BEST MEMORY The first family trip to NYC when he was seven, and they went to see the Lion King musical. It was there and then that he knew he wanted his life to always be bright and colorful.
WORST MEMORY When he was five, Bowen went to a summer camp, and one day they went to a local lake to go swimming. A couple of the older boys decided to play a prank on him and tossed him into open water that was deeper than he was tall. He panicked and would've drowned if one of the counselors hadn't noticed and rescued him. He hasn't gone swimming again since.
LONG-TERM GOAL To finish college and move to NYC, hoping to work in the theatre business as a costumer.

HISTORY
Growing up Bowen liked to pretend that his parents were a living fairy tale. They met in college, where James was studying International Business, and Hana was an student from Japan studying Communications. After she finished her year there she returned to Japan, and James followed her there to propose, and they married after his graduation. Or so they told their children, anyway. A family tree project in high school showed Bowen otherwise, that Hana and James had married when she was four months pregnant with their first child. Even with the shotgun wedding the family was still happy.
Bou always considered himself a bit special, growing up in a multicultural family as he did. Hana taught all of her children Japanese as well as English, and when they were younger Bou and his twin brother Blake had their own secret language that was a blend of the two. The two were practically inseperable until their teen years started and their interests diverged. Blake had always been the more pragmatic of the pair, favoring sciences, whereas Bou went toward the artistic side of things.
Blake was the first to show signs of being an earth elemental, during junior high. He was in the biology club after school, and even when other club members couldn't keep their plants alive, Blake's thrived. As Blake's powers manifested more and more, Hana admitted to being an earth elemental as well. Bou was feeling very left out at that point, and in a rare fit of anger, accidentally killed all of Blake's plants. Hana wanted to send the pair to Japan and the school she attented, but James instead proposed the Academy instead. He wasn't an elemental himself, but his best friend growing up was, and he knew it wasn't too far from where they lived. So once they hit high school age Bou and Blake were packed up and sent to the Academy, where they've been since.

It's a bad habit of hers, counting the steps she walks up and down everyday, but Marie can't seem to stop. It's like her need to eat things in a certain order, always get dressed the same way, or never wanting to be touched. Those habits, neuroses, of hers annoy her whenever she notices them, but at the same time she feels they're the only way she can keep her life controlled and orderly.
Especially when around her housemates, who seem to thrive on chaos.
One, two, three steps, through the doorway, four, five, six steps, and then the couch.
It seems so easy for them, to laugh and invade each other's space, squeezing onto an armchair meant for only one person as they watch their prefered show of the evening, sharing a bowl of popcorn.
Though she knows they would happily let her press in as well, she can't bring herself to join them. There's a wall between herself and the other three, one that she's acutely aware of, and that's entirely of her own making. She wonders if the others even notice it, or if she's over-analyzing everything again.
Then Anna notices her arrival, snatches the bowl up and bounces over, setting as comfortably against Marie's side as she'd been against Clare.
And though Marie scowls and elbows the other girl, she doesn't actively try to displace her. It's moments like this, when even if her housemates notice the wall, they happily break through it anyway, that mean the most to Marie.
Sometimes Marie wishes she could stop her mind and let herself relax and enjoy everything as clearly as the others do. Maybe some day she'll actually succeed for more than a few moments' time.
