It felt good to be accomplished. Although Devin was lazy and rarely ever took the time to be the best that he could be, he did relish in achieving something every now and again. Finding a job, saving up money, moving out, getting his girl...it was a proud string of moments Devin would not trade for anything. They took a long time to come together, but now that they coexisted peacefully with one another the world was brightening up considerably. "I work at the club. Finally got me that D.J. job I've been pining over for a while now." He would spend evenings and afternoons at Corrosion talking to the manager and mingling with customers in hopes that he could build up a bit of a reputation. That was the business-like approach, at least in his mind. It paid off, and once he turned eighteen they hired him to work there on weekends and select weeknights. Devin managed well enough, and wouldn't have any other job.
"Yeah, it is," Devin replied with a shrug, tapping the empty cup with his fingers. "But we didn't do anything because we were both busy so..." Joshua had the luxury of family and Nell to spend his birthday with, but at the time Devin did not have anyone. Autumn's location was unknown, and his family was either busy hating him or living too far away to do any sort of celebration. It was sad, but Devin spent his birthday sitting on his couch watching a skateboarding competition, the birthday cake being a doughnut left over from the previous morning's breakfast. The birthday of champions. "Well hey, it'll give us an excuse to have a party, and have cake. Because I really could go for a slice of cake." Devin patted his stomach and smiled at his friend, unwilling to share with him the shitty birthday he had all to himself. It was not Joshua's fault; hell, it really wasn't anyone's fault. Just bad timing. His gaze traveled back out the window, watching people walk by. A lot of the fires did not really cherish the winter weather as much as others, so Devin was not surprised to hear Joshua claim his hatred for the snowy season. Instead, Devin chuckled and nodded. He didn't have a car to call his own.
What Devin would give to have his own car, and extra money to spare to do things outside of the Hollow without feeling like he was being too excessive. Right now he was getting by comfortably, but there would be a time when he would like to go and do things outside of his budget. Not gonna happen any time soon. A small pang of fear churned in his gut; Autumn was not a materialistic person but he wanted to be able to do nice things for her. It made him feel bad that at the current moment he could not treat her to fancy dinners or buy her jewelry. A frown tugged at his lips for half a second before focusing on Joshua and the conversation at hand; he could worry about his problems later. "Yeah, it should be. Don't forget to bring back a lot of pictures and stuff. Maybe a souvenir for me." Devin teased, raising an eyebrow. Nodding a little he stood up and stretched out, stopping mid-way as he heard his phone going off. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw that it was Autumn. A bright smile crossed his face as he read the text, glancing at Josh. "Sorry man, my lady calls. Call me later, and we'll hang out in the next couple of days. We can't have another lull like we did last time." Devin clapped a hand on Joshua's shoulder, smiling before leaving Timmie's, a light skip in his step.
