A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
It had been a long morning. Normally when the sun rose Asher found himself dozing in his bed, head pulled under the covers in attempts to drown out the sunlight and prolong his sleep. However that dreadful morning he awoke abruptly to his cell phone screaming at him on the night stand. "Nhh..." He grunted loudly as he propelled his hand out from under the blanket and grabbed the phone lazily, sticking it back under the covers. Gregory, the owner of the auto shop, requested his help that morning. More cars than anticipated showed up for their oil changes, tire rotations, and brake replacements--apparently it was their time of the year, or month, or whatever the hell it was because the line was long enough to make Greg upset. As quick as he could Asher made his way to the auto shop, grateful that his mother was at work and his brother still sleeping. The shop was bustling with life, and the two mechanics slaved away on the cars. Finally, nearing lunch time, the rush was over and Asher found himself slumped against one of the nearest work benches. Greg wiped his brow.
"I'm gonna go nap in the staff room, Ash," Gregory grunted wearily as he waddled his way into the staff room, shutting the door without waiting for Asher to even respond. The boy ran a hand through his hair and exhaled slowly, a few beads of sweat running down the side of his face. If only we weren't working...I'd just take off my shirt. Of course Greg would have been upset if Asher stripped himself of his clothing and walked around topless; the last time he did, it did not end well. As his eyes scanned the garage lazily, his thoughts drifted towards Morgan. It had been at least three weeks since their encounter at the library, and things were steadily improving as the days wore on. Morgan was slowly but surely loosening up around Asher, which made him incredibly happy and he was not quite sure as to why. To see the girl smile, and talk to him without a strand of hostility was one of the best feelings in the world. Asher pushed and pushed, and although it was a bit painful at first it was worth it all in the end. Smiling to himself, Asher pulled out his phone and took a moment to text her. "Hey, chilling out at the auto shop...feel free to come and join me for a bit if you want."
As soon as Asher sent the text, he heard a car pulling up into the parking lot. His eyes tore from the cell phone and towards an upcoming customer, looking eager to get his stuff done and get out. Smiling, the boy stood up and adjusted his shirt before approaching the customer. "Hey, what can I do for you?" A blonde girl stood before him, chewing her gum and looking distracted as she looked him up and down, phone in hand. "Yeah, I need to get an oil change and my tires rotated. And if you could top off my other fluids I'd appreciate it." The girl passed him a wink, to which he smirked and nodded. "Right. Bring it on in here and I'll do it for you." The girl turned and got into the car, driving it into the garage. When she got out, Asher directed her to the waiting room before setting to work. He sure hoped that Morgan would come around and keep him company while he worked, and maybe get something to eat for dinner. Asher had avoided eating most of the day because he and Greg wanted to get their work done, and by the time he realized how hungry he was this girl pulled in with more work. As he began to hit the switch to the hydraulic lift, Asher began to hum to himself.

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
Her feet were propped up against the wall as Morgan lounged in her chair. She had something between a bored and annoyed expression on as she threw a wall continually against the ceiling. The ball plopped into her fingers. She raised her hand to throw it again as her phone vibrated in her pocket. A second later, the ringtone came in accompaniment. “Everybody Loves Me” started humming out and Morgan smirked. It was her special ringtone, the one that only rang when Asher was trying to get a hold of her. She set it as kind of a joke. As much as he was always protesting that he was “genuine”, on the outside he was a total stereotypical pretty boy. Thus the ringtone. She imagined it would annoy him endlessly if he heard it, but hadn’t had an excuse to slip this little fact into conversation as of yet. She flipped open the phone, scanning the words. She grinned and hopped up, tossing the ball over her shoulder. She had taken the habit in the past weeks of dressing more carefully. She insisted it was because she was integrating into society, but she knew it was because of all the time she spent with Asher. She liked to look nice, was that a crime?
She had grabbed her keys and was out the door in a moment, a quick text shot off as she walked. “We need to find you more friends. I’m tired of all your dude shit.” She smirked and pressed send. She knew Asher could read her sarcasm. If she didn’t want to come, she wouldn’t. She just liked giving him a hard time. It was a sign of affection of sorts. She made her way to the auto shop, grumbling under her breath as she rode the bus and walked through town. Asher couldn’t have been any farther away if he had tried. Perhaps Morgan could count this as her exercise for the day. The familiar bangs and clangs of the auto shop could be heard from a five minute’s walk. Morgan rolled her eyes, sticking on her familiarly disgruntled face. A plastic bag swung from her fingers, her other hand stuck in her pocket. She let her mind wander as she walked, though her thoughts mostly focused on Asher. They had spent more and more time together over the past weeks. Since that day in the library, conversation had been superficial. What did he like to eat? How old was he? That kind of stuff.
A bell dinged as Morgan pushed open the door of the Auto Shop. She caught a glimpse of Greg tramping up the stairs towards his office. She didn’t bother to wave. They had become familiar with each other, mostly because Morgan kept Asher company on more than one occasion. But neither really had an interest in the other. Morgan scanned the shop, her gaze eventually landing on Asher. He was just taking a care from a pretty blonde. Morgan walked up just in time to see the blonde shoot Asher a wink before wandering towards the waiting room. Morgan shot the girl a poisonous glare as a surge of something – envy?? – passed. Morgan reassured herself that it wasn’t the girl’s behavior towards Asher, but rather the mannerisms of the girl that bugged her. Not very convincing. Morgan ran a hand through her hair as she approached Asher. “Hey Grease Monkey!” She had to raise her voice to be heard over the noise. She had a variety of names for Asher, none of them his birth given name. She thwacked him amiably with the plastic bag as she passed. Morgan circled around, perching on a table across from Asher. She held up the bag. A crumpled logo was barely visible. “I’m fattening you up to sell on the black market.” She grinned, gesturing towards the bag. The warm smell of meat and cheese wafted out of the bag. She had taken the courtesy of stopping by the sub shop on the way to the Auto Shop. She knew they were Asher’s favorite, mostly because he ate constantly. He was in that whole teenage guy phase where they ate like nobody’s business and still managed to remain annoyingly fit. She tossed the bag to Asher, swinging her legs.

Asher was simple. He never asked for much out of his friends and family aside from basic instinctual loyalty and a conversation every now and again. He did not seek out excessive amounts of attention, nor did he crave it; Asher was a social person, but fared well by himself if a moment of solitude arose. Today, he simply desired the presence of a friend and nothing more. Fortunately for him Morgan sent a text back, eliciting a smile from the boy. From the window of the waiting room the girl behind the window glanced at him and frowned, possibly thinking he was not single. It was probably for the best anyway. Biting his lip, Asher sent her a text back: "Aww you know you love it. Besides, you're the only one that can put up with me. Maybe we can go friend shopping later though." Clicking send, he shoved the phone back into his pocket and set to working again, the noise of the hydraulic lift loud and obnoxious as it always was. Off in his little world, Asher nearly jumped at the sound of someone's voice over the noise, and turned to see Morgan, bag in hand. Asher grinned and shut off the lift.
"Hey beautiful," He complemented sweetly as he had done a few times before; once Asher was certain they were friends and she was not going to lob his head off every time he said something, the boy grew more comfortable being who he was. He was naturally flirtatious and complementary to the women, but more so towards Morgan because she was actually a friend. Strangers received smiles and faint winks and a few comments on their clothes, but so far Morgan was the only girl he managed to call beautiful and mean it. She was a beautiful girl. As Asher prepared to change the oil in the car, he glanced over to see Morgan dangling the bag in her hand as she sat at the nearby table. Instantly his mouth began to water, the smell of the sandwich wafting over his senses. "What? You don't want to keep me? That hurts." He feigned heartache by pressing his hand over his chest, smirking all the while before catching the bag of food and opening the top. His stomach growled. "You are way too good to me. I think that chick can wait for her oil change while I eat. Haven't eaten a damn thing all day."
Resting a hand on his stomach, Asher set the bag on the table and popped his head into the waiting room to talk to the girl. She smiled a bit--a flirtatious smirk, if you will--as she spoke, her finger twining around her hair. Finally the girl nodded and he shut the door, Asher shaking his head once he was a fair distance away from her. "She had the worst timing," Asher commented with a sigh before he plopped down on the other side of the table and pulled out the sandwich, gazing at it with childlike anticipation. Never had anyone gone out of their way to think about him or remember the small things (like his favorite food) except for his family, and he was still adjusting to these little additions to his life. Morgan was not necessarily a small addition--it took quite a bit of work to get to this point--but the gestures she offered were new and took getting used to. Hesitating for a moment as he glanced at Morgan, Asher took a bite and savored it before swallowing. "Thanks for coming to keep me company," He said gratefully, his eyes soft and glowing as he looked up at her from his sandwich. "I know it's not the most ideal place to chill out but...I'll be done with work in a couple of hours."

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
Morgan wasn’t particularly nice to Asher. Then again, she’d been really good lately about not throwing things at him. Truthfully, Morgan was making an effort – a gargantuan effort. She had made a decision, a conscious decision, and that decision had been Asher. But she still warred with herself constantly. Everything about her time with him was too unusual, too far from the life Morgan had learned to live. It unsettled her, but she craved it. She felt like, to quote Twilight in a most annoying manner, he was her own brand of heroine. She knew what she was doing was wrong – at least by what she knew – but she couldn’t stop herself, or wouldn’t. But there was always that hint of guilt behind her smile. She pushed these thoughts away as she perched in his Auto Shop. Her legs swung from the short table. It was amusing, how short she was especially in comparison to Asher. Someone had made the mistake of calling her “fun sized” one time. She had shown them there was certainly nothing fun about her at all. Morgan smirked at the memory. As close as the two had become, Asher was still cautious – much to Morgan’s appreciation.
She tucked his words away safe in her memory. She called him Grease Monkey, he called her beautiful. That was how their relationship seemed to go, teasing and light. She felt a twinge, however, at the name. Beautiful. That had been a rare word, a word sometimes used by her parents with trembling half-smiles, and by Sebastian with a bashful grin. But it was a joke. Everything between them was a joke. He didn’t mean that. Beautiful. He didn’t mean it. Morgan glanced away as Asher excused himself, popping into the waiting room. Morgan watched with a frown as the blonde giggled and winked, making a general fool of herself. But Asher being Asher, of course grinned and chuckled. Morgan smiled a slow smile, just waiting for Asher’s back to turn. The blonde’s wandering gaze landed on Morgan and Morgan – to her nature – flipped the girl off. This was rewarded with a sort of spluttering looking face, truly quite unattractive. Morgan only grinned in reply. Asher was facing her now. Morgan waggled her fingers at the girl, feeling quite triumphant despite having doubtlessly made a new enemy. “You have the worst taste in women.” Morgan snorted, amused with herself.
Asher was making some apology, something about being done working in a few hours. Morgan waved a hand. She didn’t really mind, it wasn’t like she had been doing anything particularly engaging or exciting. He was looking at her with those soft puppy eyes again, savoring his stupid sandwich. “If you’re going to tear up every time I bring you food, it’s never happening again.” Morgan had been watching the waiting room through her peripheral vision. The blonde, now thoroughly disgruntled, had risen from her seat and was walking across the shop towards the two of them. Morgan raised a brow, watching with amusement. She waited for the blonde to get just within hearing distance before commenting to Asher. “Haughty blonde who thinks she matters in the world at twelve o’ clock.” This only enraged the blonde further. Her carefully manicured fingers had curled into fists. Her bouncy hair flounced as she approached, her furious gaze glued to Morgan. “Excuse me, but I expected some semblance of professionalism from this place!” She turned her angry eyes on Asher, folding her hands across her chest. “I don’t work here, no need for professionalism. Convenient isn’t it?” Morgan was smirking, enjoying herself. She needed some way to pass the hours didn’t she?

A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
"I don't think my taste is that bad," Asher replied, oblivious to Morgan's antics with the blonde girl sitting in the waiting room. Had he caught it, he might have stopped Morgan from acting out. Instead his smile was faultless and bright as he fiddled with the sandwich between his fingers. "That's heavily insulting yourself you know." Although it was teasing, and Asher knew that Morgan was teasing, there was truth behind his words. He never really had a 'type' as most men did, and preferred whatever he preferred. Hair color, height, eye color, all of the physical attributes were of no importance to him. If a girl was pretty she was pretty. Their personalities altered their appearance to an extent, but Morgan was the exception. He knew she was not a cold hearted bitch, so she was held in a completely different light.
Just as he was about to take another savory bite of his sandwich, the sound of footsteps and Morgan's voice sounded in his ears. If sparks were as visible as they were in the cartoons when two enemies glared at one another, then Asher would have been caught in the crossfire. He passed Morgan a disapproving frown before turning back to the blonde, standing up to full height. "You'll have to excuse my friend. She's just having an off day." The girl snorted loudly as she stepped up towards the table, but was stopped midway by Asher. The boy rarely ever frowned, glared, or otherwise revealed any seriously negative emotion, but it was extremely evident today. "Friend!?" The blonde shrieked, her eyes ablaze with fury. "Jealous bitch of a girlfriend if you ask me." Asher refrained from clenching his fists and retaliating right off the bat for fear of causing a huge argument. If Greg caught wind of the discussion Asher would surely be reprimanded. Instead he shook his head and glanced back at Morgan, still looking flustered before holding his gaze with the blonde again. "I highly suggest you find another mechanic for the day. There's one down the road that's about twenty bucks cheaper for the services you need."
Instead of backing down like she should have, the blonde was persistent. Lips pursed, she passed a venomous glare at Morgan before looking back up at Asher. "I'm already here. Now cut your lunch break short and get this done so I can leave." With that, she turned heel, flipped her hair and stormed back into the waiting room. Asher knew that customer service came first and refused to lose his job over this petty fight, so without even passing a glance at Morgan he went to work on changing the oil. He was still hungry, but the sooner he got this done, the faster he could get the girl out of the shop and he could go home. She has a lot to learn about socializing with other females, I think... He was oblivious to why Morgan responded the way she did, but did not need an excuse. He sighed and started to drain the oil before leaning against the wheel of the car and looking Morgan with a steady but considerably soft gaze. "You realize I could lose my job because of that right?" He sighed, trying to remember that she was still new to socializing. "What did she do to upset you so much?"

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
Morgan watched the huffy blonde with satisfaction, pantomiming her actions behind her back as she cried out shrilly at Asher. It was beyond amusing, from Morgan’s point of view. She raised a brow at being labeled the “jealous bitch of a girlfriend”. Bits and pieces of that statement were incredibly accurate, taken out of context of sorts. Was Morgan a bitch? Most definitely, though it was really a safety mechanism – if one were going to psychoanalyze Morgan, which was both difficult and highly advised against. Jealous, well that was certainly true as well, but not the kind of jealousy as was implied. The huffy blonde was implying some sort of possessive or sexual jealousy, neither of which (as Morgan tried to convince herself) she had towards Asher. That whole point was slightly up for debate. Morgan was, however, jealous of the huffy blonde – if only of the relative normalcy of her life. And finally – girlfriend. Now, taken literally it too was true. Morgan was a female friend of Asher’s – a girl friend. But she wasn’t in any sort of romantic relationship with him, which meant there were no titles. So all in all – the huffy blonde was both incredibly insightful, and amusingly dim-witted.
All of these thoughts were circulating through Morgan’s head as Asher settled matters with the huffy blonde. Morgan refocused just in time to see Huffy (as she was now dubbed) click away on her heels, nose turned up snobbishly. Asher had set down his sandwich, which was sure to get cold if not eaten relatively soon. He had returned to the car, wearing an expression annoyingly familiar to Morgan. It was his disappointed look. It was like he didn’t quite have the balls to be really mad at her, but at the same time she had made him so…sad. She abhorred the look, especially because it was usually followed by some comment that made her feel all twisty inside. Most people who tried to guilt trip her, or even looked at her with disappointment, were so inconsequential that their disappointment meant nothing. But Asher, well he got to her. Morgan scuffed a shoe against the ground, not looking up at Asher. She frowned, her hair falling around her face as she muttered something under her breath about Huffy needing a reality check. “Come on Asher, don’t give me the disappointed parent routine again. You know this is just…well fuck this is just what I do.” She frowned at him.
What exactly was so hard to understand? Asher had witnessed it all first hand. He was the only one she was even remotely nice to. It was a special treat really. The rest of the people, well they got the regular Morgan – no catch of the day for them. “What the hell do you want me to say anyways?” She scrunched up her eyebrows, clearly frustrated but mostly attempting to justify herself. Her voice rose a few octaves as she did a valley girl impression. “O my god, no way! You must be Huffy! I’m Suzy B Daisy and we should be best friends! Isn’t he just delicious? Yeah you should totally just sit there and bat your eyelashes, maybe he’ll like marry you!” Her face pulled down in disgust. Morgan glanced over her shoulder at Huffy, who had returned to the waiting room but was glaring daggers at Morgan. She resisted the urge to waggle her fingers, but only because Asher seemed so serious. Morgan hopped back up on her table perch, bringing her knees to her chin. “I feel like we’ve been through all this already. I drive people away. I thrive on chaos – etcetera. If you’re going to get all pissed at me, you should stop inviting me to go places with you.” Morgan was becoming petulant now, knowing that her defense was both weak and childish.

A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
It didn't take long for Asher to get the oil changed, but there was still the issue of rotating her tires and topping off the other fluids. For the first time in what seemed like forever, he did not want to be at work. It was not necessarily Morgan's fault--more that he was distracted and knew that being distracted would not do well when working on a car. All it took was one slip up and Greg would likely ban him from working for a week, maybe more. That simply would not do. Seems Morgan has been distracting me quite a bit lately... The more he thought about it, the more Asher realized how often he talked to the girl. They texted frequently, spent quite a bit of time together, and although she was still coping with other people she was at least kind to him now. It took a lot of patience and physical pain, but Asher was surprised to find that it was worth it. He cherished her presence, probably more so than he probably should have. He grabbed the new filter and replaced the old one, putting the cap back on the oil container and turning to face her again. She looked like a scolded child, but what could be done? It was a place of business and to treat the customers like that was sure to be looked down upon. Asher was lucky Greg was off taking his nap. "I know it is, but it's all in the timing. At least wait until I'm not working? Like when we're just wandering the Hollow or something..."
It was not his job to change Morgan. In fact, it was the last thing he wanted to do. Asher accepted people for who they were, no matter how aggressive they might be to others. If she wanted to continue keeping an arm's length between herself and the rest of the world, then so be it. He knew what her motives were; Morgan was not doing it to be a bitch, as much as she would like to think so. It was self preservation. A defense mechanism. Asher felt good knowing that he was one of the few people she was willing to pull in past all of that and make friends. In all truth it warmed his heart. He was not quite sure if Morgan realized how much this went against who he was. Asher never pushed so hard for a friendship before; convenience kept him from dealing with the bull shit and prevented unnecessary drama. However with this girl something was different. He was not willing to simply drop it and not find out. A flash of amusement crossed his features as he watched her, a smile tugging at his lips. He refrained from laughing though. "While that was really entertaining, I would have been concerned if you acted like that." He turned back to the car and began to work on removing the tires. "Besides, I'm not interested. I don't like the overly obvious girls that think twirling their hair will get my attention. I want something a little more...real." Asher was not quite sure why Morgan would be so bothered by 'Huffy' and her flirting attempts, but he did not feel like pushing the envelope just yet. He was not easy; if someone got too close, he pushed away. If they tried to get him in bed, he disappeared. Asher disliked casual sex and wanted to find a relationship where that was not the base component.
Front tires settled on the ground, Asher moved towards the back and began to remove them. From where he stood he caught a glimpse of the girl in the waiting room, who continued to glare in their general direction. He sighed; although he was appreciative of Morgan and what she was attempting to do, it was simply the wrong place and the wrong time. As he finished the first back tire, Asher caught Morgan speaking again. He set down the wrench and walked back over to her, leaning his hands on the edge of the table and leaning in towards her face. His nose was just far enough away to keep from getting bitten, but close enough to get a good look at her face. His smile was soft and understanding as he shook his head. "I'm not pissed off at you. I'm not really sure that's even possible." After all they had been through, if Asher were to get upset over this incident then something would surely be wrong with him. Hesitantly the boy reached out and moved a strand of hair from her face, tucking it gently behind her ear. "And I'm not gonna stop inviting you places. I was...actually wondering if you would let me invite you to my house after work. My mom was kinda wanting to meet you. She's a good cook too." He gave her a nervous smile, before pulling back a little bit, hands still on the table. Behind him, 'Huffy' looked up to see Asher's actions towards Morgan and sighed, dropping her gaze and resting her chin in her palm with defeat. Morgan had Asher's complete and total attention.
Without waiting for an official reply, Asher patted her knee affectionately before finishing his work on the tires. It did not take too terribly long, and soon he was able to lower the hydraulic lift. All that was left was topping off those fluids, and the girl would be gone. Greg wouldn't mind closing up the shop early, or at least closing it until he finished with his nap. Asher's focus was drifting elsewhere and the work was not going to get done now anyway. He wondered what Molly was making for dinner, and hoped that Adam would behave himself. With all of the teasing his little brother had been doing about Morgan being his girlfriend, Asher wondered if he could censor himself for the duration of Morgan's visit. Assuming...she decided to accompany him.

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
God, Asher was such a pansy sometimes. Well, at least in Morgan’s view. It wasn’t even that he was a pansy exactly, it was that he was so freaking calm about everything. He never got mad, or frustrated. He always had that infuriating smile. He had every right to be pissed at Morgan. She was here, in his workplace, screwing with his customers. Any normal friendship had boundaries. Hell, Morgan had boundaries galore. Scratch that, Morgan had one single boundary – more like a rule. She asked questions. She didn’t answer those posed to her. Ask at your own risk. Any normal guy would have put up some base rules – such as “No attacking my customers”. But Asher just smiled, shrugged, or occasionally (as he was now) got that tired little disappointed look. He was so much like Baz. Maybe that was why Morgan kept answering his texts, sitting on his tables, bringing him food. He was the next best thing to having Baz back, almost like a replacement – a brand new Baz. It was twisted and dark and creepy, but that was so very Morgan. She twirled a strand of hair around her finger, still frowning petulantly at Asher. “I’m not a freaking light switch. You can’t just turn me on and off. No mute button.” Morgan muttered something under her breath in an irritable voice, words to the effect of “stupid wonderbread cow”. She picked up a stray part, turning it over in her hands. Honestly, it was kind of true. She was chill with Asher, but he was an exception. Besides him, everyone got the same equal treatment – bitch. In the past four years, it was as if Morgan had forgotten how to read the social signals, how to interact with her peers. She generally ignored this fact. It only made her feel more like a basket case.
Morgan flashed him a glare, seeing the smile tugging at his lips. Of course he would have enjoyed that. He was a male – full of testosterone. It made her think of something her mother told her, when she turned thirteen. Her mother had had this whole panic attack and forced Morgan to sit down and have a talk about “becoming a woman”. Morgan scowled at the memory. It had been a time when Morgan’s mother had still hoped her children wouldn’t be “developmentally disabled”. But she had given Morgan a few good pieces of advice. One of this had been this – men are always and will always think about their dicks. It was a good rule of thumb really, and quite logical. It was tested and proven. A girl went up to a guy, nice as can be for the simple desire of a new friend and what would the guy think? Wow, she’s really into me. She must want me. And yet the negative was also true! Morgan had bitched out enough guys, only to have them proceed to ask her out as if nothing had happened. She’s bitching at me because of how badly she wants me. It was truly ridiculous, the whole male specimen was. Not that Morgan didn’t have her own sexual cravings here and there, she simply didn’t act on them (and had no one to act on them with). “You sound like a chick describing a fairytale wedding.” Morgan rolled her eyes, though a small smile played on her own lips. “Please don’t tell me you like long walks on the beach.” This was hypocritical, but Asher wouldn’t know any better. Despite always having been sarcastic and cynical, Morgan had been a hopeless romantic since she was a little girl. She had always dreamed of a white dress wedding, occasionally accompanied by twirling ballroom dancing. But Asher really needn’t concern himself with that.
The moment the word “house” left Asher’s lips, Morgan tensed. Her fingers wrapped around the table she was perched on, her knuckles turning white. She had been mixed between lost in thought and absentmindedly commenting on Asher’s words – but these had caught her attention and held it. She hadn’t been to a house in…shit four years. She wasn’t even a fucking Canadian. Technically, she was an American citizen – shipped across the border. To make matters worse, Asher was inches from her. His palms rested on the table, his entire body leaning over hers. Morgan was frozen. He smelled like smoke and mechanics. His shirt was stained and rumpled. His hair was tussled, and he had a soft little grin. She watched frozen as he lifted his hand, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. His finger stroked her cheek. Her jaw clenched. If he moved any closer, she would have beads of sweat rolling down her face. She finally unwrapped her fingers from their place on the table, moving her shaking hands up and placing them on his shoulders. They paused for a moment, feeling the warmth and sturdiness of his chest. Then, with determination, Morgan shoved him away in what she hoped was her normal fashion. She didn’t want him to see just how much his nearness distressed her. She could still smell him on her, still feel his fingers. She swallowed, attempting to appear…normal? “I have my own house you know. I don’t need a surrogate family. And why does your mom want to meet me?” Though Morgan had told him about Sebastian – or at least what she had done to Sebastian – the subject had not been enlightened on further. As far as Asher knew, Morgan had a family to return to – a house and parents and all that fun stuff. For some reason, Morgan had been reluctant to let him think otherwise. She was never sure how much he could take. What would be the final story, the final piece of herself, that would push him over the edge and away from her? As much as she griped and groaned, she had come to develop a certain affection for Asher. Affection. That was what she was determined to call it, even when the nearness of him moments ago had made her heart race and her whole body ache with a desire to be wrapped in the warmth of his arms and have his fingers trace over her skin. It was just…affection.

A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
Asher never desired to change another human being. If they wanted to be cruel, heartless, selfless, stupid, ignorant, or any other number of traits who was he to stop them from acting on who they were? It placed a pang of guilt in his heart at Morgan's comment, not quite sure whether he should take it at face value or feel bad. She uttered the words as though she were blaming Asher of forcing her to change, when in all reality he liked who she was. A bit scary to be sure, and abrasive, but beneath that was someone he had grown quite attached to. Don't let her know you feel that way, or things might be different. Asher was not sure how Morgan truly felt about him, so figured that holding his tongue was probably the best bet. In truth, Morgan somewhat reminded him of Adam, but in a slightly different light. One, she was female but that was an obvious difference. Two, their attitude towards others were similar. Adam was a lot angrier to be sure, but Asher knew who his brother could be. Beneath the aggression and dark scowl was just a kid who had suffered through the same event Asher did. It was a heavy blow to all of them. Asher just managed to take it in stride. As for Morgan, well, it was the same thing. Protection could make people do strange things.
"Because I want a girl who is real?" Asher chuckled, glancing at her with one eyebrow raised slightly to match his confusion. "That sounds kinda like the opposite of a fairy tale to me. Perfect is boring, anyway." Catching the smile on her face he began to feel more at ease and smiled in return; Morgan's attitude changed with the wind, which was rather suiting considering their element. It was really hard to gauge her reaction to certain things he said, so Asher was always attempting to re-think his sentences before he said them out loud. It did not always work, but at least he tried. It seemed that over the course of the past few weeks Morgan was slowly understanding how he worked, just as he was understanding her. It was one of the main reasons he rarely took her outbursts to heart or got angry; he knew what was underneath. He emitted a bit of a laugh as he topped off the fluids in the car, the girl in the waiting room forgotten for the moment. "I like the beach, but mostly for swimming and kayaking purposes," Asher replied, glancing over at her from under the hood. "Though I guess if I have the right person with me a walk on the beach doesn't sound too awful." He passed her a faint smirk and a wink before finishing the car, the hood slamming down with a dull thud.
It was strange though, the response he elicited from Morgan as he leaned against the table. She appeared almost nervous, or uncertain but did not make a move to slap him or make a harsh comment. Instead, she placed her hands on his upper chest--a motion which sent his heart into a flurry of rapid palpitations--and pushed him back. He did not fight it but merely put a little distance between them, still looking down at her with his warm smile. "Well, I figured that. And I wasn't offering up a surrogate family. Just...thought if you wanted to hang out with me more then...it would be better than staying here all night." Asher shrugged a bit, looking rather boyish and...dare he say it...insecure? Maybe asking her over to his house was a bit much, even though it was merely a friendly gesture. He rubbed the back of his head. "She asked who I was hanging out with and texting so much since I kept getting distracted from chores and homework, and said that it was you. She's a very social person and I guess was just eager to meet you."
He accidentally let slip that Morgan had been distracting him lately; from his thoughts to his schoolwork, it was hard to pay attention when they talked or spent time together. The focus would shift completely to the girl sitting before him now. After a moment he looked back at the waiting room--remember the girl now existed--and caught her eye. He held up the keys and jangled them to let 'huffy' know her car was ready. She could not have gotten out of there fast enough. Blonde hair bouncing against her shoulders, she walked towards Asher, snatched the keys, and got in the car. She did take the time to pass them a glare before backing out of the garage and taking off down the road. Silence encompassed the room once again. Asher sighed and shrugged, not really phased by the girl's reaction. After Morgan and Adam, that was nothing. He did find another difference between Morgan and Adam: one of them made him wonder what he could possibly do to actually get her to walk on that beach with him. "So, it's up to you if you want to go or not. No obligations or anything. I figured free food was a good bonus." He smiled brightly, taking off his soiled shirt and putting on a clean one.

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
She could barely hear a word he was saying. She was still enveloped in how close he had been. As pathetic as it was (and she knew it was), her hands were shaking. She gripped the table once more, hoping to either hide or stifle the weakness of her trembling. Morgan was overcome by disgust, aimed entirely at herself. She was becoming indistinguishable from the characters of every teen drama. Every single cliché, the romantic moments girls always whispered about in hallways, she was letting herself think they were real. People didn’t really tremble, not because of something so simple. None of this was real, it was never supposed to exist. It was something to be read in fairy-tales, to watch in romantic comedies, to hear about in stories so exaggerated that they couldn’t possibly be truth. Though Morgan had spent years harboring these fantasies – or at least remembering the fantasies of her childhood – she had never believed these things actually happened. She had fought tooth and nail to create a person in herself she could trust. She had seen herself as strong. She was vulnerable, yes. She was out of control and dangerous, yes. But she was hardened, she was tough and would fend for herself. And a few short weeks, a few hundred text messages, a lopsided warm smile, and what was she now? She was something she didn’t recognize, a girl she had never wanted to be – even before the incident. It had happened so easily, without a fight. And this was what disgusted her, more than anything. It was the realization that through it all, she had never been strong. She had never been tough. She had only ever been a liar, waiting for the right soul to come along and blow her little straw house to the ground. She toppled so easily.
Morgan’s mind was only half on Asher’s words, if even that much. She heard something about a beach and looked up, not realizing she had tilted her head down to stare at her swinging feet. The smile had faded into thoughtfulness, only bare glimpses of her thoughts visible in her guarded eyes. It had been weeks since Morgan had bothered to be guarded with Asher, but she was guarded now. “There are too many grains.” The words were random, seemingly coming from nowhere. But she continued. “Maybe one for every person that ever walked across the shores. Even if you find the right person to walk with, who will you be when you come back?” This didn’t even sound like her. It sounded like Sebastian. He had always been the philosophical one. Morgan seemed to realize how foreign her words sounded and shook her head. The distant look in her eyes was gone, forcibly pushed away. She smirked at him, though the edges were tight with a hint of strain. “Scratch that. When you find the girl that will take long walks on midnight beaches with you, I’ll walk ahead throwing rose petals on your path.” She grinned, and this time it wasn’t so strained. She had become good at compartmentalizing and bit by bit – the thoughts were fading away. But she doubted she’d ever lose that overwhelming feeling of disgust. She watched as Asher slammed the hood down, wiping his hands, his work obviously complete. Morgan hopped off her table, though she kept a careful distance from Asher. If she couldn’t control her abilities, she at least wanted to control her breathing. Huffy was marching out of the waiting room, obviously still wound up. Morgan watched the girl, looking between her and Asher.
A grimace passed her lips. As much as she hated it, Morgan wanted to try – for Asher. She cleared her throat as Huffy walked by, opening the car door violently. Morgan hesitated, but called out. “Have a nice night.” The words sounded odd, as if Morgan wasn’t quite sure how to say them. But there wasn’t the littlest bit of malice or mockery in them. It wasn’t an apology – Morgan couldn’t quite do that yet. But it was something. Morgan watched her go, obviously wishing to leave as quickly as possible. But as she spoke, she could have sworn the girl paused for just a moment. Morgan turned back to Asher, chewing her lip slightly. The truth was, being in a house sounded nice. Besides school and public buildings, Morgan hadn’t actually been inside a house since her own. She had memories of her kitchen, of hallways and doors and familiar smells. She had one special memory of a very old, worn, stuffed dog. But that was for another time. Morgan looked back at Asher in time to see him strip off his shirt. Morgan flushed and quickly looked away. It wasn’t that she hadn’t seen a man’s chest before, it was that this was Asher. She ran a hand through her hair, mentally cursing the idiotic boy. She moved to slip past him, catching him say something about talking to his mother about her. “If she tries to Mama Bear me, then it won’t matter how good her food is.” Morgan didn’t address the issue of Asher actually talking about her at home. That would be for another time, perhaps in the not so distant future. But as she turned her back and started to walk towards the door of the shop, she smiled a small private smile. It was nice after all, to have someone think about you enough to be present in the home.

A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
Asher had to admit that he was a bit surprised at Morgan's reply. She stayed quiet the entire time he spoke, waiting until there was a lull in the one-sided conversation to respond. Had she made a smart-ass comment or told him that he had more luck finding a unicorn than a girl willing to walk down the beach with him, he might have rolled with the punches and passed her a smile to blow it off. However it was the complete opposite of what he was expecting and did not know how to reply. Morgan then seemed to catch herself and changed the course of her statement, which Asher silently appreciated. He was good at making jokes and taking things lightly, but when the question was highly philosophical and required a bit more thought than usual he was at a loss. "Who knows if I'll find her," Asher shrugged, messing with his hair a little to distract himself. Once the blonde strode out of the waiting room and made an effort to escape the auto shop, the boy let out a bit of a sigh; although he knew the girls were at odds with one another it was a good tug away from his thoughts. It was surprising to hear Morgan offer up a cordial farewell to the girl despite her actions earlier, which brought a smile to Asher's face. It was soft, but visible none the less. He decided not to say anything on the matter for fear that Morgan would retract again. Thanks. Asher thought to himself, nodding to Morgan.
"I'll make sure she doesn't." Asher consoled, grabbing the unfinished sandwich. He was genuinely upset that the blonde distracted him from finishing his meal which Morgan so thoughtfully brought to him, but did not make an outward fuss over it. Wrapping the paper back around the unfinished sub, Asher placed it in the mini-fridge in the corner of the shop. That would make for a good snack tomorrow afternoon after school while working on the car. Just as Asher put the sandwich away he passed by the break room door and took a moment to knock on the dark wood. Greg emitted a grunt of acknowledgement, to which Asher replied, "Greg I finished up the last customer. I have to head home now but I'll see you tomorrow afternoon." The older man grunted again, and from somewhere behind the door he heard him shuffling around. He would probably sit in a chair in the garage and wait out the rest of the afternoon before closing. Once Asher was sure he had everything, he caught up to Morgan and smiled down at her with the same attitude he always did. Happy, bright, care-free. She may not have thought much about it, but for him her presence was greatly welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed despite the tiny hiccups along the way. She actually told the girl to have a nice night... He still couldn't get over it! What had changed? Did his being upset actually instill an urge to be 'friendly'? "Well, the walk isn't too bad from here, so hopefully you won't mind too much."
The walk was somewhat serene, with Asher making a comment and Morgan either hardly replying or making some sort of grunt in agreement. It seemed to be their basis for conversation sometimes, especially after an ordeal like back in the auto shop. She acted somewhat like a scorned child, which Asher could understand to an extent. He had to admit she was improving though. Once Asher reached the front door and pushed it open, he relaxed his shoulders and smiled. "Mom, Adam, I'm home!" He called out into the cozy home. The foyer had a lovely dark polished wood, with the living room only five or six steps forward. To the left was the entrance to the kitchen, which was always clean and bright. To his right was a dining room, and before you hit the dining room lay a flight of stairs leading to the bedrooms. A small grunt of surprise came from the top of said stairs. Looking up one could see a shorter, younger boy who looked quite similar to Asher, only instead of a smile there lay a scowl and a raised brow of confusion. His hair was significantly shorter, too. "Who the fuck is that?" The boy asked, pointing roughly in Morgan's direction. Asher frowned. "This is my friend Morgan, and stop saying the word fuck. You're only thirteen."
From the kitchen, a woman emerged. She was rather tall for a female, had shoulder-blade length brown hair, and a bright smile that matched the older of the Rizzo brothers perfectly. "Well hello!" Molly chirped happily, approaching Morgan and offering a hand. "You must be the girl Asher is always talking to. I'm Molly, Asher's mom obviously. It's nice to meet you." From the stairs another scoff was heard, and at that the boy slid down the banister towards the three standing at the front door. He landed rather gracefully in front of them, scanning Morgan up and down. "Adam, this is Morgan. Morgan, Adam. He's my younger brother and pain in the neck." He flashed a bit of a smile towards Morgan, though it was strained. Asher never brought home a girl before, friend or girlfriend, and was a little nervous to how Adam was going to respond. The younger brother continued to observe the two, looking thoughtful. Molly sensed the tension and nodded to Morgan before making way to the kitchen. Once she was out of sight Adam's lips tugged into a smirk. "So I guess you dug into the bottom of the shit pile and found Asher, eh? You can do better than him." Asher slumped his shoulders and rubbed his temple in frustration; clearly the only person in his life that could actually annoy him was Adam.

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
Morgan walked in relative silence. It wasn’t really the awkward sort of silence. The way Morgan saw it, silence was a species – diverse and specific. There was the awkward romantic relationship silence, usually accompanied by failed compliments and forced smiles. There was the guilty silence, which was usually because one or more parties had committed some sort of moral crime against another. She could go on listing the kinds of silence, but what was the point? This silence was the only thing she need concern herself with. This silence was amiable, the companion silence. This was the kind of silence that settled down between two friends when one or both of them simply had nothing that needed to be said, or perhaps were lost in thought. It wasn’t awkward or difficult or angry. It wasn’t suspicious or sad. It was just, quiet. Though in truth, Asher seemed determined to break that silence, tossing in seemingly random comments about this and that. Morgan grunted or shrugged or more often, said nothing at all. She didn’t think Asher really expected a reply. Her hands were deep in her pockets, her forehead lined with nervousness. This whole meeting the family thing, what did it mean? Did it have to mean anything? Morgan had been flying solo for four years. She had cut off all communication with her own parents – especially after they made it clear that they would prohibit all contact between her and Sebastian. As for siblings, well she had only ever had Sebastian. And from what Asher said and the faces he made, Adam was nothing like Sebastian. And he was a fire. Morgan shivered. Fire was one of her greatest fears. And a thirteen year old kid? Morgan knew better than anyone the dangers of a youthful elemental – untrained and uneducated.
Then there was the matter of manners. Morgan wasn’t some sort of heathen. She knew manners. They were just…rusty. Her parents had taught her please and thank you and all of that – but Morgan hadn’t exactly been practicing such things for a few years. And suppose Asher’s mother decided Morgan was a bad influence or a psychopath or something? Then Morgan would likely lose him, and that just wasn’t an option. Oh god, what if Asher was one of those creepy Mama’s Boys? Morgan wrinkled her nose distastefully. There were just so many things that could go wrong. Morgan was doing fine with her one on one time with Asher. She was almost herself. But putting her in a group…well how intelligent could that really be? But Asher just seemed to be more and more at ease the farther he walked. Well of course he would be, they were on their way to his home, someplace warm and familiar to him. It wasn’t warm and familiar to Morgan, not in the least. They reached his home all too soon. Morgan hung behind as Asher pushed open the front door, calling to his family. She walked through the door after him, craning her neck to look around. God she was pathetic. She hadn’t been in a house since her own, it was so foreign to her in a way. Plus it was a Canadian house. She was American, born and bred. Morgan’s attention was immediately drawn to a kid standing at the top of the stairs – kind of like a miniature angry Asher. Amusing really. Morgan smirked at him. She had to be nice to the mom, but the brother was fair game. She grinned, her dangerous grin – the one that Asher would understand, but his brother wouldn’t. She doubted Asher would mind really. She was almost doing him a favor.
She held her tongue as the mother appeared. She was a tall woman, towering over Morgan. And she was a total Mama Bear. She actually made Morgan think of Nell, whom Morgan affectionately referred to as Mama Earth. Well…usually affectionately. The girl (Nell) had pulled Morgan’s unconscious body from the lake after Morgan had threatened to kill her and passed out. That kind of experience really solidified a bond. Morgan said a quiet hello, though her attention was focused mainly on Adam who now slid down the banister to land gracefully in front of Asher and Morgan. Mrs. Rizzo had wandered back into the kitchen, out of earshot. The grin returned. Morgan looked Adam up and down. “If I had really dug to the bottom of the shit pile, I would have found you. What are you, ten?” Morgan looked up at Asher, grinning. She could see the annoyance Adam caused Asher. That pretty much gave Morgan permission right? Well, she would tell herself that. It was more fun anyways. She looked back to Adam. “You’re going to get your ass kicked once you really start school.” She looked the kid up and down thoughtfully, still grinning. She had mostly forgotten her initial fear of Adam’s element. Plus, she figured at the littlest peep – Mrs. Rizzo would straighten Adam out. Really, if you looked at it from Morgan’s point of view, she was untouchable.

A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
There was something satisfying about having someone else take Adam down a notch or two. Asher and his younger brother were always bantering back and forth, and if things got too bad they would take to wrestling on the living room floor to burn off their anger or pent up energy. Fortunately neither rarely hurt the other. In the past when Adam's anger issues were completely out of control--especially after their father was incarcerated--Asher made excuses for the bruises on his arms or the occasional black eye. Now their matches were more controlled and normally both came out panting but smiling. Molly couldn't argue with the results. However Adam took to being verbally aggressive instead of physically, at least when they were at home. He had no idea how things went down at school, only that they received a phone call from the front office at least once a week. Poor Molly still has yet to find a solution. Morgan, to Adam's dismay, had a quick silver tongue that rivaled his own, and like a child half pouted at her remark. "I'm thirteen, actually," Adam replied hotly. After a moment the boy composed himself and smirked, looking the girl up and down. "But age is just a number baby. You should hang around with a real man." He gestured to himself with a thumb before turning and punching Asher in the arm.
"You can't even grow facial hair little bro. Hell, I'm not sure you'll even get much taller. I'm sure Morgan would prefer someone who isn't four feet tall." For once Asher sneered and displayed physical aggression by pushing Adam forward towards the kitchen, shaking his head and sighing in exasperation. Adam passed a glare at Asher, glancing back to wink at Morgan. If one person managed to get under his skin, it was Adam. Maybe it was because they lived together and they were siblings, but Asher could not be quite sure what it was about the boy that set his patience on a shorter fuse. It has to be that he's my brother. It was odd though because some days Adam was the total opposite. Asher looked over at Morgan and shrugged. "Sorry about that. He's not always an ass hole." And that was a fact, even if Adam attempted to defy that fact each and every day. Stepping into the kitchen, Asher exhaled slowly and examined the room briefly. The walls were a soft cream color, the tablecloth some sort of burnt orange color with a golden yellow trim on the edges. In the middle of the table was a bowl of fake fruit, which both Rizzo brothers would often mistake for real fruit when they were younger.
"So, Morgan," Molly started, slaving over the stove. Asher gestured to the table for Morgan to sit down if she wanted. "What element are you? The same as us?" The woman turned a little to catch a glimpse of them, smiling. Asher had already told Morgan that his mother was a Wind, and it was possible Adam was to become a fire, so the question at least made for an easy answer. Adam huffed a bit and sat down at the table, observing Morgan and Asher with a thoughtful frown on his face. It was as though he wanted to say something, but refrained for the sake of his mother's presence. Asher was grateful that his brother had some sense of control over his tongue, even if it was very brief. Taking advantage of the lull, Asher walked over to the fridge, glancing back at Morgan. "Do you want something to drink? Water, milk, tea, soda...pretty much whatever you want." The woman nodded in agreement with her son as she finished stirring up some sauce in a pan. "Make yourself at home Morgan. Help yourself to whatever you want." Asher peered over the fridge door to take a look at what his mom was cooking and instantly a ravenous gleam flashed in his eyes. Obviously it was one of his favorite meals judging by his reaction. "She's making chicken cheese enchiladas. I hope that's okay. If not we have plenty of other things to eat too." Molly nodded again, stealing a glance at Morgan with a soft smile.

-----------------------------------TELL ME, DID THE WIND SWEEP YOU OFF YOUR FEET did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
AND HEAD BACK TOWARD THE MILKY WAY ----------------------------------
Morgan would have said more, but they had moved into the kitchen now. From what she could see, banter as had just passed was perfectly acceptable – out of earshot of Mrs. Rizzo. But now they were in the kitchen, and everyone had to behave. Even so, Morgan sent a smirk at Adam. His comments didn’t faze her. They were nothing she hadn’t heard before – from a multitude of ages. She did have the perfect reply, it was a shame she wouldn’t be able to use it. You see, there were certain conditions in which little boys became mentally unstable and fixated on women far older than themselves. It was because of some bizarre emotional attachment to their mothers. So you would have a nineteen year old kid with a sixty year old lady. But it was all linked back to the mother. Morgan was sure this comment would have sent Adam over the edge, but alas she couldn’t use it – not quite then. Instead, Morgan perched herself on one of the chairs. She couldn’t help but stare wonderingly around. The room was beautiful, so different from her kitchen back home. Morgan’s whole home had been rather like a big cedar lodge. All the furniture was wood or leather, a theme to it. It was all woodsy, fitting the area they lived in. But this house, this was modern and beautiful. Morgan traced a finger over the table, smiling at the fake fruit. It was weird for her to realize this was only the second kitchen she had ever been in, the first in the past four years. She got all her food from the Academy, lived year round at the Academy. But here she was, walking around in a house! Something about the whole thing made Morgan feel all giggly, like a little girl.
But Morgan was not the giggly sort of girl, so she remained quiet. Morgan raised her head at Mrs. Rizzo’s words. Asher had said her name was Molly, but it somehow felt strange to call the smiling motherly woman by her first name. It didn’t fit right. Morgan nodded at her words. Adam obviously wasn’t old enough to get his element yet, but it seemed pretty sure that he would be fire. Perhaps like their father? Asher hadn’t mentioned him. Morgan hadn’t asked. She cleared her throat slightly. “I’m Wind, though my brother is Water.” Morgan clamped her lips shut. She wasn’t sure why she had mentioned Sebastian. She spoke so conversationally. Besides Asher, she had never even told anyone she had a brother and here she was just spilling it to strangers. This was going to go downhill, fast. Unless of course Morgan went to her fallback plan. Lie. That always worked well. Morgan turned to Adam, seeking desperately to move the subject away from herself, yet also enjoying a little jab at Adam. Perhaps in reply to his earlier comment. “And what about little Adam here? He doesn’t seem like he’s going to be Wind like us, does he?” She smiled sweetly at him, turning back to Mrs. Rizzo. “I remember being that young once, the childish years before you become a young man or woman.” This was jolly good fun, it was. And hopefully the subject would patter away from Sebastian. That was, if Mrs. Rizzo was the type to let it go. But she seemed the type to inquire. Morgan shifted in her seat. She wasn’t sure what about lying to Mrs. Rizzo made her uncomfortable. Perhaps it was the knowledge that if she lied to Mrs. Rizzo, she would be lying to Asher too. As much as Morgan had resisted saying particular things, she had never outright lied to Asher.
Asher was asking something. Morgan turned her head to him. She wasn’t sure what to say. Was offering food just a motion, like asking a rhetorical question? Was Morgan supposed to accept? God why were her own parents such fuck wads? Morgan paused a moment before nodding her head. “Just water please-“ She stopped herself before she added in one of her many nicknames. She wasn’t sure how Molly would like to hear her son referred to as Beefsteak. Morgan figured water was a safe choice. If she took soda, she might look like a junk food addict, and then Molly might think Morgan had unhealthy habits and would be a fat person in later life. If she took tea, she might seem pretentious. Why the hell was Morgan stressing out about this? Morgan had nearly worked herself into a panic over something to drink. This entire situation was utterly ridiculous. Morgan turned back to Mrs. Rizzo, still managing to smile somewhat convincingly. And underneath it all, all the shock and awe and panic, Morgan felt an ache of homesickness.

A drop in the ocean, A change in the weather, I was praying that you and me might end up together, It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert. OUTFIT.
"Oh, a brother?" Molly echoed, tilting her head a little in curiosity. Asher seemed to tense up slightly at his mothers' inquiry. It was not an unwarranted question by any means, being as this was normal human conversation. Unfortunately Morgan was not accustomed to normal human conversation and Asher felt that maybe too many questions would bother the poor girl. He was the exact same way when people prodded into his personal life, especially about his dad. The temporary thought distracted him from his anxiety, and his mom continued chatting as though it were no big deal. "I'm guessing he goes to the academy too? What grade?" Asher was drawn out of his thoughts again, glancing at Morgan helplessly and shaking his head. If her family ties were stronger he was pretty sure she might have discussed it more openly. Right? If Asher's family had been together, and his dad still living a normal life at home then surely he would not be so closed off to the world about his past. Maybe that was what Morgan was dealing with? He felt nervous for her but did not deter his mother from inquiring.
The topic quickly changed--courtesy of Morgan--and Adam was now placed in the hot seat. Asher could only smile triumphantly as the younger Rizzo brother fumbled around with his words, looking flustered, confused, and pissed off all at the same time. Molly merely smiled and nodded. "I'm pretty sure that his element will take after that of his father, judging by--" Adam quickly stood up, his face contorted with fury and a new darkness in his eyes that even set Asher on edge. Molly was trying to keep civil conversation with Morgan by making their father out to be just another normal person. A figure that was not present yet present at the same time. Adam would hear none of it, and before Molly could try and make amends the boy pushed back from the table and stormed off. "Fuck you mom! Fuck you!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, leaving the kitchen in a bitter silence. Asher swallowed hard, and Molly quickly lowered her head but continued to stir the sauce. Asher quickly poured Morgan a glass of water and set it down on the table in front of her, falling back into the seat next to her. "Adam and dad never got along," Asher lied with a faint smile, picking at the tablecloth. "But it doesn't help that his temper is ridiculous. He'll come back around." He wanted so badly to talk bout what happened, but his tongue remained tied into a tight knot. Asher never went out of his way to talk about his past. Why start now? There really was no reason for it. He decided to talk about the man as though he were dead, because to the Rizzo family he practically was.
"Well, food is ready in any case," Molly said sweetly, still smiling as though the event never occurred. Asher got up to help his mom, taking a moment to run his hand over Morgan's shoulder apologetically. She might not have cared about Adam's outburst, but he did. The woman served up the plates swiftly and with a motherly finesse. Asher grabbed the plates and set them on the table, leaving one in front of Morgan. "For you, my lady," Asher teased, his eyes alight with a smile as his breath pushed past her ear. He pulled back and settled into his own seat, the woman also joining them at the table. "Well this was an eventful afternoon!" Molly chirped. "I hope that you won't be scared off by Adam, Morgan. You have made Asher smile so much. I can only hope you'll stick around." Asher felt his face grow warm with embarrassment, glancing at Morgan with a sheepish smile before digging into his meal. Food was always the best distraction.
