Ok so, why did these people want to meet with her, in here nonetheless? The small freshman thought this while walking in the dark, moist dungeon, trying not to trip and fall on objects she didn’t even know. Looking down, she nearly yelped in surprise to see a skull. Ok, I want to go back now. She wants to go, she really does, but her grade is at stake here. Her partners, one Fire student and the other Thunder, chose to do a history project on the dungeons in this castle. Poor Dani didn’t have much of a say in the choosing, since they were bigger and scarier, they got the pick, and Dani got the short end of the straw so to speak.
Of course, where else would they choose? Out of all the places on the school premises they were supposed to research, they chose the place most comfortable for them, and they also chose the person that would get the work done for them. Yup, that was her, Dani. The Fire guy was in charge of taking pictures, the Thunder girl designed the poster, and Dani had to write the report about it: the history and all that good stuff. It sometime sucked to be the smart, quiet one…it really did.
As she got deeper and deeper into the cave-like place, she started to hear moanings and pantings, which got her even more scared out of her wits. She remembered the rumors she heard about this place. One of them is that ghosts still linger around here, waiting to haunt and terrorize the person lurking about. Of course they rumors, but she couldn’t help but think that they were right. Her flashlight she held started to tremble like the rest of her body. She was about to text her partners that she couldn’t make it when a voice shouted out “what are you doing down here?” It was a feminine voice, and that relaxed her, just a little. The ghost could be a female. She wanted to turn around so badly, but you don’t piss off a ghost. Wind suddenly picked up around her and made her jump a little. She realized that it was her own doing and calmed a bit. Walking forward, she saw a figure doing kicks and punches at particularly no one. She gave out a sigh of relief when she saw that she was alive and of flesh and bone. To answer her question, she stated “I’m…here to do a project, with some people…” She let her voice trail off as she began to wonder where her partners are at.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://www.formal-invitations.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/baroque-background-230.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] the girl was tiny and timid looking, she seemed to be cowering by the entrance to the cell that phillie was romping around in. the air that she was giving off screamed anxious and phillie couldn't comprehend why she would be down her in the first place. her flashlight shined over to philomena and she cringed at the shining light for only a moment before adjusting to the luminosity and allowing herself to bask in the light. phillie had broken out into a light sweat, she pulled down on her yoga shorts and picked at her shirt to pull away from the perspiration that had begun to stick to her body. phillie flinched away from the light and turned around to reach out on her own instinct. "shine the light away and i'll light some candles," she softly commanded, grappling blindly over to the corner. her hands circled around two bulky candles and she pulled them over to her. philomena slapped her hand out and a lighter covered in grime met her palm. light struggle was caused before her with two successful snaps of the lighter the two candles were flickering with yellow life. philli dropped the lighter back into its spot at the corner and stood back up to her full height of five feet two inches. the chamber was now dimly illuminated and she had a better view of her surroundings and the girl who had interrupted her training session.
phillie was peering at the girl, her hazel eyes drinking the sight and she decided that she was a freshman. her hand ran through her hair and she slowly exhaled, taking a step closer to the girl and away from the light. the girl looked familiar, her composure and the way that she spoke to her. she began to rack her mind through the faces of the freshman that she had directed around the orientation and the countless flow of underclassmen that came to her to seek guidance. her mind lit up with recognition and she nodded briefly to the girl. "you're dannica johnson, right? if i recall you wanted to me to call you dani," phillie said to her and offered her a tiny smile of encouragement. she hadn't had any personal interactions with her since the beginning of the year but as the wind leader she was slightly familiar with the girl. she knew all of the students who were wind elementals, she had memorized all their names and matched faces to their names. "i don't think you forgot, but i am philomena bird. you should know that i am the wind leader," philomena spoke gently. she threw introductions out of the way and moved on to question the girl further. "you're in the dungeons for a project?" the dungeons had the potential to be dangerous, the students that lingered down in the chambers on screamed danger. she didn't need any of her students being found down in the dungeons.

The girl told her turn the flashlight away from her and she did. But when the light was on, she noticed that the girl looked familiar. Why did she look familiar though? Her eyes followed the girl while she was searching for something. A candle, she later revealed and she lit it. The tiny lights illuminated the small part of the cave where she was…fighting? The flames gave it a more warm and welcoming feeling, making the freshman girl feel at ease.
The girl was looking at her, and Dani was looking back, trying to remember where she’s seen that face. She’s a student here; that much was obvious. Maybe she’s seen her in the hallways or some other place on campus. Yeah, that must be it. She took a step closer to her, and she took one back instinctively. The dark cave and eerie quietness heightened her senses and her fear. She knew this girl wouldn’t hurt her, it was just reflex. The grip on the flashlight started to fall out of her sweaty hands. She turned to put the flashlight back when the girl spoke to her. Her eyes widened in recognition. “So that’s how I recognized you. Yes, I’m Dannica, or, Dani.” She returned the smile and relaxed even more. She’s the current wind leader, and she was friendly at the freshman orientation. “I’m surprised you’d even remembered me.” She said with a timid voice. She knew there were louder, more memorable people in her element, and Dani didn’t say much at the orientation. She nodded when Philomena introduced herself. “Yes, I remember you now. You sorta…helped me out in orientation.” That she did. She would’ve been completely lost in her classes if she wasn’t there to tell her where they were.
She then nodded regretfully. “Yeah, I am. We’re doing a history project on this castle…and my partners chose the dungeon. I would’ve chosen someplace…safer, but I was out voted.” She checked her cell phone for the time to find out her partners were 5 minutes late. I’m doing most of the work. The least they can do is show up and do the little jobs that they claimed for themselves. She pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. “They’re 5 minutes late.” She said in a monotone voice. She looked behind Philomena in curiosity to see what she was doing. “Umm, what are you doing down here all by yourself?” she asked with concern in her brown eyes. She knew she could handle herself, but with her being here all by herself concerned the freshman.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://www.formal-invitations.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/baroque-background-230.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] dani johnson, she was one of the freshman that she had guided around when orientation had come earlier in the school year. being the wind leader brought on a heap of responsibilities that she had to maintain and oversee. the wind leader was not just a pretty title that she carried and flaunted around to her liking. philomena had to make sure the freshmen were content and satisfied with the treatment they were receiving. philomena poured over the freshmen of the wind, she would check in with them daily and even went as far as personally handing out her cell phone number if they needed her in a time of emergency. she would have never lunged at dani, but she could clearly tell the fear that was gutted in her by the way she took a step closer then backed off. "i would never hurt you, dani. the dungeons seem creepy and spooky, i know. that's why people don't belong here, the fire and thunder students can be real bullies at time," phillie said, trying to come off as comforting and warming towards dani. she was one of the more delicate and easily upset girls out of the lot of the freshmen, she could easily tell that from the manner that she had approached her. some of the class were extremely cocky and wouldn't even acknowledge philomena because they felt they were superior to her. phillie took no offense, they weren't the most unified element but in the end all of the wind bound together in times of crisis.
dani seemed honored that philomena even had the frame of mind to remember her name, like it was something that could be considered a miracle. phillie beckoned the girl to come closer to her, she didn't feel like it was safe for her to be hovering by the dungeon entrance where she was too far out of her reach. "i know all of the wind students. it's my job. i remember you though especially, you were super sweet and i remember thinking that you looked very pretty." philomena was speaking approvingly of dani, spitting of compliments that were true but also in an attempt to soothe her and allow her to unwind. she felt that the air was stuffy, she turned her attention away from dani and gave a gentle swish of her hand. a fresh burst of air was created and began to circulate around the room, hopefully dani found that it would be easier to breathe now. philomena turned her attention back onto dani and sent her an incredulous stare. "you must be working with either fire or thunder elementals then. they basically live down here. i wouldn't advise coming down here anymore though, it can get dangerous." she wasn't trying to scold dani, only warn her in hopes that her words would stick with the freshman. dani was curious, asking about why phil was down her. philomena sent her a smile and she pulled at her clothes and pointed at her shoes. they looked distinctly like workout clothes. "i kickbox and to stay in shape i need to work out. i was practicing, without the headgear and gloves though."

Dani looked upon the Wind leader with curiosity and wonder. If she’s the Wind leader…she must be really powerful…and not just because she’s a senior. She also considered what a responsibility it must be to hold that title. It’s not about showing off how powerful you are; that was already understood. The leader has to maintain control of their element, hold important meetings with the other ones, and of course keep up their grades in the process. It was a lot of work to do, and that’s why she admired this girl.
“I know you wouldn’t hurt me. It’s just that…I thought you were something else…” Her voice wandered off as her checks reddened with embarrassment. How dumb of her to think that ghost actually exist. She sooo has to stop listening to those rumors the Fire and Thunder kids spread around. “That, I agree with.” The Fire and Thunder kids are bullies. The reason she’s down her proves it.
Dani could tell that Philomena was trying to calm her, and she appreciated it. That was one of the reasons why she felt so comfortable with her. Then flattery came after comfort and her cheeks reddened even more. Even if she was trying to calm her, she didn’t have to go out of her way of saying that. Besides, the compliment kind of took her off guard. Not that many people even bother to pay attention to her, let alone compliment her.“Thanks. You’re very nice and pretty too.” Which was so true; she’s always wanted to be as liked and as pretty as this girl, but the odds of that are slim…very slim.
She nodded in answering her question. “Yes. One Thunder, and one Fire. They should be down her by now…but I’m starting to think they stood me up.” She checked her cell for any missed messages, but to no luck: she has no signal down here. She probably missed their calls, if they even bothered to call her. She answered her question about why she was here herself. “Kickboxing? Wow, that’s great. Would you show me?” She never really cared about self-defense before coming to this school. Now it’s more of a need than a want if she wanted to survive three more years.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://www.formal-invitations.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/baroque-background-230.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] dani was skittish, she seemed very on edge like she had been nearly worked up into a state of hysteria. she had every reason to be worked into a state of anxiety, the dungeons weren't any place for anyone to be. dani was a freshman too, it was very unlikely that she should have ever found herself down here lurking around because she had been instructed to come down here for a project. the thunder and fire crowd could be cruel at times, only because it would lend them some sort of entertainment at the mercy of the other students. "you were being cautious, that is completely understandable. when you are down here you have no clue who could be possibly lumbering around here," phillie agreed, speaking rationally with no attempts to shake dani up. she was only telling dani the truth because she was as aware as philomena when it came to the dangers of the castle. "they just like to cause trouble is all, nothing more then some sort of twisted entertainment for them." philomena lounged back, scooting on the grimy floor until her back was resting upon the unevenly paved wall of the dungeon. "the fire and thunder kids are the riots of the school, they are all edgy and restless and need something to do. it just makes sense to them that the cure to their boredom should be terrorizing," phillie rambled, she was saying the first things that came to her mind. she never really had much trouble with the fire and thunder elementals but other students could attest to her words.
she could spot the blush on dani's cheek and she said nothing, only kept herself at ease and watched her silently. the girl was really sweet and phillie had no protests against her because she seemed so sincere and gratifying. philomena took her hand and flicked it out at dani, silently miming like she was brushing off the compliment that she had given her. "thank you, dani." she tried to sound sincere but she never thought much of it when anyone complimented her on anything about her. philomena gave a frown then, it was very rude for anyone to stand up someone who seemed to be as kind and real as dani. she listened to her intently and then philomena quickly thought of a solution to settle the matter. "don't worry about your assignment. give me the name of the two students and i will personally speak to them. for now though you can join me even though this isn't the ideal spot to hangout," philomena said, offering her an apologetic smile. she commented on her kickboxing and phillie laughed at the excitement of her tone. she let herself relax some more, she didn't intend to get back up. "i think i am too comfortable to move right now. how about i offer you something though? if you are interested in kickboxing you can come down here with me once a week and i can instruct you. if you want, of course."

It was true; she was being cautious. But maybe she was being just a little too cautious. Ghosts, really? Everyone knew that they didn’t exist: Once they’re dead, they’re dead and they’re not coming back. A weapon would be nice for self defense, but they weren’t allowed on campus. And plus, she herself is a weapon; if only she knew how to harness her power and make it work to her advantage.
“Well, they should use that focus to learn more about their powers than terrorize people.” Dani knew about how some people’s personality related to their power, and that fire and thunder are the wildest of the bunch. But instead of bullying people, they can help them. That sounded great in theory, but practicing it? Not likely. At least, not now anyway.
She noticed that Philomena easily dismissed the compliment like she did. Was she not as confident in herself like Dani? Well, she shouldn’t be; she really is pretty. Maybe she’s just not a compliment type person. Yeah, that should be the reason. Dani wasn’t one either. Don’t get the child wrong; she accepts and appreciates the compliment, it’s just that she knew that they were mostly based on flattery more than fact.
What the Wind leader said next caught her off guard. She wanted Dani to tell her the names of her partners. Rat them out was more like it. Dani couldn’t do that; it would almost be like tattling. She didn’t want them to get into trouble. For all she knew they could’ve been sick or completely forgotten about the meet. So the freshman shook her head. “It’s okay. Umm, we’ll find some other way to do the project without coming down here.” But Dani did take her second offer. She sat herself down next to Philomena and turned her body toward hers.
“That would be great!” Excitement shown in the brown eyes of the freshman. It was almost as if this girl read her mind. Meeting her once a week is manageable, plus this will be a great stress relief. She smiled to herself, thinking when she got good enough at kickboxing, she’ll like to see others try to use her again.
