Nell was trying her best to go about life as if nothing had happened. As if a war wasn’t going on. But it was a bit difficult when you had two factions of alliances against you, wishing for nothing less than your suffering. She shivered as she walked out of a classroom, not from the draft in the castle, but simply because she hated walking through the halls now. Hazing was not something she’d experienced much of since arriving at the Academy, since she wasn’t a freshman, just a new student. This was something else. This was the Thunder students and particularly vindictive Fire students taking out their wrath on her. It was not uncommon to get zapped when brushing against someone in the hallway, and she had a few burns that she didn’t go to the medical wing for because she didn’t want to complain about something so little.
Taking a deep breath, she headed through the mass of people, trying to make her way to the next class as quickly as possible with little interference. But of course that wouldn’t happen. She merely winced as she came in contact with Thunder students, because it seemed they’d taken to the whole static-shock thing. Like it was some sort of game, one which the Earth student didn’t really enjoy. They were lucky she didn’t attack them back; they would have had their asses handed to them, on the most part. As people began to head into their classes and the crowd thinned out, she found herself stopped by someone calling her name. She stopped, looking over at a guy about her age leaning against the wall. Nell didn’t know him, and she didn’t smile or greet him back because she had a feeling…
”Look, it’s our resident murderer.”
And she was right. The student even waggled his fingers as if greeting a friend. She didn’t roll her eyes, because that would only provoke him. But he wouldn’t need any more provoking, clearly. The guy rubbed his fingers together, causing sparks. Nell sighed. Of course. He’s a Fire student. Thunder students were only slightly less intimidating in the fact that she had the upper hand on them. Fire students…not so much. The worse part, this guy probably didn’t even care about the war, or about her being accused of murder—it was probably just for sport.
Nell sent a glare (which wasn’t really effective, since this was Nell who looked more like an irritated squirrel than anything), and turned to walk away. It was a no-go. He gripped her by the elbow though, and she winced as fire bloomed from his hand to burn her upper arm, the crook of her elbow. She hissed, but refused to cry out or show any other weakness. He’d dig into weakness. ”Just let go of me. I don’t want to fight you.” The words were spoken with exasperated irritation, but lost some effect in the fact the burn hurt really freaking bad.
”Perfect.” In his other hand were more flames, and Nell’s eyes narrowed. She couldn’t fight. And she hated that she was so passive, but she couldn’t bring herself to do anything. Because even as this guy harassed her, she still couldn’t find it in her to hurt anyone. Now she was playing the victim again, like she had for years before, and it was painful, but what else could she do?

Okay, so things hadn't been as smooth as Harley wanted. She had been "asked" to leave the fire dorm, and was pretty much homeless. Harley had managed to get most of her belongings, and lived in the bathroom currently. She had yet to meet this girl, but she had seen her from afar, and hardly looked like a murderer. Harley had been keeping an eye on her in case someone messed with her too much. As in, punching her. That was when Harley would step in. Since Thunder had declared war against Nell, and anyone who stood against them, Harley had been into three fights. Most with Fire, one with a Thunder female. It pained Harley to fight with them, but she did.
When the bell rang, Harley moved towards the door, but was stopped by a snobby Fire girl. Mocking Harley was not wise, and most Fire kids knew so. Harley turned around, and glared at the girl, her green eyes as hard as emeralds. A throaty growl managed to escape her lips, and the young girl scurried away. Harley was sure she would hear that she had threatened her own. Again. As she walkes down the hallway, Harley saw Nell..and a Fire user. Harley groaned. He looked young, but she could be wrong. She probably was.
Harley was going to walk away, but the boy grabbed Nell. She could feel the fire; not literally of course. More like smell the burning of something. Harley watched as kids scurried past her as the late bell rang. Great, now she was late for her test. Harley sighed, and threw down her bags, and quickly threw her red hair up. It could get messy, and she'd prefer to keep her hair. All 5'7 of her walked over to convertation. Harley cleared her throat, and tapped him on the shoulder. The boy turned around, and sneered at Harley. Harley scoffed, and said, "I think it'd be wise if you removed your grimy hands from her."
The boy laughed, and said, "Oh, I'm so scared of a traitor bitch." His eyes were mocking her, but she knew that this kid thought this was a game. Well, if it's a gam re-he wants, it's a game he gets. Harley clentched her jaw and fists. The red head looked at him, and grabbed him by the shoulder when he tried to turn back around. "I don't think so," she said as her hand began to heat up. His eyes grew wide as her hand became very hot. With a fake sigh of regret, and a slight turn-as if she were turning to walk away-Harley drew back her fist, and sockdd the guy in his jaw. Harley glanced over to Nell to see if she was all right. Harley leaned towards the guy, and gave him one more good punch before saying, "Do. Not. Mess. With. Her. Understood?" The kid nodded until Harley thought his head would fall off. Her green shifted back towards the other girl. Harley jerked her head, and nodded for her to follow. Harley went over to grab her things, and headed to an empty classroom. Nell watched the girl approach, but the guy harassing her did not even notice until he felt the tap on his shoulder. He turned to face a very pissed-off redhead. She hadn’t expected someone to help her, so she was surprised when the girl practically demanded the Fire student to release her. No, she had expected to be going to the medical wing with serious third degree burns. The guy wasn’t as impressed. Traitor? Nell left before Josh and Harley rebelled against their element. Does that mean this girl is a Fire student…? Then why…? Yanking him by the shoulder when he tried to turn away from her, even Nell was intimidated by the girl, more-so than with the asshole still gripping her arm. An expression of shock was in his eyes, though the Earth girl didn’t know why.
And then it seemed like the girl—she must have been Fire, right?—was going to walk away. What’s the deal? Nell wondered, even more confused now than she had been before. Then, the girl freaking decked him in the jaw. She stumbled, but caught herself before tipping over. The Earth girl cradled her arm against her stomach, staring at the other girl with wide eyes. She’s some sort of Street Fighter goddess. With another punch—and even Nell winced—she told the guy to lay off. And Nell just kept thinking that by the way he spoke, this girl must have been Fire. Nell would have laughed at the guy’s enthusiastic nodding if she weren’t so confused right then.
Audibly swallowing when the girl looked over to her, Nell followed as she got her things and went into one of the empty classroom. ”Thank you,” the Earth student finally sighed, now finding her voice. She was a little intimidated by this chick, but even more so in awe of her. Also confused. Which is why she asked: ”He called you a traitor…are you a Fire student?” Her eyebrows were knitted together, because she couldn’t think of a good reason why the redhead of all people would help her.

Honestly, this whole thing was stupid, but her choice had been made. As much as it pained Harley to betray her people, and most of all, Samson. She watched as the kid ran off, and the Earth girl followed her. Finally, she actually was meeting this Nell in person. Harley couldn't believe what life had become for her; it was like everyone hated her. Which was true, everyone did. She was called traitor everywhere she went, and had gotten use to it.
Harley leaned against a desk, and watched as Nell walked in. Harley felt bad for her; to have such a powerful group of kids after you without proof. The Fire girl smiled softly at the Earth girl. "No problem."
Harley looked towards the floor, then whipped her head up. She was suprised that the girl had asked, but Harley nodded. "Yes, I am a Fire. I'm Harley, one of Josh's friends," Harley told her. The red head moved towards the girl, her green eyes narrowed at the arm the boy had hold of. Harley grabbed the arm, and looked at the burn. Not too bad, but it would need ice. "You'll need to put ice on it to make the swelling go down," her gazed over the other girl. Her green eyes hardened with anger at her people. "What else is there? Does Josh know?" Harley sighed, and glanced around the empty room. No point in going to class now. She shook her head, and sighed. What had she gotten into? Time to find out. "Why you," Harley asked her. She had to know what she sticking up for was right. Nell offered a smile in return to the girl’s own, still feeling a bit uneasy. It wasn’t unusual for her now to be targeted. It was unusual to have a random chick come over to save her ass. But she was most certainly grateful for it. She verified that she was a fire, and Nell grew more confused, of course. ”I guess…you know who I am.” She had quite the reputation now, after all. Apparently, though, she was Josh’s friend. Josh doesn’t have friends, how weird. He was certainly the loner type, but since they were allies. She then realized something that she should have caught onto earlier. ”Does that mean you took my side, too?” That was the only possible answer. She just couldn’t believe it. Another fire defected? That must have been quite the blow to their collective confidence.
The girl—Harley, was her name, she made sure to remember—took her arm and inspected it. She nodded and smiled a bit. ”I think I should start carrying around a cooler of ice,” she said lightly, even though the situation was a bit worse than she made it. Harley looked quite pissed, anger dancing in her green eyes. Nell would have been intimidated if she wasn’t apparently on her side. ”Uh…just a few minor injuries. The thunder students just enjoy zapping me, and only a few burns from fire. Josh doesn’t need to know.” She shrugged. There wasn’t anything too major—yet—and she considered herself damn lucky considering how she was the huge target that the opposing alliance wanted to sink their teeth into.
Why me? She sighed. Nell guessed that Harley trusted Josh’s judgment when he chose to take her side. ”Because I’m innocent,” Nell said, and looked Harley in the eye. ”I don’t know how they got it in their heads that I had anything to do with Cynthia’s murder, but it’s not true. And Josh knew that I wouldn’t hurt anyone, so that's why he backed me up.” Probably because she’d saved him before. Nell still had the keen feeling he didn’t necessarily trust her when it came to him personally, but at least he understood she wasn’t the violent type. ”I’m really sorry. It must be pretty tough for you.” Her own people were targeting her, too, because of her betrayal. Just because she must have believed both Nell and Josh.

This was quite the interesting situation. Harley believed that everyone deserved a chance to speak of their innocence, and that people couldn't just declare war against someone. It was one reason Harley chose to defend Nell, other than her sister of course. Just by looking at the girl, Harley knew that she didn't kill Cynthia. Cynthia had been a bitch, so really anyone could've killed her. The red head nodded to Nell's question. "Of course I know who you are. Everyone does,"
she told her quietly. If you didn't know, then you had to be living under a rock. At Nell's next question, Harley became uncomfortable. Again, she nodded her head. Harley had taken Nell's side at whim, but didn't regret it. [coloe=maroon]"I don't take it back, you know. I thought it was unfair that they declared war on you without proof," Harley told her. The Fire elemental chuckled at her statement, and said, "I think you might. I'd try to reduce the burn, but I suck at it. I'd probably make it worse." Harley gave her a weak smile. It was true, Harley wasn't the greatest at healing burns, just great at inflicting them. Harley shock her head slightly; there was no way in hell she was telling Josh. Not after their fight. She hadn't spoken to him since, and didn't plan too. "Well, don't be afraid of them. Their pride is just hurt 'cause one of their own is gone, and don't know what to do." Harley sat back with arms crossed, and listened to Nell talk. Her explaination had been simple, and was good enough for her. "Well, I believe you. They probably looked for her biggest enemy, and apparently that was you. Thunders are vengeful creaturea, and always need someone to blame," Harley said simply. Most of that was true, but she was just guessing about the enemy part. It seemed most logical though. The red head shrugged; it wasn't any harder for herlthan Nell. "Doesn't bother me much anymore. Plus, I've always felt more at home with Earth elementals." Harley wasn't big on people choosing her loyalties for her. She was very much capable of making her own choices. Nell wasn’t used to such patience and communication, especially during a time like this. It was usually just an instant fireball to the face. No questions, no information—just simply attacking, and never doubting her guilt. You are guilty. Oh so guilty. Her thoughts were most likely her biggest enemy, though. They kept blaming her for something she’d left behind, an event that had nothing to do with Cynthia’s murderer. But her mind wouldn’t allow her any time free of guilt. Nell scratched the back of her head at Harley’s words. Yeah, everyone knew, unfortunately for her. People could pick her out in a crowd, which made her such an easy target. Thanks to the leaders’ grand entrance and accusations, there was probably a wanted poster going around. Nell’s lips twitched in gratefulness. ”You’re one of the only sane people, then. At least you have rationale not to go jumping into any conflict.” Of course, Fire students were known for their temper and she was sure Harley had one of her own. She did pretty much own her attacker.
Smiling easily at Harley, she shook her head. ”That’s okay, I can deal.” Just cover it up and bury it, that’s all she needed to do it. Act like it didn’t even exist. It’d heal on its own. At least, that’s what she told herself. That’s what she liked to pretend to make the situation easier than it really was. Nell nodded, even though she had a feeling it would be much worse. ”Hopefully you’re right. It would make things much more easier on me.” But most of the enemy alliances’ bites were just as big as their barks.
This girl was actually giving her the time of day, and it filled her guy with a strange kind of happiness. During the war, she was glad to find those on her side whenever she could. Why were so many people so sure of her innocence? Did they not see that she was a murderer? Was it not as apparent as Nell thought it to be? But she gave away none of these thoughts as she smiled at Harley, though it was a bit strained with her thoughts. ”I only had a problem once with Cynthia. But…she was a Thunder. Thunders hold grudges, as you say.” Nell looked down a bit. God, she hated this. Harley simply brushed it off, and she looked into the other girl’s eyes curiously. ”Really? Earth?” It sounded strange that a Fire student would even like Earth. They were complete opposites. "Well, it good that you feel comfortable around us. I guess it lessens the strain, huh? Still, I don't think anyone likes betraying their own element..." It must not have been as easy as Harley was making it out to be, even Nell knew that.
