What to do on this day? Well first of all, it was the start of the new school year. Rosa was now in the tenth grade and another new thing, its January 1st which means, she is now fifteen. Yes, today is her birthday and she was going to celebrate it one way or another. But seeing as she really has no one around yet, she left the dorms and went the the courtyard. She didnt know what would come of the day, only that she was finally a year older. Not necessarily a year smarter though. She was in her usual outfit, and her brown hair was wavy as ever.
Her life changed drastically and she didnt really mind it anymore. She just knew that she was somewhere away from home, but she was having fun. not only was there a war, but she was kind of in a group. Maybe, just maybe. She has met people, but she has met more enemies than she thought would be likely. She didnt care much either. She walked over to one of the stone benches and she looked around. It seemed to be very empty, maybe this birthday will consist of sitting around and celebrating with herself?
She sighed then and started to sing the birthday song to herself. She shakes her head and chuckles. Thats only one way to show I have lost my mind right. She grabed her bag and pulled out a book. What was it? A school book. Yes, she was going to pass high school and probably get into college, maybe. She was not sure as of right now. The book was basically a book on new things to learn. After a few minutes of reading, she put the book down and looked up at the sky. It was a nice day out, and not only because of the stuff that the Earthies put on the courtyard. She still had her nice leather jacket on to keep her warm from the cold, and that was pretty much all she had on for winter gear.
ANYONE TURN IT UP! IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME TO CELEBRATE HER FIFTEENTH BIRTHDAY! I'M SO SICK OF THE CENTRAL COURTYARD, IT'S MAKING MY BRAIN FINISHED! I'M JUST TALKIN' 350 WORDS. I'M TELLING YOU 'BOUT THAT ROSALIND ELENA HERNANDEZ RAMIREZ. WE'RE SELLIN' KE$HA, SLEEPIN' IN WE R WHO WE R, HITTIN' ON HOT AND DANGEROUS !? @ CAUTION 2.0. HARD!

Hard to believe that Cari was almost fourteen years old. Huh. Seems like yesterday she was only 11 and, well, going through tough shit. Right now, she was still thirteen, and she was still the freshman of high school. Great.
Honestly, Cari had no idea what the hell to do. How was she supposed to act towards other Fires? Was it even natural to talk to anyone outside of their element? Finding a friend was difficult enough, but finding someone to talk to was almost impossible.
Pacing around the courtyard, she sighed and spotted a girl who looked only a year or so older, shivering from the cold. Why? she wondered. Wasn't she a fire, just like her? Didn't that mean they could just warm themselves up? Maybe not, after all, Cari was still gold.
Yeah, that reminded her of a poem she was studying. It wasn't really for a class or anything, she just felt like doing it in her free time. Cari sucked at Math and Science, but you can't really blame her. She hadn't been to school for 13 years, and she barely knew her numbers. Maybe someone could give her a little bit of extra tutoring?
Realizing that she had been oddly staring at the girl for some time, Cari decided to walk over and greet her. "Uhm, hey there." she stuttered and sat down next to her.

She looked around and saw others coming into the area now. She shook her head as they went past the fire and Rosa chuckled. She was not the most liked person in the Academy and frankly, she did not care one bit. After she put her book back into her bag, she felt a pair of eyes on her and they did not seem to leave either.
She looked up to see a girl staring at her, but she seemed to be in her own thoughts as well. She could tell right away that she was a freshman and that she was a fire. A small smile went to her features and she was about to get ip when the girl came over to her. "Hello to you too." She would have stuck out her hand, but Rosa could tell that they both were freezing like hell.
Rosa patted on the bench and she looks at the girl. "I'm Rosalind, but you can call me Rosa." Pretty much everyone who knew her called her Rosa, but it was only her friends and allies, not so much her enemies. Her enemies actually took to calling her Ramirez at times. She came back from her own thoughts and looked back at the girl. "So, today is you first day here am I right?" She smiled as she remembered her first day at the Academy.
To bad she had not come with her twin, but oh well, she rarely even talks to him now. She smiled at the fire girl and she waits for introductions and anything else the girl might ask or need help with. Rosa was nice mainly to her allies and that was about it.

Cari wasn't really sure how to reply. Should she be nice? Or is that too much? Maybe she should start with a joke.
"Whew, it's hot out here, hm?" she cracked a fake smile. Lame. Groaning in her head, she started to turn bright red and almost thought of walking away, but it was too late for that. Instead, she fidgeted in her seat and tried to gulp down her anxiety. She went silent after that, not daring to say a word.
You couldn't really blame her. This was the first time she had really interacted with another person. Her palms began to sweat with anxiety, just waiting for the girl to give her an awkward face.
Cari's education had always been last priority. Everything above was chores and work. The only thing below her education was her health. Thinking back to all that only made her burn with anger, so she switched her attention back to the girl.

Rosa looked at the girl while she thought. She could tell that the freshman was thinking for she had an absent look on her face. She rolled her eyes and was about to start reading again when the girl spoke. Rosa looked up at her and she sighs. Couldn't think of anything like Hi? Rosa did not need to be a stupid earthie to be able to tell that the girl was jealous, she could see her body fidget around.
Rosa got up then and looked at the girl. Ok new girl. You really need to calm down. Most people get away from others to enjoy a day, or to just stay away form all of the drama of the war. She did not like to yell at other fire's but this girl was irritating. Rosa was not even that nervous whens he got to the Academy, and she was having a bad day when she had first arrived.
All Rosa knew is that the girl came over and it was Rosa's birthday, and she did not want to be in a fight on her birthday, but this girl was getting really close to getting yelled at. Rosa hated to have to yell at her own element, but things can always change right. She waited for the girl to talk this time. If she did not get a good enough answer, then she was going to give the girl a lecture then turn around and leave.
All you need to do is calm down and talk. That was toward both of them. Rosa had said it in her mind so she could help calm herself down as well. She knew that she did not need her temper to get the better of her, especially on her birthday. She looked to her bag and saw the small cake on the top of it and she smiles a small bit as she remembered what day it actually was, her's and Jose's fifteenth birthday.

Cari bit her lip to keep from screaming back at the other fire. She had just about enough of the yelling from when she was young, but knowing that if she did that right now, she would be deemed just a bad as her own father was.
Come on, Cari. Breathe... She reminded herself, taking deep inhales and longer exhales. Closing her eyes would make her seem rude, so she refrained from doing so. Instead, she relaxed her hands at her sides and let the flame flow through her instead of sparking. It felt... nice. She wasn't really able to say that about much, so it felt weird saying it. Maybe she could use this whenever she thought about her father?
"Sorry," she apologized, and for once, she really meant it. Breaking the awkward silence, she gulped and tried to start some sort of conversation. "Well, uh, sorry about earlier. I'm just... new." Cari desperately tried to think of a different excuse than her past, and those happened to be the words that escaped her mouth. "What's your name? I'm Cari Cook." She just waited for the girl to call her CC, like most others did. It was some sort of pet name that everyone older than her was giving her. Hopefully, it wasn't some sort of insult that was flying straight over her head. Cari didn't understand much slang, or even some English words. She definitely needed help with an education.
Being a slave all her life kept her from truly learning. Just because she was uneducated, however, didn't mean she wasn't smart. She was. In fact, she understood some math equations pretty quickly, sometimes faster than the older students. But it wasn't enough. If she was going to pass this grade, she was going to need some extra help. Maybe this girl would be the start of it?
She knew that if she asked her right away, it would seem awkward, and Cari didn't want to repeat what had just happened. Instead, she asked her, "So, what's your best subject here?"

She watched the girl as she tried to relax herself. How did Rosa know that this was happening? She could feel the tension in the air around them idle down. She sighs and looks at her when she starts to speak. She knew that her temper had gotten the best of her, but who could really blame the girl. She had no idea where her brother was at the moment and the last that she saw him, he was with his water buddies. She let the thoughts go and she calmed herself as well. She should know better by now, she has gotten into some pretty good fights when she was a freshman. Rosa took in a deep breath before releasing it slowly. Soon enough, her body felt warm, but not hot enough to show the temper she had had earlier.
Its fine, and I remember being new here as well. She nods her head and chuckles lightly. She looks around before she sits back down and she looks at the girl. Cari Cook. So this is the girl that everyone keeps calling CC. Rosa shook her head and she smiles a bit. Rosalind Ramirez. But everyone calls me Rosa. She was polite to others, when her temper was under control, and that was rare enough.
She heard the last question and she smirks a bit. Well now, I am pretty good at English and Science, but that is about it. She chuckles lightly. She sucked at math, and it was known around the Academy, but she still passed the course to get to tenth grade.

A smile crossed Cari's face at her name. Rosalind... Cari could now feel grateful that she was able to choose her own name. Under the eyes of the government, she was a nobody. She didn't exist. In her own eyes, she was the best.
Cari tried her hardest not to laugh, and instead made some more conversation. "Well, I could use some help in Science. Would you mind helping me with some homework?" she asked, hopeful that Rosa would be able to help her in even the slightest way. She could use all the help she could get.
Cari almost swore she saw the faintest grin on her face as she told her name, Cari Cook. So she knows... Cari sighed to herself and slouched slightly over, setting her heavy backpack on the ground. Why did everyone call her that? It wasn't funny in the slightest way to her, but she tried to refrain from smacking someone clear across the face when they called her that. In all honesty, she wasn't sure why she got to infuriated when people called her that, it just irritated her. Although, Rosa seemed like an even funnier name. It was definitely original, that was for sure.
She waited for a response while she felt herself shiver in the cold. Damn January days. Why couldn't it be June already? When it was much warmer, and more fun to go outside.

Rosa watched Cari carefully. She could tell but the look in her eyes that the nickname was not of her liking. Rosa made sure to keep that in her mind. Lets not call her that, and maybe the group of friends will grow. She let the thought flip through her head, and she heard her question afterwards. She smiles and nods. Anything for a fellow Fire. Science is a great subject depending on the profession you want to go into outside of school. She chuckles lightly.
Rosa knew that people liked to make fun of others very quickly around here, and frankly she was one of them. But she knew when she needed to stop and when she was able to keep going. So, why does being called CC bug you? If she knew the reason, she would probably stop, but that was not a guarantee. She waited for that answer and she thought about other things while she waited for the answer. Like how she was going to help her with her homework, and what all she could show the girl without getting her into trouble.
