HISTORY
Thunder roared, signaling that Aura had arrived on the night before New Years Eve. The gods were smiling down on Alanna as the doctors reported that she was a very healthy baby despite Alanna’s constant worrying. Derrick had supported Alanna the entire pregnancy, constantly stressing to his wife that their daughter would be healthy. But Alanna had insisted that she do everything by the book. And she was finally satisfied with herself when she delivered her daughter. With that said, Derrick would not hear the end of it and he knew that.
The young newborn quickly sprouted into a feisty toddler, her newfound exploring attitude turning out to be a hazard for her parents. They would find her in trees, climbing fences, and Alanna’s most feared: playing with the bugs in their backyard during the hot summer days. Alanna couldn’t count on both hands how many bee stings her daughter received growing up. She thanked whoever resided up above that she wasn’t allergic. Her daughter was a handful but Alanna never once complained. She feared for years that she was infertile and Aura was the one that made a difference in her life.
On her 7th birthday, Aura was told some exciting news. Usually at this age, finding out that she was getting a brother, kids would be upset. But Aura was beyond ecstatic. She had always wanted a younger sibling. Her friends had older siblings, but Aura wanted something different. She wanted to show him the world, teach him the ways of life.
The birth of her brother nine months later led her on a path of happiness. Her friends were confused. Wouldn’t she be upset about another child taking her place? But it never happened. Aura was still given as much attention as Rick was. And Aura was coddling him to an early death, as her mother joked. She would always request to hold him and give him his bottle and at times, burp him. Her baby brother meant the world to the little seven year old and she would let nothing happen to him. She would be the older sibling that she didn’t have.
Fast forward six years on the rainy day of February seventeenth. Aura remembers this very clearly. A powerful headache had hit her. Hard. She fell out of her chair while the teacher was in the middle of a lecture and it scared her. The fourteen year old was confused. Why would a headache affect her so easily? Her mother picked her up from school and realized it was time to explain. The thunder elemental explained to her daughter what she was going through and how it happened to her and her father at her age. The fourteen year olds mind was reeling. Wasn’t all this just fantasy? What else didn’t she know? Were vampires and werewolves real too? The fates had opened up new possibilities to her and she fully intended to absorb the knowledge that was out there.
That fall, Aura was at the Academy and like she was in her second home-Until she came to understand the alliances. She didn’t like the separation between people. The outcast feeling she got when she stepped into a room full of earth and water elementals made her uncomfortable to say the least. Her home away from home was not as comforting as she thought it would be. So she dove into her school work. Becoming the top of her class, she succeeded in the sciences, her mind molded to the way the natural world worked.
Graduation came sooner than she expected and the college classes were not as tame as she expected them to be. Both body and mind were drained each day and it took all of her will power not to quite. The only thing that kept her going was becoming a high level thunder elemental to teach her brother, who had recently discovered his power as a thunder elemental. With this determination, she continued with her studies, immersing herself with the information that was to be sought after.
A fateful day fell upon the Allen family. A call that Aura never wanted to get was received. Her brother had been hit by a drunk driver. He was in critical condition and suffering from internal bleeding. When Aura had gotten to him, he had passed; the light in his bright eyes had died out. Aura was heartbroken. What would she do without her little brother? Her rock and her stability that kept her anchored. She was lost and her path was broken.
Months had passed and Aura had finally graduated college. She had majored in Psychology, one of her scientific passions. Realizing that even though Rick wasn’t there for her to teach anymore, that didn’t mean she couldn’t teach at all. The summer of her twenty-first birthday, she applied for the psychology position and was granted the job. Fall came quickly and her students were surprised someone as young as she was teaching a class. But she kept her head straight and taught her students the science of psychology. With kids grades fluctuating, parents had continually come in to chat with her. One autumn day, a young man, about the age of twenty two, had come in to see if his brother could do anything to get his grades up.
Aura was smitten. And to say the feeling wasn’t mutual would be a lie. This fire elemental had set ablaze her heart again after the bout of depression. The two hit it off immensely, bonding over little things. About seven months later, Aura found out she was pregnant. Both were thrilled, already talking about baby names, whether the child would be a fire or thunder elemental. It was a dream come true for Aura and she felt her brother smiling down on her. The now twenty two year old woman was blossoming into a beautiful maternal figure. It was late August that her world turned upside down once again.
The pain in her stomach was horrendous. She had never felt anything like it, even the headaches she experienced when she developed her powers. Rushing her to the hospital, Kenneth worried sick over his son and his girlfriend. He couldn’t lose the two of them. He just couldn’t.
Aura lost the baby.
Stricken with grief, she left Kenneth by himself to grieve alone. She felt guilty, like it was her fault that she had lost the baby. Her heart was broken and she couldn’t understand why something this horrible was happening to her. Her personality had changed drastically. She caved into herself, only coming out when she connected with her students. But even then, she was at times, so upset and careless that her students didn’t even want to be in her class.
Skip to the present and Aura is still in the healing process. She doesn’t know where Kenneth is and she feels heartbroken over losing him but she can’t bear to connect with him again. The guilt is too much. She is better at teaching and she loves every one of her students, no matter what element. As of right now, she still refuses to become a more social person or connect with someone on an emotional level.

The morning sun was barely visible as Carolina Beth Keyset slowly and groggily opened her eyes only to find that it was a grey and cloudy day. The clouds in the sky were looking menacing and ready to down pour over the school and unload a lot of thunder and lightning. Carolina bit her lip and rolled over in her bed, trying to get a bit more comfortable underneath her warm blankets. But it was too late. She was already awake and she knew there was no going back to sleep. Sighing, she sniffled a bit before sitting up and instantly, wanting to fall back down in the covers. Her head pounded and she just wanted to sleep forever.
But she knew that she couldn’t. She couldn’t just run away from her problems like she wished she could. She laid her arms on the fluffy comforter, looking around her room as she thought to herself for a moment. Why did she have a headache? Oh that’s right. Benji. Groaning, she held her head and fell back onto the soft pillows, telling herself to just sleep it off. But she couldn’t. Now that she had remembered the events from last night, she was wide awake. Her and Benji yelling at each other, talking about commitment. She didn’t want to marry him. All she said was that she simply wanted to get married someday. Was that such a scary thought? Apparently to him it was. She opened her eyes again and looked out the window that was directly across from her. It was a bit of a muggy gray outside. It was going to be a very dull day today. Holding her head, looking like she was covering her ears, she sat up again, slowly and squeezed her eyes shut as the pounding in her head came back. Honestly, it was probably worse than what normal people would call migraines. For her, it felt like a giant was pounding her skull but it wouldn’t break. Only stay solid so she could receive more pain. Reaching over to her nightstand, she took the bottle of chemicals and plugged her nose before gulping it down as fast as she could.
That was probably the worst part of her day, drinking those chemicals. But whatever kept her alive, right? I guess. Finally, using all the will power she could, she threw the warm blankets off of her tiny body and swung her little legs over and stood up, shivering as the temperature of the cold floor contrasted with the warmth of her skin. She walked over to the bathroom, still in a slight daze from waking up and turned the shower on. After she undressed, she stepped inside and stood beneath the hot water for a moment or two. Last night’s events swam throughout her mind. Her yelling at Benji after he raised his voice at her. The two were both at blame for yelling. And for her, yelling gave her a headache. Yelling and crying. After Benji left, she let a few tears escape before breaking down and just crying softly to sleep. It wasn’t that she was desperately in love with him. It’s just the thought of them not getting back together and him being with some of other girl, really tore her up inside. Another girl that was probably prettier than her. She knew she would be prettier than Carolina and Benji would be very happy with her and they would fall in love and-
Cold water began to rinse Lina’s skin, pulling her from her thoughts. Quickly washing her hair and body, she jumped out of the freezing cold shower and into a fluffy white bathrobe. Opening the door, she quickly ran to her room. Slamming the door shut, she got dressed and did her hair after she brushed her teeth. She knew exactly the person to go see today. Her older brother, Alex, or Keyse, as he reminded her so many times, was the perfect person to vent to. Or at least just hang out with when she was upset. Grabbing her bag, she left her room and made her way out to the close combat field, shivering a bit but knowing she would warm up once she went one on one with her brother. She stopped in the middle of the field, looking around for him, having a feeling he would probably be out here. If he wasn’t, then she would just check the art room.
