Finals where something that always put a great amount of stress on the eighteen year old that was not sitting at a table in the library by himself. He wasn't usually a loner, but when it came to studying he needed to be. He wouldn't be able to stop talking if he didn't, and this was important. He was getting a headache from how much reading he was doing. The past couple months had come into some serious slacking off for the boy who usually spent way too much time into his studies. It was just that he had so much more going on now. His social life was slowing starting a downward spiral in how he worked.
However, he had to study now. With finals just around the corner, he had to ensure he graduated. He wanted to move onto university. After all, he was a 4.0 student. His grades had started to slip a little bit and that was when he decided that he needed to straighten himself back up. He couldn't let his petty wants get in the way of his future. He had so many hopes and dreams for the future that it would, well, it would be horrible if he couldn't fufill those just because he found his way into some drug and alcohol use for a while. He made some dumb mistakes, but was getting better about it.
He set his book down and closed his eyes, leaning back in his chair and rubbing his hands over the front of his eyes releasing a small sigh. Oh, the stress this came with. He hoped that University wasn't going to be as bad. That in turn would probably make his head explode. Maybe I do need something to take the edge off... he thought, before shaking that thought from his head. No, he couldn't do that, could he? Not not, anyways. He would wait. He leaned back into his chair a bit more, tilting it as he did so. He was confident that -- nevermind. His train of thought broke when his chair fell backwards onto the ground, and he just lay there for a few minutes and blinked. "God damn it." He mumbled, as he sighed and got up, picking the chair, and shoving it forcefully back against the table. He was getting frustrated, and quickly abandoned his book and went and sat at a different table, rubbing his eyes with his hands.

Sofia was also hitting the books with a vengeance. There was no doubt that she knew the material and that she was well versed in what the teachers had taught her, but you would be hard pressed getting her to believe that she was already prepared. A boy a few tables from her seemed to be having trouble with his work as he kept fidgeting and overall couldn't seem to keep still. The tenth grader couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed at his minor disruptions.
Her nose twitched and her lips pursed when she heard the chair fall, but her annoyance shifted to concern when she heard the thud of a body hitting the ground along with the chair. His mumbles didn't reach her where she was, but she could guess that he wasn't too happy about it, either that or he was particularly stunned. It was taking him a while to get back up, should she go over and make sure he was okay? When she had finally decided she had probably get up and see how the guy was, he jumped up and slammed the chair against the table. Loudly. Sofia was a patient girl, she really was, but when it came to school work it was best not to distract her.
When he sat at her table, she could tell he didn't realize that he wasn't alone at his table of choice. Man, what kind of material was he into that he was that flustered? As he continued to rub his eyes, she bit the inside of her lip. Best suck it up and be polite, you have your off days too. Who knows what is going on in this guy's life that has him so wound up?
“Hey. Um... Are you okay? That sounded like a pretty heavy fall. I have some stuff to help get rid of headaches if you need it.” Falls like that always made her head ache, that ache did nothing swell for concentration. The wind user just hoped that this wasn't some jerk that would snap at her for being kind. Technically she had been sitting here first, if he wanted to pick a fight.

Gale was really starting to feel like he needed something to take the edge off. His recent escapades had probably influenced that and it wasn't really something he was proud of. Maybe a quick drink with Josh or Nell... He thought, sighing loudly. He wasn't too happy at the current moment and just everything had him stressed. He wouldn't outwardly admit that he thought he was going through withdrawls. Drugs and alcohol weren't a good thing to get in to and Gale hadn't ever been into them until recently. He stopped when he started reeling back into his studies, but he was getting bad head aches and he was grumpy all the time anymore. He just needed to get his stress gone, so a drink would probably help that. Not like he would go get totally hammered... right?
Gale was usually very patient. He didn't get frustrated. Upset. Pissed off. But lately he had been. He had been removed from his leadership position, and this close to the end of the school year made it all the worse. He wasn't a very happy camper about that in the first place. So everything lately was just making him upset. And falling backwards in his chair just made it that much worse. He wasn't hurt by any means, but he still wasn't happy. He didn't want to study anymore. He didn't want to be at this school anymore. He really didn't want anything to do with anybody at the current moment but he couldn't escape that.
However, a voice snapped him out of his angry, self absorbed thoughts as he looked up to see the girl that had spoken to him. He sighed loudly and tried to calm himself down. He couldn't be rude to a total stranger. "Yeah - Yeah I'm fine. Thank you." He said in a voice just loud enough for her to hear. "Sorry for.. interupting you. I just couldn't stare at that stupid book anymore." Never before had Gale ever been stressed come finals. He was a wonderful student and always passed them with flying colors, but these withdrawls where getting to him. He smiled at her. "I'll leave you alone if you'd like." He was getting back to his usual , talkative self.

“I know how that feels, finals are way to stressful,” she replied. “No, that's fine. I was about to take a break anyway,” she lied. It wasn't often that she got to talk to people, so what if she had to take a couple minutes away from her study time? She'd been studying all day, almost literally. Now that she thought about it, she probably was just about burnt out. The throbbing temples should have been a dead giveaway.
Closing her book, the paper made a definite thump as the edges came together. Her notebooks and materials were strewn about everywhere. This was how she studied, with all her things jumbled about her and in piles. Her parents never understood how she was able to study that way. It was her own personally organized chaos. Quiet noises from the other students as they studied floated their direction. Books closing, notebook pages being turned, and aggravated sighs like the one the guy in front of her had let loose a moment ago.
Now the awkward silence. What could she talk to him about? Sofia didn't have many people skills as most of the time she was eyebrows deep into her studies. “So, what were you studying for?” What else could she ask? It wasn't really time for an introduction yet was it? Or should that have been the first thing she said? “I'm Sofia,” she blurted unthinking. There, now that was done and she didn't have to worry about it anymore.

Gale never used to get stressed about finals. No, he used to be rock solid on all things of that nature. There was nothing better than finals week and getting your grades back. Yeah, he was kind of a nerd. He put too much time into his studies. The previous year, he got full points on all of his finals. Because he studied a lot. Too much, many people would say. But he had too. He didn't have anything keeping him busy otherwise. No girlfriend, no job, all he had to worry about was school. So that was what he did. Although recently he did have stuff distracting him, although it probably shouldn't have. He wasn't a bad kid all of the time, jsut when he got into things he shouldn't have. "Amen to that." He said, shaking his head a little bit. Finals where too horrible on everybody. "Well, if you're sure then. I need a break too." He said, laughing dryly. It was true, though. He needed a good, long break from studying. The brooding thought that college was just going to be worse never really left.
Awkward silences were something the boy wasn't that used to. He was social and talkative, so conversations never really got to that point. But in this current state of mind, he couldn't think of what to say. It wasn't like he was not talkative, he had stuff he could say, but to somebody he hardly knew? She wasn't a water elemental, he knew that. He quite literally knew everybody in that house. He was the leader for close to two years, so he had to. But his recent escapades with drugs got away with him. He felt bad about it, but it happened that way. "Well, currently chemistry." He rolled his eyes and sighed outwardly at the though. "Certainly not my best subject." Which seemed to be true in all senses of the word. Chemistry the science, and chemistry with females. He wasn't too great at either one. He glanced at her. "What about yourself?" Friendly conversation never hurt anybody, right? Unless the person turned out to be a serial killer, then it might. But he was pretty sure this girl wasn't. "Oh, nice to meet you Sofia." He smiled, and nodded curtly. "I'm Gale. Gale Harrison." He kept the smile on his face as he held out his hand to her to shake.
