Lark felt a yawn coming up, but she did not even think to suppress it. Instead she parted her lips and made an over dramatic stretch as she sat in the back of her class, tapping her pen anxiously on the open text book. Only ten more minutes left, and she would be free for the afternoon. Maybe go to Timmie's and get something to eat, call up Ashton and see what he was doing. Maybe they could spend the evening together or something. That sounded like a wonderful idea, actually. Without even thinking, Lark yanked the phone out of her pocket and planned to send her boyfriend a text message. No sooner had she unlocked the main screen did she hear someone clear their throat closer to the front of the classroom. Whoops. Not even displaying her embarrassment Lark looked up at the teacher and put her phone on the desk as casually as one would walking down the hallway. "Yes?" Lark asked. The teacher pointed towards the board with a firm finger. "We're still in class Miss Harper. Please pay attention." She did not even refrain from rolling her eyes at the comment. If there was one thing Lark was, it was sarcastic. It was almost a default, something she did without even trying. It pissed people off but Lark did not particularly care. "There's only eight minutes left," She pointed out before picking the phone up again. Who the fuck was paying attention right now anyway? Eight. Minutes. Minds were on going home, or going to work, or spending time with friends. Lark did not have work until tomorrow so tonight was... "Detention, Miss Harper."
Fuck.
There was no way out of that one. When class ended, Lark grabbed her things and took the detention slip from her teacher before following the crowd out of the door. Spending time with Ashton would have to wait now, and that annoyed the living hell out of her. It was just a phone, She griped to herself, looking as angry as she felt. And it was just detention but Lark was fuming over the entire situation. Tempers were a lovely thing. When she entered the detention hall there were a handful of students already inside. The teacher did not look phased to see Lark there; she had frequented the detention hall quite a bit in the past years. The empty seat at the back of the classroom was calling her name, and with a huff she sat down and thumped her book bag on the floor. A few more people came in, a couple she recognized and others she didn't. There were a few desks around her that were still empty; who would sit beside her this time? Hopefully none of her element. Last time that induced an argument, which led to a fight afterwards. She won at least. Lark did not even attempt to take out any books. Instead the Fire girl leaned back in her chair and, once again, pulled the phone out of her pocket.

It had happened again. She had forgotten some sort of homework, which she really couldn't remember at this point, and she had landed herself in detention. At least at this point she really didn't remember anything about the situation she was currently in. She had had a big night last night as she had gotten a call from her father for the first time in what seemed like forever. He was really sick at the moment and calls from him, or even seeing him, was something that never really happened. Kiya had stayed up all night to talk to him, because of time differences between the two and it might have also been the fact that she didn't really want to hang up in the first place. Her father hadn't really been there in her life because he was always been sick. The closest she had had to a father had been her uncle on her fathers side who had always been their for Kiya and her brother when they were trouble! As Kiya walked into the detention room she could plainly see that there weren't very many people in detention today.
That was new.
Usually there was 6 or 7 people in there and she would usually know a couple because they would be in there every now and again. It may not have been good for her leadership position but you know what. If she would get a call from her dad every night then she would leave and be happy but not, in a way. She had made so many friends through the position that she did want to leave it and them. But that was another conversation and a long one at that and it would be for another day! Today was today and tomorrow was a new day and she currently had no idea what she was even talking about. She saw a spare seat next to a girl that she really hadn't seen before. Which was the reason that she was going to sit next to her, as a leader she wanted to know as many people as she could because she was just way to awesome, or at least she thought so. Many people may have thought otherwise but she was just rolling with it at this point.
Slowing walking to the to give her her detention form she could help but smile a little. It had been awhile since she had had this particular teacher for detention and she also knew that this was going to be a pretty lazy detention period, thank shinigami. As she started to make her way to her seat she just began to imagine what would happen if the girl she was as thinking about sitting next to didn't want anyone sitting next to her. Umm, whatever. She walked up to her and said as she tapped her shoulder, "Um, hey. You don't mind if I sit next to you? My name is Kiya." Kiya knew that she could be straight forward when she wanted to be, she was hoping that something was going to start. That was the last thing that she needed!
((Sorry id it seems everywhere, I am typing while tried... This stuff is just as bad as texting while driving! (: ))[/i]

Centipede was a glorious game. As old as it was, it still had a sort of entertaining quality to it despite all of the new games a lot of the smart phones had. Lark had a few of them, namely Bejeweled and Farmville, random little games to keep her occupied when there was not much else to do. She was not a gamer by any means, but it did not take much to harvest crops or match up little shiny jewels on a touch screen. Just as she managed to extend the length of the little green snake-like creature on the screen, someone tapped her shoulder. The centipede drove straight into a wall and Lark lost the game. Sad day. She sighed a little and looked exasperated when she looked up at the girl who had tapped on her shoulder. "Well, I don't think I have much say in who sits where," Lark pointed out, ending her game of centipede and setting her phone on the desk. "But sure I don't mind. So long as you aren't some weirdo interested in talking about homework the entire hour." She looked bored, disinterested, but really it was just her dryer sense of humor. In fact Lark was rather eager to have someone to talk to. These stupid detentions could be so goddamn boring.
Immediately Lark offered Kiya her hand in greeting. "Nice to meet you. I'm Lark." Kiya's face was not familiar to her, which was probably a good thing. Maybe she wasn't a Fire. Thunder maybe, since she did not know them as well. Ah well, no matter the element she was stuck in detention with all of these other students anyway. "So what are you in for?" She passed her a bit of a smirk, not at all ashamed by her own means of getting into the detention hall. She spoke as though they were juvenile delinquents tossed in jail or some shit. Which, to her, it felt that way sometimes. Her phone vibrated and she looked down. It said 'dad' on the screen and Lark refrained from scowling. Instead she silenced it and turned her attention on Kiya. Although she was mending things (slowly) with her father it was still a relationship full of bitterness. It would take a long time to heal the emotional scars. "I wonder if the teachers understand that detention really doesn't work all that well any more," Lark mused, half to herself and half to Kiya. "We sit here for what...an hour, hour and a half and then go home." So she would be a little late for dinner at the mess hall. Oh noes!

It wasn't very often that you would find someone that actually had a sense of humor in detention. Half the time they were either heads down in a book or on their phones, or they where trying to find something to do. A sense of humor, or at least anything that Kiya would find funny, wasn't on that list for a reason. Kiya would always be in detention but for different reasons than everyone else, or at least most other people. Most of the time it would be just for sleeping in class or for not finishing her home, although she was surprised that her leadership position hadn't been taken away because the amount of time that she would actually spend in her over the entire year. "Awesome," Kiya said, just like she usually would. It was funny for some people that really knew her because she was so predictable with what she would say and do, "Don't worry, I have no intention of even touching any sort of work during detention!" That was defiantly true, that was really the last thing that she wanted to do. It was one of the many reasons why she would be in detention, for the most part.
There was only one thing that she could think. All the people that she seemed to meet in detention had really pretty names. She was just over that at this point, it was just detention in her eyes. It was the perfect place to meet a new friend, now wasn't it. "Lark, that is a really pretty name!" Well, she was going to say it sooner or later now wasn't she, might as well do it now then have it come out randomly. Though as soon as she was asked about what she got in here for that was different question all together. Everyone seemed to get into detention for fighting or something and she would be one of the only people that would be in for homework or sleep. "Forgot to get my homework done for the fifth time in a row. I don't remember what class it was for! What about you?" She had a feeling that Lark would think that that was pretty was weird that that was all that she was in for. "There is no logical reason to have detention because are going to end up here again soon enough for doing something similar and what not." If she had to give anything for not wanting to be in detention would be the less time that she is able to spend out of it, because she was weird like that.

Lark blinked a few times, surprised that Kiya didn't give her some sort of weird look or get upset by her comment. Not that it was really a bad comment of any sort but everyone responded to her personality differently. Usually the other person would find another place to sit or grumble something under their breath but Kiya did not seem bothered. Huh. "Excellent. I couldn't handle that. Detention is for further shirking schoolwork, not actually getting shit done." Eh, sometimes she actually did her homework if there was literally nothing else to do, or the teacher watching over the detention hall was looming over them like a hawk ready to sink its claws into their backs for not being productive. Those were the worst. At least this teacher seemed rather lax.
"Oh, uh, thanks," She replied, not quite sure how to respond to that. It sounded so genuine. Not that Lark had not received complements before--she did get them on and off--but it was quite out of the blue. "I like your name too. And it's easy to remember which is helpful." She did chuckle a little bit; names and faces were not difficult to remember most of the time but if they had something confusing like Yamahana Portzovsky or some crazy shit like that. Lark would just say fuck it and say 'hey you' instead. Kiya was simple enough though. She did manage another laugh and it was a bit louder than intended. The teacher looked up but did not say anything. Instead, went back to whatever it was they were doing. "You don't remember what class? Well...I guess either way you're here now so it doesn't really matter huh?" Remembering what class she received a detention for was a bit fruitless at this point. "Ah, I decided to pull out my phone to text my boyfriend. Eight minutes before class ended."
Lark rolled her eyes at the last comment, displaying her irritation with the teacher. It was just eight minutes! She could not get over how ridiculously stupid it was that she received the detention slip for something so close to the bell ringing. The middle of class? Yeah, would make more sense. It would still piss her off but it would be warranted. "Right?" Lark hit the desk palm down for a bit of emphasis, though it wasn't very loud. "It's sooo stupid." She rolled her head back and looked up at the ceiling. "On the other hand...if they remove detention they might come up with something worse." Lark actually wondered what sort of torture they would come up with if this current method was removed. Oh god. Maybe they would go back to making them write 'I will do my homework' one hundred times on the board or some shit. That would be annoying and time consuming and you certainly couldn't slack off while the teacher was sitting right there watching you. "What grade're you in anyway? I don't think I've seen you around." Lark figured the element thing might come up sooner or later, but grade was a safe bet at the moment.

Well, at least the two of them had something in common. As many times as Kiya had been put in detention for not doing her homework, she was never going to do it in detention, though her gaming buddies may make her do some instead of playing if they knew. They had done it many times in the past because they were ‘looking out for her’ or some shit like that. Though, she had to admit that it was a good idea to try and do something but she knew that she would only get distracted in the end. Though, she was always getting distracted. It seemed to be something that was just in her material makeup or whatever you call it. It was just the way that she was, if you didn’t like it than you could just piss off!
As soon as she had heard that Lark had liked her name all she could do was smile. Not to many people where even able to say her name right let alone think that it sounded alright. It was a nice change to everything else that she has recently. “Thanks Lark,†Well, at least Lark was right. Being a shorter name it was nice and easy to remember which was a nice change to some people that she knew that had the longest names and where really hard to remember. Though she couldn’t help but laugh a little, she never really remembers too much in her day. “Of course, though I can’t remember what I had for breakfast this morning so I don’t know how I am going to remember to bring or even do homework for a class!†That was true, well, just a little too true for Kiya’s liking. This was a very recurring thing for the eleventh grader and it wasn’t really helping anything. Once she had heard what Lark had been put in detention for she couldn’t help but smile? “Nawh,†Well, you have to admit, that it some sort of small way, was just a little cute, “That is sweet, he must be a nice one to get someone as awesome as you.†Well, as far as Kiya was concerned Lark was already a good friend.
The two of them had been on the topic of banning detention, which by the way would make Kiya want to work more often, but not really. It wasn’t really helping anymore at all and all the people that where in here and been in here before and many times before that. Though Lark had a really good point, half of the people that came into detention had a good reason for it. They would have been in a fight or something like that and this was their punishment. “That is very true. They might just make this worse around this place. The last thing we need is another war, am I right!†It was true. She could remember the last war and she hated it so much, even though she did stay out of it as much as she could. As soon as Lark had asked her grade she could help but think. It was the same for Kiya, she really hadn’t seen Lark around the place meaning that she wasn’t in her year, “I am in the eleventh year, fifteen at the moment, what about you?â€

"Ah, you're welcome," Lark replied, shrugging a little bit. She enjoyed complementing people if she thought they were deserving of it and so long as it did not make things too awkward. Sometimes her affections for others came across a bit less...friendly, but most people who knew her understood she meant well. Occasionally--like now--the complement came out fairly normal. She laughed, clearly amused by Kiya's memory. Now that she thought about it her memory of this morning was a bit fuzzy as well. Did not help that she was not much of a morning person. "Well...I guess you could write all of that shit down," She suggested, tapping her chin as she thought on this matter. It was not all that serious but still. It gave her something to do at least. "Then again, writing down to remember what you ate for breakfast wouldn't make much sense so I nix that I idea I guess." Lark briefly pondered how strange it would be to have to write down everything you had done throughout the day, and what you had to do later on just so you could keep track. She would probably forget to write things down. Forgetting to remember not to forget. That was so confusing.
Kiya's complement was a bit unexpected, and for a moment Lark could only stare at her with a bemused expression before trying to come up with something coherent. "He is nice. One of the nicest guys I know, actually." And that was the honest truth. Her voice held a gentle fondness that was only present when she spoke of Ashton. He made her happy. Her friends made her happy too, of course, otherwise she would not have kept them around. She picked up her hand and curled her fingers over, glancing at her nails as though she were simply too good for the world. "Yeah, I am pretty awesome aren't I? I mean, no one can best me." It was spoken seriously but even as Lark looked at Kiya there was the hint of a smirk to betray her. She was cocky about the things she was good at but thinking she was truly that awesome was pushing it.
Ugh. War. No one really preferred it, she didn't think. Well, some might but they were natural fighters and enjoyed a good beat down if the opportunity arose. Lark had a temper and was not opposed to a fight but war placed everyone on edge all the time. It did not help that the past several wars forced her to be even more bitter towards her best friend when they were obviously not enemies. I don't have to do that now though. Switching sides was, she decided, one of the best choices she'd made in a long while. "Yeah hopefully we can avoid one of those. The last thing I want--or need--are a bunch of dicks picking fights with everyone and their mom." In other words, Lark was not interested in having her anger flare up every five seconds or every time she met an enemy's gaze. Then it would go from the almost therapeutic outbursts to blow off steam to constant rage. She would sleep for days if that were the case. "Ah, so a year under me. I'm seventeen and in twelfth grade." That would explain why she had not seen Kiya in class. It was strange to think that, after this year, she would be a freshman in college. "And of course the age old question...what element?"

To Kiya, everything seemed different, sometimes just simple things like playing a game would start to become real in her head. She was pretty sure that that was what was to fault when it came to her rubbish memory! It wasn’t like she was the worst scoring student at school, though for some of her teacher that was debateable. Even just small things like remembering to do homework or put something in her bag was missed and forgotten within a couple of minutes. “I would do that, you know, writing it down…” This was where Kiya found that she was different to many other people that she knew, she was able to know what she did wrong and then just make fun of herself, in perspective of course, “If I ever remembered to write it down in the first place. I am getting better though!” She said while having a massive smile on her face which looked as if it was a big as that cat in Alice in Wonderland which she had forgotten. Well, old habits die hard!
As soon as Lark had begun to talk about her boyfriend Kiya couldn’t help but smile, that was something that she had always wanted but her past was her past and that was something that she wouldn’t be able to run away from. Sure she had crushes on a couple of guys at the moment but it always just seemed as if she wouldn’t be able to get far with anyone because of her past. Kiya was waiting for that one guy who would be her hero and she never knew when that was going to happen, that was for sure. For one thing, Kiya could tell that whoever Lark was going out with at the moment had to be someone really special to her and that was something that she could go along with, any day but as soon as Lark had made the comment about herself being awesome Kiya couldn’t help but just play along. “That is so true, you great awesome one!” She said while bowing her head, though there was no way that she could keep a straight face and soon after began to laugh.
There hadn’t been a war while she had been in leadership and that wasn’t something that she really wanted to happen now that she was a leader. Being a leader was awesome but she always knew that that was the downside to it. “You just hit the nail on the head, Lark. The last thing I want or even need right now is another one!” It was true, Kiya liked the way that the school was at the moment. Everyone was alright with everyone and the only thing that went down was small fights here and there between people. It wasn’t like she had been in any at the moment or anything, but it was more the fact that she wasn’t too proud of that and it was something that she would rather forget about.
It was always nice to talk to someone about just the natural stuff. Just talking about yourself with someone who was also talking about themselves because you had only just met and it was super special awesome and all that type of stuff. It was really nice to know that she was talking to someone that was able to talk about themselves and not have to boast about everything they have ever done because they need the attention. As soon as the mighty question of what element she was in. That was what decided what groups the school had and how wars would begin. “I am in wind, I just starting being the wind female leader a few months ago. It is pretty awesome, but, what about you?”

Lark had a good memory. It was not always the most reliable thing in a given day but the important things on her 'to do' list usually remained at the forefront of her mind. Stress could certainly alter that, though, and knew very well what her homework record was like when dealing with Frank and the issues at home. "Well, improvement is always good," Lark agreed with a nod. "I guess as long as you're able to function that's all that matters right?" At least she was not misplacing her head or any pertinent body parts, because that would be about the time one would need to learn how to remember things. Of course, if you did not like school or homework doing said 'chores' could be easily forgotten.
"Thank you, thank you," Lark made a small mock bow, glancing at the teacher afterwards to see if they were paying any attention. Why should they? It was only detention. Two students babbling back and forth was hardly a reason to call attention to them. It wasn't like Lark was practicing her element on some poor sap by setting their hair on fire or disintegrating her homework. "I'm the most awesome person on this planet, and no one can surpass me."
Most (normal) people were not eager to have fights break out all over the Academy. She was not afraid to fight, to throw a punch or launch a flaming fist of fury, but searching for it was not something she was eager to do. Perhaps being with Ashton and the other Earths did encourage this a little bit; the last thing Lark wanted was to cause problems for her new allies. At least, if she could help it. "It doesn't really do anyone any good, so yeah. But I guess if it does go down I'll do what's necessary to protect my allies." So long as they did not mind her protection. Some of them certainly did not fight, nor were they interested in it, so having a few people willing to become a shield was probably beneficial. Lark tilted her head back and nodded. Wind was good. She had a feeling that if Kiya had been a Fire or a Thunder this conversation would probably wind up taking a turn for the worst. "Ah, congrats on the leader position. That's definitely not an easy thing to take up, so good luck with it." A few years ago she had considered being the leader but when Josh switched sides loyalty had become too fickle. Too many things would have made her position a bit of a lie. "I'm a Fire, actually. Twice removed. Playing for the opposing team and all that." She wiggled to fingers to portray that she was in fact a traitor; there was no shame in where she was now and had no qualms with stating it aloud.

Oh god, detention was always better when you have someone to share it with, even if it was someone that you had only just met and they were just as awesome as anything. Even just joking around like they were was really good for Kiya, seeing as she really doesn’t get out of her room to much. It was as soon as Lark had started to take her take her finishing bows that she really couldn’t keep her laughter in. It was so funny. The bowing and the clapping and everything had started. It really wasn’t like she actually cared about what the teacher on duty thought about what was going on with the two. From the look of it wasn’t even like the teacher cared what so ever, which was always a good thing, they did however have their limits and Kiya really didn’t want to know this teachers. “All how the mighty amazing awesome one!” It was the icing on the cake of course.
As soon as Kiya had heard about Lark’s view on allies and things like that she really couldn’t help but smile. It wasn’t like she really she was a very judgemental person when it came to that sort of stuff, it was more the fact that she had the same views about this stuff as she herself did and that was really cool, in Kiya’s books anyways. Kiya had always been someone that would stick up for the ones around her and would always be there for the people around her if they wanted the help of course. The last thing she wanted was to help people that really didn’t want it, it just wasn’t the way that she rolled. “I can see where you are coming from and I totally agree!” Though, as soon as Kiya had gave her congratulations on Kiya getting the leadership position she really couldn’t help but want to hug the girl that was current sitting in front of her. “Thank you so much, I am only try can’t I?” Even though she had made it sound like a question it really wasn’t, she had always tried her best, even though sometimes it really didn’t look like it. Fire. That was alright, considering she had changed sides. It’s not like she would have stopped being friends with Lark if she hadn’t changed sides, it was just a little nicer to know that she had. “That’s so awesome! It so awesome to know that!” She said with a massive smile on her face. It wasn’t that she wanted to give off that vibe to her new friends, she was just a little glad that she was playing for her side and no another.

At least Kiya was willing to go along with Lark and her small antics, even if they could potentially get them in trouble. Some teachers were pretty lenient and did not say too much but others had sticks up their ass and got upset over every little infraction that could possibly be executed by the students. It did not help that they were in detention, so most of the teachers probably automatically assumed that the kids would be trouble makers. Lark could be if she so desired but right now it was just harmless fun and laughter. Screw the teacher, she would get over it. "The amazing one..." The Fire thought on this for a moment, tapping her chin before nodding to the other girl in agreement with a smile on her face. "I think I can live with that title. Sounds big and important." Maybe she could use that at some point in the future.
Lark smiled a little wider now, glad that someone else agreed with her views. Sure there would be others that probably felt the same but she was not about to walk around the school and take a poll. Instead she nodded and gave Kiya a look of approval, shoving her thumb up in the air to further affirm this. "Oh, you're welcome. Trying is the most important thing, I think. I definitely don't envy any of the leaders though." She would get her hands dirty if she had to, and while she did consider the position a while back it would not be an easy thing to take on. More power to them. She nodded again, fiddling with the desk a little bit. Even though Lark made the choice to switch on her own it always helped to hear people approve of her decision. She could not be happier where she was at, with Ashton, Josh, Nell, and quite a few others as well.
Just as she was about to say something else, the bell rang to dismiss the students and Lark could not wait to go and see her boyfriend for a little while. Glancing at Kiya, she stood up and snagged her bookbag off of the floor in the process. "It was nice to meet you Kiya," Lark gave her a two-finger salute and a grin. "Hopefully we'll meet up again. Maybe grab some Timmie's or something." Because food was always good. With another tiny nod, the girl turned and left the detention hall in hopes that she had enough time to see Ashton.

Nicknames and titles where what got a person through high school. It was what a person was known as and what people would call you if you were to run into on the streets years after graduation, it was important even though it never really seemed like it. ‘The amazing one’ was something that seemed to be an amazing that Kiya really hoped would stick for the elder fire girl. “You do have a point there, very important!” Well, it really did. It sounded like a nicknames of someone that was going to do something really good and was going to be just amazing in whatever they did, and Kiya couldn’t think of anyone at this currently other than the Lark to have such a title!
Trying was always second to actually doing your best, or at least that was what Kiya’s parents had always said. You could always try your best but as soon as you did your best you could be on your way, was something that her mother had always told her when she had some really hard homework or assignment to do and even though it sounded really weird it had always gotten her through it, that was for sure. Though as soon as Lark had mentioned that she really didn’t envy the leader and she couldn’t help but smile, “I was the same a one point, but if you can’t beat them then just join them!”
The bell was always something the meant freedom to everyone! It was a blessed notice that either said ‘you are free!’ or ‘only a little white to go!’ and it was something that Kiya loved just a little too much! “It was really nice to meet you too Lark!” It was always a good day when you are able to meet someone who seems to be someone who you would be long-time friends with! “Go down to Timmie’s on most nights, I probably be working! We can totally hang out then!” You never know when working at a place could turn into a conversation, it had happened before that was for sure!
