Sandra really liked ice cream. Some people didn't understand this for some reason, which was just bizarre because ice cream was the very best thing ever and everyone else was kidding themselves if they disagreed. Still, apparently it was kind of weird to want to eat ice cream in the middle of November, when it was all cold and chilly and what-not. Sandra figured, though, that hey, if people were willing to get dressed up and what-not and dress pretty openly and not very warmly at all for prom and the like in this month here at the Academy, then they could very well deal with eating a bit of ice cream. Not many people seemed to agree with this, considering how empty the ice cream parlour was today, when it was pretty close to freezing already, but damn it all if this was going to bother Sandra enough to make her leave this place without her ice cream. It was a sentiment that not many people really agreed with after August had come and gone and the weather started its annual cooling down, but she'd been determined to go out for some ice cream. Luckily, she'd found someone to drag along with her today.
This poor, unfortunate soul turned out to be Gale. He wasn't really very poor and unfortunate though, at least not to the best of her knowledge, because it wasn't like he literally was some person she'd just dragged along. Well... kind of. It was a Friday afternoon, and they'd planned earlier in the week to go out into town for ice cream today, so after their respective last classes they'd met up outside and taken the bus out here. Sandra took the bus home most days anyway, because Matt was generally too busy and she'd just feel awful making him drive her around twice every day. The upside of this was that she could hang out with friends and do whatever she wanted after school most days, though, so this was pretty much a done deal by her -- now that she actually took the bus daily rather than only on weekends, though, she was getting to know Maple Hollow's bus system pretty well. This particular bus route happened to also be the one that she took home, so she did know it pretty well -- she reached over and pushed the button to call for their stop when it came, and so it dropped them off right across the street from the ice cream parlour. "Let's go, let's go, let's go," she urged, grinning brightly as she dragged her best friend along. Sandra really, really liked ice cream.

Gale loved ice cream, like most people. Although in the middle of the winter, it was just a bit strange. Not that he objected at all, but it was awfully cold outside. Though he had made plans with Sandy earlier that week to go on Friday after classes. He just sort of hoped that it would be warmer. But that was too much to hope for, or so it did seem. Warm weather wouldn't come for a couple more months. It was merely the begining of the cold fall/winter weather, and he already missed the warmth. The cold was okay sometimes, but when all you wanted to do all the time was swim, it was more natural when the weather was warm. Though he did go swimming in the winter, and yes he usually went in the same lack of clothing that he did in the summer time, people didn't look at him as funny when he swam in the winter.
That was the thing about the water students he realized, though. Everything they did was a bit out of the ordinary. Though nobody was really "normal" anyways. He was happy to be going out for ice cream this day, especially with Sandy. She was his best friend, who he had begrudgingly managed to develop a crush on. It was almost childish, and he wouldn't - he couldn't - tell her. That wasn't something that best friends did. At least not par usual. They where sitting on the bus, and Gale was half dozing off. He had a problem staying awake in moving vehicles when he wasn't driving. At every stop it managed to jolt him awake, so when Sandy pressed the button to stop it, it wasn't any different.
"I'm coming, I'm coming, hoooold your horses." He said, laughing a little bit as they got off the bus. He grabbed her arm to tow her across the street, doing his best to, well, avoid getting hit by a car. He was good at judging those things, and they made it across without any fatalities. " We just had to pick the coldest day of the week to come here huh?" He said, rubbing his arms dramatically, before opening the door to the parlor and holding it open for her. He was wearing a thin, black Jacket, and a pair of dark blue jeans, held up by a ACU style belt. He wasn't particularly fancy when it came to his dressing style, but that was how he liked it. After she was inside, he walked up the counter, making sure she was with him. "What would you like? Get what ever, don't worry, I'm buying." He said, smiling at her. Being a gentleman was never a problem, right?

She let him go ahead and drag her along, considering all the times she'd done so before to him. Plus, if it meant they were getting to ice cream faster, hey, she didn't care who took the lead. "Eeeep," she squeaked anyway as she was pulled along across the street, trying her best to keep up. Gale was quite a bit taller than she was. That meant longer legs. Longer legs meant faster, and so she scurried along quickly, hoping they wouldn't be hit by a van or something. That would just be frightening. Luckily the street wasn't very busy. "Silly Gale," she teased, laughing as she watched him rubbing his arms. "It's not even that cold yet! Sheesh, it's like you've never even been here before." Maple Hollow, being in the mountains, tended to get quite a bit of snow and what-not in the winter -- winters were never pleasant around here. She kind of missed Vancouver during this season, because Vancouver was rarely this cold. She guessed that was the benefit of the nearby Pacific Ocean.
Sandra didn't object when he held open the door, though -- manners and courtesy were always nice to have in anyone. "Thanks, Gale," she said, giving him a wide grin and waiting for him to enter too. Inside the ice cream parlour they had to keep it relatively cool, for obvious reasons, but luckily for them it was cold enough outside that it still felt quite warm in here. Once Gale had followed her inside she made her way up to the counter. Ooh, ice cream. She had been here so many times before that she could have probably recited the flavours from memory, but she still went up to the glass to peer down and see what they were offering. Sometimes there were pretty different, interesting things here too, and she always liked those. Sandra was pretty much willing to try anything once. "Oh, thanks! But... you don't have to pay," she told him, once she heard him speak, turning away from the flavours for a moment to shake her head at him, though she was still smiling. "Don't worry!" She reached for her wallet, which had actually been tucked a side part of her backpack -- the Academy and the Hollow were pretty safe enough that she didn't mind keeping it there. She did have money, after all. Sandra wasn't always opposed to getting things, of course, but that was how it was. "Hm... I'll get the strawberry in a waffle cone, I think!" she told the employee behind the counter.

It may not have been super cold yet, but it was still cold. Sandy wasn't from around here, and he was pretty sure where she came from was warmer than here. He just didn't enjoy the cold. He was like a damn fish most of the time. The warmer the better. Though he didn't really like bugs, and God only knew that bugs where rampent when it got too warm. He hated it but, in all actuality, bugs where actually quite helpful. "Well, duh." He said with a small chuckle, shaking his head. He grew up here, so obviously he had been here before. "That doesn't mean it's not still cold. I'm just trying to prevent my limbs from falling off. You wouldn't want to be seen around me with if I was walking around with no arms, right?" He smiled a little bit, and quirked an eyebrow up at her. He really wouldn't want to be seen around himself without arms, or so he thought. That might be a bit creepy.
Gale always wanted to be a gentlemen. Sure, he was a joker, and liked to pull pranks and people, and didn't take a whole lot of things seriously, but being as gentlemenlike as possible was one thing he did take seriously. At least to the ladies, anyways. Despite his nature, he was actually pretty flirtatious. Especially when in the presence of a beautiful woman. "Your welcome, M'Lady." He said, lightly bowing before closing the door behind him. He walked up to the counter a little bit, and sighed and shook his head. "I know I don't have to pay. I want to pay. Am I not aloud to buy ice cream for my best friend?" A small smile twitched up at the corners of his lips. He frowned as she took out her wallet and placed his hand over hers and shook her head. "Sandra Chang. Put that away." He stared at her for a moment, trying to look serious, before pulling his own wallet out. "And I'll get ... vanilla, in a waffle cone too, please." He said politely, before handing them the money. The person behind the counter put the money in the register, and handed him his change before going to get their ice cream. "Now no complaining." He said, grabbing the ice cream off the counter and going and sitting at a table, setting Sandy's opposite from him, and smiling at her.

She'd been kidding earlier, obviously, so his response didn't bother her at all. "Not that cold," she repeated, though in truth it was pretty chilly, actually. She was wearing a hoodie under a light jacket, though, and that was probably warmer than what Gale had on. "Your limbs are not going to fall off, silly boy." Sandra giggled at the idea of walking around with an armless Gale, though, but hey, that was totally untrue. There were people who lived relatively normal lives without some of their limbs, and a great deal had to get along pretty well all things considered. She and Gale were best friends, and that would be unlikely to change just because of some potential loss of limbs. "I just want you to know that, even if you had no limbs left, I would still love you, because that's just the type of person I am." She tried to look serious, but it was wrecked completely by her grin. This was obviously all a joke, but it... was also pretty much true. That kind of thing was a really stupid reason to abandon a friend. She might, however, be extremely alarmed if his limbs just randomly started popping off. "Seriously, though, don't let that happen please. Are you sure you can handle ice cream today?" she teased.
Of course he was allowed -- there was no reason people wouldn't be allowed to buy ice cream or anything, actually, for their best friends. Still, she gave him a pretty stern look when he told her to put her wallet away. "Gale Harrison," she said, folding her arms over her chest, not putting the wallet away still. The employee seemed to side on her friend's side, though, and so after Gale had paid she had no real choice but to put the wallet away. Well, that was okay she supposed. She wasn't really that hardcore about it or anything -- she mostly operated on a very "go with the flow" type of basis. "You win this time, guy," she said, narrowing her eyes at him but in a pretty much entirely non-serious way. Then she laughed, thanked the worker behind the counter, and waved a little bit (even though it wasn't like she was leaving the store or anything) before heading over to the table he'd selected. "Fine, fine." She settled down and followed him, shaking her jacket off (it wasn't warm inside necessarily, but definitely too warm inside for that) before picking up her cone. "Though thanks, for real," she said, grinning at him and then licking at the ice cream. "Ice cream is the best."

The thought of his limbs falling off was silly, but hey, he was always joking about something. Even if it was something that was never going to happen. At least not unless he got in some serious accident, and crushed all of his bones, or something like that. He was pretty sure that wouldn't happen though. At least, hoping it wasn't going to happen. "Hey, you can't promise that. What if I get frost bite? Huh? " He raised his eyebrow dramatically and looked at her for a moment, trying to keep the look on his face serious. Alas, that never worked for him. Ever. His serious face broke into a wide grin and he shook his head. "Your too sweet." He said smiling at her. "And I too, would still love you, if your limbs fell off." He said in consolation. He wasn't planning on either of them losing limbs, but who knew what could happen. This was a crazy world. "I can handle anything, hon. I promise." He said, smirking at her. He was a bit of a flirt, but the comment wasn't made to sound flirtatious, although after saying it, it seemed to sound that way.
He waved a finger at her as she said his name, and smirked. "Don't say my name in that derogatory manner. Makes it sound like I'm doing something wrong." He said, sticking out his bottom lip for a moment like he was pouting. The cashier though was on his side. He must have understood the importance for him to buy the ice cream. There really wasn't any, but Gale always had to win. Always. It was like in the unwritten handbook for male - female friendships. "Sandy.. Sandy..." He said, glancing down and shaking his head, while patting her on the back, and drapping his arm around her shoulders for a moment. " You should know by now. I always win." His smile brightened a little as he looked at her for a moment, before dropping his arm and picking up his ice cream as they made their way towards the table. He sat down across from her, and he too, took his jacket off. "You are quite welcome." He said, smiling at her. "It's what friends are for, right?" He smiled, before taking a bite of his ice cream. Vanilla definitely was his favorite. "So, " He said, between bites. The food was cold, so it wasn't like he could just monster it down. He wanted to be fairly neat, anyways, though Sandy knew the real him when he was eating, so it didn't really matter. "What's your plans for the remainder of the day?" He raised an eyebrow at her, watching as steam came from his mouth as he talked.

Pfft, Sandra was not about to go and let herself be guilted just in case Gale did get frostbite or something. "Then next time wear a better jacket!" she said, sticking her tongue out at him. It definitely wouldn't be her fault, she didn't think at least. It was his fault! He hadn't bundled up properly! She had to buy the boy a winter coat or something... even though at this point, it wasn't even that cold, at least not cold enough for a ski jacket or something, probably. "Seriously Gale, it might be time to invest in winter clothing..." She laughed at his next words, though. "Hey, what else are friends for?" She didn't really know what would cause either of them to lose any limbs, but it had obviously happened to people before. Hopefully it wouldn't, though. She couldn't imagine amputations were easy or fun... as for limbs actually falling off in the literal sense (she imagined them just dislocating and then separating from the body spontaneously, which was a very weird mental image) she was pretty sure that wouldn't happen. "Good!" She was unaware of any flirtatious context in what he'd said.
It wasn't like Gale had really done anything wrong, necessarily, but that wasn't about to stop Sandra from messing around with him. "Because you totally are," she retorted stubbornly, but she'd long given on even trying to be serious at this point, and after all she'd already put away her wallet. It wasn't all that serious, she thought -- she was pretty easygoing and all this effort she was expending was really in good fun. She didn't mind buying for her friends or having her friends pay for her, either way, truth be told. "And that's true, you do always win," she said, but then didn't hesitate in adding, "except when you don't. Which is when I do." She did her best attempt at a maniacal laugh, but it was riddled with actual giggles and it didn't work very well at all. Being busy with her ice cream -- friends, even best friends, were awesome, but not edible -- she didn't do anything but nod at what he said, and then she took a few minutes before answering, taking a bite out of her cone first. "Mm, not much! Probably just going home, I guess, dinner and stuff." For the most part she and Matthew had dinner together, but both of them also went out with friends on the off times. It was nice not having to run plans and such by her parents. "What about you?" She cocked her head to the side.
