with honey and without milk. Kelsey very calmly set her spoon down and glared first at the ungodly sounds coming from across the mess hall and back to her tea. While she was lost in her thoughts time must have gotten the best of her as more student came shuffling in for morning breakfast.

Shin was one of the first into the mess hall, or so it seemed. As Shin entered, he took notice of a beautiful blonde haired girl sitting by herself. He quietly retrieved his breakfast, which consisted of a meat bun, and a cup of jasmine tea. He made his way over to the girl, and seated himself across from her.
"I don't think we've been properly introduced. My name is Shin, Shin Tanaka. It's a pleasure to meet you. From your aura, it would seem that we are of the same element. I'm new here, and I don't really know my way around that well."
He slowly sipped his tea, carefully making sure that said action made no sound.
"So, what is your name, if you don't mind me asking?"

A delicate hand flourished over the piece of toast; making sure not a crumb fell onto Kelsey’s lap, brought it to her mouth, and in one fluid motion took a tiny bit of her breakfast. She was a girl of many ambitious goals: good grades, a decent social life, and above all else authority. Those were some of the things that this certain girl did best, especially the latter. The owner of the appendage smirked to herself as her mind reeled with all of the deliciously devious things she had in mind. Alas, today wasn't a day for vengeance, it was a day filled copiously to the brim with important back to school policies. Brown eyes rolled with shear annoyance as the girl's mind filled with these pressing "issues"; being a Leader was far more hassle than she had ever expected it to be when she initialized the job. The pros certainly outweighed the cons, she reminded herself.
Kelsey let her hand still for a moment, dropping the piece of bread as her eyes fluttered shut. Her slender fingers traced the edge of the plate as her hand lifted and gently cupped her cheek, leaning her face casually into the warm palm. Although if anyone would have asked her, the Leader would have quickly denied that she was still tired; she was a strong, powerful, and nearly indestructible force to be reckoned with, she couldn't possibly let her fellow student become aware that, in fact, Kelsey Hanrahan could have moments of weakness.
Moments flickered by as Kelsey let herself rest; her head letting her hand support its complete weight. Fingers played loosely over soft wisps of blonde hair, relaxing the girl further as a quiet sigh escaped from the Leader's lips. Finally, the blonde had reached the realm of daydreaming, but before her mind could settle into the beauteous land her brown eyes shot open at the sound of a soft voice. Her body quickly lifted from her slouched posture, and straightened in her seat with rapt attention. Eyes burned through the intruder as younger boy meandered casually to join Kelsey at her table. For a moment pure, unadulterated anger flowed from the blonde’s stomach and through her veins as her lips pursed tightly. She toned down her initial hard look and listened idly as the boy spoke. My aura? What was this kid, a wannabe physic?
”You’re new here?” Kelsey’s eyes narrowed as she took in the boy’s appearance. Someone was a bit slow on getting this information to her. If he was new, it would explain why he was so bold as to sit with Kelsey uninvited. ”My name is Kelsey Hanarahan,” she said with a bit of pride, ”and if you are a Fire elemental it would be best for you to know I am the elected student Leader for our hotheaded group.” Kelsey mirrored Shin’s actions and took a sip of her own tea before going on. ”Has anyone had the decency to explain to you how things work around here?”

"I see, so you're the student in charge of our element within the school. Sort of like each element having a student council of it's own. And you're the president for the fire element students. As it stands, I haven't really been told much except to show up to my classes and turn my work in on time."
Shin wasn't sure why he was being so honest with Kelsey, but she seemed nice enough.
"So, is there anything specific that I need to know? I'm not exactly too good at figuring things out for myself."
The more he looked at Kelsey, the more beautiful she seemed. At some point, he had to turn his head, in order to hide his blushing face. Then he realized that the gesture was futile, and started plucking the meat out of his bun with his chopsticks.

”President?” she repeated, arching a perfectly manicured brow at Shin. ”More like elected diplomat and rule enforcer. Each element has two Leaders- one male, one female – elected by their peers.” Was Shin really just tossed into this whole mess without some sort fo guide? He was fortunate enough to run into Kelsey in a fairly decent mood. ”And then there are times when I am just a glorified hall monitor,” she said dryly. That had to be the worst task of them all. Patrolling the dungeons and hallways took away from the girl’s studying and social time.
”Go to class, play nice, and don’t mess around with the Waters or Earths. Don’t even talk to them and make my life easier.” she pleaded. Because if you start shit and I hear about it, it’s my ass on the line. Then once I’m done getting properly put down, I find you and make sure you learn your lesson. Kelsey had no time to deal with other people’s problems. Some Fire’s grew out of their temperamental ways or at least gathered a bit more patience over the years, but kids fresh to the Academy could be insubordinate as they get a feel for their new environment. ”I have one semester left as Leader and I don’t want to be remembered as the idiot who couldn’t even let the treaty last for longer than two years.” Kelsey paused for a minute realizing she was coming off a bit harsher than she intended. ”But if one of those carefree lovey-dovey Waters give you trouble, you tell me rather than try and sort anything out yourself. I’ll make sure they are dealt with,” her voice darkened as she thought about reprimanding opposing students. She hated all other elementals –with the exception of Thunder- with a passion.
Her eyes caught the boy’s blush, and as he turned away, her mouth twitched at bit before curling into an all knowing smirk. She knew the effect she could have on people. There was no denying that Kelsey was attractive and if anyone had the courage to ask her she would tell them herself. This was why she spent time in the morning to make sure she looked as perfect as she could be. ”Is it too hot in here Shin?” she teased. ”Where are you originally from?”

"Well, that description of water students doesn't seem at all troubling, but yes, i'll try not to start anything problematic with either group."
He said this, thinking a bit about his place here.
"As to where I'm from, I originally lived in Japan. That was before my powers began to surface. When they did, I finished middle-school, and came here. And, I don't have a problem with heat. It's just...well..you're really attractive. Actually, I was wondering if you had any plans later."
He felt like he had shrunk two sizes while saying this. Still, he had said it, and now was socially required to await her response. His face, however, didn't lose any pigment. If anything, it got even redder.[/font][/i]

”You say that now, but sooner or later the fresh meat always screw up one way or another.” And if it wasn’t an over zealous Fire student, it was a stupid Water student trying to pull pranks on her fellow students. Just because they had an advantage over the fire students, they thought they could shit all over them. They had the audacity to call Fire students smug when they start just as much trouble as the Fire students did. Kelsey’s fists clenched under the table at the thought of them.
”Japan? Long way from home then. Must be different,” Kelsey commented. So the scouts seemed to have a pretty far reach on elementals if they were able to pluck this kid up from so far away. ”Do you think you’ll be able to keep up here?” Kelsey’s question was not one of concern, more of a challenge for Shin. She was testing the waters with the new kid. She was curious to know if she would have to keep an eye on him, even if he promised not to stir up trouble.
Unlike many people Shin’s recognition of her looks didn’t embarrass Kelsey. In fact her chest swelled with pride as her smirk widened. ”Look Shin, aren’t you like, thirteen or something?” He certainly looked rather young to be asking Kelsey about her afternoon plans. Was he expecting to take Kelsey out to Disney concert and maybe hold hands by the end of the night? ”Trust me, you’ve given my ego a huge boost, but I don’t go out with students that are too young to even think about sneaking into a bar.” For once Kelsey took a bit of pity on the poor boy. ”Try again when you’re a bit older,” she teased. Or maybe when you get through puberty, she thought.
Kelsey standards for even hook ups was high. There was no way she could be caught dead with the likes of someone who wasn’t on her level and she barely knew Shin at all. Someone with intelligence, physical aptitude, or impressive control over his or her element usually caught Kelsey’s attention. She scanned over Shin and gave him a casual shrug, determining off very little facts that he was not up to snuff. ”Shouldn’t you be going after someone closer to your own age? You don't even know the first thing about me.”
