Annabel tried to be a good kid. Tried. Unfortunately, like most fourteen year old kids, a little peer pressure and nagging was often enough to lead her away from the beaten path and into the wonderful world of mischief and pranking. Hanging around her Water friends certainly wasn't of any help. She'd been bitter about not being a Fire like the rest of her family when she'd first came to the Academy but apart from a couple of pangs here and there, thoughts of what could have been, she had settled in at last and had accepted her place among the school ranks. Now she stood in the bathroom with a few of her friends as they filled a pack of balloons with water from the sink. "Do you think we'll get in trouble?" The lone Earth in their otherwise Water group attempted to be the voice of reason but was quickly shot down by a decisive, "Psh, who cares?" The senior who'd spoke had taken the lead for this pranking session and so her words were currently being treated as unofficial law. Annabel liked to pull pranks and have fun but she wasn't nearly crafty enough to wander off on her own yet. None of the others were, which was why they were sitting back and letting a pro take the lead. There were unspoken ranks in the Water dorms and she wished she wasn't so close to the bottom.
"Right." The excited babble and chatter of the group went quiet as the twelfth grader spoke and Annabel played with the knot on one of the water balloons as she shifted impatiently from foot to foot. She didn't like waiting for things, she wanted to get this over with right now. "So here's what we're going to do..." She proceeded to launch into a plan of attack that involved splitting up and trying to hunt down as many Fires as possible during a set time frame, or at least until they ran out of water balloons. Glancing over at her bag full of them, Annabel had to wonder how long that would take. "We'll even make it a game. Count how many you hit and we'll all meet back here in an hour. Ready?" Annabel joined in the collective affirmation of the group, grinning over at one of her classmates and friends before following the crowd out of the door. She was a little reluctant to split away from the main group due to the fact that she wasn't that strong if she got into a fight but Annabel wasn't one to wimp out and back down from a challenge. She thought briefly about trying to find one of her friends to keep her company but ultimately decided to go it alone. I can do this. I got this.
She knew a lot of the Fires by sight alone. She and her friends had done a little... ah, research when it came to potential prank victims. The balloons filled with freezing cold water and dyes that would stain most fabrics with ease were not meant for anyone in particular, the only condition was that they had to be a Fire elemental, and so when Kathryn caught Annabel's eye, the hunt was on. She blended with the crowd as she followed the other girl until they came to an otherwise deserted hallway, then from her silent place behind took a couple of the balloons out and took aim. Fire! All right, so maybe she was supposed to throw a single balloon and then run. That would probably have been the smart thing to do. Unfortunately for Annabel, she still had a lot to learn when it came to messing with Fires.

Walking down the hallway with her hands in her jean pockets, playing with one of the clasps on her phones, Kathryn had a lot of stuff on her mind. In her head she was slightly stressing out at the moment, between a few upcoming tests an exams in a few of her classes, going into the city and working a few hours everyday, and spreading her time between hanging out with Blake and a few different guys to ease her anxiety every now and again. She definitely felt the need to ease some of her anxiety again tonight, but wasn't sure what guy she wanted to call for the job. There were multiple in her phone, but since she was a little on edge it couldn't be just any one, because if the wrong one opened their mouth and said the wrong thing at the wrong time- Kathryn wouldn't be happy. Finally figuring out which one was best to call, she took a turn down an empty hallway and whipped her phone out of her pocket, ready to dial his number.
Kathryn had had no clue that she was being followed. And in a since, not just followed, but stalked, throughout the hallways. She only realized that she wasn't alone when she felt something hit the back of her left thigh, and then an ice cold feeling drip down her pants. She was then hit again square in the back, right between the shoulder blades, and another on the arm holding her cell phone. She turned around on her heals, and caught the eye of a young Water girl. She had seen this girl before, she had a reputation of being one in the group of pranksters that ran around the school causing mayhem and irritation to everyone that they could. This particular one, she knew, was Annabel. She had just thrown freezing cold water balloons; Kathryn could see where a fourth one had been thrown, but the aim was off and it had skidded on the floor, not popping, landing a few steps from Kathryn's feet.
Kathryn's fiery eyes, held Annabel's with a warning, telling her if she ran it would just be worse on her. She bent over, picked the balloon on the floor up, and started tossing it up and catching it, threateningly. She took slow steps towards the frozen Annabel, circling her, basically hissing through her teeth, "Today was just...the wrong day to do this. Actually, come to think of it, any day would have been the wrong day to do this. If there's one thing I hate, it's cold. Cold weather, cold rain, cold water. If there's another thing I hate, it's Waters. Especially the young ones, who are still two stupid to comprehend how this school works. The ones who still haven't grasped the social ladder, who don't understand who's older than them, who's smarter than them, and who's stronger than them. Those, a lot like you. If you didn't come to this school with a fear of Fire students are older than you, then you may leave my presence showered in terror. If not terror at all older fire students, than at least terror at me. Because, honey, I don't think you understood who you were messing with when you choose me as a target."
Kathryn was pretty much at this point steaming from her ears, an spitting fire. It only got worse when she looked down at her arm, holding her phone, and the black sweater she had one had started to discolor. This had been one of her favorite outfits one of the only good aspects of her day. Now that, too, was gone. Some of the water had rushed up and hit her phone, who's screen now showed blank. It would totally piss her off it it didn't turn back on again, even though it wouldn't be too much of a hassle just to buy another one. Still, she took the water balloon in her hand, and popped it over Annabel's head, watching the water gush from it and drench her. That was the first time Kathryn actually smiled that day.

Annabel did not bother trying to be innocent and sweet when her first water balloon made contact with its intended target. Instead, the ninth grader burst into laughter that she made no effort to restrain. It might have come across as loud and obnoxious but what did she care? It was hilarious. Now she understood why the Water elementals enjoyed their pranks so much—the infuriated look on her victim's face made everything worthwhile. She'd had her doubts about the Water element when she'd first gotten her powers, having wanted to be a Fire like the rest of her family, but now she felt at home with her fellow tricksters. Clearly Kathryn didn't have as much respect for Annabel's kind as the girl herself did and for some reason that made it all the more satisfying. "Sorry, did I get you?" She laughed again, features lit up with glee. Oh, this was great! She couldn't wait to meet back up with her team again later and recount the tale of how she'd totally soaked the Fire's clothes in the damaging dyes.
The glare did not frighten her. She didn't find the Fire elemental intimidating, especially when she started to toss the balloon up and down. Annabel could only continue grinning. "Am I supposed to be scared? Come on." She wasn't scared of a lot of things. Horror movies used to scare her as a kid and send her running into her brother's room but when she'd saw that he didn't so much as flinch at the sight of blood, gore, and alien invasions, she slowly built herself up to be more like him. If she could handle horror movies, she could handle this girl.
Kathryn went on a little bit of a rant about how bad of an idea Annabel's prank had been, again failing to convince the ninth grader that she'd made a bad choice. "I think it was a brilliant day to do it." She should have learned in dealing with Mona that taking on opponents you didn't know very well was a bad idea. The Thunder elemental might not have absolutely whooped her ass but she'd certainly won their little argument in the end. Important life lessons that should have been learned from that encounter did not cross her mind now as she stared unflinchingly at the older Fire. "Are you trying to lecture me? Hah! I'm not scared of you." She wasn't, not yet. "Besides, why would I be scared of fire?" Not only did Water beat Fire from what her elemental classes had taught her but her mother, father, and both of her brothers were Fire elementals. True, they were all pretty scary when they were mad, but the fact that she was close with them diminished any possible fear. Having the balloon popped over her head wasn't scary either, just a little cold. She sidestepped, having had plenty of time to do so considering Kathryn hadn't thrown the balloon, and the water mostly soaked her shoulder and one side of her hair. "Oh, I've totally learned my lesson now." Sarcasm. "Am I supposed to be mad? It's just water." And a little dye, but Annabel could easily replace her clothes. Her family had plenty of money.
[She's really cocky >> Oh, kids.]
