A grumble reverberated in Cari's throat as she bumped by many people she didn't know. All of them were probably crowding around to try and get last-minute Valentine's Day presents. It sucked to have your birthday right after the holiday that you didn't care about.
"Oh! Excuse me!" Someone apologized as they clobbered Cari's foot. Gritting her teeth to keep from cussing them out, she barreled through the crowd and finally appeared at the opposite end of the park. Some stand were set up in rows, offering chocolates, roses, and other crap no one cares about. Plus, the fact that Valentine's Day was in the winter just made her feel even more pathetic. She didn't have a "boyfriend" to hang out with. Hell, she didn't even have any friends to hang out with. Dragging herself over to a park bench, she threw herself on it and crossed her arms, obviously irritated.
Today, she was finally fourteen. Not that one year made much a difference. She was still the new girl, still the fresh newbie. She hadn't met any other Fires who were in 9th Grade as well, making it extremely hard to find someone else who knew how she felt. Eh, whatever. She'd just celebrate her birthday her way: sitting on a bench, drink some hot chocolate, and ignore everyone else.
The thought of hot chocolate actually sounded good. Noticing a seller by the road, she sat up and quickly bought a small cup. "Here you are! Enjoy!" The lady said with her annoying happy-go-lucky holiday attitude. Cari was almost bent on barking at her to cut the crap, but instead forced a fake smile and waved goodbye. She decided to walk as far as she could to avoid the girl again. Walking along the path, she could see many couple holding arms, jogging and kissing each other in the freezing temperatures. It made her sick to her stomach.
