Afternoon time on this beautiful May day at the Academy. Spring was in full bloom with a clear sunny sky. Hiro had made a small stop at the faculty lounge. He normally spent his lunch time either in his own classroom or probably down in the medical wing with Avery since he had the first period after lunch off. Sometimes it could get rather boring when he didn't have anything to do but he tried to make the most of it when he could. He had simply dropped into the lounge to get a cup of coffee. He hadn't gotten the best night's sleeps so he was a little down but not too bad. If it weren't for the fact that he was on school grounds he'd probably slip in something extra into his coffee to give it an extra kick to wake him up.
The coffee was nice and hot. He took a sip from his mug and the taste of it as it flowed down his throat was fantastic. Hits the spot. he thought. Now he was feeling all warm inside. That was until his thoughts were interrupted by a small yelp. The sound came from out in the hall. Hiro being the curious man he was put down his mug on the counter and went to investigate. What he found was not exactly what he had been expecting. "Honestly Yuki. If you want my attention there are better ways than screaming?" he joked as a small smirked formed on his lips. Despite his joking he took a good look at the thunder and realized there was more to this little situation. ""Are you all right?" he asked with more curiosity than actual concern.

✯ HIRO ✯ “I sprained my ankle you self absorbed idiot. If you can't show that you have a soul for five minutes then just go away.” Yuki snapped angrily as she tried to set herself to rights. She'd slipped on a puddle in the floor and her heel had broken on her shoe causing her right ankle to twist painfully. She was not going to ask for help from a jerk like Hiro. She'd rather hobble to the hospital wing herself.
Using the side of the wall she tried to scoot herself upright. It took some doing and she had to grab the water fountain for support but she managed it. Straightening her dress she exhaled softly, pain etched on her face as she tried to gain some of her dignity back. She held her foot up, hesitant to put weight on it and carefully tried to get her purse and carry all that had flown everywhere, “Drat.” she muttered as she looked about and did her best to collect what she could. Looking like an injured bird as she steadied herself and collected things slowly. Tears were in her eyes and she bit her lip softly to keep her dignity.
There was an empty classroom a few feet down, if she could collect her things then hobble in there she could use the intercom and call for medical to help her the rest of the way. She didn't need to rely on an arrogant snob to get things done.
The trick was managing all of that while still collecting her things. She just didn't know how to manage it all by herself. She felt her ankle throb and she winced, looking much younger than her 26 years in that moment with her hair swirling about her in her slightly disheveled state.

This wasn't something he saw very often. When their paths crossed they were basically on equal footing. So one could imagine the amusement in seeing this. Okay, it definitely wasn't the kindest thing to feel, amusement from another's pain. Well, it would depend on the person in his eyes. Being that it was Yuki, it was actually a toss up of whether he should be amused or not and his more darker side was getting the best of him.
He just leaned on the door frame watching the scene unfold in front of him. He sighed after another second. "Here. I'd rather not have to watch you in such a pathetic state anymore." He said before gathering the rest of the things that had been dropped. When that was done he turned back to Yuki and without another word picked her up bridal style and carried inside the faculty lounge before placing her on a chair. "I'm rather curious as to how you let that happen?" He said referring to the sprain as he placed her things on the table next to her and then walked over to the fridge. Opening it up he pulled out an ice packed, grabbed a paper towel, wrapped the two together and walked back over to Yuki. He knelt down in front of her and carefully placed the ice pack on her ankle. "The swelling hasn't wasted a second." He pulled a chair over to rest Yuki's ankle on.
He got up from his position and went back to his coffee mug that he left on the counter. "With that ankle you're not going to be able to continue the rest of today. You'll probably going have to call the medical wing to help you." he said nonchalantly. That would be an interesting visit. Avery loved getting people, but of course the water elemental was well aware of the history between Hiro and Yuki.

✯ Hiro ✯ “Thank you.” she said softly for all that she wanted to smack the smug look off his face. She was in enough pain as it was and didn't want to lose control of her gifts because she let her temper get the better of her. With a soft sigh she rested her head against his shoulder and closed her eyes a moment.
she cracked an eye and looked at him tiredly as he settled her down on the chair and settled her things close by before icing her ankle, “I slipped in a puddle on the floor. I was tired and didn't see it. My grandmother was sick from her chemo treatment last night so I stayed up to take care of her.” she said tiredly as she leaned over and grabbed her cell phone nodding at his suggestion and dialing the medical wing, "Hello this is Yuki Akiyama. I'm a the professor for elementary education, Yes, I'm in the student lounge. I sprained my ankle and was wondering if one of your staff members could help me get to the medical wing and get it examined? Yes, I'm going to need a subsitiute for the day. Yes, thank you that would be lovely. I'll keep an eye out." she said simply as she hung up and looked at Hiro, "Thank you for helping me, Hiro." she said tiredly as she leaned against the couch for a moment.
There were dark circles under her eyes and she sorted her papers while she waited. Making sense of her class notes and setting things to rights again while she waited for Hiro to make some smart alec comment or put her down.

The soft thank you hadn't gone unnoticed but Hiro didn't respond to it. He wasn't looking for thanks nor was he doing this to win any favors. It was basically as he said, it was rather said to see anyone, including her, looking pathetic and just as most would help a wounded dog he figured he'd do the same now. It was as simple as that. When he was leaning on the counter drinking from his coffee mug he was able to get a better look at her. Exhaustion radiated from her entire body. She looked have dead. The price of being a good granddaughter he guessed. If it weren't for the fact that she was helping her grandmother he probably would have made some remark but he held a high respect for the elderly woman so he let it go.
As Yuki made a call to the medical wing he pulled out another cup and decided to pour some of the fresh coffee into it. He smirked at her second thank you. "Well, you know me. Always helping the damsel in distress. Plus, if someone came by and saw me just watching you it wouldn't be good for my reputation." Of course he had to add the sarcastic remark at the end. He couldn't help it when he was around her. Well, he wasn't exactly known for holding back the sarcasm, it just tend to come out a lot more around Yuki and usually in a more insulting manner. He put the cup on the table next to Yuki, "As much as I like what you're doing with the whole "half-dead" thing you're doing, I think you should drink this." he said referring to the coffee. It couldn't hurt to get some caffeine into her system.
They wouldn't be together for long since the medical wing wasn't that far so he expected whoever was going to come and get Yuki would be here soon. "So, how are you planning on getting home now with that ankle?" he asked curiously as he returned to his cup and leaning on the counter.

✯ Hiro ✯ “I'll just tell them you left your pitchfork at home and your horns and tail fell off.” she quipped weakly, too tired to put any venom behind it. She did not feel like arguing with him at this point, she was going to have to get x-rays and they would probably give her pain meds for a day or so. Luckily it was close to the end of the year so she could rest during summer break.
She glanced at the coffee he added and grimaced a bit, “Thanks for the coffee, can you grab me some sugar packets and creamer, please? Black coffee tears up my stomach.” she added so he wouldn't think she was trying to be a pill. She was just too wiped out to be much more than a blob. It beat crying over her ankle that was for certain.
"Well I was going to have my dad collect the car but if you don't mind driving me home I know that Martha knows your favorite dish so you could stay for dinner." she said tiredly. There was no way he could construe it as a date, she was too exhausted for that, "Of course that doesn't help with you getting your car home....sorry, this is a bit out of the blue and I'm hurting a bit much to be thinking clearly right now on no sleep." she apologized for the imposition she was placing on him.

There she was. At least a little bit he guessed. She was able to give back a retort but it was missing a certain kick that normally came with Yuki's comebacks. He'd excuse her since she didn't look like her usual self to begin with. It wasn't as fun though when Yuki wasn't at her full game though. "I am an attractive devil." Is it wrong that he thinks he's good looking? Then sue him. With his money he takes advantage of it at times, his wardrobe didn't come cheap. Yuki's retorts about his looks didn't come from anywhere. He always shrugged them off. No shame in wanting to look good right?
He pulled out some sugars and things for Yuki. As much as Hiro and Yuki may act like cats and dogs at time even he could be civil every once in while. So he handed over the items Yuki had asked for and returned to his position. He wasn't one to drink coffee black. He had a few times but it wasn't all that appealing. Maybe when he had a hangover but that was about it. Even then it was a toss up.
His interest did peak up when Yuki spoke again. Was she really asking this of him? It had been a bit unexpected but when he thought about it it worked out in his favor for personal reasons. "I guess I can do you the favor of driving you home. Lucky for you that my sister has plans for later." as sorry as he felt for Yuki's situation here he wouldn't pick her over his own sister. "And as tempting as dinner sound I'm afraid I'll have to decline. I have my own dinner to make." Hiro had basically become the cook of the house after his parents had passed. His mother had been very good at making sure the family ate home cooked meals on a continuous basis and it was up to him to continue that. By now though his smirked had grew on his face. "You'll just have to honor me with a dinner date on another day." At that moment one of the assistants from the medical wing arrived in the lounge. Hiro picked up his things turned back to Yuki, still wearing a smirk on his lips. "I look forward to our little trip later." he said with a smug look on his face before taking his leave.
