Kai rubbed his wet hair with the towel. He was in his dorm room getting ready for a day out. It was Saturday afternoon and he had managed to convince his best friend to go down to the Hallow with him and this was something he was excited. Emmett wasn't one that like to leave the campus all that often. So anytime Emmett actually said yes Kai made sure that he held him to it. This wasn't like a date or anything, after all Emmett was Kai's best friend but the thunder wasn't one that did well in big crowds so they kind of avoided leaving campus but on rare occasion Kai and sometimes Isabella were able to convince him to go out into the big bad world on rare occasion. This was one of those days and Kai was more than ready for it. Of course he wouldn't push his friend to stay out too long. Just as long as Emmett could handle. Any amount of time though was enough for Kai. Kai hung up the towel and put on his dress shirt. When that was button up he put on a black vest. Once that was done he gave himself a quick look see in the mirror. He'd say that it looked good. He picked up his fedora and placed it on his head at just the right angle. Once he was set he grabbed his bag on things and was out the door. He walked past the common room of his dormitories and made his way down the steps of the tower. The wind dormitories were located in one of the towers of the castle. The other tower housed the thunder dormitories. The castle itself wasn't exactly blooming with life right now. Being a weekend most people were outside all around the campus or down at the Hallow. Kai hoped that since it was afternoon time not many would be at Hallow until later tonight. That way he wouldn't have to worry too much about Emmett wanting to leave earlier. As Kai was making his leg down the steps he text Emmett telling him he'd meet him at the front gates where the bus passed by all day. It wasn't long before Kai was walking out of the castle that was the academy and down the pathway that led to the main gates of the school. He really hoped that Emmett wouldn't flake out. The bus would be there in about five minutes and Emmett was no where in site.

Why. Just why.
Why did he always find himself subjecting to this kind of torture? Was he some kind of sick masochist who enjoyed inflicting pain both physically and emotionally straining to him? It seemed about right.
Sighing, Emmett rolled off his bed grudgingly, a permanent frown plastered on his face. He was going to be meeting his best friend, Kai, near the front gates. They were going into Maple Hollow (a place Emmett only ventured into a handful of times a year) and he was dreading it. Just the thought of it made the irritable Thunder want to crawl into his bed and go back to sleep. He was about to, too—but he caught a glimpse of his reflection in the mirror hanging from the door of his dorm. It was the regular old Emmett—the messy black hair, the dark eyes, the frown that was nearly always on his face—but he cringed. This was the problem. Every day he holed himself up in his dorm room because of his phobia. It was like his safe haven—there was no way his phobia would be able to catch up with Emmett in the comfort of his room. But it was also his prison—it was his safe haven, of course, but every time he holed himself in here, it was like burying himself deeper. Emmett didn’t have an advantage—he was just letting his phobia get the better of him. And so, that is why Emmett agreed to let Kai take him out. Normally the Thunder would shoot down any suggestions to go into Maple Hallow without any exceptions, but lately he’d been feeling guilty about it. More like, he was feeling selfish. That’s another reason why he agreed. Besides, Kai had one killer puppy dog pout. Not that Emmett would admit to it.
He glanced at the clock and sighed. He still had some time left to kill until they actually had to meet each other, but what could he do? Emmett grudgingly began grumbling to himself and left anyways. He hated over thinking things—besides, it’s not like he had any social life outside of a handful of friends. Kai was really the only person he talked to on a daily basis. Or considered close, for that matter. Which was strange, apparently, because they were so different from each other. Meh, details. People tended to butt into other’s people business, so Emmett didn’t mind anyways. He ended up just heading towards their meeting place and upon checking his phone, it was still pretty early. Sighing, he headed towards a nearby tree and sat down in the shade, leaning against the thick trunk. It was rather nice, considered it had been hot as hell the past few weeks. Summer. He hated it. Mostly for its heat, considering he had enough of that with his hot-headed alliance. Don’t get him wrong—he tolerated them (to an extent), but their tempers annoyed the fuck out of him. Granted, being a Thunder, it was easy to annoy him, but still.
A vibrate in his pocket broke him out of his thoughts and he took out his phone, blinking at the screen. Well, yeah, I’m already here, he sarcastically thought to himself. Emmett shoved his phone back into his pocket and sighed, waiting as he closed his eyes. Man, he was going to miss his afternoon nap…
Familiar footsteps began approaching and he opened his eyes, peering into the sunlight. It was Kai, that was for sure, but Emmett stayed where he was and instead just watched his Wind best friend look around in confusion. He had to bite back an amused laugh and got up, dusting off grass and dirt from his pants and walked towards Kai, silently standing next to him. It wasn’t like Emmett to flake out (unless he had a really good reason to, or he just didn’t feel like it) but he always made exceptions for his best friend. Well, sort of. Kai was just lucky Emmett didn’t shock him at the mention of Maple Hallow. “You know,” he finally said, breaking the silence. “If I suffer from one of my panic attacks because of this trip, I’m holding you responsible for my medical bills.”

It had gotten to the point where Kai always began to question whether it was a good idea to hang out with Emmett in the Hallow like this. Kai knew that Emmett didn't do being around so many people and the couple of times that Kai's asked a few times he was lucky enough to get a yes but he never pushed the subject if Emmett wasn't up for it. He respected his best friend to drop the subject. Normally they spent their time around the campus. Correction, Kai spent a lot of his time around campus, most of the time practicing his violin while Emmett slept away in his room. When they hung out together they had fun. At least he thought they did. The few times that Kai had been able to drag Emmett out of the castle weren't very bad. Could have been worse at least. On more than one occasion Kai had gotten questioned as to why he had grown so close to Emmett. How was it that they were able to get along so well despite how completely opposite they were. He always smiled at these question because even he didn't know the right answer to it. They just did and Kai didn't care. He was happy with it. Kai just waited for Emmett not realizing the thunder was even there. He jumped back at bit by the sudden arrival of Emmett's voice. " Whoa." he said startled. Kai was definitely one that was easily startled. " I'll accept any responsibility." he said teasingly. Kai was glad that Emmett came after all. He would have been a bit disappointed but would have understood if Emmett hadn't shown up in the end. " I'm glad you came. The bus should be here soon." he said. The bus could actually be seen approaching and would arrived in just a few minutes. " Try to enjoy yourself a bit. It's not like we're going to be out all day and night. A few hours won't kill you. Much." he said with a mix of encouragement and joking. " The moment you want to come back we're back. And I promise to have you back for your evening nap." he said as the bus pulled up. " Ready?"

Emmett rolled his eyes. It was so easy to startle Kai. He faintly wondered what it’d be like to drag the Wind to a horror movie (you know, for revenge!) and he cracked a smirk at just imagining Kai’s face. Too hilarious. “Still a scaredy cat, I see,” he observed flatly, his hands fiddling with his cell phone. It was a habit when he was nervous—which was rare, but times like these, he’d be fiddling with just about anything. Emmett’s face showed no emotion and rarely spoke what was on his mind, so it was hard to tell what he was feeling or thinking—and Kai, being his best friend, probably knew that. It was also probably why Kai was so observant with the Thunder. “You better,” Emmett mumbled. Okay, that was a lie. He didn’t want Kai to take full responsibility (they were friends after all) but he at least wanted to be compensated in the best friend kind of way. Like, being given special treatment. That was always fun, but Kai’s puppy dog eyes were like Kryptonite to Superman. Emmett wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the situation, even with as much as he’d like to.
“Yeah, yeah. Let’s get it over with.” Emmett waved his hand dismissively, pretending to be nonchalant about this whole trip. But he was terrified—at least, on the inside. It’s been a while since he went to Maple Hallow, and the last time he did he ended up with a panic attack. It was a busy town, even though it was small, but Emmett wanted to face this fear of his. He wasn’t going to let it take over his life. “Gee, good to know my best friend cares so much.” Emmett rolled his eyes at him, his lips in a frown though his eyes were playful. He couldn’t ever really be upset with Kai. More like, annoyed with. But that was normal for a Thunder. And at this moment, he was annoyed. Probably because he skipped out on his afternoon nap for this. “Fine. And no complaining.” He sent the Wind a glance, his eyebrows raised. “And you get to treat me to ice cream.” It was the least he could do for dragging the Thunder out.
As the bus pulled up, Emmett grew increasingly nervous. He hid it well, though the electricity began to sputter out of control. He took a deep breath and nodded at Kai, heading onto the bus and walking straight to the seats in the back, near the window. Thankfully the bus was pretty empty, only having a few occupants. The bus began to move again shortly after, the unsmooth ride and bright sunlight giving Emmett a headache. He turned towards Kai, his back pressed against the window, and finally spoke up again. “When was the last time we ever hung out? Literally out.”

" I'm not a scaredy cat." he said a tad defensively as he fixed his fedora which had slid off a bit when he had gotten scared by Emmett. Okay, maybe he was just a tad scaredy cat. Let's just say that he didn't like getting sneaked upon. Kai was one that could be very lost in thought at times and thus easily startled. Let's just say that he wouldn't fair very well in say a horror film. That was why he avoided them like the plague. He'd make an exception of course if say Emmett asked him but that was a different situation and it wouldn't be like he'd enjoy it. He'd just endure it for his best friend who was currently fiddling with his phone which did not go unnoticed by the wind. Emmett was not the kind of person that you could tell what he was feeling from his facial expression like say Kai was. With the thunder you had to know what signs to look forward to even get the faintest clue to what he was thinking and at the moment Kai could tell that he was getting nervous. It was like this was the first time he'd seen Emmett fiddle around like that but Kai didn't question it. He didn't want to embarrass Emmett or anything by calling him out on it so instead he just went on casually as if everything was relatively okay. " I've no doubt you'll hold me to it." he said jokingly, trying to lighten the mood as they went on their way. " Love your enthusiasm Emmett." he said slightly giggling. He wasn't surprised by the thunder's current mood but sadly he did find it a bit amusing which was wrong to think considering this was his friend he was talking about. " Of course. That's why you keep me around. If not your life would be very dull." he said playfully with a smile. Kai knew that he probably wasn't the easiest person to be around for someone like Emmett but he put up with him which Kai was thankful for. He just smiled again at Emmett when he said that Kai would owe him ice cream. He gave him a fake salut before saying. " Yes sir." The bus ride itself wasn't very long considering how close the school was to Maple Hallow. To be honest Emmett's question caught him of guard a bit. "" Umm, it's been a while. But we've been busy and what not." he said trying to downplay it. In reality it had been a long while since they hung out like this. They hung out of course most of the time around campus which was more than okay with Kai of course but didn't mean he didn't like the times they did hang out off campus along with Isabella. He didn't wan to make Emmett feel bad though or anything. " Isabella will be sad that she missed out though. She said she had something to do with her brother out of town and was going to have to take a rain check. So we'll just have to plan for another day." he said trying to change the topic to a more brighter note.

Emmett snorted, rolling his eyes. "Yes. You are." It was probably a good idea from him to back off a bit. His usual bad mood always started things on the wrong foot and even though he knew Kai understood, it felt like Emmett was taking advantage of his friend's patience, or more like not appreciating it enough. That wasn't his intentions, but Emmett was absolutely horrible with anything that dealt with emotions, so things just... came out wrong. A bit too cynical. Sarcastic. But hey, that's Emmett for you. Or just a Thunder, really. They all had that cynical-ness that would even put an Earth's optimism crumble under one pessimistic comment. It was like, programmed for every Thunder to be stoic and irritated, even with the smallest of things. Maybe that's why it was so easy for the Wind to identify when Emmett was worried, or nervous, or anything other than his usual annoyance. He thought of it as both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because he didn't have to explain himself, a curse because it said everything. It was either a win or lose situation and he guessed it depended on his mood, but it was mostly a lose situation. He hated making it known that he was any of the above things. It was a weakness, and Emmett just had too much to lose if any of them were found out. "You know me so well." Being a Thunder, he tended to hold grudges, so with any chance he got, he made sure he got some repayment. Unfortunately, it was the same with Kai, but ten times less intense. At least he's giving some slack for a friend.
"Thanks. I hate yours." Kai was the kind of person who was excited for anything and sometimes, just sometimes, Emmett was annoyed. He was the exact opposite, so any type of enthusiasm put him off. That was why he was annoyed with Waters more than anything. Their obnoxious smiling faces made him want to choke something to death. "Oh, yeah. Totally, Kai. How on earth would I be able to live without you?" Emmett asked sarcastically, though in the back of his mind, his question really stuck. What would he do? Kai was his best friend, and he changed the Thunder's perspective on so many things. His mind was a little broader, all thanks to him. Emmett wasn't a hermit anymore, at least. "I keep you around because you're my best friend," he then said casually, looking across the street. "I kind of have to."
Emmett frowned slightly. He had a feeling Kai would try not to make it sound bad as it is an he grew frustrated. "Don't sugarcoat this." He side glanced at the Wind with a pointed gaze. Emmett just wanted the truth and if it hurt him, then damn. It was at least better than trying to downplay to try to make him feel better about being a shitty friend. Emmett sat through silence, looking out the window as Kai continued to talk. It was just a blur of words, really, and he only picked out a couple words that peaked his interest, but nothing else. "Right. Bella." Emmett then sighed again. She was his other best friend, though he and Bella weren't nearly as close as her and Kai, they were still friends. It was like a second blow to the stomach and he clicked his tongue in annoyance at himself. How could such a small aspect about himself create such a clusterfuck that sucked up him and the people around him?

" Fine. We'll just agree to disagree." he said. They could go on about this for a while and when it really came down to it Emmett was right about the fact that Kai could be easily startled at times. There was no point in arguing about it with Emmett considering how stubborn the thunder can be. So he'd just let it go. He'd rather enjoy the time they would spending. That was whole the point of this trip. To enjoy some time as friends since they didn't do so very often. " That's a shocker." Kai said teasingly. Kai didn't take what Emmett said as an insult. The wind that sometimes his enthusiasm got the best of him and was well aware that Emmett was one for that. Basically this was Emmett's way of telling him to calm it down a bit. He didn't want to cause too much annoyance for the thunder. There was a reason that Emmett disliked waters after all. " It's a wonder you made it as long as you did." he said cheekily. This was part of their relationship. this back and forth sarcastic bantering that they went through. They were comfortable enough to know that that was all it was, jokes and they knew when to not cross the line. Of course Emmett's small confession did touch Kai. After all the the thunder wasn't one to show affection or emotion all that well so something as simple as that meant a lot. He couldn't help but smirk a bit. " Aww Em. I'm touched. You do care." He said, faking a tear and placing a hand over his heart. They were nearing their destination when Emmett asked about the last time they had actually gone out of school grounds. " I'm not." he said defensively when in reality he was. How long had it been? A couple months maybe? Close to a year? Could it be that long? It was long enough that even Kai didn't remember when and obviously nor did Emmett. " It's been a while. Just leave it at that. Point is that we're hanging out today." he said, hoping that Emmett left it at that. It was enough for him so hopefully it could be enough for Emmett. Kai was disappointed that their friend Bella wouldn't be able to join them today. Since it wasn't often that they were able to get Emmett out they liked to take advantage of it but this trip hadn't gone that way. Hopefully they would be able to convince Emmett for another trip sooner than later. The thunder's sigh though did worry Kai a bit. " What's up?Did you change your mind about today?" he asked curiously as the bus came to a stop. Would be the end of the rode for today?

Emmett rolled his eyes, though the corner of his mouth twitched into something that resembled a smile. “Always the middle man,” he mumbled under his breath—though it wasn’t meant to be offensive, it was the honest truth. Kai was neutral in every form of his being, probably something Emmett envied without knowing. He had pride being a Thunder, but the trivial quarrels between alliances made him… tired. Annoyed. Like he was wasting his energy for nothing but his pride. Kai didn’t have to worry about it too much, but considering his two best friends were Thunder and Fire, he kind of already picked a side. At least he hoped, anyways. Emmett wouldn’t like to think of Kai as an enemy nor treat him like one.
He rolled his eyes again. The Wind’s never ending understanding for Emmett’s ways never ceased to amaze him. Now that he thought about it, he didn’t even remember a time where Kai was angry at him. Or at anyone, for that matter. He cringed. Emmett’s first thought was that maybe Kai had pent up anger and that one day he’d just… explode. Emmett wouldn’t know how to react and in the back of his mind, he had no problem thinking that it’d probably be because of him. People could only deal with so much, even if they were best friends. “Of course. My heart longs for you every day that we are apart.” God, Emmett nearly gagged while he said that. He was surprised he even managed to say it in the first place. Good thing they were alone or he’d punch anyone who was within earshot. “… don’t call me that,” he snapped, though his tone of voice was light. Em. Ugh. He did not deal very well with nicknames. It was so… cutesy. Which Emmett was not. Not by a long shot. Kai was probably the only person who’d get away with it without being stared down until he was mush.
“Don’t lie to me,” he shot back, glancing at the Wind before turning his attention to the window. This ride was agonizingly slow; everything outside felt like it was lagging, creating an unsettling atmosphere. This conversation didn’t even compare. It was agonizingly painful. He hated talking about stuff like this. He’d rather be ignorant, but wouldn’t compensate for being a shitty friend. “Be more specific. “A while” is actually “too long.” See? That wasn’t hard.” He narrowed his gaze, falling silent for a moment before sighing. “Sorry.” Emmett glanced at him, his expression softening from the cold, stiff features before he turned away again as if it never happened. He wasn’t good with apologies; that much was obvious, but he’d do it when he wanted to. And he did. Kai was a forgiving person but Emmett didn’t want to take his chances. He took a deep breath when he felt the bus stop, clenching his jaw before he stood up. “No point now,” Emmett answered, shoving his hands into his pockets. “We’re here already, aren’t we?” He looked down and glanced at his friend, a small, quick smile on his face, before heading up the aisle to exit the bus.

Kai didn't catch what Emmett had said about him being a middle man but it was the truth after all and that mostly came from his being a wind elemental probably. That was how winds were, they were a pot of varying personalities. That being said winds tend to flock towards those who they meshed with the most. If it were a bit more of aggressive type then that person would probably be hanging out with fires and thunders. The kinder and less in your face winds can most likely be found with waters and earths. It was just how the way things worked. "You know me. No point in fighting over something I probably won't win." Although winds were a neutral party, it didn't mean that each individual wouldn't pick a side if ever a war started. Thus why Kai's friendship with Emmett and Isabella were somewhat peculiar. Well, perhaps not so much Isabella since they had similar personality traits but definitely with Emmett. Emmett was a true thunder in many ways, sometimes cold, reserved, things that were completely opposite to that of Kai. Yet, here they were. Despite their obvious differences in personality they made it work. He didn't have many friends who were fires and thunders, majority were fellow winds or waters and earths and if ever a war were to happen in which he had to pick he feared what would happen. He could only hope something such as that would never occur.
Okay, so Emmett's next statement nearly had Kai in a fit of giggles but he did a very good job of holding it back, well, mostly holding back. A few laughs did escape his lips but nothing drastic. Affection of any kind was not something that came from Emmett very often. His confession about Kai being his best friend and thus why he kept the wind around was a rare thing that showed the Emmett did care about their friendship and thus touching to Kai but something like what followed that of course he knew was simply Emmett being his usual sarcastic self and he would admit that it was quite amusing. "Wow. Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?" he teased. "That must have hurt to say. Be careful, I may think you're going soft on me." He said with a small smile. Calling the thunder 'Em' had been a small slip of the tongue. Kai didn't say that often because he knew that the thunder didn't exactly care for it, or nicknames of any kind for that matter. Kai and Isabella were probably the only ones who got away with it but Kai didn't say it all the time. Didn't want to earn a death glare from Emmett for overdoing it. "Fine. I'll refrain from nicknames." he said with a small mocking salute.
Then of course things had to get awkward for a bit. As long as Kai knew Emmett he really never got use to when the sudden change in character occurred when he'd frustrate or slightly anger the thunder. He knew some of the things that could set Emmett off that way and yet sometimes Kai would forget and do so anyways. Then this would happen, Emmett may snap and after a second soften and feel guilty which was Kai's fault. Kai knew better and yet still managed to be an idiot sometimes. He sighed "It's not your fault of course. I should have just been honest. What kind of friend am I if I don't tell you the truth?" He said softly and kindly with a light smile, trying to lighten the mood. The end of this bus ride had come to its end and thus it was time to get off. He returned Emmett's smile and followed the thunder, stepping of the bus. He stretched his arms and took a breath. They had arrived and Kai could only hope that this trip wouldn't turn into a disaster. "Now I'm craving that ice cream. You ready?" He said preparing to walk towards the ice cream parlour. He could nearly smell the ice cream and it made him crave it even more.

It sometimes slightly bothered Emmett that Kai was so… friendly. He was a wind, yes, and he was neutral, yes. He could make a wide variety of friends and no one would bat an eyelash at it. Emmett sort of envied him for that; not having someone breathe down your neck at your every move—but that also made him uneasy. If there was ever another war, he would be stuck in the middle. Even though they were best friends, Emmett couldn’t help but feel uneasy about the Wind’s choices. He just hoped it wouldn’t pin them against each other. Emmett wasn’t exactly the greatest friend, after all. No matter how hard he tried to be, even now, it was hard to open up a bit to Kai. A Thunder’s nature, perhaps? Maybe that was why Emmett was s surprised he stayed around. “Glad you admit it,” he said, the corners of his lips twitching bit. “I don’t think we’d ever agree on the subject, anyway.” Rather, they couldn’t. It was usually just Emmett being stubborn and Kai eventually giving up and giving the Thunder what he wanted: a win. It reminded him slightly of an exasperated mother giving into her bratty six year old son.
Emmett rolled his eyes as his friend laughed. He almost felt ashamed for even saying such a… a—cheesy thing. He did laugh slightly also, shaking his head at himself. “Don’t even mention to Bella I said that.” Emmett shuddered, shrinking in his seat at the thought. The girl had a way to make fun of him—it was funny at first, but knowing him he’d get annoyed, fast. It wasn’t like he could help it either. He scoffed to himself, rolling his eyes. “Me? Soft? You’re kidding. Never.” Emmett could never define himself as “soft.” Hell would have to freeze over before that happened or someone just so happened to be crying. Ugh. He couldn’t stand crying, but it tugged on his heartstrings a bit. Not that he’d admit that aloud. “Thank you,” he sighed in relief, kicking his legs up to rest on the seat in front of him. He’d never been fond of nicknames. “You’re lucky your name barely has any variations to it, otherwise I’d be all over it.” He rolled his eyes. Kai was a hard name to come up with nicknames as it was just one syllable, so it was easy to steer clear from the nickname shenanigans.
Emmett didn’t understand his own temper sometimes. It’s not like he intended on snapping at Kai—it just… happened. Like all the other times. He wasn’t proud of it, but he was grateful Kai didn’t take it to heart. At least, he hoped he didn’t. And so he kept silent as the Wind spoke, nodding absentmindedly though he was listening attentively. Kai was already a good friend. Emmett nudged him lightly with his shoulder, offering a small smile before climbing off the bus, shoving his hands into his pockets. He scanned the area, tensing slightly as a group of people walked by, chattering excitedly, and was briefly distracted when Kai spoke again. “As long as it’s still your treat,” he said lazily, heading toward the direction of the ice cream parlour.

A small laugh escaped his lips. "No, we probably couldn't." And it was probably best that way right?Good friends didn't need to agree on everything, they just needed to accept the other's opinions. Most of the time Kai was probably on the loosing side though. Kai could be stubborn when he wanted but when it came to being around Emmett he never had the energy to do so. He was definitely a lot more passive when around the thunder. He wasn't sure why but it was just the way things turned out. He really didn't question it either. What was the point in that? The two had a good thing going so why worry about the details?
Oh, what Bella would have given to just hear what Emmett said. "Bella would have killed to hear you say that. She'd never let it go." Bella loved to tease Emmett. She had more guts to do so than him. Kai was well aware that it annoyed Emmett but sometimes he found it far to amusing. Kai gave him an unconvinced look. He didn't expect Emmett to suddenly become one that expressed himself all the time but a part of him perhaps hoped that with friends like himself and Bella maybe a little piece of their more brighter sides would rub off on him even if in the slightest amount. It would be interesting to see if that ever happened but Kai wasn't about to hold his breath. "I could just imagine. My name doesn't really lend itself to nicknames. I guess it depends on the name but I don't mind the idea of a nickname. It'd be pretty I think." What kind of nickname could you come up with from Kai? Not exactly many jumping out but he would have found a nickname interesting, of course it'd probably have to depend on the name.
Kai returned Emmett's small smile. He hated when situations became awkward between the two. It didn't feel right so he was always much happier when whatever tension rose. "As promised." he said opening the door to the parlour waiting for Emmett to enter first before he did. The place wasn't all that busy which was good. "Whatever you want is your's." he encouraged before they got to the counter. He had promised to treat Emmett and wasn't about to go back on his word.

Emmett chuckled back, stretching and putting an arm around the Wind, squeezing his arm slightly before letting his arm drop. It was somewhat a sign of… affection? Was that the word for it? It left a way too sweet aftertaste in his mouth and he cringed. Nope. Not affection. Just a sign of their friendship in a not so wordy way. Yeesh, that sounded even cheesier than he intended it to be. “But hey, look on the bright side,” Emmett added, grinning as he ruffled up Kai’s hair. “There’s still hope.” For winning against him, of course. He chuckled as he was just kidding, but he fiddled with the thought in his head for a bit. Emmett was stubborn, that was for sure, and he rarely ever admitted defeat in an argument or in fights. Was it really that impossible?
“Which is why you’ll never tell her,” he said, shooting Kai a look. If there was one thing Bella enjoyed, it was teasing the fuck out of him. It did annoy him at times (oh, who is he kidding—it annoyed him all the time, but it was so hard to be angry at the small Fire. She was just so happy and bubbly, it sort of pained Emmett to be the downfall of that, so he kept his anger and irritation to himself. This was probably why he was so tolerant in the first place. Having Isabella as a best friend really called for patience or else he’d be angry the whole time. “Kai… Lee… Jackson…” Emmett said slowly to himself, trying to think of any nicknames that he could tease his friend with. He smirked to himself when he did and grinned, roughly putting him into a headlock and ruffling his hair. “I’ll call you Kailee from now on,” he said triumphantly, obviously trying to spite his friend. “It’s a pretty name, don’tcha think?”
‘As promised’ was probably a bad choice of words. Emmett loved sweets, so Kai was just asking for an empty wallet by the end of this whole thing. He pointed to the chocolate ice cream through the glass, glancing at Kai. “This one. Triple scoop. With a sugar cone,” he listed nonchalantly and headed over to a table, plopping down onto the chair lazily as he waited.

So Emmett's little hug was a bit unexpected. Okay, it was completely unexpected. He looked at the thunder with a curious look before a soft smile appeared on his lips. Emmett wasn't one to show affection all that much. Maybe a gentle smile, a light punch on occasion. Kai could expect that from him. Despite though, when the thunder did show affection, like right now, it catch Kai a bit off guard but that didn't mean it wasn't unwelcome. Kai lightly scoffed. " Some how I highly doubt that but whatever you say my friend." Kai win against Emmett? Not likely. Mostly because Kai wasn't one to argue or fight back verbally unless he saw it was absolutely necessary, which mostly was with Emmett. Why fight a battle he didn't think he'd win. Perhaps one day but not today. Kai had to hold back a snicker at Emmett. He met Emmett's gaze with a mischievous one. Yes, he wouldn't tell Bella it but that didn't mean that Emmett had to be completely aware of the same fact. Where's the harm in letting the thunder question what Kai would do? It was all in harmless fun. " Oh of course I wouldn't. My lips are sealed." he teased and locked lips together before a mischievous smile graced his lips. He liked playing with the thunder because he was one of the few people that could get away with it to an extent. Kai didn't even think much of when Emmett recited his name. What kind of nickname could you come up from it. Kai thought it pointless. Of course Emmett caught him by surprised. " You're kidding right?" he asked. He hoped his friend was kidding. There's no way he could woudl actually call him that. " Okay, okay. I promise not to tell Bella. Ever." That was not a nickname he needed falling onto Bella's lips. He would admit defeat as he normally did. Of course Emmett didn't waste time on taking Kai up on his offer, which was expected. He smiled at the thunder's straightforwardness in what he wanted. A light smile grew on his lips as he watched the thunder sit down. He faced the front counter and put his order in. Aside from Emmett's cone he got himself a triple scoop as well, only his was a scoop of chocolate and two scoops of mint. Within minutes both cones were paid for and in his hands as he walked to the table that Emmett had chosen. " One sugar cone with three scoops of chocolate for my best friend. Enjoy." he stated proudly as he handed the ice cream over before sitting done and beginning to enjoy his own ice cream. The treat was delicious. He could never get enough of ice cream. " So, do you have anything planned during the summer?"

Emmett kept his hands to himself afterwards, not really embarrassed by his display of affection. It was more unfamiliar to him than anything as he didn’t display it often, but nonetheless, he figured it’d be alright to show every once and a while. It wasn’t as if Emmett was completely heartless—if that were the case, he was pretty sure he and Kai would’ve never been friends. “Why not?” he chuckled, nudging him with his shoulder. “One of these days you’ll blow up and I won’t have anything to say.” Emmett couldn’t help but ponder that thought. Could Kai really be bottling up feelings whenever he was around the Thunder? He found it possible. Very, very, possible. Emmett was kind of a dick sometimes.
“Nope,” he said casually, popping the ‘p.’ He smirked a bit—nothing wrong with a bit of blackmail, right? Considering Kai was doing the same thing to him just a few minutes ago. It was payback. What Thunders absolutely loved. “Good. And I’ll promise not to tell Bella of your cute nickname, Kailee~” Okay, maybe he was having a bit too much fun with calling his friend that. But it was absolutely adorable, considering it could be a girl’s name. Huh. He wondered what Kai would look like as a girl. “But wouldn’t it be fun if she knew, Kailee? Just imagine all the shopping sprees and amazing makeovers.” God, Emmett nearly gagged again just at the thought of it. He hated shopping with a passion—how girls loved it, he’d never know—though it was mostly because of his phobia. Shopping = large crowds. He’d feel suffocated.
Emmett stared out the window, his fingers absentmindedly tracing the smooth tabletop as he waited for Kai. It was quite warm, actually, and he could feel the sun’s rays through the window’s glass. He tore his gaze from the window when his vision was blocked by delicious ice cream and he grinned, taking it happily as he watched his friend sit across from him. “Thanks,” he said, digging into his ice cream. It had been a long time since Emmett indulged himself with ice cream. One of the reasons was because he hated going into Maple Hallow. “Nope. I plan to sleep the days away. You?” And it was true. He liked sleep—going out and doing things was absolutely annoying to Emmett. After a moment’s silence, he hesitated, and momentarily stopped eating. “Hey, Kai?” he asked, shifting in his seat. “Mind if I ask you a question?”

Kai gave his friend an unconvinced look. "Me? Blow up? You're kidding right?" Kai could be stubborn. He could be shy. He could be various things including one to hold back his feelings and thoughts at times. It probably wasn't healthy but he thought that sometimes it was better to bite your tongue. Right? Despite that though he never felt that he was bottling it up to the point that he'd simply explode one day. Yeah, Emmett wasn't your average best friend, Kai did have to put up with stuff sometimes but wasn't that part of being close friends. Putting up with the not so wanted traits and loving the positive ones. Was Emmett the easiest person to get along with? No, not all the time but Kai still trusted him to be there when he needed him and for Kai that was enough. "Don't hold your breath my friend. I'm too cute and cool to go blowing up." He said with a small wink and peace sign.
Kailee. Just sounded so wrong. He had nothing against the name of course it just the fact that he wasn't a girl. Now he was happy that Isabella wasn't here. He'd never hear the end of this. "Oh yeah, it sounds loads of fun. Maybe we can buy that dog collar for you while we're at it." he said sarcastically in retaliation. A while back when Kai was trying to get his friend out he had mentioned how he wouldn't drag his friend but perhaps pull him instead. It had been Emmett that had made a comment about having a collar and everything and although Kai had promised not to tell Bella about it it didn't mean he couldn't bring it up again. He could use the extra ammo right now even though it was probably pointless. "I'm sure Bella and I could find a perfect one that matched your eyes." He said with a bit of a challenging tone. Two could play this game even if Kai wasn't the strongest player he wouldn't go down without a fight. "Or how about something in bright pink? I'm sure that would attract the ladies."
The ice cream was pure deliciousness. The sweet flavors were fantastic and so yummy. "Same old same old. I'll probably just go traveling with mom." Kai's mother played with a traveling orchestra and when Kai was off he'd travel with them. Kai had wanted to ask Emmett to go with them but he was to afraid to do so mostly since the thunder wasn't one for crowds so Kai assumed something like this would be out of the question. He'd admit that Emmett's sudden request caught him a bit of guard mostly by Emmett's tone. "Of course." Should Kai be worried?
