It hadn't been such a bad day. Her students hadn't been so bad, save for a couple of the more obnoxious ones, but whatever. Chris wasn't afraid to put a bunch of kids in their places -- and by "their places", she didn't mean detention, at least not mainly. The young woman could cut people up with words (and wasn't afraid to throw a few punches, either) and while she obviously held off on totally bitching out all of her students, she had actually gotten pretty good at keeping them all behaved. She wasn't as much the teacher from hell as they all thought sometimes, though, not really. She was perfectly pleasant when they weren't being awful brats, and today had been one of those days when, luckily for everyone, she was able to remain perfectly pleasant, with the exception of one kid, but things had turned out okay. Yes... all in all it had definitely not been a bad day.
Despite this, she was on yet another cup of coffee. She didn't know how many -- not because the number was so high she'd lost count or something, but Chris had stopped worrying about this sometime around the end of January. Even for a young teacher -- perhaps especially for such a young teacher -- it was kind of stressful. The actual teaching wasn't so bad, but it was... it was... She didn't even know what the fuck it was, but Chris did know that this was a pretty strange job for someone like herself to be in. She kind of thought in a way that it might have been nice to take some time off after she'd graduated college, but that wasn't really the way it had worked out. Sometimes these things were... one-time-only offers, and she guessed that it was a good idea tos top baying off loans as soon as she could. She still knew that, it was just that she was pretty sure she had an abnormally high amount of caffeine in her blood at this point and that really was not healthy in the slightest.
She sipped at her coffee anyway as the students copied the last part of the equation that she'd just written for them on the board. A few of them raised their hands. "Just copy for now, I'll explain in a second," she said, and the hands fell back down. Once this was all done, she made good on her promise and explained. It hadn't been so long since Chris had taken this class... okay, a good few years, but she could remember the lessons that had stuck out in her mind at least, if she couldn't remember all of it. This made lesson plans a bit easier. The ones she found hardest were ninth grade classes, in fact. "So just remember you have to take the negative of whatever 'd' is and you should be fine," she finished, dropping the hand she'd been using to point at the graph on the screen -- there was no way she was handdrawing that shit on a blackboard. "Any more questions?"

Kiya wasn't the worst a math, though she could say that she wasn't the best either! She passed last year and that was all that really mattered to her at this point, that she could do what ever in class; make it look like she was actually doing her work; and still some how pass because her online friends would start yelling at her to study and it wasn't pretty when you have 7 or so guys and may be often girl, yelling at you to get off and hit the books. It had always worked, but that doesn't mean that she ever really liked to do it. But this year was different, a few nights during the past term she had actually gotten some sort of work done and it was hurting her. Mentally and Physically. Well, not really physically but you get the idea. To miss out on just a few nights was big for her, mainly considering the fact that a few really good games had come out recently and she was already a few level behind everyone and it was killing her inside.
She would just have to live though. Being in a higher grade meant more work and having to actually concentrate in class, unfortunately and today was just that. She was copying down the formula and the problems that the teacher had put up, even though she really didn't want to. One thing that Kiya did notice was the fact that this was the teacher fifth cup of coffee this lesson and she was surprised that she wasn't bouncing off the walls, considering that is what she would be doing at this point. But that would also be because Kiya really couldn't handle her coffee at all. She only needed one to get her up after a long night and she was ready to go for the day, no matter how much sleep she had actually gotten during the previous night.
One thing she always did was imagine that her problem, in maths or any other subject like it, was a program that she was either trying to crack or create. It always made it easier, at least most of the time it did. Right now, not so much. Kiya kept looking at the board and then down at the notes that she had taken, then back at the board, and then looked over at the teacher and then back to her book but it was not clicking. Though it seemed like it hadn't click for a few other people as well, you could tell seeing as a whole heap of people currently had their hand up to ask a question. She was hoping not to join them but as soon as she had started to raise her hand all her heard was, "Just copy for now, I'll explain in a second,". So that was what she did, continued to stare at her book in awe until she heard Miss. Smith continue with what she was saying. "So just remember you have to take the negative of whatever 'd' is and you should be fine, Any more questions?" This was she had been waiting for, Kiya shot her hand up and said, "So, if take the negative of d then what would happen if the negative if d was the positive of b?" To be honest Kiya really had little idea about what she had asked but you know, why not. Teacher always help you out, right?

It was weird to pinpoint the exact things that bothered or annoyed or angered Chris. To begin with, she was easily-annoyed, but some of the things that people would expect her to be bothered by... really did nothing either way for her, and that was probably the weirdest part of it. Poor manners tended to bother her, but it really depended on the situation. She wasn't what most people would consider the most polite -- she was too outspoken, too loud, too blunt -- but at least she didn't talk with her mouth full or insult people's outfits or something on sight. Chris was no idiot, after all. She knew what she was doing and when it was appropriate to do certain things. It was why she appreciated, thanks, when students didn't shout out randomly -- there were times when it was okay, but this was not one of them. Well... at least Kiya had raised her hand before asking her question. That did make Chris a little... well, not happier, but she didn't know what the appropriate word would be. She frowned when she heard the question, however.
"If negative 'd' is 'b'?" she repeated, confused by the question. She turned to look back at what she had written on the board, just making sure that she had everything correct in her mind before she said, "But it... doesn't matter, since there's no 'b' in this form of the equation." Though Chris could be considered kind of mean, she did hope that she didn't make the girl looked stupid or anything by saying this, but then again most people were already bent over their homework, not really paying attention. In her class, this was usually what she preferred, for them to just do work if they didn't have any troubles. Then she could just spend time talking to whoever she wanted -- especially in the older grades, she always thought it was better if they did things fairly independently, so if they wanted to slack off and strike up conversation with their oh-so wonderful Math teacher instead, she wasn't going to stop them. "There's only a 'b' if you rearrange it to standard form," she explained.
(oh man i don't remember that much about the different forms of equations so i apologize for any faulty math that chris may be teaching. @_@ i promise she knows what she's talking about... but do not.)

If there was one thing that Kiya really loved doing during class, other than sleeping and doing shit all, it was either asking questions on what the teacher or just making them frustrated. She knew what to ask, with some teacher, to press their buttons and it was something that she had always been able to do! Though, where was one thing that Kiya did know for sure and that was when to stop. She had known from some situations that she had been in in the past with some of the teachers from her old school and this seemed to be one of those moments, but it was a light bulb for the girl. Miss. Smith just happened to be drink coffee which meant that she was either going to be confused, happy or just that the coffee wasn't to affect her and she was going to get into major trouble! She had to admit, she had no idea what she was talking about, or at least she only had a small idea on what was going on with her problem?
"But it... doesn't matter, since there's no 'b' in this form of the equation." Miss. Smith had said and it was at this point that she wondered why she was even calling her that. Miss would be just as alright for this situation, though she didn't if it was just this teacher. "There's only a 'b' if you rearrange it to standard form," Miss's explanation seemed to be alright and it made much more sense then what was actually going in her mind when she had asked the question in the first place. It was now that just another question came to her mind! "So if y= ax^4[+] bx^3[+] cx^2[+] dx [+] e in this quartic equation and then you figure out that f(x) = 0, you should get ax^4 [x] bx^3 [x] cx^2 [x] dx [x] e = 0. Right?" This time she knew that she was actually on to something. At least she had thought so! To her knowledge it was just some, a little more complicated versions of quartic equation. She remembered reading about this stuff earlier on in the year and it turned out that this was one of the only things that had actually stocked in her mind some how. Hopefully, for her sake, she actually knew what she was talking about this time! Hopefully!
((I got the infomation for this stuff here. Hopefully that makes what I said make a little more sense. : D)) [/size]

Oh, functions. How Chris loved and hated functions. She had to say that college math was infinitely (teehee) better, but then she guessed that it built on in a way, so all of this stuff was what her professors would have called the fundamentals. It had never much bothered Chris, any of it actually. Most things in Math had been easy enough for her, things she could commit to memory without issue, and really, it was all patterns and the same shit over and over again. If anything, it was tedious and it was even worse when she had to teach it to a bunch of kids, many of whom had no idea what the hell was going on... but it was alright. It was for the money, for an apartment to live in and college tuition to be paid off slowly but surely. Ugh, fuck the Academy and its noise with its tuition in college and all that -- she missed high school if only for that reason, for free meals and an available dorm (not that she had stayed in one, since her parents lived in town) and classes that she never had to pay a dime for. It did make sense, though. Chris knew enough about finances to know that they all had to make money somehow. Apparently she had to make hers teaching kids something that they were likely never to use in later life.
She struggled to think and focus, when all she really wanted to do was lay her head down and take a nap or something like she might have done in high school. Oh, jeez, Chris hadn't always been the greatest of students, but she hadn't made it through only by slacking off throughout school. Especially in her later years and in college, she'd had to buckle down for real. She'd guess that this class of eleventh graders was now starting to go through that same thing, except for slackers who'd probably never experience it, and overachievers who'd always needlessly done it. "Plus, not times. So 0 = ax^4 + bx^4 + cx^2... and so on," she said, hoping she was correctly interpreting the question in the first place. She wasn't really sure why Kiya asked half of the things she did sometimes, but there were students like that. Sometimes, Chris was pretty sure the girl just did it to push her buttons, but luckily for her, she wasn't that easily-annoyed... Right, that was a lie, she was extremely easily annoyed, but she was slowly learning to put up with it in the case of teaching. "But other than that, yeah, that sounds about right. Any other questions?" She addressed the class at the last part, but no hands went up. "Right. Any further questions... You can come see me personally. Everyone else -- homework's there for you." She had always hated textbooks with a passion, herself.

To say that this was one of Kiya favorite things to do in any of her classes was an understatement at the least. She had many teachers in her family, so she knew what would annoy them and what would make them just love you as a student, considering she used to spend most of her time at their house to get help with her homework and assignments when she would forget to do them and wait until the last minute. But though at times having teacher in your family was one of the most hated things Kiya had. She always had help but they would always end up trying to control the situation and trying to do it themselves and that was what bothered. So coming to the academy was a good change but it also meant that she only had her friends to help her and sometimes people get sidetracked and end up playing games but that wasn't Kiya's fault at all. NOT AT ALL! And that wasn't the half of it. It would always end up being that she would ask the stupid questions that half the class is thinking and then the teacher would answer. Sometimes she really wondered if people even knew how to speak when it came to asking teachers questions about work.
Then there was this situation. Kiya had always been good at Math due to her love of computer programming, it may have been weird but that was Kiya in a nut shell. It had been the same deal as always. She asked the question, teacher asked, decided it was the end of class and then pretty much everyone would leave and herself and a few other people would stay and ask further question about the days work or an assignment or they would just want to stand around and troll everything in sight. Today was going to be one of those days. She really hated this sort of stuff and with everything going on around her with family it was the last thing that she really wanted to not know about it. This was her element and she was gonna bend it like the avatar or just go home. As soon as the class had left the room with their newly found homework in mind she slowly walked up to the desk to try and at least some more information about the stuff, seeing as her memory was going down fast and that was the last thing that she needed. As soon as she reached the teacher she looked up and said, "Umm, Miss. Did you have any other work that I could do with this? Or at least a different way of using the equation?"

There were no more questions, apparently, because there was nobody else who came up to see her. She made small talk instead with some kid in the front who looked half-dead. It was Grade Eleven, and while these kids weren't exactly adults, they were old enough to do their own shit without her babysitting them. If this kid in the front didn't want to do his work, that was his own problem... and Chris was willing to start up a conversation with pretty much everyone, her students included. Some of them were pretty hilarious... and others were annoying as fuck, but this was the kind of thing that she got to deal with. "And there's the bell," she said, kind of proud of her timing as the bell rang just then. Chris really had been in this place for far too long. "You forgot your textbook!" she called after one of her students, and the girl came scurrying back to get it... and then Chris heard someone speak and she looked over to see that Kiya had approached the desk.
Chris would consider herself a relatively competent teacher, although not one with particular experience or anything of the sort to back her up on that. Her tests were fair and most of her students did well enough -- or at least, no worse than she thought they'd do otherwise, and that was fine by her. "Other work?" She tended to give a pretty fair amount of homework as it was -- though hopefully not overkill, or she certainly didn't think it was, and she definitely remembered being a student who hated homework. "Mm... well, there aren't any other ways to use the equation other than what I said already." She did explain things, of course. It seemed pretty unfair (although hilarious) to throw these kids to the proverbial dogs of math without at least adequately preparing them. "Would it help if I gave you different worksheets? It has less word problems and more straightforward things. I guess it could help you get ready for the harder stuff in the textbook?" She frowned. "What's giving you trouble?" Chris wasn't the most sympathetic (or the kindest, really) teacher, but she never wanted these kids to fail or anything. She wasn't heartless.

It was finally the end of class, it was the finally that time of the day or at least it was at least time for a break and she would be able to sleep for a little while. It wasn’t the only thing that Kiya was thinking about but it was defiantly something that she was able to look forward to overall. Though it wasn’t until her teacher had actually made it sound that the lesson was over that Kiya actually felt sort of happy, in a way. She loved the fact that she would be able to sleep or at least be able to just relax and eat a little. It was just amazing like that. It was as soon as she had asked the teacher for help that she remembered that her break wasn’t going to be as long as it usually was, unfortunately. Kiya knew that if she wanted to get ahead and be able to pass this class with a lot of room there just in case. That wasn’t to much to ask was it. Apparently with Kiya is was, just a little to much because of how much stuff she had to do. Yep, so much stuff that she had to do, because her gaming and internet life was just as important as anything else was at the moment. Well, it was one of the only things that did keep her sane half the time.
As much as other work did really annoy her it was something that she really needed to be able to pass the subject, let alone be able to pass with the amount of room for failure, you know just in case, you never really know what is going to happen in her life. Stuff could go amazingly and she could do alright but it only takes a couple minutes for the good mood to change and for everything to go downhill. That was something that she really didn’t need! “Oh,” At she was trying to help her, there was teachers that had already given up on giving her help half the time. It may be a little annoying but after a few years she had gotten over it, it was normal for her now, “That would be really awesome, Miss!” You could tell that she was at least happy that she would be able to get some sort of help from the teach, it was also just the fact that she was willing to help. Though as soon as she had asked what was giving her trouble she couldn’t help but just it was more the fact that she just need to have that extra blanket of help to know what she was doing. Kiya thought that it she might as well say that then, “It is more the fact that I would rather go over everything to make sure that I know what I am doing, if you know what I am talking about..”

Chris would say that she was a fairly flexible person in the sense that she was able to try new things, but this was only when she was fairly comfortable. As a new teacher, she couldn't say that she was quite at that point yet where she was able to go ahead and change the gameplan for every single student who needed help. It wasn't that she was unwilling to help, but hey, even Chris had her limits. She wasn't able to figure something different out for everyone. If the initial lesson didn't work, Chris didn't think she was going to be able to get much further by going into depth about it with anyone, even on a one-on-one level. She couldn't explain more than she already had. The happiness was apparent in Kiya's voice, though. Chris wondered what was up with that, but she didn't need to pry into her students' lives. "I think most people wouldn't say that getting extra work is 'really awesome', but okay," Chris said, kind of amused, but she reached into the desk drawer without complaint and pulled from it a pretty heavily stuffed folder. "This -- all for you," she said with a straight face, gesturing at the entire folder, but it was a joke. These were just copies of worksheets she'd received from other teachers and a couple of things from her own teacher's workbook. She wouldn't assign all of this to a student at once... not unless she really hated them at least, and she was pretty okay with Kiya.
"Here," she said afterward, pulling out the relevant work, some three or four pages and handing it over to Kiya. She figured that her joke from before would be obvious, so she didn't bother saying so, just continued on. "You can do as much or as little as you want, obviously, I'm not going to check." She occasionally checked when it came to the younger kids, the ones in Grade Nine and such, but it was less of a deal for these guys. Chris couldn't be bothered to check homework for a bunch of kids who were graduating in less than two years, hell no. Plus, this stuff was extra that Kiya had asked for, so it'd be a dick move to check this either way. "But that should hopefully be a good start. I mean... if you want more stuff late ryou can always come back and ask for more?" Chris shrugged a little. Hey, she didn't have to do any extra work in just handing over any worksheets. "Or if you don't get it still you can ask. Almost every day after school if you come here straight away." She didn't hang around for long, but she was willing to stay for a few minutes and then for longer if anyone actually came to her for help. Then again there were also bad days when all she wanted to do was go home, but that was... not pertinent to the conversation.

IT wasn’t like she was a lazy or anything; it was more the fact that most of the times Kiya really just didn’t have the motivation to be able to do anything. Games where what made her, her and that was something that I don’t think she would give up for anything, or at least anything that she would could think of that the present moment. Getting the help with her work had always been the hardest thing for the wind girl, due to the fact that she was way to awesome for that stuff, but also for the fact that she was worried that people would think she was stupid. It wasn’t like she was or anything, it was more the principle of the insult that hurt. Even just these little bits of help that she was getting for her teacher was just as good as anything, or at least until she got back to her dorm tonight! Once her teacher and mention what she had said about the extra work she couldn’t help but laugh just a little bit to herself, “Well, you never know miss. This could be that extra bit between me passing and not. That is pretty awesome to me!” Well, it was true. As much as she loved her math and was good at it, you never really know what is going to happen during the exam or test itself. Though Kiya really hadn’t realised how much work she would have to do until it was right in front of her, which was just a little said. It just meant that she would have no excuses for failing this part of her final’s! Which is just a little sad when you think about it. “That is a lot of pages you got there miss,” Kiya said while taping the edge of the large, but not really that large, pile.
“Well, that looks a lot better, I have to say.” As soon as she actually gave Kiya the relevant work, which thankfully was only a couple of pages . Though not having the teacher check her work was also a good thing because that was the last thing that she really needed at this point. Well, she was almost a senior so it really didn’t surprise her that the teacher didn’t want to check the work. It was all alright with Kiya. It was something different to actually have a teacher that was sort of alright with you is something that Kiya wasn’t really familiar with. She just guessed that most of the teachers really didn’t have the best relationship with her because of her amazing track record with homework and assignments! “That she be more than enough, thank miss.” It wasn’t like she was just making up what she was saying on the stop, if this teacher liked her than she would like her back. Well, as much as you could like a teacher, I guess. “I have a feeling that I may be seeing you after school in a couple days though, just a heads up.” Well at least she was giving good warning.

For students who actually took school somewhat seriously, passing wasn't a laughing matter -- but most students who took school seriously didn't have an actual problem with passing. It was getting those high grades that seemed to be the most important, and that was the hard part... or the easy part, depending on who it was, because she knew that there were just kids who didn't do a damn thing and still did well, but that was life. She felt for the kids who tried and still didn't do particularly well, but she couldn't tell what group Kiya was a part of, if she actually really... cared or not. A couple of things would suggest no, she didn't, but then again she was here asking for help, so she had to at least be concerned about the possibility of failing. "I guess passing would be good, yeah. What was the most recent mark update I gave you?" It wasn't that she didn't look at the marks or anything, but there was no reason for her to remember every single student's. "Yeah, all left over from other Math teachers and stuff like that." Chris rolled her eyes a little at the thought. "They like to think I need all the help or something." She shouldn't have been badmouthing her co-workers, but she doubted Kiya was likely to say anything. Christina was just annoyed easily -- and she didn't much like being looked down on by her fellow teachers.
She just nodded when Kiya said that this looked better. "Should be more manageable. Just slightly." It was a joke, kind of, and she hoped that her student would pick up on it, but that was okay if she didn't. It wasn't like it'd been something needlessly mean-sounding that she'd need to clear up for danger of hurting someone's feelings or anything. "Okay. That's good." She just nodded. Chris wasn't exactly a person of few words all the time or anything, but there was no need to get all rambly and nonsensical about something as simple as handing a student some extra work. Plus, making a big deal out of it would make it sound like it was some kind of great thing, and it really wasn't. She wasn't going to belittle these kids -- unless they challenged her first, but that seemed unlikely with Kiya in general. Chris wasn't afraid to take down anyone who challenged her, though, so this was just a lucky thing all around. "That's fine! Just don't... take long to get here after class, alright? Because I leave after a few minutes if no one comes." When students came she was pretty willing to stay behind and help -- most days, at least -- but other than that, she was so not sticking behind. She'd spent quite enough time at the Academy as it was.

It wasn’t like Kiya didn’t care about school or anything, it was more that she just didn’t get stuff some of the time. Well, that was a bit of an understatement but it was still true. One of the main things that kept Kiya’s grades down was the fact that she couldn’t keep her knowledge of the subject in her mind, it was always escape somehow. She didn’t know how or why it happened but she would always forget things that she didn’t mean too! But as soon as her current Math’s teacher had asked about the last grade that she had given her, Kiya had to admit that it was something that she had to think about. It was just ones of things that had escaped her mind for some reason and she was pretty sure that she would never find it out, unless she decided not to be lazy and just try to find whatever she was looking for in her head. “Umm, I think that it was a satisfactory mark, nothing to big from what I remember.” Kiya was always one of those people that if you were able to link things in your chosen subject to something that she might understand then she will do amazing; it is just the way that the cookie crumbles. Though, as soon as the teacher sitting in front of her started to bad mouth the other teacher she couldn’t help but laugh just a little to herself. “I won’t tell anyone miss, don’t worry.” Well, at least she was a trustworthy person that was for sure.
Sometimes even joking about something with a teacher was just breaking the ice, this may or not have been that moment but it sure had Kiya laughing and that was always a good thing. “You said it!” Well, may not have seemed like they were best friends or anything but she could tell that she was going too alright with this teacher at least. It wasn’t like she would have done everything that was in the original pile. She was a generally lazy person after all, am I right. She was more in the mindset that something would happen to her, in a good way, if she was to actually do something to help herself. In this case it was more because she really wanted a good mark in this class and she was going to do anything to get it, which was for sure! Kiya was a sort of active person, sort of. It really depended on what you were trying to get her to do. If you were to say that Assassin’s Creed 3 was selling free copies a few months early then she would be running for life and all you would see would be a puff of smoke coming from behind her. “I will try my best to do that, you can count on it!” It was at this point that she looked at the clock on the wall and just began to wonder whether or not she could be going to class, it wasn’t like she remembered what time her next period class started or anything.

She had generally had a pretty good track record in school when it came to grades. There were, of course, things that she'd struggled in a little more than others, but on the whole Chris was pretty good in the field of academics. Being a teacher was maybe a little difficult because of this, but the best she'd done so far was just refuse to patronize the kids, and it had worked to an extent. Well, of course, it worked more for some students than others, and honestly it was a little disappointing that it didn't seem to be working for Kiya. She wasn't a nanny, though, even if many of these kids boarded at the school and therefore really were under her care in such a sense when she was working. God, that was a weird thought, but luckily she hadn't yet had any weird situations with these kids calling her mom or something. Pfft, Mom -- she wasn't nearly old enough to be any of their mothers. As such, she couldn't say that she was needlessly concerned with the grades so long as Kiya was happy with hers. "Well, satisfactory's... you know, satisfactory. As long as you're good with your mark then I'm good," she said, nodding. That wasn't, of course, to discourage any of her students from asking for help.
Kiya seemed like one of her cooler students, now that she had the chance to talk with the girl for a bit. Chris also knew that she was the Wind leader, which was interesting if only because it... well, it reminded Chris of herself. Twelfth grade had been fucking badass with her as the leader and she was well aware of it -- kept those bitches in line and everything. Truthfully it was one of the main driving forces behind staying at the Academy for college though she could have probably gone elsewhere. She'd enjoyed the power even though of course she wasn't a leader in her college years. "Good," she said when the girl said she'd keep shut about it. "Or else." She added the last part for good measure, though she doubted that Kiya was likely go to telling any old teachers anything. She opened her mouth to say more but then she spotted Kiya's glance over to the clock and she looked over there as well. Ah, well. That was great -- next period already. "Anyway that should be just fine for now, so you should be heading off to class," she said, getting to her feet as well. It was strange operating by a high school schedule again but in the end it hadn't been so bad. She'd survived thus far. Chris did remember from having to be a teacher who was responsible for such things that next period would be starting... just about now. "I'll see you later -- check in again if you have any more questions." She saw the girl out the door and then let in her next class. Urgh, fun. Chris just loved work.
(i figure we can end it here if you want, or you can post again? but this seems a good place. XD)
