CLOTHING STYLE Tora takes great pride in her appearance. Because she is a teacher, she makes sure to dress professionally. However, Tora doesn’t find professional and fashionable mutually exclusive! She usually wears makeup, but just to subtly highlight her features rather than anything too intense. Her favorite color is red so she usually tends to wear a lot of reds and oranges and accents her outfits largely with red jewelry.

BEST MEMORY
Tora’s earliest memory is also her best memory, because it’s the only she has where her whole family is together and happy. When Tora was about 5 and her family still lived in Japan, they went to a Hanami party, a party to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossom trees. She and her parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles were at Nara park, having a picnic outside while looking at the beautiful flowers. Tora remembers being very impressed by the beauty of the flowers and climbing one of the trees with her mothers help so she could touch and smell them.
WORST MEMORY
Tora’s worst memory is the day that her mother died. Their family had lived in Maple Hollow for about a year. The move to a foreign country had been really difficult, exacerbated by the fact that Tora’s mother had been diagnosed with cancer not long before they moved. She remembers sitting in the hospital, on her mother’s bed and holding her hand when she died. Tora remembered hearing the horrible beeping sound indicating that her mother had flat-lined and her father’s grief. That was the only time she had ever seen him cry.
LONG-TERM GOAL Have a family, be successful, and make her father proud

HISTORY
Tora was born in Kyoto, Japan and lived there for about 5 years before moving to Maple Hollow. Their close family friends, the Mizushimas, had moved there a few years earlier. They were unsure they wanted to leave Japan, but ended up making that decision when Tora’s mother found out she had cancer. The move to a foreign country was very difficult on Tora. Not only was she in a completely new country with a very different language and culture, but she did not have a lot of support at home. Her mother tried very hard to still be supportive, but she was in the hospital a lot. Most of Tora’s earliest memories of Canada are of the hospital that her mother was in. Tora never felt lonelier than the few years after her mother had died. Her father was not as warm and caring as her mother was, although he did still love her. He was grieving himself and finding it difficult to be a successful Doctor and raise a 6 year-old alone.
Tora spent a lot of time with the Mizushimas during this time. Because they were such good friends of her parents, they too were grieving, and felt it was their duty to help out Tora and her father. At first she was very close with Hiro, because they were the same age and spent a lot of time together. After awhile, though, she began to grow very jealous of him. Her father had always wanted a son and had planned to have more children, before his wife died. Tora couldn’t help thinking that her father loved Hiro more than her because of this and was determined to out-perform him. This rivalry continued throughout their years at school together.
At home, Tora learned to be very self-sufficient. She felt like she had to make up for the fact that her mother had died by taking care of the cooking, cleaning, and other household duties herself. From the time Tora was 11, she was performing all of these tasks on her own for her father. She was desperate to please him and wanted to be successful in everything she did. Tora knew that he kept late hours at work, and didn’t want him to have to do all of the work when he got home or to rely on the Mizushimas.
In grade school and high school, Tora had always wanted to be an artist. She loved to draw and spent a lot of her free time sketching pictures of their garden. Her father, however, disapproved of art as a career and had hoped she would follow in his footsteps to become a doctor. This was the only time Tora can remember not doing something her father encouraged her to do. She loved biology and science as well, but secretly could not stand the sight of blood. She always kept it a secret from her father, but had passed out when they had to dissect frogs in her 9th grade science class. Instead, Tora decided to become a teacher. She loved school at the Academy and wanted to give back by teaching students, mentoring them both in their academics and with their powers. She became a biology professor in the hopes that her father would see that as closer to what he would have wanted for her.

RP SAMPLEGiven that it was such a brisk and beautiful fall day, the pond was extremely cold. It was a bit shocking to fall suddenly into it, particularly given the temperature. He stood up easily though- it wasn’t that deep and he had been swimming practically before he could walk. He coughed up some water that he had inhaled upon falling it, but other than that he was pretty much okay. It seemed like the girl he had startled didn’t know that though, as she hurried toward him looking extremely concerned.
Alex smiled, brushing wet hair away from his face. “Don’t worry about it- I’m fine. It’s my fault, anyway, I wasn’t looking where I was going.” It then occurred to him why he wasn’t looking where he was going. The girl would have been in perfect view of the horse! “Did you see that horse on the water by the way?” He asked, realizing how crazy that sounded. But it had definitely been there. Maybe she had been at the school for longer and could tell him some epic story about the magical creatures that lived there. Right, because that sounded more sane.
The girl grabbing his hand was almost as much of a surprise as falling in the water was. Before he had a chance to respond, however, Alex noticed the fake alligators surfacing behind her. He had no idea they were fake, of course. You didn’t see a lot of alligators in Rochester, New York. Besides, most people’s first response to seeing a bunch of large, deadly creatures surfacing behind them was not to think Oh, those look a little greener than usual.
“Shit! Alligators?!” He swore, and pushed the girl behind him, wanting to protect her from the creatures. He fumbled in his pocket for a rock and grabbed it, thinking Hardness. The rest of his body became as hard as the stone in his hand. This way, if the gators came close to them, he could fend them off without having to worry about alligator bites.
