Nell hadn’t been expect Josh to be so worried and that her words may have been taken for something much graver than it actually was. She shook her head, slightly confused when he whacked her. ”But I am serious,” she claimed, her voice soft and almost like a whine if she were one to whine. But that’s as much as she would complain about getting a food allergy. She didn’t want to reveal just how much this bothered her. There was something medically wrong with her. Even though food allergies were common enough, it worried her to know that she wasn’t as invincible as she thought she was when it came to her immune system. Well, you’re not actually sick. No, if she was, that would have been worse. But she doesn’t get sick, so that was just a moot point. Instead of going on about how much it sucked to have this allergy and that she could no longer eat a food she really liked, she said, ”Oh yeah, I’m feeling awesome! Medicical science, man.” She laughed lightly after saying this. It was one of the reasons Nell admired Josh—the profession he wanted to go into was one she believed to be amazing.
Josh surprised her by saying that he didn’t care if the hospital would get mad if she up and left. It wouldn’t be the first time she left the institution unannounced. Nell nodded. She reminded herself that you can leave any time you want to leave something—no one will stop you. It wouldn’t be an inconvenience for them, right? No, far from it. They would have more beds and would be able to take more patients into the ER. And I’m not a patient, she thought obstinately. She hated using that word in connection to herself. ”I really want to go,” she said plainly, getting off the bed. At least she didn’t have to stay for an extended period of time and wear one of those stupid gowns. Luckily, they were no longer backless since it seemed hospitals came up with a more functional gown, but it made her feel even more like an invalid. ”Hmm…” Nell said as she thought. She felt kind of like a bad ass, since she was leaving a hospital whe nshe should stay put. ”We should go exploring or something. And get food along the way, of course.” It was always nice to have something to eat in her hands at all times. Besides, she didn’t want to sit down again to eat a dinner—she needed to get out and move around, see the sights. She’d much rather go exploring than risk another food allergy.
