NEGATIVE TRAITS
- clingy. he hates being alone and constantly needs to be part of a group. he also relies on lots of encouragement in order to keep him happy.

HISTORY alec’s mother became pregnant with him when she was sixteen. she had been attending the academy at that time, but her parents pulled her out as soon as they found out she was pregnant and started homeschooling her. her boyfriend, james, was eighteen and had already graduated from the academy and had just started college. her parents were outraged and wouldn’t let him see her unless they agreed to get married. while it wasn’t an ideal time to get married, they agreed. her and james were married just a few months before alec was born. things went well, although michelle’s parents never allowed her to go back to the academy, making her stay home and take care of alex. from that moment on, she rarely ever used her powers again.
when she finished her homeschooling however, her parents allowed her to go on to college to become a veterinary technician. they either took care of alec while she was gone or left him with his father. he was an alright father. he tried to care for alec the best he could, but sometimes he’d get frustrated with all the crying and dirty diapers.
things got a bit easier once michelle was done with college and they found their own place. alec had also started kindergarten around this time and surprisingly didn’t cling too much when michelle dropped him off the first day. he was eager to learn new things and spend time with the other children there. michelle was very proud of him. she noticed some changes in james though. he seemed exhausted constantly and complained that she was spending too much time with alec and not enough with him. every time she would explain that she was just taking care of their son. at the end of every argument, james would seem to agree and understand, but he would still continue to complain about it. this continued on for months until it finally reached its peak. they started having more and more arguments and they kept getting more and more heated. one day, in the middle of a heated argument, it got to be too much. after a biting remark from michelle, james slapped her across the face, the force of the hit sending her back into a wall. silence fell and they stared at each other until michelle walked away and hid in the bathroom. they didn’t talk about it. this would happen about once every week, always ending with a smack or burn and michelle hiding in the bathroom. alec would always be tucked away in bed, fast asleep. that changed as he got a little older.
when he was about nine, alec started staying up a little later every night, even though his mom had sent him to bed awhile ago. one night he heard his parents arguing and decided to see what was wrong. as he rounded the corner to where his parents were, he saw his dad hit his mom. he cried out and ran tohis mother’s side, asking if she was okay. he then turned to his dad with tears in his eyes and asked why he would hurt mom. he simply frowned and left the room, leaving michelle hugging crying alec and telling him everything was okay. he didn’t understand how she could say that. dad had hurt her. how was that okay? ever since alec found out that james was hurting his mom, he tried to keep her close when she was home. sometimes he would fake having a nightmare if he noticed she was stressed so she’d end up sleeping with him in his room. he lost that excuse when he turned eleven, james saying he was too old for that. michelle agreed and got alec some fish, hoping it would soothe him when he woke up from a nightmare. she never knew the nightmares were fake. while it didn’t help with his imaginary nightmares though, it did help him when he was stressed or upset. he would just watch the way the fish swam around and listen to the sounds of the filter, and it would help him calm down. he’s kept fish ever since.
also, around that time was when boys started talking about girls. guys and girls would giggle at the thought of holding hands with each other, except alec. he didn’t likegirls. he didn’t think they had cooties or anything. he just didn’t like girls. he did, however, like other boys. he didn’t understand why he liked boys. he knew he was supposed to like girls. what was wrong with him? was he a bad person? that night, before bed, he tentatively asked his mom about it. she was very surprised when he told her he liked boys, but she told him that there was nothing wrong with him. she told him that some boys liked other boys and some girls liked other girls and there was nothing wrong with that. james overheard them and burst in the room, angry. he told alec that it wasn’t okay; that being a "faggot" was wrong. he then turned to michelle and started yelling at her, saying how dare she tell him it was okay. he then started hitting her, different from the other times. he punched her relentlessly. alec screamed and jumped on james’ back, wrapping his arms around his neck to try and choke him. james stopped his assault on michelle and ripped alec of his back, throwing him to the ground. michelle screamed as james started attacking alec, kicking him and then hoisting him up to his feet to start landing punches to his face. he could feel blood in places from where he’d been punched so hard the skin split. one punch was strong enough to send him back into the wall, his head hitting it hard and everything going black.
he woke up in the hospital. the neighbors had heard a disturbance and had called the police. they showed up a few minutes after alec went unconscious. they took james away and called an ambulance for alec and michelle. while he was recovering, james and michelle got a divorce. michelle received full custody of alec. james got jail time and a restraining order. things were great after that, but alec refused to talk about boys for a long time.
michelle met someone new when alec was thirteen. he was a nice man and he had a daughter two years younger than him. he didn’t have any elemental blood, but that was just fine for them. michelle’s parents didn’t approve, but she didn’t care. he was a nice man, had a lovely daughter, and didn’t care that her son might be gay. later in the year, they got married. alec got to be the ring bearer and candice was the flower girl. they made a wonderful family. things went very smoothly and then alec turned fourteen.
he was his mother’s child; a water elemental. one night he had rushed into her and anthony’s room, soaking wet, shouting at his mom that they had to save the fish. turns out he’d had a nightmare and the water in the fish tank had reacted to it, bursting from the tank, drenching alec and his bed. he was really excited to attend the academy, but was predictably very nervous on his first day. he quickly made friends though and did very well in his academic and elemental classes. michelle started to worry though when he started dating. she was very surprised when he told her he had a girlfriend, since she had thought he was gay. she didn’t say anything though, until they broke up. alec timidly admitted to her that he was indeed gay, but that he didn’t want to be out in high school. he’d already seen students, seniors even, getting bullied for being gay. she wasn’t happy about him choosing to stay closeted, but she wouldn’t out him. they told anthony and candice that night, making sure they’d honor alec’s wish to keep it quiet.
after that, things were amazing. alec was turning out to be a wonderful young man. now alec was in the eleventh grade, well-liked by his peers and teachers.

SECRET WORD Correct.
RP SAMPLEThe first day of high school was always something kids got nervous about, but it was different when you were an elemental. The Academy was different than your average high school. Things were more serious; more dangerous. Alec had heard there had been at least one war between students every year. They took to their alliances seriously and if anyone messed with them, they could end up being shunned and labeled a traitor. This was troubling to Alec, since he was always nice to everyone. He didn't think he would get along with people in Fire or Thunder, but there were always a couple people that didn't strictly fit the personality type. Would people shun him if he was nice to them? It wasn't bad to try to be civil with the opposing elements, right? He sure hoped not. He could deal with not having friends there, but he couldn't treat them unkindly.
"Penny for your thoughts?" his mother asked. The car had stopped and they were now parked just in front of the Academy. It was huge! Sure, he knew it was a castle, but this was insanely beautiful. He turned back to his mother, remembering she'd asked him a question.
"Just.. the alliances," he shrugged, lacing his hands in his lap. "I don't want to end up doing something wrong and becoming some outcast."
"You'll be fine," she said, running a hand through his hair to soothe him. "Just try to be indifferent. You don't have to hate them. Just keep your distance." She paused. "And who knows, your instincts just might kick in and you won't have to worry like me."
Alec smiled sadly and put a comforting hand on his mother's shoulder. "Don't think about James," he told her, not wanting his mother to be upset from memories of his father. "I'm sure everything will be fine. I'm a big boy, right?" He grinned and his mom laughed, messing up his hair. "Oi!" he exclaimed, swatting her hand away. "I still gotta look good."
"Oh hush, I'm sure you'll have 'em eating out of the palm of your hand. Messy hair or not." They both grinned. "So.." she continued. "Ready for your first day at the Academy then?"
"Yeah," he nodded. "I think I am."
They both exited the car, his mother giving him a quick hug before sending him off with his bag. He hoisted it over his shoulder and made his way towards the building, pausing momentarily to watch his mother drive away. He then took a deep breath, gathering his courage, and stepped through the large double doors.
