Sorry about that.
Second to the dungeons, the dormitory and the grounds, Sammy’s favourite place was the Mess Hall. Being a growing boy (or so he prayed nightly!), Samuel always looked forward to his meals. He was a big eater and took advantage of the food that was on offer. He was usually the first person down at breakfast, the first person to lunch and the first person to dinner, truly believing that if he got the freshest servings of food it would somehow give him a growth spurt, and of course it gave him a front row seat to the action that occurred at meal times. He found it to be a little bit like a watering hole, a group of people who hated each other pushed together for the amusement of… well he wasn’t sure who exactly were getting their kicks, other than him, but someone definitely was. Nobody did something so morbid as put water and fire together merely for dining purposes.
Samuel pushed open the door to the Mess Hall, wrinkling his nose as the scent of something heavy and sweet violated his nostrils; he knew at once that it was the good chefs day off, unless they were experimenting on introducing some heinous kind of gruel that even Oliver Twist would feel brave enough to turn down. His teeth pushed down on the pluckered flesh of his lower lip, a disappointed frown settling in on his face as he glanced up to see if any of his friends had arrived. As he’d expected, the Mess Hall was near enough empty, but for a few of those weird Earth Kids hanging around and unfamiliar freshmen dotted about across tables. Samuel always hated it when they did that, limiting his choice of table. Sure the tables were all the same but there’d be a lot more of them if all the anti social freshmen didn’t just crowd onto one or, better yet, eat in the stables, if there were any. Despite the distasteful feelings that Samuel had for the freshmen at the Academy, he could remember very fondly his freshmen year, or perhaps not so fondly. He remembered the humiliation on his first day at the Academy as he tried to join his big brother on his table. To cut a long story short, Samuel still felt the shame at having to walk away, his shoulders hunched, from the laughter echoing from his brother and his brother’s friends. School was a lot better now that Sawyer wasn’t there. He shook his head and walked deeper into the hall, careful to walk slowly as he did a double take of each face that he passed. Samuel’s sense of humour could be described as mischievous, a sense of humour that had gotten him into more than enough trouble in the past, but he just wasn’t feeling up to going after random freshmen right now. Food was most certainly his main priority, even though the gruelling scent began to sicken him as he approached the counter. Anyway it would be harder getting a kick out of making random people cry since he didn’t know or care about them, he’d have to dig into the depths of his brain to come up with something to make them tick, or just burn their food or set their books on fire, but that too took effort.
Finally the sight matched the scent, and Samuel made a disgusted grimace. How was it possible that he was served such amazing food yesterday and today he was given something he wouldn’t even feed his dog? Nothing really stood out to him as eatable but he couldn’t deny the ache from his grumbling stomach as the feeling of starvation began to torment him. It didn’t matter that he’d eaten only a few hours beforehand, Samuel was hungry, he wasn’t used to going without. He sighed and glared bitterly at the sloshing brown liquid or perhaps solid, before marching over to the sandwich selection. This was safer, boring but safe and they didn’t smell so bad. Sammy picked not one but two up and grabbed some chips and a drink. Now he just had to hope for some kind of entertainment to play out, perhaps one of his friend would join him or perhaps one of his targets would cross his path, either way his priority on food probably wouldn’t last very long.
He headed over to his usual table, careful to push past an unsuspecting freshman as he did so. He had a smirk to his face as he placed the tray of food down in front of him, positioning himself so that he had a good view of the inhabiting students. Maybe until someone did show up, he would enjoy himself staring at them, generally freaking them out. Freshmen were scared of seniors anyway, weren’t they? He adjusted the band of his jeans as he got comfortable in his chair, wondering curiously how long he’d have to wait for some kind of amusement.

Classes had ended early for the eleventh grade thunder boy today, and he, like most boys his age the first thing on his mind when he hit the door was food. He stopped off in the dorms to drop off his bag then headed straight for the mess hall. He stopped short when he got to the doors though. The smell leaking out from the small cracks led him to believe that the food they'd be serving this afternoon would be less then desirable, and that was putting it nicely. No way in hell would he be able to stuff something down that smelled that bad. He took a few steps away from the doors and leaned against the wall. What was he going to eat now? Then another thought came to mind, Sammy. If there was one person in this whole school that loved food more then him it was Sammy. A mental image of what his face might look like when he caught wind of the smells coming out the mess hall made Andy burst into a little fit of giggles. He was defiantly going to have to do something about this. He pulled his android out of his pocket and checked the time, he had about thirty minutes before regular classes let out, that just might be enough time. Shoving his phone back in his pocket he took off at a run toward the big double doors that led out to the grounds.
As he darted out the doors (the only ones in the school he didn't have to stoop down to get through) he spotted his truck at once, it was easily the tallest in the parking lot and possibly the brightest colored. He jogged over to the big red truck, pulled open the drivers side door and jumped inside in one fluid motion. Jamming the keys into the ignition he turned the switch and the machine roared to life, roar defiantly being the proper term there, then peeled out of the parking lot, he didn't have much time to get to where he needed to go. He cranked up the radio and wheeled into Maple Hollow like a bat out of hell, people walking along the sidewalks of the small little town gave him all sorts of dirty looks ad he rumbled past. You'd think they'd be used to him by now.. He pulled into the parking lot of this excellent little burger place right in the heart of down town. This was hands down his favorite place to eat. Quickly he shut off the truck, jumped out and ran inside. The girl behind the counter looked a little surprised as the hurried boy burst through the door and over to the counter. Andy put both hands down on the counter and heaved a heavy sigh to catch his breath. Alright, I need two number three's, and make the fries large, please. The girl simply smiled and nodded, she was used to him placing large orders by now and to the best of her knowledge all this food was for him. But no, one order for him and one for Sammy. That kid was the only person in school who could confidently call themselves Andrew's friend, and he was also the only person Andy would buy food for. But that was mostly because he knew that Sammy shared his love of food, and if the mess hall food was inedible for him, he knew it would be for Sammy too. He handed her his debit card then moved down to the end of the counter to wait for his food. As he looked around he noticed several faces that he recognized from school, he chuckled lightly to himself as he knew exactly why all of them were here. That disgusting food. When the girl handed him his food he was gone like a flash, back out the door, into his truck and up the road back to the school.
Just as he pulled into the parking lot and got out of the truck he heard the lunch bell ring, he couldn't have timed that any better if he had tried, and he just might get to see that funny face that Sammy would make when he realized his precious mess hall had gone to shit today. Making large strides he walked up the staircase that led to the double doors, clearing three steps at a time without even trying. When he made it to the mess hall the smell had gotten worse, he shook his head and food in hand pushed the doors open. Ducking slightly he walked into the room, not many people had made it in yet, most of them had probably gone back to their dorms first to get rid of their bags and books. He spotted Sammy almost at once, he had to hold back a laugh as he watched the fire boy pick and chose what he might try to eat, poor kid. He walked around to the edge of the room and waited for him to sit down at their usual spot. A table right int he middle of everything with the best view of the room. He glanced at the table in front of him, several freshies averted their eyes and a few even yelped a little as he walked by. His reputation as an ass preceded him most in this very room where all the elements gathered.
When a very bewildered looking Sammy finally sat down Andy walked up behind him. Smiling he held his hand over Sammy's head and used his power to create a little static electricity, making Sammy's hair stand on end. He laughed a little then sat lazily down next to his friend, the bags of food hidden behind his back. Hey shorty! Andy greeted him with a laugh, he did love to pick on Sammy for his height sometimes, or rather his lack there of. He leaned over his tray and took a sniff, the meat in the sandwich smelled absolutely rotten, and the chips looked stale. Mmmm Smells tasty! He laughed a little again, his tone dripping with sarcasm and pulled the bags of food out from behind his back, sitting one in front of himself and the other infront of Sammy. That better?

Samuel pouted miserably as he studied the sandwiches he’d picked him, his face an image of despair. He couldn’t remember breakfast being so bad, what had happened in between breakfast and lunch? How had things become so dismal? He wondered if one of the elementals had the power to play some kind of trick on him, to make him hallucinate in sight and scent that the food was hideous when in actual fact, it was amazing and smelt delicious. It would be a cruel trick and a fine way to get to him, a fine way to hurt him. Most people who knew him, love or hate, probably recognised that food was one of his weaknesses or addictions, depending on how they wanted to look at it. This kind of nightmare was so simple, so easy to come true, and yet the consequences that a bad lunch would have on his day would indeed be heinous. His stomach would probably suffer from not having been fed enough, and then he’d get all stroppy about the injustice of the food they were served, which would inevitably result in him not paying attention in class and probably missing something that would be on a test. Classes were hard enough for Samuel, not because he wasn’t smart but because a lot of his teachers disliked him personally. He actually was interested in learning and doing well, in fact he considered any grade below an A to be a failure but his reputation for being an asshole made things more difficult, made teachers less cooperative. All in all, Sammy could forsee it being a pretty bad day.
He slouched down in his chair, tearing at a beach of bread unenthusiastically when all of a sudden he felt a strange sensation in his hair, light tingles, as if a shiver had run across his head, as if his hair was floating. He creased his brow and turned around abruptly in his chair to see the cause of the commotion, but of course it was Andy. A grin spread across Sammy’s features, the sight of seeing his friend making him almost forget about the meal that was in front of him and his disdain at having to eat it. Samuel laughed a sarcastic laugh at Andrew’s nickname for him. Everyone teased him about his height, it was one of those things that only his friends could get away with otherwise he’d go into small dog syndrome and get all angry and yappy. ”Shut up, I’m tall! You’re just abnormal. I’m pretty sure you’re mom had sex with a giant, it’s probably why you’re so fucked up!” Sammy teased playfully. It was probably the type of insult that he’d use against one of the idiots who he chose to have as a punch bag, sometimes it amazed him how the same sentence could be used to two different people and mean two completely different things. One person might cry, but he was pretty sure Andy would just laugh or give him something equally as ridiculous back. It was the brilliance of friendship, having the ability to insult each other to shreds and knowing that whatever your friend said they thought you were amazing anyway, and they’d always have your back. Maybe it was a sentimental way to look at things but despite how Samuel may come across to people, he really valued his friends. He trusted them with everything, every thought and every feeling, even his insecurities if the conversation came up; his friends meant everything to him.
Samuel wrinkled his nose at Andy’s comment but his expression was lost almost as soon as it formed as the bag of food came out. It was like Christmas had come early. Sammy looked to Andy, to the bag, and back again, a large grin parting his lips as he almost jumped with joy. ”I could kiss you right now!” Sam exclaimed as he dropped his attention from the bag and turned to face Andy in slight disbelief. People rarely did stuff like this and it always amazed him when they did. Andy was definitely like the brother he never had. Nonetheless Sam acted upon his emotions, he reached out and wrapped his arms around the muscular man, nuzzling his head against his shoulder. ”Oh Giant Drew, if you wanted to get me into bed you could’ve just asked. Your gesture, it’s so big and sweet and… I’m yours forever!” he exclaimed dramatically, only after he’d practically crawled onto Andrew’s lap. Sammy took a few moments to calm his laughter before returning back to his own seat. Samuel didn’t bother looking around the hall to see if anybody had caught his display of affection, he had a habit of doing what he wanted to do without awaiting permission from anybody. He didn’t even look back at Andy as he started to tuck into his food energetically. Next to his sandwich it was the best thing he’d eaten in a long, long time. That better? |
