- Meeting Deadlines — In part due to his insomnia, he has no problem getting things done on time.
- Objectivity — After his initial outbursts, he’s able to look at things from the perspectives of others. If he were a teacher, he would be the sort who doesn't play favorites.
- Musicality — He plays the violin, cello, and piano, and tends to be a fairly good singer.
- Ambidextrous — He’s able to use both hands equally well, including through writing and other tool usage.
WEAKNESSES
- Rod Monochromacy — He can’t see in color. At all. He only sees in shades of gray.

- Large groups — They make him nervous, and he tends to fidget and freeze up when around them when they aren't making him furious.

- Doctors and hospitals
BEST MEMORY
Getting engaged. Just knowing that Aurora would have him made him the happiest man he thought he could be.
WORST MEMORY
Losing his Aurora. He refuses to stop wearing their wedding rings, though it’s been two years. He wears them on a gold chain around his neck.
LONG-TERM GOAL
Not lose his job. He likes working at the academy.

HISTORY
BIRTH—
Fabian was born to a middle-class family already possessing another boy. His childhood was simple, dealing with the teasing relationship with his brother, a mother who seemed to talk faster than her element would ever rush, and a father who spent more time staring up at the night sky than playing sports with his children. So, said children were left mostly to their own resources. The family found out early on that he was color blind. He was completely unable to tell the difference between colored blocks in kindergarten and they soon stopped asking. On top of that, he got sick easily, frequently of colds and the flu. The one time he had pink eye, he was terrified of going completely blind, spurring his remaining fear in combination with his nearsightedness. His eyesight was terrible from a young age. His parents were never able to tell whether he liked books because he didn’t like people, or that he didn’t like people because he liked books too much.
FOURTEEN—
He showed his abilities by lighting all the candles on his father’s birthday cake without touching them. Again. And again. At first, they thought they’d accidentally bought the trick candles, but eventually they figured out it was their son, drawing on their own experience with elementals. He started at the academy the following January, where he thrived. He made friends, when he wasn’t blowing up in their faces over the little details. He was happy, learning to control his element, even though he happened to avoid the other elementals as much as he had other children earlier in his life. It was more that he was happy hiding out with his school work, alone, than with friend he didn't really make.
SIXTEEN—
Driver’s ed was particularly terrible for him, mostly because he couldn’t tell the color difference in the lights. But something pulled the year from being a complete disaster. Aurora tolerated his temper, mostly because hers was just as bad, despite her being a thunder elemental. When they weren’t blowing up at each other, they were the best of friends. They dated his last two years of high school, and when he continued on into college. She opted out of it, working small jobs to earn money to help him pay for it, though he worked as well because he didn’t want all the burden to be on her. They moved in together his second year of college, struggling at first, but they continued on, fighting for their happiness.
TWENTY-ONE—
He proposed to her on the day of graduation from his English program. She accepted, and they got married two months later on December 31st. Finding a program in a university halfway across the country, they moved so he could attend it for his Master’s degree in library science. She didn’t mind moving, though the actual process was stressful to incite a handful of fights. Like the first bit of schooling, however, they made it through.
TWENTY-SIX—
He finished his degree and started working at the local library, supporting his wife’s artistic habits most gladly and attempting to take more of the financial burden off her shoulders. He was just so head-over-heels in love with her. They were happy, in their little one-bedroom apartment just above the subway. They lived there for years, trying for a child, but not succeeding. It was okay with him, though, because they were happy. And they could always adopt if they had to.
THIRTY—
It happened roughly two months before his 31st birthday. Aurora Xylander died on the first day of summer, June 21st, during a supposedly routine surgery that somehow went awry, though no one was able to properly explain to him what went wrong. Or maybe he wasn’t listening. She bled out on the table, despite numerous attempts by the doctors to save her. Ever since, he can’t deal with hospitals—he's just too terrified to go even when he's hurt. When he received her possessions before the cremation, he bought a chain to place her wedding ring on. When, over a year later, he finally managed to remove his own, he also strung it on the chain. He still wears that chain. Because he couldn’t remain near the site of her death thereafter, he started searching for a new job to move away, but he couldn’t not be around books.
He spent a year and a half searching for a new job following her death. He just needed to get away. He worked brief periods in various places, but he couldn’t be happy anywhere in particular. Hearing there was an opening back home, he applied to work at the Academy, missing the school and its environment, as well as the small town in which it existed. He got the job, and started working at the academy library, which he rarely leaves as a preventative measure for getting lost.
