Aramina could tell what he was saying. More so for the fact that every element, no matter what type of element it is, there will always be those couple of people that just erk you around and give the entire element a bad name. But you know, everyone gets over that once they get into collage, right? At least Ashton didn't think that she was a weirdo at this point in time or a bad person in general. Even if she were in the fire element. Considering she knew a couple people in the Earth element, other than Ashton, she knew that they had a big thing against the Fire element half the time but being in Wind did come with it's advantages, like the fact that she could pick who she wanted to be friends with. "I can understand that, you would no idea." Aramina said wondering if Ashton even knew the people that she was friends with at where in his own element. Letting the thought leave her mind she just wondered how far away they where from the boundary.
"You have no idea." She said with a laugh. Aramina knew quite a lot of people around the school that where older than her and they all seemed at act different than the people in her year and under. 'It must be something that just happens when you get to that age.' Aramina thought to herself as she looked over to Ashton. He was a year older than her apparently, no wonder he looked around her age. He wouldn't have been to much older than her self at this point. "You would hope that it would get better after that long, I can't really talk though. I haven't been here as long." She said as she stopped for a second to just have a little look around. Aramina had never been this far out before and it was a new feeling to her all together.
As soon as she saw that Ashton had walked forward she ran a little to catch and as soon as she did, she heard him ask her something about her dorm. That was something that she had never really be asked before and it took her awhile to even think about what she would even describe what her element and dorm was like. "Well," She began to say when she decided that she would have to say this just the right way, "I guess it is sort of like that. Everyone is so different but they also have something different from the person next to them. All of us have different talents and interests and what makes us special. Though, there are heaps of fights and stuff because some people just clash but whatever." Shrugging she wondered if he had some idea now due to the fact she didn't really know any other way to describe her dorm, and that got her thinking. "What about you Earth people? Are you guys always so nice?" Even though one of her best friends was a Earthy, she never really knew if every was so nice.

He listened with obvious interest as Aramina described what it was like to be a part of the infamous Wind dormitories. He found that it agreed with most of the things he had heard about them but he was willing to bet that there were a lot of inside things that only a Wind elemental would know. Earth had their secrets as well, as did the others. It was all part of the intricacy. "That sounds pretty cool," he said. "At least there's never a dull moment." He couldn't really say whether being in a dormitory with a bunch of diverse people was better than being with like-minded folks. He was so used to the Earth element it was almost like they were extended family to him. Of course, he tried not to tell his little brother that. Cameron already resented the school for stealing his big brother away from him until the holidays rolled around. Thoughts of the almost-nine year old made his lips twitch into a brief smile that had nothing to do with their conversation but might have easily been mistaken as amusement in the discussion of dorms.
He couldn't help but to laugh at the question on the Earth elementals. It was true that kindness was one of the biggest things they had slapped onto them in terms of stereotypes. He couldn't exactly deny that you got a lot of very friendly and sweet sorts amongst the Earth kids but he also wasn't going to go about pretending that he came from an element of saints. They had their flaws like all people and Ashton was honest enough to admit that. "We might be nice," he said with the air of a disclaimer, "but that doesn't mean we're all pacifistic or that we don't argue with one another occasionally." They were certainly less volatile and aggressive than the Fire kids but he'd seen plenty of Earth elementals snapping at one another. When you were forced to live with other people your age sometimes you couldn't help but crack under pressure no matter how nice of a person you were. "Some of us hate fighting, some of us will if we have to... that kind of thing." He grinned a little at the end.
Ashton felt at home as they strolled between the trees, like the plants and underbrush were old friends expecting him amongst their midst. He'd always loved nature growing up and yet he hadn't known until that fateful day in the backyard when the storm had hit that there had been a reason for it all. Or was that really the reason? He'd met other people that liked the forest as much as he did but who were in different elements. He wondered to himself whether or not there were any Earth elementals who despised nature and wanted to share these thoughts with his new friend, but figured that as a Wind elemental she might not grasp what he meant as much. Instead, he said, "So if you haven't been to the boundary, how far have you been?" Then he realised something--Aramina was a tenth grader. "Shit," he laughed, "I just realised we're breaking the rules--or, uh, you are anyway." Only the sixteen-and-ups were supposed to go into the forest thanks to how easy it was to get lost. "Don't worry, I won't tell," he insisted, even though as a leader it was his duty and obligation. It had been his idea and he'd accept the blame if he had to.

'Well,' Aramina began to think once he voice what he thought about her Wind dorm, 'At least someone thinks so.' This was considering the fact that she didn't get along with many people in her dorm due to her personality clashing with others. This was also why she just recently changed dorm rooms, because it least in her opinion, her last roommate was a total bitch but whatever. Dani was really awesome and they had been really good friends ever since she moved in with her. "You defiantly have a point there, never a dull moment indeed." You never really knew what was going to happen next when you where in her dorm, due to the difference between each person. Most people in her dorm just stuck to another dorm that seemed to suit them. Aramina herself tended to go with the Earth and Water kids.
When she heard what he thought of his own dorm she was just a little surprised. From what Aramina had heard from one of her really good friends who visited the Earth dorms every now and again, even though she was only a day student, she had always said that everyone was always really nice. Though, she could understand where he was coming from. "When you really think about it," Aramina began to as she looked up to see Ashton, "Every dorm would be the same that way." She couldn't help but smile when she said this, for once she had actually said something that made someone think a little, or at least it made her think just that little bit more about just in what ways the dorms were the same.
Just walking through the bush area Aramina felt really weird. She had never really been around this area of the school before and hoping that she wouldn't get hurt was defiantly on her list of 'to-dos' while they were walking further and further away from the school itself. But as soon as she heard Ashton talk about her not being aloud to even go to the boundary herself, as she was only fifteen but it was what he said next that really caught her off guard. The fact that he was an Earth Leader, she would have thought that he would tell not not tell. She couldn't help but smile. "Thanks." She said looking up at Ashton hoping that he realized how grateful she really was. "So, what do you think we are going to find when we actually get there?" She asked wondering what he himself thought, not what eh had heard from some of the people in his dorm thought.

Ashton considered Aramina's words for a moment before nodding a little. "I suppose you're right," he concluded. Everyone had their own quirks and ways of doing things. Even if you were stuck with a bunch of people like you it didn't guarantee smooth sailing. He always wondered about the Fire dormitories and how a bunch of temperamental and aggressive folks could hang around one another without having fights with each other left and right but he'd never had the chance to ask. Except with Asha, but they hadn't talked about their elements much. "And of course," he added thoughtfully, "there's things that everyone would find annoying, like talking too loud or knocking stuff over." They might all react to it in different ways (an Earth kid might be upset if you broke something of theirs, a Fire elemental would probably attack you) but the same basic things applied. Ashton loved the Earth elementals. They were like family to him. But if one of them got on his last nerve he'd probably be upset with them no matter who they were. It was human--er, it was elemental nature.
He just grinned in response to her thanks, accepting it for what it was. He would have been a hypocrite if he turned her in and Ashton didn't value hypocrisy, so it really wasn't much of a problem on his end. His green eyes grew more serious when she asked him a question, though, actually taking the time to think it through. He didn't want to give her a lame or half-assed answer like 'I don't know' or anything. "Well," he said, "we'll probably find the fence... and a bunch of trees, of course. I mean we are in a forest." He laughed to show that he was only messing around and joking. In truth he wasn't sure what the boundary looked like save for the fact that it was just a fence. He doubted they had anything cool like watchtowers or anything like that. He also knew that it wasn't some sort of imprisonment fence. It didn't have barbed wire and you could step over it if you wanted to. At least he thought that you could. The girl could have been lying to him, he supposed. "It'll be different wherever you go," he said more seriously, "I mean it goes all the way around so it probably goes up and over that mountain the cliffs are on, too, right?" It was more of a hypothetical question, as Ashton wasn't sure if she'd really know.
They came upon a small stream, something Ashton had not expected since he'd never been in this far. He was looking straight ahead rather than at the ground below and so it was only the bubbling and gurgling as it wended its way around rocks and slid across the dirt below that alerted him to its presence. Blinking at it, he said, "If only one of us were a water elemental..." He wasn't to be defeated by a simple problem such as water, however. He didn't think it was narrow enough for them to jump across--maybe Ashton if he was lucky, with his longer legs, but even that was doubtful. Frowning, the Earth boy cast around for something that could be of help. A graduate Earth elemental could make stepping stones for them to get across but he hadn't reached that level yet. His eyes brightened as he saw a rotting log nearby. Laying it on the bank, he kept his hand on its mossy surface and willed it to strengthen, to grow. It was as if they were watching time itself reverse--the bark went from old and rotten to new and strong, holes and weak patches closed and strengthened themselves. When he let go he was a bit light-headed, but as it wasn't too big of a job there wasn't too much drain. "Help me move it into the water," he asked of Aramina, then said, "Hey, it's kind of windy. Think you could make it easier for us to push it along?" He knew that as a sophomore she wouldn't be able to just blast it across (as cool as that might have been) but maybe a bit of wind would be of assistance at least.

Aramina tried her best to imagine, from Ashton's thoughts on it, what the boundary would actually look like and she had to say that even though he did sound like he was joking he did have a really good point. As far as the both of them knew all the boundary really looked like was a small fence, a small boring fence that looks just, you know, boring as hell. Though she couldn't help but laugh just a little when she heard what Ashton, himself, thought it might be. "You would think that it would," Aramina began to say once she thought about what he had said next, "The 'fence' would go all way way up and around the school, so it would have to go the mountains and stuff." She finished her sentence trying to sound as non-nerdy as she could, hoping that she would sound like any normal person that you might meet randomly in a library and then go walking in forest with. You know, as often as that happened.
And just like many times before hand, Ashton had said something that had made the young wind girl laugh and even though this seemed like a recurring thing, it just seemed to be that the boy that she was currently with just happened to be funny, for some reason. Watching Ashton using some of his powers was defiantly something that amazed Aramina to some point. Even though she had seen a few people actually use earth type powers before she had always been a bit away for them when they did it, but not this time, she was only a few steps away when he had used his powers and Aramina couldn't help but feel really envious. What snapped herself out of her thought was Ashton asking her if she could help. Nodding, she licked her finger and placed it in the air so that she could get a good feel about how strong and in what direction the air itself was going.
As soon as she had come to a conclusion she moved her fingers around just a little a started to concentrate on on the log itself. Breathing in and out, closing her eyes she began to just thinking about what she was about it to, or at least that was what she would usually do. Bringing her hands closer to the log she let a breath of air in and as she let it out she push her hands forward, therefore moving a little bit of air that she could to try and move the log as much as she could. Opening her eyes she could she that she had moved the log so that it was almost into the water. Smiling bigger than she had in while she turned back to Ashton and yelled, "I DID IT! I can't believe that I just did that!" You could tell that Aramina was really excited about just doing that, even though it wasn't very much.

He was genuinely excited when she managed to use her powers to push the log closer to the water, amazed as he felt the gust ripple through the area and watched the thing rolling forward. "Yeah!" he said enthusiastically, holding out his hand in the offer of a high five. Alright, so Ashton was somewhat cheesy but he didn't think Aramina would mind his dorkiness too much. At the very least he was a friendly guy and for some people it was easy to relax in his presence because of this. Of course, there were others that were turned off by his excitable personality. He always did end up feeling a little guilty when he scared someone off with his overzealous attitude but as he made much more friends than enemies in the long run he was satisfied enough not to change his behaviour. "That was so cool," he said with a bit of a grin, sheepish about how much it had enthralled him but not trying to hide his enjoyment.
Out of his own curiosity and willingness to learn new things through questions rather than schoolwork, he asked, "Is it harder in the forest?" He knew that it was a lot harder to manipulate his Earth powers in the colder months when the ground froze and the plants died. One of the only times that Fire and Earth elementals agreed with one another, it seemed, was when they complained about what the cold was doing for their powers. However, that did not mean that Ashton hated the winter. One of his favourite memories of the school year was goofing off and building a snowman with Nell. Unfortunately their beloved creation had likely been kicked over by the more spiteful kids in the Academy or else melted as the Fire elementals' idea of a joke but that didn't bother him too much. It had been fun while it lasted. Sometimes it was fun to act like a kid again. "You seemed pretty shocked that you managed it," he recalled, blinking. "Have you ever done anything like that before?" He knew that it could be really exciting when you managed something you'd never accomplished before. A lot of the eleventh graders were excited for the next year when they'd learn the most about finalising their control. He shared in their excitement because though he wasn't very good academically he did enjoy his powers a lot.
Now that the log was right next to the water it didn't take a lot of effort to get it the rest of the way in. He shouldered his weight against the end and moved it so that either end was on a bank--ensuring that it wasn't swept away by the water underneath. Then, for extra enforcements, roots from the nearby trees grew under his influence and wrapped themselves around the bark, tethering it there. "Should be safe enough for us to cross now, I think," he said cheerfully, though he did go first to make sure. It was he who'd reinforced the log and he was heavier so if it was going to break he figured it would do so for him rather than for Aramina. He'd have hated for her to get across and then it break when he was going over, trapping them each on opposite sides. It held under his weight, thought, so his concerns were invalid. Hopping off at the opposite bank he waited for her and then continued walking, saying quite conversationally, "I've heard there are animals in here but I've never actually been far in enough to see anything other than birds. Maybe we can spot a deer or something." He tried not to think too much about bears and the risks that were posed when wandering their territory like this.

As soon as she saw that Ashton was as excited as she was once she had used her powers in that way she couldn't help but high five the earth boy back. She hadn't done much with her powers before this point, other than the small things here and there and when she had to practice in her classes, lets just say that she was more of a lover than a fighter. She hadn't really had to many people around her that help her with her powers, other than Dani of course, her roommate. As soon as they high five-d Ashton she couldn't help but smile quite a bit, it made her feel really good when she knew that people around her were happy and having a good time. Though as soon as he had asked her that question, Aramina couldn't help but stop and stare for a little bit.
She had never really been asked about her power before, due to the fact that she didn't really have to many friends out side of her wind dorm and they all knew what it was like when they tried to use their powers in different places. After thinking about it for a second she looked up and cleared her thought so that she could stall time just that little bit more. "I guess it kind of is," She stated looking around herself trying to find an explanation to why this was so, at this point in time Aramina wasn't feeling to creative, "It is easier to use my powers when I am in an open area due to the interference of the things around me. Like the trees here." Hoping that that would be enough for him to understand she looked about down to the ground and sighed a little to herself. His next question was what stumped her just a little. She hadn't really done much to do with her powers up to this point, other than the occasional movement of the wind around her that is. "Nothing to that degree, to be honest." She admitted to the earth elemental, "I haven't really done much other than the occasional movement of a very strong wind, so doing something like that was something just a little new." Aramina said trying to explain her situation further, hoping that he might also know the feeling of getting something right for the first time.
As soon as she saw him walking across the log that was now placed in the middle of the water, she began to get just a little worried. The last thing that she wanted to happen was for him to fall in the water and get hurt by the potential rocks at the bottom of the water bed. Though, as soon as she saw that he had gotten safely over the log she slowly followed, hoping that she wouldn't fall in to the water below. As soon as she reached the other side she looked to the sky and sighed, 'I really do hope that we can find a better way back.' she thought to herself as they began to move forward. Though what Ashton said next did scare her just a little, she just hoped to god that they wouldn't encounter any kind of animals while on their way to the boundary.

He listened attentively to her response, honestly interested in what she had to say. Ashton didn't ask empty questions for the sake of conversation--he was a social butterfly, he liked to make friends and he liked to get to know people on a more personal level. Sometimes this really freaked other people out and they backed away before he could say anything else to them but he also made a lot of really good friends out of it. His good nature also made him the target for a lot of not-so-nice people, however. He was easy to persuade and to trick, he was gullible and too quick to trust. He'd learned that the hard way sometimes in the past but if it meant making friends it was well worth the effort. So there was no doubt in his mind that he enjoyed Aramina's company as she told him about her powers. "That does make sense," he concluded. "I guess it's sort of like how it's harder to manipulate stone because it's more solid. All elements must have rules and things that make it easier." Or, in this case, more difficult. He was fascinated by the many ins and outs but he was not the type of person that would read a book to get his facts. Instead he preferred to learn this things through friendly inquiries with the people he knew. Like Aramina.
He grinned enthusiastically when Aramina confessed that it was her first time doing something that big with her powers. It felt pretty cool that he could be there to witness it. "There's a first for everything," he recited cheerily. He was cheesy, he knew, but that was just a part of his personality. You either accepted him for who he was or you just couldn't get along with a guy like Ashton. A lot of his overzealous enthusiasm also stemmed from the fact that his little brother was one of his closest friends and companions at home. He was used to goofing off and acting like a kid and even though he matured a lot when he went to the Academy he still slipped up and acted silly on occasion. "Bet it was a little draining though, eh? We can probably take a rest when we find the boundary. We've been walking for a while, it can't be far now." At least he hoped it wouldn't be far. He was getting hungry--something he had not anticipated for this trip. He wouldn't trust any of the berries in the forest and certainly couldn't grow his own. They could be poisonous either way and a little hunger pang wasn't worth being hospitalised... or worse.
The boundary line was hard for him to miss, though perhaps that was just because he was looking out for it. The red posts were staked into the ground at frequent intervals and as he glanced along the length on either side there didn't seem to be any sort of stopping point. Gazing over it and to the stretch of woods beyond he shuddered a little in spite of himself. "If we kept going we'd be all the way out in the middle of nowhere," he realised. Ashton waved his hand and grass started to sprout from the ground, thick and soft like a plush carpet. He made enough space for them both and then plopped down for a bit of a rest, pulling off his shoe and shaking a rock out before replacing it. "It's been bothering me for the past five minutes," he confessed with a laugh. "But I didn't want to hold us up so I just decided to wait." Glancing around, he was rather unimpressed by the grandeur... or lack thereof. That wasn't why he'd made this trip, though. He'd done this to build a friendship and to have an adventure. Mission accomplished. "When should we head back?" he asked.

Aramina could defiantly understand what Ashton was saying at this point. Most elements did have trouble surviving in certain places, like the fact that it would be hard to start a fire just after it had been raining, even though it had never been something that Aramina herself and thought about until this point. She just began to think about what types of things she could and couldn't do with her powers, even though it was only her second year at the academy, she also started to think about her brother and his wife and what they could do, considering they were a whole heap older than herself and most of the people that the academy, other than the teachers.
Aramina couldn't help but smile when she heard what Ashton had said. She had never really to much to do with her powers around others, unless she was in class. She would usually try and find somewhere that no-one could see her and just practice moving some of the air around her. Having someone actually be happy that she had done something new was also new. She never really did well in normal academics without having to study really really really hard. As soon as she began to think about this she felt just a little bit of a headache starting to come on. Only having listening to what Ashton had said next she quickly reacted. "Ohkay, that sounds good," Aramina admitted to the earth boy as the continued to walk forward, getting closer and closer to their final goal, "I could really do with a rest once we get there." She admitting to him, hoping that he wouldn't ask if she wanted to stop now.
As soon as she started to realize that they had been walking for quite a while now, she began to wonder how far away the boundary actually was. Hearing that Ashton was thinking the same thing was defiantly something that Aramina was happy to hear. Though as soon as she heard that he had been thinking the same for quite a while before hand was something that Aramina was also glad about. She could tell that was he was saying was true and that if they did keep walking ahead, the two of them would soon reach the middle of nowhere. "You have a really going point there." She voiced hoping that he wouldn't think to much of it. "Heading back sounds alright, I am starting to get a little hungry anyways,"

Like Aramina, Ashton had never been a bigshot academically. He could manage to get a passing grade but he'd always had to study until his eyes bled and his ears rang before he could get really good grades. At first his parents had pushed him and insisted that he could do better than he was but after a while they had let up to stop from stressing him out. Ashton had been struck with the normal childhood qualms that he wasn't going to be good enough for anything when he was older. He'd gotten over that now that he realised that doctors and lawyers and the other 'ideal' professions were not the only jobs in the world. He was not going to be considered defective just because he couldn't get into the best school. It was the reason why he cherished his power so highly and why he got enthusiastic about watching other people use theirs. It was almost like he'd been searching most of his life for that one place where he fit in, where he excelled, and he had found that at the Academy of the Elements. He was happy here. He wondered if Ara had anything in common with him there but for once he managed to withhold the question. Could it be considered rude to ask someone how they held up in school? He didn't know and wasn't going to bring it up to find out.
Ashton chuckled and nodded when she agreed that heading back would be a good idea. He stayed to rest for another five minutes or so until he wasn't as sore or tired and then he turned around and looked back the way they had came. There was nothing but forest visible for a long stretch and he hoped that they could keep on the straight path rather than accidentally veering off diagonally and taking twice as long to get back to the Academy. He didn't voice these morbid concerns aloud but merely said a chipper, "If we're lucky we'll get back before dinner!" Come to think of it he could use some nourishment as well. All of that walking and using his power had drained his strength a bit. He knew from elemental lessons, the ones he paid the most attention to, that the best cure for energy loss was sleep. But his professors had always told him that food helped as well if you didn't have the time to take a rest or didn't want to mess up your sleeping schedule just because you'd used your powers a lot in one day. "Do you eat in the mess hall or go down to the Hollow?" he wondered, for he knew students that did both. The mess hall was free and so Ashton took full advantage of this. Plus, students that couldn't drive and didn't have friends to drive them couldn't very well be rushing off to the town for their meals.
Despite his initial worries Ashton was feeling a lot more confident as he headed back the way that they'd came. Now that they knew approximately how far it was and they were doubling back he didn't feel nearly as nervous about running into bears or anything like that. He didn't know anything about bears except the fact that they hibernated and that nursing mothers were vicious about their cubs. Were they already in hibernation? He sure hoped so. Wanting to distract himself from thoughts of enraged and dangerous animals, Ashton turned his attention back to Aramina and thought of more conversation that he could make. He was a naturally friendly and chatty person so it was not that hard to settle on a topic. "Speaking of Maple Hollow, are you a boarder?" Boarders were just a term for the students that stayed in the dorms at the Academy because they did not have a home in Maple Hollow to return to. Though even some of the Hollow kids boarded at the Academy to save the gas money from trips back and forth every day. The upperclass areas were farthest away from the school but Ashton supposed funds weren't a problem for them anyway, being rich and all.

Aramina couldn't help but frown just a little as soon as Ashton had said that they might only just get back in time for dinner. Anyone that knew her really well, knew that she loved her food and always loved to try different types of food whenever she could, that was just the way that she was brought up and it just so happened that her favorite meal of the day just happened to be DINNER! They always served something different in the caff back at the Academy and it always tasted so good! Though she could help but smile what he had said next. To be honest, Aramina had never really been to the Hollow before, other than to go and see her friend Sam. "The Hollow sounds alright," She said with a smile on her face, "I have never really been before, do you know any good places to eat?" Aramina asked, hoping that he would at least know a few good places.
Though his next question did stun her just a little bit but when she thought for a second she did remember that she hadn't told him much about herself over all at all, though it really didn't bother her as she didn't know much about him either. "Yes, I am a border." Aramina said with a genuine smile on her face. As a border she knew that is was hard to be away from her family but she had found a 'family' here at the academy and she was really happy about that. "What about you?" She asked wondering if he was just like her in that way.
At this point no of them had said something for a little while all she was thinking about, other than the way back, was what to ask him next. It seemed that they where just asking each other question to get to know each other better, so was thinking of stuff along those lines. As soon as she, finally, thought of some she turned to Ashton smiled. "So," she began wondering, now, how she was going to continue, "What do you want to do once you leave the academy?"

Unfortunately Ashton hadn't been to the Hollow much himself. He had stayed for half the summer and gotten a job at the local fair but during the school year he only went sometimes with his friends and it was normally for coffee or something else mundane. "Nowhere cheap," he admitted with a quiet laugh. The only restaurant he knew of was Northern Lights and the other options were mostly of fast food and small diners. He didn't have any personal experience in these diners to be able to tell if they were good or not. Besides, the Academy was a lot closer. "At least we won't have to worry about taking the trip at all if we make it." He was always the optimistic one in most situations. Ashton was a cheerful guy that didn't let a lot of things bother him. He'd had a good upbringing and no awful experiences besides a few particularly bad break-ups so as long as he stayed away from the relationship front he felt like his luck would hold. "If all else fails I could call up one of the day students I know and ask them." Ashton knew a lot of people and had a wide circle of friends in both the boarder and day student population--he was sure that if he phoned one of the latter and asked where the good places were he'd get an honest answer.
As it turned out, Aramina really was a boarding student just like he was. This was a nice thing to know as it showed they had something in common. She returned the question and he replied, "I'm a boarder, too. I live too far away to make the trip every day." He didn't sound too bummed out about this. The first year had been hard and he got homesick sometimes but he enjoyed life at the Academy for the most part. Plus, it was a lot easier to lead an element when you spent most of your time in the castle with your peers. The day students were only available during class and lunch hours unless they stayed behind after school for some reason and especially in times of trouble it could be detrimental to their element. Though he knew that some of the leaders that were day students opted to board for their year of rule, not all of them did. You learned things like this when you'd been around for so long. "What about you, where do your parents live?" The Academy housed people from all over Canada as well as a lot of foreign countries, too. The foreigners were much more rare but still common enough that you usually had at least one in each of your classes, if not more.
Aramina's next question made him pause. He hesitated for a moment, then ducked his head and sheepishly admitted, "Haven't got a clue." He really hadn't thought about it before. Well, alright. He'd thought about it but these thoughts had led to nothing but dead ends. Shrugging, he elaborated, "I thought maybe something with my element but I don't know if botany or gardening is a good full-time career." He knew that he'd always have some semblance of a garden even if he didn't go for a full career with plants and maybe he'd take the extra job on the side but other than that he had no goals or ambitions for the future. His parents sometimes tried to push him in the right direction but truthfully Ashton didn't want to cement his future quite yet. He'd find what he wanted to do eventually. "What about you? Have you thought about it at all?" Then, realising that he hadn't said, Ashton added, "I do want to go to college here, I just don't know what for." Some chose to stay on for college, others left right away, still others went back home to get their varying degrees. Ashton didn't want to part with the Academy that quick, though it would be hard to break the news to his parents. They wanted him to go home for his next step in schooling.

Every now and again she could admit that something wasn't right or that something wasn't true but this defiantly wasn't one of those times. After being able to get to know Ashton over the past couple of hours she knew that they were going to be really good friends and that was something that she didn't really want to end. "What ever happens all that I know is that I am hungry." She admitted with a little bit of a laugh at herself. As much as she really wanted to eat, considering she didn't even know what the special for the day was, it was evident that she just wanted to spend time with her new friend. She wasn't someone who would make a new friend and then just leave randomly, considering something like that had happened to her in the past and it was something that she wouldn't wish on someone.
Knowing that he was a border as well was something that relieved her and she didn't really know why. For some reason she just felt good that she had someone else at the academy that she knew because most of her friends to this point were only day students. Though it was the next question that really put her off and it was something that hadn't really told many people her family for a very good reason. Most of the time it was due to her always seeming to want to cry when she talked about it. Looking up to see Ashton she wondered wither or not she should tell him about. "Well, Lets just say they are back in England and haven't moved for quite but all the family I have is up there, so I had to move to come here."
Considering the last question Aramina's spirits were lifted by what Ashton had said next. Just in normal fashion she smiled and listened to what he thought about it. Aramina knew that she could ask him most questions and get a really good answer but then have it asked back, which she found to be something interesting. "I really would like to be someone looks after people after they die," She said hoping that that would sound weird to him, "I think that they would like to know that they are getting taken care of before they go six feet under if you know what I mean."

Ashton offered a sympathetic smile when she explained how all of her family were back in England. It was hard for all the boarders who didn't have family close by and thus had to live in at the Academy during the year but he supposed it would be even more difficult for those that came from overseas. He knew a lot of the foreigners at school and found that he liked almost all of them but he did feel bad that their families were usually so far away. He remembered Nell's accent and wondered if she ever went to see her parents back home--they hadn't really talked much about her family. Maybe they did live in Canada? He wasn't sure. Maybe he'd ask next time... or not, seeing as the subject had been difficult for Aramina. To prevent his mind from wandering further Ashton focused on the reply. "That's a shame," he said. "Do you at least go and visit on holidays?" There was a part of him that felt bad asking the difficult questions like this (what if she never saw them?) but he couldn't suppress his naturally open and friendly personality until someone outright gave him the hint that he should back off. Ash wasn't stupid, he just wasn't the most perceptive guy in the world. Subtle hints sometimes flew right over his head.
He was a little surprised by her choice of future occupation, but after a moment of deliberation the Earth elemental decided that it was sweet. He supposed that if he was dying he'd definitely want to be comforted by the idea that he wasn't going to be forgotten about. He was afraid of dying alone, actually, that childish fear that a lot of people had. Perhaps if he surrounded himself with friends and family that wouldn't happen but he still thought about it sometimes. He respected what Aramina wanted to do, therefore, and his smile this time was more cheerful than sympathising or confused. "I'm sure they would," he agreed thoughtfully. "That's a nice thing to do." He wished that he could aspire to something a little more meaningful than plotting a garden but when he sat there and thought about it nothing really came to mind. He wondered if he could do the sort of thing Aramina wanted to and concluded that no, that wouldn't work as well for him. He was quite sure that he'd get depressed being around dead people all day. He liked to be surrounding by laughter and life, which wasn't really likely if you spent your life around the deceased. Still, all the power to Aramina. If that was what she wanted he hoped she got it.
As the forest opened up onto the grounds and the school came into sight, Ashton breathed a sigh of relief as he heard the bell clanging over in the tower. "Just in time for dinner, I think," he announced triumphantly. Privately he was relieved that he didn't have to shell out what little money he had on the expenses of the Hollow. For boarders, all three meals were all-you-can-eat and free. He still missed his mother's cooking sometimes but she made up for it by always cooking a sort of welcome home feast for the family when he returned from the Academy. It was sweet and it helped to let him know he was missed and not forgotten whilst he was off in the mountains and studying for school. Upon reaching the mess hall a familiar figure waved at him, apparently trying to get his attention. He blinked and looked over to see the female Earth leader looking urgent. She probably wants to ask me something, he realised. He would have preferred to discuss the business of his element on a full stomach but he also didn't want to cause fights by keeping her waiting. With a sigh, he turned apologetically to Aramina. "Duty calls," he said, sounding good-natured but a little exasperated as well. "We can hang out again sometime, though," he said. "That was fun."
[Would you like a follow up thread with them? Or we could thread Ara with Josh. I'd offer Ro, too, but she hates me right now xD]

You could defiantly say that Aramina was trying to cry at this point, even though as she looked over to see Ashton she could see the smile on her face and she couldn't help but want to cheer up so that it would make their current situation weird. As soon as he had asked if she had seen them in the holidays it finally dawned on her, she quickly grabbed her phone from her back pocket just to check to see if she was right about the date and how close it was to 'that' day. "Lets just say," Aramina started just trying to work out how long it had been, she had started to talk about then so she might as well tell him a little about them, "I haven't seen them in around 11 or so years." All you could see was Aramina moving her hand around the air trying to work out if her maths was right, for once in her life.
Though what Ashton had said next had really surprised the wind girl. Not to many people that she knew had actually been all for what she wanted to do once she left the academy, well other than her brother and step-sister who knew why she wanted to do that sort of thing. "Thanks." Aramina said with a smile on her face, it had been like his last comment had made Aramina do a 180 with her emotions and she seemed to be a different person. "Well, when you think about it. The dead can't talk for themselves. They need someone to help them if something bad had happened and caused them to die and I would love to know that I had help just one person be happy that way." You could tell that Aramina was very passionate about this sort of thing and that it wasn't one of those phases that teens went through this point in their lives.
As soon as the pair had reached the academy in which they both called home, she could have sworn that she could smell dinner from a mile away and it didn't help when Ashton had made the comment about it just a moment earlier. It wasn't until this point that she realized how hungry she actually was, and that just happened to be quite a bit. Though she knew that as soon as they reached the mass hall that they would become to people that just happened to know each other, as no one even knew that they knew each other. As they walked in and Ashton said that he had go and go sort out some earth leader business she couldn't help but smile. "Defiantly," Aramina said with a smile on her face, "See you soon, Ashton." She finished as she waked away from the earth boy and went to the end of the line so that she could get her dinner.
