it's a party AND EVERYONE SHOULD INVITE ME [/style] [style=font-size:12px; line-height:12px; margin-bottom:10px; margin-left:30px; padding-right:3px; text-align:justify; width:450;]Tom fastened the party hat to the top of his head, looking up so that he could see it was on right. Despite not seeming as though he cared much about his work environment, he liked his coworkers. Much more than he did his students, that was for sure. As such, he quickly volunteered to plan the party for Professor Hubbard, the Anthropology professor who would be retiring at the end of the year. She was a pleasant woman, about sixty now, with short white hair and a penchant for repeating things she had already stated in a different fashion. He'd had many pleasant conversations with her, as he was sure other members of faculty did. It was a shame that she had to leave, but she was old and it was about damn time.
However, no one should have ever left Tom to his own devices in planning a party. He utilized the space well. Streamers hung from corner to corner, pink and yellow. Those were feminine colors, right? He set up tables and covered them in confetti. The center pieces? Rubber ducks. They matched, and that's as far as his knowledge of interior decorating went. He set up the food table, long and adjacent to the door so that it was the first thing people would see coming in. Tom believed he accomplished that perfectly. Especially the cake he'd bought, currently sitting in the freezer. It took a slight reminder for him to pick it up from the table and move it there, considering he forgot about the ice cream cake. He hoped that the woman enjoyed them, considering he went into this blind.
He'd posted up fliers on the bulletin board in the lounge for people interested to come, and so that's what he waited on as he did some minor touch ups. He wore a button-down shirt and a pair of slacks, "business casual" he believed. He may not have had an exceptional sense of style, but he liked to think that he wasn't a total slob.
Tom busied himself with arranging the candies he set out with the centerpieces. Professor Hubbard said that she would arrive a little late, but informed him that he could begin without her. Of course, to begin, he needed the faculty to arrive. He figured that the advertisement of food on the flier hanging from the cork board would be enough to entice his co-workers. He'd even spoke to a few people about it, asking them if they would come, so he was sure that at least a few would arrive.
TAGS: everyone! NOTES: hopefully there's enough openings here~ ;] |

Yuki arrived with a proverbial metric ton of drink. She literally had carts being wheeled in behind her of all manner of drink and Oh yes, a cake. She had stored one for Josh and Nell in the freezer for one of them to take home later. She began setting more food out and then waving to Tom, "Hey there, I've got the sherbert in bowls here. Would you mind pouring the ginger ale over it and bringing it over for folks to drink? You know they're going to go through it like its water." she asked as she set up the second wave of food.
Yes, with how teachers ate there would need to be more beverage. It was one of the things teachers looked forward to. Gorging themselves so they could kevetch and tell horror stories. Tons of fun, right? She glanced about the room and chuckled, "Did the easter bunny die in here?" she asked him playfully. A genuine smile on her face as she looked for Hiro. She didn't know what he would bring but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Hiro walked down the hall with a batch of chocolate brownies in hand. He couldn't miss out on an a party even if it was only the faculty. Avery would probably be there and maybe Yuki if she was trying to change it up a bit. He knew the professor that was retiring pretty well. She was one of the few that he actually liked so he thought it only right to attend her little goodbye party. He walked around the corner and stopped for a moment when he saw Yuki walking into the room. He smirked. Look like she beat him this time. No worries. He continued his stroll with a bit of a hop in his step before reaching the door.
He took a quick peek inside and saw Yuki taking care of some food. His smirk grew and he quietly sneaked behind her. He snaked an arm around her waste and brought her closer to him so he could speak in her ear. "And how's my favorite thunder doing?" he asked before sneaking a kiss on her head and letting her go. He walked around to place the brownies on the table, adding to the already placed food for the party before turning to Yuki. "Attending a faculty party. I see you keeping up with our talk of loosing up a bit." he said before taking a bit into one of his own brownies.

Yuki was completely taken aback when the arm snaked around her waist and she heard that familiar voice. And did something completely unexpected. She giggled like a young girl, "Hiro, that tickles." she said to him as she looked up at him and then on impulse kissed his cheek. They had been dating for a few weeks and their relationship was helping her to relax in ways she hadn't known before.
She hadn't realized how much she had isolated herself till he started going out with her. She found herself enjoying his company when she was with him. She felt like he was a piece that she had been missing in her life that she hadn't known existed. It just worked. "Go get your brownies put on the table and you can help me with drinks." she said gently as she moved away from him so he could put his brownies away.
"And yes I am loosening up you. You really cheered grandma up the other day with your visit. She's happier since you started visiting." she said gently as she looked over at him and began to pour some ginger ale for the punch.

He'd be lying if he didn't say that the small laugh didn't surprise him a bit. In his eyes he'd always thought of Yuki as a very dull girl. Since they started their little relationship he has seen a change in her and despite himself has been growing rather fond of it. He'd have to remind himself of why he was doing this before he got carried away but he'd admit though that this more relaxed Yuki was rather nice. They kissed each other's cheeks as he moved to put the plate of brownies on the table. Their relationship had been a bit more than what he had expected. He hadn't counted on actually enjoying her company as much as he had been. He didn't admit it but it was rather fun.
"Well, that's because she loves me. I have been told that I have a rather relaxing aura to me." he joked. Prior to their relationship he normally saw Yuki's family at social gatherings. Now that they were a couple he thought it only right that he visit the family a bit more. Have to keep up facade right? And Yuki's grandmother had always been kind to him so it was only right. After all he was dating her granddaughter. It was only proper he got her blessing, even if he was only keeping up an act. Before helping with the drinks he pulled her towards him and looked down at her. "Not to sound like a needy child but you haven't kissed me today. And a kiss on the cheek doesn't count." he said with a signature smirk on his face.

She beamed up at him. Her glossy black hair shining in the light as she worked carefully making sure to put the soda and sherbert away. "I think you gave her a new lease on life, Hiro. Her treatments are easier on her now. She's able to keep food down and is bouncing back a bit."
Moving closer to him she smiled up at him, "Now what would our students say?" she teased as she kissed him anyway. "Happy?" she said softly as she looked into his eyes and smoothed his suit a bit with her well manicured hands. "You look handsome today." she complimented him as she took a step back in case someone else needed to talk to her or him. They may be a couple but it was still a party. With rather bright decorations but then she hadn't organized it Tom had.
She moved away from Hiro and looked to see what Tom was up to. She didn't want to be rude and ignore everyone at the party for Hiro. Plus the lady of the hour was due to arrive any moment. It would be nice to congratulate her. She had hit a milestone and it should be celebrated.

Ah the enjoyable feeling of classes being over on such a beautiful fall day. As much as Lena enjoyed teaching, she had a social life to stay on top of, and a very loveable man at home waiting for her. And so what if that man was a tiny fur ball puppy? He was still excited to see her whenever she came bursting through the door. Waving to a few of her students in the hall, she navigated her way through the school with a good-natured smile glued to her face. Passing the open door of the teacher’s lounge, Lena made no movement to go in until something stopped her. Catching a glimpse of pink and yellow she halted and back pedalled a step. What was this all about?
Oh no…old Hubbard’s going away party. The one that had flyers plastering the news board for some time now. Hubbard. The old bat eyed Lena down scrupulously on more than one occasion. Today most of her tattoos were covered and she wasn't showing a whole deal of skin. All in all, this was as conservative as Lena got without the higher ups scowling her. Lena pulled her phone from her jacket pocket to check the time. Hmm, maybe she didn’t have a good excuse to cut out so soon. It wasn’t that Hubbard was particularly mean to the young professor, just more of a pseudo disapproving parent sometimes. Their conversations had been pleasant enough once Lena learned to navigate the landmine questions about her attire and extra curricular activities. It would have been rude of her to not even make an appearance at this sort of gathering.
The yellow center pieces were the first thing that caught the English Professors eye once she decided to stick around for a bit. Crossing over length of the lounge to trace her fingers over the back of the objects, Lena examined the center pieces with interest. Rubber duckies? What a strange man you are Tommy boy, she thought affectionately. Two fellow professors she had only met in passing seemed to be having a moment between themselves so Lena made her way over towards the kitchenette counter top and plopped herself on the surface instead of opting for a real seat. Lena crossed her leather-clad legs and leaned back on her arms as she snuck a glance at the couple.
Whatever they were talking about must have been funny since she noticed the male smirk at his companion. Titling her head, Lena held back the urge to chuckle in enjoyment. Either they were very playful with their relationship or this was some budding romance in the making. Tearing her eyes away from the scene to give them privacy -and not have them think she was stalking them- she tapped her foot as she turned her attention towards the other partygoers. With a year under her belt the faces were all familiar and fresh in the brunette’s mind - even if she hadn’t really gotten to converse with them. Searching the contents of her tiny clutch, Lena pulled out a rouge sweet cherry lollipop with much joy and began to unwrap the delicious treat. She’d stick around for a bit and politely excuse herself when she felt like her loveable Maximus couldn’t stand to be stuck inside any longer.

"I'm happy to hear that. Not that she needed me considering how much of a fighter she already is." Even when he had heard about her grandmother's diagnosis he had not expected her to go without a fight and by the way Yuki seemed to relax more often it was because of how much better her grandmother was doing. It wasn't unsual of course. When someone you love was down and they started feeling better you started feeling better. It was just the way the world worked.
He smiled in the kiss. It was soft and sweet. It probably wouldn't grab much attention really if it weren't for the fact of who exactly was kissing. Many knew of the rivalry that had gone on between Yuki and Hiro so the idea that the two were now dating was rather uncanny. "Very. Although," he said before leaning into her again to whisper in her ear. "I'd prefer it much more if we were alone." he said with a smirk before he started helping with the drinks. By then the room was beginning to fill with the anticipation of the guest of honor herself. Fashionably late as usual. "Don't I always." he joked. It wasn't unknown that Hiro had a bit of an ego and pride but his head wasn't completely controlled by it. "And you are as stunning as ever." he said with a soft smile. By this time he began to take a good look around the room and really started noticing the party directions that had been set up. "Thomas really went all out with this didn't he? Not sure if we're having a retirement party or and child's birthday." he said teasingly. No one could said that it would be dull that was for sure.
Hiro looked at the small crowd that had already gathered. He recognized many, either from his own schooling days or from meeting them after joining the staff. Hiro was one that liked to know everyone he could. Never knew when knowing someone in particular could come in use. Among the crowd he noticed one of the new staff members. English professor named Lena if he was correct. "I wonder if Avery's coming?" he thought out loud. His best friend, a water elemental and the school nurse. A fire with a water as a best friend. Not exactly what you would hear everyday. There relationship had changed ever so slightly and it mostly had to do with the fact that both had now gained a significant other. They didn't stop being friends but it couldn't be denied that things had changed just a bit. It was odd, at least for Hiro. He didn't see Avery as often as he would have liked but life threw curve balls at you.

it's a party AND EVERYONE SHOULD INVITE ME [/style] [style=font-size:12px; line-height:12px; margin-bottom:10px; margin-left:30px; padding-right:3px; text-align:justify; width:450;]Tom grinned when he saw people start to trickle in. Well, three people, but it was enough. Though he saw Hiro and Yuki being rather affectionate, he didn't really care. The man didn't pay any mind, except when they actually kissed. He lifted an eyebrow. How unprofessional. Not that he would report them, especially since it was a party and a more lax scene. Thaddea came to mind then, though they didn't interact much on school grounds. This was a school setting, there was something unholy about affection where he taught kids he didn't even really like.
He headed over to the group, approaching from behind while brandishing party hats. "Put these on." he said, the gravest tone in his words. The man had paid for them, he'd be damned if no one else wore them. Plus the fact that he would look pretty fucking ridiculous. He went over to Lena, handing one hat over to her. "Don't give me shit," he said automatically, as if expecting it. Especially with his centerpieces, he didn't want to be judged. "And Hubbard said she'd be late, so feel free to eat all the food if you want." He shrugged, though he was really hoping that he would not have to take home any leftovers.
Then, curious, he asked, "Do you know if anyone else is coming?"

The blue hat Tom insisted she wear classed with her outfit. One look at her would have clued anyone in to her favorite color. ”Oh Thomas, you know I’d never give you shit,” she teased, mocking how offended she felt from the insinuation. Pulling at the small elastic string, Lena attempted to get the paper cone hat to sit on top of her hair. The string felt like it was cutting straight into her throat once she let go. Now that new addition to her outfit wasn't going to last long. ”If you had given me two I would have shown you my impersonation of Madonna. It’s really good.” Lena smiled at the grumpy man before putting the lollipop back in her mouth. She felt sort of odd not bringing anything along, but she had forgotten about the entire thing to begin with.
Looking over at the lovebirds, she decided to get a little recon information on the pair. ”Sooooo…” she drew out with a slight lift in her voice. ”What’s the story there?” There was a bit of mirth playing in her eyes as she squared off with the Calculus party planner. ”Pretty cute huh?” Lena wasn’t the best person to go to for advice when it came to stable relationships since her own experience was shit, but that hadn’t hardened her into a cynic. She loved it when she saw two people get together. Work environment or not.
Lena offered a casual shrug to his question of future party guests. She didn’t even know she was going to be here. Changing the subject, ”You got any of those steamer things I can blow into for when she gets here? I want to see if I can rustle up one more scowl from the dingy bat before she leaves… for old times sake.” Anything really to rally Hubbard once last time.

Yuki smiled and whispered in Hiro's ear, "I think we're being watched." she said simply as she looked over at the group that was slowly gathering and noting the looks they were getting. "Thomas did go all out for it. Its a great spread." she acknowledged as she grinned and slowly moved away from him so that they could be more sociable. Plus there was the looks Thomas was giving them as added incentive. She didn't need that biting her on the ass, "Now behave." she chided playfully.
Her eyes glanced about as she noticed the others, moving a bit more in their direction now that they were done with the punch she beamed, "Hello. Nice party." she said with a warm grin, trying to cover her social nerves with a friendly demeanor. She made her way to the other two, "I'm Yuki." she said quietly, not sure if they knew of her or not but playing it safe. Ahh the joys of being so caught up in teaching. Sometimes you didn't know the faculty and it made life interesting.
She stayed relatively close to Hiro still. She never was much of a party mavin and they made her nervous. She'd spent many years being the social outcast and it was a bit hard to shake right away.
