OTHER Ethan’s Grandmother on his mom’s side, Elaine Anderson, who took care of him from the time of his mother’s death, until his eventual departure to the academy.
HISTORY Ethan, like most kids growing up, was always full of energy. He loved everything and everyone, having the childish notion that the world was truly good and that people were caring, passive beings. After his mother died, Ethan’s energy died out considerably, he now kept to himself mostly, focusing on his schoolwork and only enjoying the company of those who were determined to be around him. Though he seemed like a loner, the young child didn’t truly hate the world, he still saw good in everything around him, he was just too afraid to get attached to any one thing ever again. It wasn’t until his first year in middle school, when his first real bully attacked him and made crude remarks about his deceased mother that Ethan turned to a darker, more cynical path. Not only did he hospitalize the boy who spoke cruelly of his family, but he began to distance himself away from everyone entirely at this point. As puberty kicked in, he didn’t chase after girls like all the other boys around him; in fact, he couldn’t be more repulsed by the idea of having any type of physical relation with a girl, or boy for that matter. Bored with school, family, and his monotonous life, Ethan jumped at the chance to leave when he learned of his “gifts” and of this new, exciting place where he could learn to control it. In his eyes it was just “another way to dominate over everyone else”. During his first two years at the school, he quickly realized how maladjusted he was and that with the alliances that were in place, he had to become a friendlier, more socially acceptable version of himself to thrive in the new environment. The result was an arrogant, “I’m better than you but you love it” stereotype, but it ended up serving his purposes so he never put much work into changing it.

RP SAMPLEEthan trudged through inches of snow, whispering obscenities under his breath every time he felt some of the snow seep into his boots and soak his socks. His face was almost entirely covered up by his extensive outerwear. Between the large hood of his heavy winter coat, and the facemask that went up to his nose, only the seventeen year old’s blue eyes, ones that looked as if they were ready to kill, were visible. He hated cold weather with a passion, sometimes wishing he’d had the luxury of being raised on a tropical landmass, one void of a real winter. Wearing ten layers just to keep yourself at room temperature seemed completely absurd to him, and the snow that everyone seemed to yearn for only served as either a constant distraction for him when it fell from the sky, or yet another obstacle when he made any attempt at leaving his home to get to his desired location and vice versa. “Why’d I even bother leaving my dorm, is there really anything worth freezing to death for in this god-forsaken school during winter break?” Ethan’s words, muffled and unintelligible, reminded him of the reason he was making this trip, a reason that had, for a moment, been forgotten once the snow reminded him of his deep hatred of everything that was winter.
Although school was out of session and a fair amount of students had left for the holidays, he still had a wide open opportunity to gain vast amounts of Intel on the students who decided to stay. Now that it was only a matter of time before the next school year, he could yet again start assessing those around him. Learn their weaknesses, their strengths, how they worked, and most importantly, how could they benefit, or harm him. It was a yearly ritual he performed. It always seemed of the utmost importance that he know what everyone was capable of, since even though he was fairly confident of his abilities, Ethan knew that to this day there were some elementals still lingering on campus that could end him if he ever tried anything, plus with wind being neutral to all other elements, he felt the need to create his own private alliances, and to determine his personal enemies. As he reached Maple Hollow, the small city filled with young teenagers just waiting to be studied and classified, Ethan took off one of his gloves and put his hand in his pocket, reaching around until he pulled out two things, his identification card, and a black contact book. The book was his life, it was filled with ideal locations around the area as well as all the adept elementals, weakest links, under dogs, and those who for some reason or another, had taken a liking to him. It was his own personal study guide for the academy of elements, and he was about to take more notes.
