Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin stood behind the shelves, scanning for what book she might possibly need. She had a big report due, and wanted to work on teaching herself Korean again. She knew bits and pieces, but not enough to be satisfied with. None of the books on the shelves were proving helpful to that urge, so she settled with a book that would be helpful for her report.
Walking over to a sunwashed sitting area, she picked one of the nice, cozy arm chairs with a table attached to it, and settled down with the book. The book proved very unhelpful. It's contents were very unclear, and jumped around a lot from one topic to the next, making very little sense.
Running her hands through her hair, Braylin refused to shut the book quite yet, and continued reading through it's extremely boring contents. Unfortunately for her, the book proved its boringness to her, and within half an hour, her face lay in the book as she slept. The past few nights of staying up late or pulling all nighters had taken its tole on her. College life was not proving it's easy, and neither were her summer classes. Bastian sighed. He had a paper due some and he needed to get some more research done. As much as he enjoyed school it could really be annoying, especially when all he wanted to was draw but of course he couldn't do that all the time. He figured though if he could get some research in fast enough then he could spend the rest of his time drawing. He had a few sketches he needed to get done for his art class. It was settled. Now he was a bit more motivated to getting this research done for his history class.
He walked to the library with a bit of a bounce to his step now that he had a new found confidence in what he was doing. He walked into the library which was dead silent. Of course it was a library and so it was expected then again though there weren't that many students, barely any in the library. That would definitely make things simple for him. He went straight to where the books he would be needing were located. It was near the back area. Bastian was in a hurry to find them so he wasn't paying attention the slight rising in the carpet when his foot got caught and he went stumbling forward. He didn't fall but he had dropped his bag which contained a few notebooks, his sketchbook and his art kit. Oh great. He could be such a klutz sometimes. He quickly bent down to start picking everything not even realizing that he wasn't alone since there was a young blonde sitting in one of the armchairs.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin had no idea how long she had been out, but it was a weird sleep. Her dreams had been cluttered and disorganized, which led to not that great of sleep. By the time she came to, she wasn't sure what had woken her at first. Whipping her mouth, she frowned at the drool stains on her notebook, and the sight of her empty page. Great, she hadn't gotten any work done.
When she heard a noise a few feet from her, she realized what had woken her up. Or in this case, who. A boy was crouched on the floor, trying to tend to a cluttered mess. Standing, Braylin moved to help him. "Let me help you." She said softly, her voice sounding as tired as she felt.

Poor little Bastian. This is what he got for not paying attention. If he had been a little more careful he could have avoided this. He would have moved on and the young girl who had fallen asleep wouldn't have been woken up. Bastian would have gotten his books, gotten started on his research and would have been done in no time. Then he would have been able to get right back to his drawing. Of course that would not be the case. In reality he had woken up the girl and he was now scattering to pick up his stuff. The worse part was that his art kit had opened up and his color pencils fell out. Just his luck.
He was putting his notebooks away when the young girl started helping him. "Sorry for the trouble." he apologized starting to pick up his pencils and other art supplies. He hadn't realized that his sketchbook had fallen open. He was too distracted getting everything else back that he kind of forgot about it.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin gathered together some of his papers for him, sticking them into a folder and sliding it over to him. "No, it's fine. I didn't mean to fall asleep anyway. I need to write a paper. So thank you for waking me, actually. If not I would have probably slept for two days." That was what she really needed. She didn't need to wake up, but sleep considering the best night's sleep she had gotten in the past week was a five hour, accidental nap. "I'm Braylin by the way. What are you writing the paper on?"
Glancing to her left, she noticed the supplies that had all scattered on the floor. Replacing pencils and other art supplies, she grabbed the sketchbook and stood up. "So you're an art student, huh? Is that the only reason you're here, or is there more to it?" She said, referring to certain elemantal abilities many others had. Braylin knew the art classes here were good too. Braylin originally wanted to sign up for a dance class, knowing they were high end, but decided it wouldn't be the best decision for her. "They're beautiful by the way. You've got some talent, kid." She said, holding the sketch book out for him. Tagged: Braylin Notes: None Outfit: Here

As embarrassing as it was he was grateful for this young woman to help him out. It definitely got things done quicker than Bastian just scrambling around to gather it all up. "Sorry I couldn't do it in a more graceful way." he said apologetically. "Bastian." he said with a bright smile and fixing his fedora. "A history paper. Victorian era. It isn't due for like another week but I figured I'd get it done now." Plus, if he got things done now then that was more drawing time in the long run. So in his opinion things worked out well. "I'm not exactly an art student yet but I am planning on majoring in art when I graduate. Got to get through the next three years first and control of my wind abilities." he said with a bit of a chuckle.
He took the book back from her. "Thanks. I still have a lot to learn but I'm getting there I guess." Braylin wasn't the first to tell him that he had talent and Bastian was thankful for every comment because it told him he was doing something right. "So, what were you working on? Before you fell asleep I mean." he said kindly and took a glance at where Braylin prior to helping him out. He caught sight of the book must have been reading. "Korean? Are you a college student?" he asked curiously

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Putting her hand behind her back, she gave him a sweet smile. "No it's fine. Really, no worry." She felt bad for the poor kid and could see how embarrassed he seemed to feel. "You might have more to learn, but I think these drawings are great as they are. They're raw, unique and unconditioned. With too many classes, you become so trained that everything changes. Sure, the drawings will look better. Say more detailed or shaded better, but after too long, they lose their originality. An artist in this day and age would go a lot farther without the classes. Keep that in mind." She said, returning to her little spot.
When he mentioned her work, she looked down, and quickly closed her book. Braylin was a little shy when it came to her capabilities. "Umn. Yah.. Pan gap sumnida!" She gave a small laugh and sent him another smile. "I said it's nice to meet you. I know a little, but that's not what I'm really here for. I think I'm going to go for a Psych major." In all honesty, though, she really wanted to go for a performance major. But she knew her Aunt wouldn't approve because of her past, knew what she risked for it, and knew the lifestyle of a performer. It was probably best if she played it safe with a Psychology major. Bastian never really knew how to respond when people complimented him for his work. He was of course grateful and appreciative that people believed he had a talent but he still a bit bashful because of it but he did his best not to show it. He smiled and chuckled a bit when she spoke though. "You sound like my mom. She told me basically the same thing when she found out my love for drawing." he said as he joined her in the opposite chair aside from Braylin. He remembered that day quite clearly. It had been the day after he had first moved into the Hawthorne house, or mansion would be a better world for it. He had stumbled upon his adoptive mother's art room filled with some magnificent pieces of work. That was when she had found about his love for art and he ended up showing her some of his drawings. Granted they weren't anything great in his opinion but she begged to differ, saying that he truly had a talent. "She's shown some different techniques for different mediums."
He just smiled when she greeted him in Korean. "Dozo yoroshiku" he replied. "That was Japanese but it's nice to meet you too." He had been learning Japanese ever since he was adopted. Both his adopted parents were of Japanese descent and although he couldn't be completely sure of what ethnic background he came from he knew that he was at least part Asian so he thought he should learn something and since his adoptive parents were both Japanese he chose to learn that. He still had much to learn but he was getting there. "Psych major huh? Was that your first choice?" Bastian was quite the curious one when you got him talking.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin smiled. "The wise college student gives advice worth that of an adult." Braylin chuckled. "Your mother seems like a nice lady." Braylin closed her book, making an assumption they wouldn't be getting much studying done. But she didn't mind. He seemed pretty nice. When he asked about her major, she gave him a squint. "How'f you guess? Well.. It's the best choice. Good money maker, and not dangerous, nor do I have to deal with sick people. Well.. I mean I do but not in the same way. I... Nevermind." She said, feeling dumb. "What about you? Plan on pursuing art?"

"Couldn't ask for a better one." This year marked Bastian's second year since moving to Maple Hallow and the Academy as well and this past May marked one year since he officially became a part of the Hawthorne family. His parents had always been kind to him starting with letting him stay in their home for a while before he would start the Academy. It had been at the request of the Academy but had kindly offered. When he had first moved in he had been on his best behavior, of course he was always on his best behavior but this had been a tad different. He made sure to never step out of line and to be very appreciative of his stay. It didn't take long for the Hawthornes to calm him down and eventually he lightened up. He got to know them and vise versa. At least he was thankful that he had someone that he could sort of call family even after he'd start attending the Academy. Of course that had been his feeling before they had surprised him with the adoption papers. The thought had never occurred to him but when it happened he couldn't even express how happy he had been. "My adoptive parents have been amazing." Once upon a time he hadn't thought the idea of having parents was really possible but now he couldn't be happier for his blessing.
Bastian was one that got fascinated and curious by things very easily, especially when it was something that he couldn't do. "I see. Well, as long as you enjoy it." he said happily. He could never understand when people did things that made them unhappy or just wasn't what they wanted to really do. They must have their own reasons but still, Bastian didn't get it. Art had always been the thing he loved to do most in the world. "Yeah. Art's the only thing I've ever been any good at and it's the only thing I've ever really loved to do." he said with a smile. His parents always encouraged him to continue drawing as long as it was what he wanted to do. The day that they signed his adoption papers, which was also his birthday, they gave him new art supplies and a bunch of sketchbooks. Of course he's been filling them out almost everyday since he got them and has even had to buy a few more. It was worth it.
