Liam knew that Naima was proud of herself. He could tell by the look on her face, just a flash, which made him wonder what reaction she was expecting to get from the Fire. Maybe nothing at all. Like himself, maybe Nai had been surprised that he had any sort of reaction to the simple gesture of kissing somebody on the cheek. Liam was not one to be one-upped, however, which meant that he wouldn't settle for being surprised like that again. He would have to keep this situation under his little hand of control he brought with him.
Naima closed the distance between them, which was already fairly small to begin, saying that she was going to accept but would no longer should the Fire lose his will to participate. He gave a grin, arching a brow at her. "Well, you seem eager to get started," Liam said smoothly, allowing his eyes to roam the girl's body. Nai was pretty, willowy but strong, which made her the type of person that Liam liked to go after. Somebody that wouldn't be crushed easily but wasn't strong to the point where they could completely beat you up should they feel they needed too.
Her reaction when he cupped her face was almost instantaneous, making her stop moving as she smiled. Nai responded that it was alluring, being perfect was. He cracked a smirk, this one mischievous, as he caught her eyes. "Then this must drive you nuts," he said quietly, his other hand moving easily to the small of her back, pulling her a bit closer to his body. Without allowing himself time to reconsider, one of her more dangerous traits, he closed the distance between his face and hers. A kiss, a deep one at that, all for the love of his game.

”Well, I’ve never seen this version of you before….” Naima admitted, tilting her head a bit, biting her bottom lip. Smiling. ”So far, I’m finding it worth falling for the bait. Be careful, though.” Her eyes creased with her good humor, partially laughing, partially teasing. She knew Liam’s calculating look when she saw it, and the fact that she kept catching hints of it now meant that he was not completely sure footed in this situation. It was for that reason and that reason alone that she was willing to continue with this.
His words made a shiver run up her spin, and the firm touch of his hand on her back made her want to catch her breath. It didn’t make sense, because she’d never felt much more that platonic feelings toward this boy—sure, it was fun to flirt, but it was nice to have a steady friendship. Indeed, even now, she felt something was off with her gut reactions. A sort of discomfort, like something in her gut was shrinking away from him. Still, she found herself smiling as he pulled her closer.
Nai leaned into him as the kissed, raising her hand to his neck, slipping it around behind his head. She applied a light sort of pressure as she deepened the kiss, pulling him closer to her. He tasted amazing, and his smell was intoxicating. She lingered for much longer than she ought to have before she broke the kiss, ducking her head a bit toward his should and sheltering her eyes until she could get her expression under control.
Pleasure would have been fine. Disappointment, excitement…even evidence of the formation of a powerful new affection would have been alright. But what Naima really hadn’t expected was to feel a modicum of distress struggling against the pleasure of the moment. She had to really focus in order to understand where it was coming from, and then she got it. His hand was on one of her older bruises. It didn’t hurt anymore, but it still felt a little tender, and her skin was crawling.
”Mmmm,” Nai brought her eyes up to meet his, aware that she’d been silent for a half a moment too long. She smiled softly, licking her lips as though enjoying the aftertaste he’d left, ”I’d always wondered what that would feel like.” She casually took a step back, letting her arm swing and hit his arm gently to the side, breaking it contact with her. Sure enough, once he was no longer touching her bruise she felt a million times better.
”So…” she said, leaning against him and wrapping her arms around his neck, hips swaying to the beat against his, ”What now?”

It was true that Liam tended to not flirt too much with the girl. That might be why she was suddenly so into the idea, because he'd never turned his charm factor all the way up to ten. There were only a few girls he knew that were able to shut down his pursuits. However, they were also nerds who didn't want to date. He figured if he really wanted them, he could manage to slip through their facades. But, seeing as he didn't need that hit to his status, he tended to just move on with his life.
She could read him. He could tell. It wasn't too difficult when he was being that transparent. Did he really want to change the status between him and Naima? Probably not, but his mind was moving smoothly through its normal course when he was this close to a pretty girl. She wasn't making it easy for him to control himself, that was for sure. Did he want the control? Not particularly. He was already in deep shit down this path so he might as well have as much fun as possible, right?
He was affecting her, allowing himself to move as he normally did. He could see it in her eyes, the way her body tensed slightly at his touch. Liam couldn't say that he blamed her, he was the type of guy to leave even the best of them breathless. He was toxic, somebody to be scared of when he walked into the room. He was a snake with blue eyes, so to speak. A cowboy Casanova, but so much cooler than somebody who wore boots and a hat.
When he kissed her... Well, it was nice. She leaned into him as he pulled her closer, her fingers moving up and around his neck. Natural reflexes for a kiss when you were attracted to somebody, yet Naima had shown little to no attraction towards him. Interesting. His hormones, what wonders they were, wanted him to pick up the smaller girl and carry her someplace else where they could be more alone. However, this was interrupted as Naima pulled away. He cocked his head slightly to the side, a devilish grin on his face. His heart was just above a normal rate, pounding away in his chest.
She didn't speak for a moment, didn't meet his eyes, before she looked up and and commented that she had always wondered what it would be like to kiss him. Nai took a step back, breaking contact between the two. "For not being attracted to me, you certainly enjoyed that," he snarked, giving an arched brow and a devilish grin. What other things had she been hiding from him if she really did want to kiss him?
Naima stepped back again, closing the distance between them and wrapping her arms back around his neck. He matched the rhythm of her hips, a smile playing on his features. "Well, miss Naima, that would be up to you. I've already done my part," he said easily, leaning closer to her ear and giving another smirk. "Now it's your turn, Naima. What is it that you want?" he whispered, pulling himself back to face her as he did.

Brows raised, one slightly higher than the other to form a bemused look. Nai licked her lips, speaking in a slightly overdone sensual voice, ”Now, who ever said I wasn’t attracted to you?” The dynamic actress turned her flirt up to ten as she let a naughty smile break out on her face, one finger tracing his cheekbone…his jawline. She moved closer, her lips very near his, her eyes giving his a taunting stare, ”You’re perfect. Tall, handsome, charming…. So enigmatic that you’re often impossible to look away from.” She lingered in that position for a moment, and then he asked her what she wanted.
What did he expect her to say? He had to know that she was just as slippery as he was, and that today was no exception. Her instincts were to go forward with this, make this no different than anything else. But her defense mechanism, already more prevalent than it used to be, was set off by that uncertain possibility that he could have been leading her on for this since they first met. How was she supposed to know for sure? This was exactly what she should expect from a soul like his.
If she’d known what ending to this night would elicit the most of his respect, she would have made her decision in a heartbeat. Alas, she did not. So she was balancing on a precipice, almost too paralyzed to make any move at all. Finally, she did the only thing she could make herself do; Naima answered his question honestly. That was a twist.
”I want a friend. Someone who respects me. Someone I can trust.” She let the pause go on long enough for it to sick in, then she leaned forward a bit, breathing in deep and whispering in his ear, ”But I would be lying if I didn’t say I want you, tonight. I want a good time. I want a long night of nothing else being real.” She stopped herself before she said ‘I want to escape,’ but the thought did cross her mind. Before she gave herself a chance to think, she impulsively kissed him again.

What was wrong with him? He shouldn't have dared Naima to do this. She obviously was not entirely in to it. Would they be able to go back to being friends afterwards? It seemed unlikely. She would think that he just wanted to use her the entire time, that he didn't actually want anything less than a fuck buddy. But didn't he? It would be nice to have somebody he could go back on, but it wasn't like he would use her for it. If she wanted to be that, then he wouldn't object. But he shouldn't be forcing her hand like this.
He couldn't help it though. She was making it so hard to focus, to think clearly, to really be able to chose what was good for him. The places her fingers touched his skin felt more alive, prickling like little needles against his skin. She complimented, moving her face closer to him. Liam couldn't help it, he closed his eyes, revealing in the heat of her body so close to him. She was attractive, dangerous, and so close to him he couldn't help but be distracted. There wasn't much more he could do that was stopping himself from just losing it.
Except... Well, that. He wouldn't go through with it. Liam wasn't stupid, he knew the difference between girls wanting him and not. He wasn't going to continue this if she just wanted to be friends. He would be going against consent and he wasn't about ready to get charged for rape or something like that. He started to put a bit of distance between the two of them, or would have, should she not have leaned forward and whispered in his ear.
His eyes closed, taking in her words. A pressure built in his stomach, like butterflies, and if she hadn't already forced her lips against his he would have done the same. He had a sharp intake of breath before he matched her intensity, pulling her closer almost roughly. Well, there went his control in the situation. He rested her hand on her lower back, the other hand twisting into her hair. He didn't really care that they were in the middle of the dance floor, where anybody could see them. This was who he was, reckless, dangerous... Liam hoped that she hadn't just been testing him with those last words, else he'd really fucked up this time.

The pressure on her back didn’t bother her this time. He’d managed not to hit the worst of the bruise, and she honestly could barely feel the difference. Her mind gave her no freedom to think as he embraced her with more passion than she’d ever expected from him, her knees almost buckling. Nai deepened the kiss, the one hand running though his hair from the back, the other pressing against his chest lightly, slowly exploring up to his shoulder and then wrapping around him to pull him further into the kiss.
Naima tilted her head forward, breaking the kiss by press her forehead against his. She took a deep breath, opening her eyes to see if she could catch his, interpret his expression. Her eyes narrowed, but she made sure her own face would be hard to read. Hard to tell whether her open-mouthed breathing and furrowed brow were the signs of disapproval or intense emotion. She breathed in his scent again, running her tongue along her lips before deciding to skip the suspense.
Both of her hands moved behind his ears, and she nipped at his lip once before pulling him back into another deep kiss. One hand stayed where it was, but the other one reached unabashedly down the back of his shirt, stretching as far down as she could reach and then pulling up with her nails lightly pressed against his skin. Not painful. Most men she tried it on found it very pleasant. She was just pressing her body against his, chest, hips, one leg starting to move lightly between his, when something completely killed the mood.
Her phone went off.
Normally she’d ignore it, but it was enough of a jolt to her brain that she realized what she was doing and had a moment of intense panic. He was her friend! Her pride told her that it was absolutely out of the question to let him use her the way he did other women. And despite what she’d just said to him—which a timid part of her told her she’d meant—she found herself pulling back behind her walls. Because he made her more excited than she’d ever felt before, and that was terrifying.
She backed away from him a little too quickly, barely keeping her composure as she reached into the hidden pocket of her dress’ neckline and pulled out the angry, buzzing phone. She looked at the caller ID…
…and went deathly pale, ”Oh…shit.”
She didn’t move. She hadn’t even thought about this, the fact that they’d be expecting her by now. The fact that maybe Friday night was a bad time to disappear, because it left the rest of the weekend vulnerable. True fear actually showed on her face; it was her father.

Liam didn't really know exactly where this energy was coming from. Well, he did. It was how he reacted whenever he was kissed. There was a reason he managed to ensnare so many people and it was because, when it came to kissing, he was the best guy out there. He felt her hand move through his hair, one of his more likable things for girls to do while kissing, and moving the other on his chest before pulling him closer. For wanting respect, but just a night, she was definitely surprising him. Had she been thinking about this for a while or did she always kiss her friends like this?
She broke the kiss off and he let out an exhale, his heart pounding in his chest and his breathing a bit more rapid than it had been earlier. His eyes opened and he met hers. Narrowed, her face difficult for him to read. Did she not like it? Did he screw up jumping on the bait like that? She licked her lips and he was sure that she was going to say something, tease him or something, and he would have played it off as just that. He was teasing her. That he wouldn't do it again, if that was what she wanted.
But instead, she connected there lips again with a little bite before resuming where they had left off. He gave a sort of chuckle, moving his hand through her hair again as he pulled her closer. Liam felt on fire where her hands touched, as one slipped down his back. Naima was right in thinking he'd like it as a slight moan escaped his lips and his hand slipped a bit lower, brushing the edge of her pant line before a sound split through the air around them and he jumped a bit startled by the sound. He wasn't used to being interrupted. It wasn't his fault, of course. It's just most people had their phone on silent in the club.
She moved away from him quickly, reaching into her dress and pulling out her phone. He was about to poke some fun at her for it going off, call her lame or something like that. Playful. He had no idea the true severity of the situation until she went almost comically pale and looked scared. Really unsure on how to act for the matter, he cocked his head to the side and leaned to look at the caller ID on the phone. "You alright, Nai Nai?"

”What?” Nai said, stunned. She noticed Liam looking at her phone too late; he’d definitely had a chance to see bright, bold “DAD” on the screen of her phone by the time she’d pressed the silent button and lowered her hand. She started shaking her head, completely unable to gather her thoughts. Oh, he’d asked her if she was alright. Nainai, he’d called her. ”No, no no…Yeah, I’m fine.” My god that was the most horrible acting she had ever done. She actually started getting angry at herself. Then she smiled quietly, counting to herself all the things her father would hit her for later.
One for not going home immediately after class. Another just for fun. Naima let out a long breath and disconnected the call before it was done ringing. Three. And she fully intended to show up at home drunk. That was four. She frowned, then turned to Liam, ”I need another drink.” Her heart was pounding, but it was no longer because of her friend. Terror had sent adrenaline to every limb, and she needed to relax. And maybe not go home tonight at all. That would be five. Maybe Liam would be a good idea after all. Maybe he could help her just not go home at all this weekend.
”I need another drink,” she said again, her expression rather vague as she stepped away from him and moved toward the bar. Then she stopped, and turned back to him, trying to gain control of her demeanor. She put a small smile on her face, quelled the shaking in her arms. Yeah, he knew something was wrong, or else he was an idiot. Anything else she would have just given up and tried to use the truth to her advantage. But this time, no. No way this was going to see the light of day.
Naima grasped his hand, giving a bit of a pleading look and smiling coyly, ”Sorry to kill the moment, love. I usually remember to silence my phone when I come here.”

DAD.
Well, that was interesting. Naima didn't really ever talk about her family, of course she had one, but typically when somebody got a call from their parents they ran to answer it. He wouldn't have been surprised should Naima felt she needed to run down the street where the club couldn't be heard and pick up the call. From what he'd observed, parents were very worrisome creatures, always wanting to know where you were located at any given time. His Grandmama tended not to worry too much about him, which was good for him.
He was met with negative for her status before it changed to a yeah, I'm fine. "Like Hell you're fine," she remarked as she silenced her phone and then turned to him after a moment, saying she needed a drink. She started towards the bar, repeating her sentence before turning back to him. She was scared, terrified, frightened... Yet, she smiled and stopped her arms from shaking as she waited for him. Females...
Her hand met his, tugging on him slightly as she apologized for killing the mood. Alright, if she didn't want to talk about it, he wasn't going to dig right now. He followed her motion, heading to the bar and ordering them some more drinks. The least he could do was make her feel a bit better. Maybe if she got a bit drunk she would talk to him about it. Not that he really was sure he wanted her too, but it was thought that counted, right?

”I’m fine, ok?” She said a little more forcefully when he answered her, but managed to keep her demeanor casual. She didn’t wanna deal with this crap right now, but she sure as hell wasn’t going to go home. And as she downed the next drink in a single breathless chug, she realized that she wasn’t going to goof off with him anymore, either. Because he had touched her bruise once and there was nothing to keep him from doing it again. And if he got any of her clothes off then he’d see her bruises and that would open up everything and….
Naima actually started to breathe a little more rapidly than usual. She stared at her empty drink for a few seconds, then fumbled to place it on the bar without breaking it. She looked around distractedly, as if she had forgotten where she was. Then she turned and looked and Liam, took a step forward, then stopped. She started to say something, then shook her head. ”Damnit…” Yeah maybe that drink hadn’t been helpful, ”I have to go. I’m sorry.”
She couldn’t even think of something to say to explain. So she didn’t, just turned and left the club. She couldn’t even let herself think about how to explain this to him later.
END
