HISTORY
scarlet was born and bred in the tiny, submissive village of sicily island, louisiana (population, four hundred) the same place of which a boy called lewis mcguire grew up. when silicy island was attacked by a fire god-following cult of elementalists, scarlet managed to save lewis from capture by hiding him inside a crate, but getting herself caught as a result. she was enslaved by the cult and forced to build a skyscraping shrine of vulcan, the greek god of terrific fire, on an uncharted, uninhabited island people called "galuna". she was imprisoned together with several other children. among these children were walter wright, terra bennett and clifford cope. while they were asking for each other's names, she said her name was "janeylnn", yet clifford gave her the nickname "scarlet" for her choice of clothes. despite the harsh conditions of enslavement and labor, she became close friends with the other children. she also formed a strong bond with jasper, an elderly wind-user, who sensed her elemental abilities at a mere glance, and helped her discover them.
scarlet spent two years as another victim of kidnap and slavery. one day, clifford came up with a plan for the twelve-year-old Erza and all their friends to escape from the tower. they were unfortunately caught by the guards, who decided to send the escapee's mastermind to the tower's disciplinary chamber, while the rest would be deprived of food for three days. seeing how fearful clifford was, scarlet prepared to take the blame herself, but walter announced himself as the mastermind instead. however, the guards reasoned that scarlet was the one responsible and sent her to the disciplinary chamber, where she was tortured to the brink of death. clifford rescued her, but was captured soon after. finally fed up with their torment, scarlet staged a revolt against their captors so they could escape and save clifford. the revolt appeared to be successful at its inception until the tower's fire elementalists arrived to repress the slaves, causing most of the other slaves to retreat. during the attack, scarlet watched in horror as her friend elijah's lower jaw was blasted off by a fire attack, while jasper sacrificed himself to defend scarlet from another guard's attack. in her rage, scarlet's latent wind element was activated for the first time, and she used it to turn all of the discarded weapons and tools around her against the guards, finishing the revolt.
as the other slaves boarded ships meant to ensure their freedom, she reunited with clifford, but discovered that he had changed; the kind and compassionate boy she knew him to be was suddenly twisted and violent, using his fire element to slaughter the defenseless guards around them. clifford had been possessed by what he claimed to be the spirit of vulcan, and decided that the only way for them to attain true freedom was to complete the shrine and revive vulcan. scarlet refused to help him, prompting clifford to cast her out of the tower by herself, only letting her live because she helped take care of all the guards who would have opposed him. before letting her escape, clifford told scarlet to keep the shrine a secret from the government, as well as to never return to the tower, threatening to destroy the tower and kill everyone in it, including their friends, if she disobeyed. clifford gave one of the knowing guards instructions to take scarlet back to silicy.
after washing up on the shores of the catahoula parish, scarlet made her way home, where she was constantly questioned by the authorities of her kidnap and where the other children are: all to which she replied that her memory must have been erased. she was suffocated with welcome by her mother and father, who agreed to give her a long period of time off school. during this "recovery", she turned down several offers of counselling and therapy. habitually she began to wear a lot of steel jewellery and acted distant from her family and prior neighbourhood friends. when lewis, who the reclusive scarlet barely remembered, saw her crying by herself and questioned why, she began to open up more. scarlet returned to school, and quickly became known as the distant, socially awkward girl with no friends at all. as the years passed, she forced herself to neutralise and appreciate friends instead of tolerate them. she became more and more strict, to the point of being known as the school's disciplinary, a tough, serious girl that rarely interacts, only zoning in to break up a fight or stick up for the weedy kid. she was commonly found skulking around alone, taking no notice of surroundings. when she turned fourteen, she transferred to the academy of the elements.

SECRET WORD i like silver bullets
RP SAMPLE"a very long time ago, in a place very far away called enchantland - a star fell from the night sky. the star was not a light, nor was it a lump of rock - but a girl. she didn't know where to go when she fell into enchantland. and while she was trying to figure out how to get back into the sky, on the other side of enchantland, three cruel witches lived in a rundown cottage. they had seen the star fall. the three witches thirsted for the fallen star, see. her heart would give them youth, and beauty. for they were ugly, wretched old hags, cursed with black blood to live forever as wrinkly, disgusting women. and when they heard tell that sorena, the north star had finally fallen somewhere in the deep dark forest of the enchantlands, they didn't waste a second. for the pure, glowing heart of a star grants everlasting life to those who own it. it was not just the repulsive salem sisters that craved that." claudia spoke softly. she was sitting on a stout, grey rock on the bank of the lake, her feet neighboured by sheaths of grass and wildflower. aston green, luvia cartridge and ivory paltrow sat cross legged and earnest before her; three young villagers that had come only to hear the tale. frequent visitors to claudia, they were; under their guardians permission of course. though that concept was nearly irrelevant, as the lake was so near to the village. the three children could just shout if danger presented itself, and help would hear them easily. so, the lake was christened the prime spot, where claudia would tell aston, luvia and ivory about enchantland. a fictional place, of course - like all the places in claudia's stories. enchantland is typically where all the tales are set.
"what the witches did not know about, however - was the portal wall."claudia said, ending the sentence with a dramatic yell, standing up abruptly. the children jumped and stood up with her quickly, wide eyed.
"the portal wall?" luvia asked curiously, looking up to claudia was great interest. claudia grinned and nodded, leaning down and pinching a stalk of wild wheat, letting the buds cascade into her palm. she returned to normal height, eyeing the children dramatically.
"yes. the wall that separated the magical kingdom from the human villages. under twenty four hour guard, all the time, everyday. nobody is allowed in, or out. the wall cannot be broken or damaged. it's a magic wall. how do we know? because it sparkles," claudia said, ending in barely more than a whisper. she slowly kneeled, and sprinkled the tiny buds of wheat before the children. they dropped to the grass, with a slight glittering effect. the children were amazed.
"before the witches time, a man crossed this wall. his name was dunstan thorn. he tricked the guard, and runs into enchantland, without knowing what he will find. he met a girl there, at the magic market. a princess, enslaved by a nasty and vicious fairy. her name was snowdrop," claudia smiled, and whirled away from the three. she swiped her torn green jacket from the branch it hung on, and slid it around the back of her neck like a scarf.
"dunstan and snowdrop ran away from the market, and spent countless days and nights together. they soon fell in love."claudia said. luvia and ivory sighed dreamily, while aston pretended to be sick. claudia chuckled and ruffled his hair. "anyways, it couldn't last long. because dunstan had a family to look after back home, on the other side of the wall. as much as he would have liked to stay with snowdrop in enchantland, he had to go back. snowdrop wanted to go with him, to live in the human world, but she was cursed to be the fairy's slave forever. she could not leave. so they had to say goodbye." claudia spoke with a play-on sad tone, slowly descending down to sit on the rock again. aston, luvia and ivory sat down on the soft bed of matted grass they were on before.
"dunstan never forgot about snowdrop, and she never forgot about him either. in fact, nine months later, she sent him a gift. there was a knock on dunstan's door one rainy night. dunstan opened it to find no-one other, than a crying baby in a woven basket, wrapped in light blue blankets. he took in the baby, fed it, kept it. there was a note in the basket, telling dunstan that the baby's name was tristan. the note was from snowdrop herself. but that was years ago. the baby tristan grew up into a handsome young man. there was a pretty girl in the village called victoria that tristan had grown to secretly love, even though all victoria had was looks. one night, he saw a shooting star in the sky, and he thought, 'if i brought victoria that star, she would love me for sure. for no other man could give her such a gift!' so in that very hour, he followed the falling star's direction, and it brought him to the portal wall. he'd been told never to pass this wall, for unknown things lie behind it. but the guard wasn't around to stop him. without knowing it, tristan walked right into enchantland." claudia grinned at the children's intrigued faces, hanging on her every word. claudia stood up and brushed down her trousers, pulling on her jacket.
"i think we'll leave it there for today." she said. the three protested all at once.
"but claudia, what happens to tristan? and sorena, the star?" ivory asked curiously.
"i know what'll happen, tristan will find her before the witches do." aston said proudly. ivory and luvia quickly looked to claudia for confirmation. she simply shrugged.
"maybe he does and, maybe he doesn't. you'll find out tomorrow, munchkin. go on back now, you've been away a long time." claudia smiled, patting aston's head.
